This is Sam. She's from New York City, and since I'm supposed to tell you all my secrets her parents are getting divorced. Sam was the first person my age I met when I came here, and she's been my best friend since then. We get along pretty well, and she makes me laugh all the time. She's a mutant just like all the other kids here. Sam can fly around, and when we went to the Fantastic Four building Dr. Richards said she was using telekinesis. Right now she can only make herself fly and she can barely lift me. It's still a lot of fun, though.

My first night in the Mansion Sam, Clarissa, and Ricardo snuck out to go to Westchester (that's the closest town to the Mansion) when a bunch of the teachers left, and when the rest of us were eating dinner this guy called X-Cutioner (I know, totally lame, right?) tried to break in and ended up stabbing Mr. LeBeau! Ms. Braddock and Mr. Logan got into a fight with him on the front lawn, and it looked like Ms. Braddock was going to get hurt, so I slowed down everything and accidentally threw his laser staff thing INTO OUTER SPACE!

Dr. McCoy says I might be an omega mutant. That's the most powerful kind, but the Prof. says that means I've got to have more responsibility.

This is Clarissa. She's another one of my friends. Clarissa is a technopath, which means she can talk to machines. The first time I saw her really use her power she made a mall security tape get rid of us, and then like a week later she made this giant robot that was trying to arrest us turn into her personal servant! OK, she's also the one that woke it up in the first place, but it's still pretty cool. The teachers and the Professor said it's dangerous and she can't take it out to play with, so they've got it locked up in a basement somewhere. She's totally in love with Johnny Storm, and even got to meet him a few weeks ago, but he doesn't remember it.

Actually, the whole reason I'm here right now is because Clarissa stole one of the jets (how many high schools have their own jets? Like NONE!) and flew us to New York City when these other grownup mutants kidnapped the teachers, a senator and a bunch of other people. We rescued everybody, but this one guy was psychic and knew we were coming, so he got the drop on me and SHOT ME WITH A GUN! If I wasn't a mutant I probably would have died, but it still REALLY REALLY REALLY HURT AND NOW I HAVE TWO CRACKED RIBS AAAAAAAA!!!

Well, I guess I did agree to go along with the whole thing. But you know whose idea it was...

Megan! Shy Little Miss Tesla Electric-Hands, who was living in a glass box when I met her. She couldn't help zapping electricity everywhere, so the only way she could go outside of her room was by putting on this clunky suit that weighed like fifty pounds. The Professor got her a bracelet that shut off her power, but Dr. Richards did it even better and fixed her UMF suit (that means unstable molecular fabric) so she can walk around without electrocuting everybody. She was so shy she didn't want it at first, but we convinced her to go through with it. Now she's almost as loud as Sam!

That was a crazy day. We went to New York City to see Sam's parents, but we also went to Four Freedoms Plaza (that's the Fantastic Four building) and took their tour, and at the end we got to meet Dr. Richards, who was really interested in us because we were mutants, and also because of my time thing. Then Clarissa found out that Johnny Storm wasn't around, and she was all bummed out, so Ms. Frost took us to a restaurant on top of the World Trade Center! It was so fancy that they weren't going to let us in, but then she made them think we were dressed up and everything was ok. For like ten minutes.

So we were eating lunch and I was just about to make a joke and then these guys came in and tried to take everyone hostage! Ms. Frost said we should just leave and let the police take care of it, but I didn't want anybody to get hurt so I slowed everything down. Ms. Frost was MAD but since I already had everybody frozen she said we might as well finish what we started, and then guess who shows up chasing these guys? Johnny Storm!!!

The other cool people are Luke and Mary Ann. They're always together, and the Professor lets them sleep in the same room in a different wing than the rest of the students because their brains can't stand being apart. When I first came here I thought they were dating, but the Professor said they make a gestalt presence, which means that together they make this big tough thing that's made of pure thought.

They can also read minds and talk to people telepathically, and it's almost totally impossible to sneak up on them. I kind of tried to hit on Luke when I first got to the Mansion, but it was too weird.

I heard a story that a few months before I came to this school they had this psychic freak-out where there was an astral being or something in the Mansion that was trying to get at them. Ms. Braddock tried to explain the astral plane to me once, but I think you need to be a telepath to really understand it.

This is Ricardo, who I call El Jerko. He's loud and mean and he thinks girls like him but they don't. Clarissa used to go out with him before I moved here, but they're still friends, even though he's totally obnoxious. He can speed things up or slow them down, so if you throw a piano at him he can make it lose all its momentum and fall straight down. He can also have falling stuff land on him and not get hurt, which is pretty cool, I guess. Sometime we should have a contest to see who can throw something the fastest.

The last two students are Noah and Caleb. Noah is a year older than the rest of us, and he and Caleb are brothers. Caleb is a snob and never wants to talk to anybody, but Noah's OK. Sam has the hugest crush on Noah, which was really awkward the first time I got to meet him. So there I was walking in the woods when I slip and fall and somebody grabs me, and when I looked up it was me! It turns out Noah turns into whoever he touches, so he was stuck looking like me for four hours until it wore off, but Sam was jealous and thought we were kissing or something, which we weren't if you're reading this Sam!!!

Caleb is kind of a jerk too, because he never talks to me. He's like a caveman who only speaks by rolling his eyes and calling things stupid. It was kind of nice how he helped me out when we got back to the Mansion, though. I don't know what his power is exactly, but Ricardo said he could jump out of a window and not get hurt. Whatever it is, he doesn't like showing it off or even talking about it.

Anyway, that's about all I have to write about right now. Ms. Grey says I should get some rest, and Sam said they rented a movie for when I get out of here tomorrow.

MutantQuest is a remarkably well-done quest thread here on /tg/. It follows the adventures of a particular student at the Xavier school for gifted youngsters, circa 1995. Aino, the main character, is a Canadian girl of Finnish birth, who happens to have the power to slow time in her immediate vicinity.

In honor of its tenth issue the other day, the creator posted an 'issue zero' which amounts to the main character's personal diary.
