Founded in the 33rd Millenium when a lone Administratum clerk found a fragment of the text "Call of Cth-", the High Lords were notified and geneseed of the Blood Angels began being stockpiled for the founding of the Abyssal Jaws. Since its founding the Chapter has made itself known for its vicious tenacity in close range combat and specilation in aquatic enviroments as well as its open disregard for the Codex with its numbers being several times over the stipulated 1,000.

    >>14834625

If only we could get that guy to make our banner. Oh well.

I suggest we put the Jaw symbol in the center, then have little characteratures of xenos and heretics all around it with I'M SAD faces. Because all of them are missing big chunks. Also, blood. Lots and lots of blood.

And speaking of the Chapter Symbol (in all seriousness, now), I have devised an interesting compromise between the options of a Blood Angel's blood drop and an octopus/cuttlefish eye in the center; because both look awesome and would fit: we use that location to denote unit type, in the manner that the Blood Angels denote company.

-A single red blood drop is for captains and standard marines (which perfrom the rolls of tactical or assault squads as need arises).
    -Scout/neophyte's have a blank space
-Marines of the Forge (including Techmarines) have a tiny cog symbol, possibly getting more and more elaborate as the marine in question increases in rank
-The Black Priests have the Eye of the Deep (the yellow, box-shaped eye of an octopus/cuttlefish)
-Veterans have... I have no idea. a skull is too mainstream... maybe a white blood drop?

Any way, individual squads would have the chapter symbol (including the unit-type marking) on their left pauldron. The right pauldron is used to display the personal heraldry of the sergeant and idividual marines. This could include anything from campaign badges to kill marks, special honors to trophies.

    What do you think?

    >>14835015

I... Actually really like that idea! An idea I'd thought of was that the chapter removed the blood drop for the octopus eye when they became the Abyssal Jaws, but I'm liking your idea a lot more.

When the people of Tantallius V suddenly found themselves fighting for their lives against a Hrud migration, the Abyssal Jaws and Marines Malevolent answered the call for help. As the marines landed on the planets surface and began engaging the invading forces, commander Evaristo of the Abyssal Jaws and Harkall of the Marines Malevolent agreed to split the planet between them: While the Marines Malevolent battled their way across the planets surface, the Abyssal Jaws would take to the ocean and launch ambushes from the shoreline. In the case of the planet capital, which had been under constant siege since the invasion began, a combined force from both chapters would assault the Hrud positions.

While fight by themselves, both chapters proved highly successful at wiping out any of the xeno invaders they found. However, the just a day before the combined force were assigned to attack the capital, the Hrud broke through the city defences. Although there still remained many pockets of Imperium resistance within the capital, for the most part the city had been overrun. While initially this didn't phase the marines, the Hrud quickly built-up their defences; an attack against the city would result in heavy losses. When Harkall announced his intention to bombard the city regardless of the surviving defenders, Evaristo flew into a rage. Evaristo called Harkall a coward for his disregard for the lives of the defenders, while Harkall called Evaristo a barbarian who cared more for lives of the doomed defenders than the lives of the marines under his command.

    >>14839286

The argument ended when Evaristo announced that he would lead the attack on the city himself. While Evaristo's attempt to save the lives of the remaining humans was undoubtedly valiant, it was ultimately a mission that was doomed to fail. As the Abyssal Jaws prepared to launch their attack upon the city, a brilliant flash of blinding light filled the sky. When Evaristo and his men gazed upon the city, all they could see was great mushroom cloud. Rather then see his fellow marines die for what he considered to be a worthless cause, Harkall ordered the city to be completely obliterated. When he returned to the command centre, Evaristo was greeted by Harkness, who was suddenly found himself being sent flying to the floor by his fellow commander.

Since that day, the Marines Malevolent and Abyssal Jaws have refused to ever participate in campaigns with each other, their chapter beliefs to different to co-exist.

Characters born and raised on Maresia use the Hive World template but they lost "Caves of Steel" and "Hivebound" trait.
    Maresians gain the following traits:

    Hardened by The Trails
The longstanding tradition among Maresians that all children should partake in the selection trails for the Abyssal Jaws has make them a hardy and proud people. A Maresia characters use the following base to generate Willpower, Fellowship and Toughness. Willpower 25, Fellowship 15, Toughness 20.

    Skills of the Seas
A Maresia characters gains the Swim and Navigation (Surface). One born on Maresia will not live through the abyssal trail without these skills.

    Born on a haunted world.
Maresia is a world that is not only home to humans but a prison to some eldritch thing kept in the deep waters. This Old One whisper wordlessly to all that dwell on Maresia. A Maresian gains 1d10 Insanity point or 1d10 corruption points and Forbiden Lore (Warp) as a basic skill.

Coment, well I really didn't think that a penalty to toughness would fit Maresians with their bad ass ways and I figured that the Abyssal Jaws' pride would rub of on them. So what did ya think, what should be changed?

Anyhoo, put the Marines Malevolent story on the wiki.
Since the "History of Inter-Astartes Rivalries/Why we don't get along with the smurfs" story is up on the wiki, I'm thinking of eventually making it into its own page. Just various stories and tidbits about the Abyssal Jaws and their relationships with chapters. One story they could be falling out with the Dark Angels, another could have an AJ marine bro-fisting a salamander as they both ride a rhino through the atmosphere of a planet and land it on top of a Word Bearer.

    The Defense of Quarskin

“To this day, I have never forgotten fighting alongside the Abyssal Jaws. True, no man could ever forget fighting alongside space marines, an event that I have been lucky enough to witness three times, but my time with the Jaws still remains the most vivid, long after they left. I cannot think of them without smiling, nor can remember them long without shivering.”
“Just a few months after I became a sergeant in the PDF, a horde of Chaos cultists attacked the planet. I do not know from where they came, only that they brought boats to traverse the mighty oceans that are so common on our fair Quarskin. They were horrible things. I saw a galley made out of solid rockcrete, sailing effortlessly on the waves without any engines, but leaving a sea of dead fish in its wake. I saw a ship with a sail made of fire, its horrible light chilling my blood. I saw a steamboat with a paddle made of solid bone.”
“Worse yet was the occupants of these boats. Most of them were human, or at least were once human, but now tainted and maddened by chaos. They fired missiles at passing gulls. They defaced mountains with artillery for amusement. The sea around the chaos ships was red with blood.”

“Though the PDF navy fought hard, they could not stop the Chaos boats from landing. They did however; force the Chaos transports to unload in a heavily fortified choke point, where I was stationed at the time. The fort that I was defending was built on a small island, and it was not uncommon to see waves splashing up against the walls.”

“It was then that we got word our position would fortified by a squad of marines from the Abyssal Jaws chapter, a chapter known for specializing in aquatic warfare. This was not the first time I had fought alongside space marines. Several years prior, during an Ork invasion, I had the honor (if not the pleasure) of fighting alongside the Ultramarines. I figured I knew what expect from the Astares. I was wrong”

“The Abyssal Jaws were quite different from any other space marines I had ever seen before or after. The day they were deployed alongside they took the time to shake every man’s hand, all one hundred PDF troopers. They insisted in sleeping in regulation bunks, instead of the special bunks we were ordered to make for them.”

“They never criticized or blamed us during battle, despite the obvious competence gap between our forces. On days when the cultists massed to attack the fort, they would always take the most open positions. On days when we were shelled, they would raise morale by telling stories of their previous campaigns, and sometimes even jokes. And on days when the cultist’s attacks lulled, they went about repairing the fort’s previous damages, requiring no praise or assistance.”

“I remember one day a lucky shot from a chaos cultist destroyed my lasgun, the sergeant not only escorted me back to the fort, but he also gave me his bolt pistol. It was a lucky thing too, as the PDF had no spare lasguns in the fort. What’s more, he even spent the lull the next day teaching me how to use the weapon. To this day I still treasure that bolt pistol. “

“One day, the chaos cultists attacked en mass. They were even more wild and frenzied than before, gleefully jumping over their dead brethren to get into the fight. In their midst was a giant of a space marine, larger than even the Jaws, and covered in blood red power armor. The sword he held in his hand was the same crimson color as his armor, though I doubt any pigment ever touched the blade. The cultists surrounding him were ecstatic in their rage, charging forward no matter how many times they were shot.”

“The sergeant of the Jaws charged towards the Chaos Marine. The other Marine swung at the Jaw’s sergeant with his horrible sword, but the sergeant brought up a spear to block. Then, he thrust the spear’s point through the Chaos Marine’s shoulder, and took his arm off. The one armed marine stared stunned at the stump for several seconds, and then fled screaming. The cultists around him scattered, some running towards us, some following their master, and some turning their own weapons on themselves.”

“The Abyssal Jaws took chase after the Chaos Marine, and, try as we might, we could not catch up with them. Seeing as the chaos threat was eliminated, we became to celebrate. Great quantities of beer were drunk in celebration, songs praising the Emperor were sung, and wild lasguns shots were fired into the air. “

“Then, ten hours later, then Abyssal Jaws returned, carrying with them the body of a one armed giant. While we tried to congratulate them on their kill, they said nothing to us, and began silently taking off their armor. I still remember the tattoos on their faces. Blood red, and demonic, looking more like something we’d have seen on a cultist than our saviors. More tattoos adorned their bodies, some of monstrous fish, some of wicked looking knives, and some of designs I could not hope to identify.”

“They then laid the body of the dead marine on the nearest table, and, without ever saying a word, began tearing apart his corpse. Blood flew through the air, muscles torn from bone, bone cracked open. It took me a while to see what they were doing, but, to my horror, I eventually realized it. They were eating the chaos marine.”

    Physic Powers
Deluge- This power summons large amounts of water onto the battlefield. Select a 6' by '6 area of the battlefield. It is now difficult terrain for the rest of the game. If a model could move normally in water, they may move normally in the Deluge.

Well, that more or less EXACTLY what I envisioned the Black Priests's powers doing: 1) Buffing friendly troops, or 2) fucking with how the enemy fights

However, For the Emperor needs to have a range (and the Priest gives his unit Fearless anyway). I'd say that's a fair enough trade off for having to take a psychic test, wouldn't you? Also, that power should come standard, in addition to their purchased/chosen abilities as it fulfils the Chaplains' role.

Also, I think we should give the Black Priests a different method for combating enemy psychic powers than the usual boring psychic hood, or even the Wolves' runic weapon, thing. To represent their ability to utterly rape people's brains by showing them a vision of the unkowns, they should somehow cause them to suffer Perils of the Warp. This would probably work best by having them suffer PotW if they roll ANY doubles within a certain distance of the Priest, or by having them suffer it automatically on a d6 roll (4+, or something). The Black Sage would make this happen easier.

Sorry, I meant for it to say it effects the Black Sage's unit.

I like the perils of the warp idea, but it leaves a huge hole is psychic defense. "can get my JWW off, and it only costs one wound? YES!" Maybe as a power that you can only use if a power is cast with 18' but other than that no limits, even multiple times per round. The other psyker lose the cast on a +4, and if they do lose the cast, suffer perils of the warp

You did say his unit. I just think that if you have to take a psychic test to do what chaplains already do (albiet a bit better), then they may as well get to do it at range.

How about this, if they roll ANY doubles the power does not go off AND they suffer Perils of the Warp. Perils and negation on 4+ is too good, we'd have to make them cost at least 150pts base for something that awesome.

Black Priest/Sage/Whatever you guys want to call them psychic power ideas:

    Meggido's Wake

Draw a straight line out from the caster until you hit a table edge(akin to jaws of the world yiff).

If the unit is a monstrous creature, it must pass an initiative test or suffer d3 wounds. In addition, it is shunted aside up to 2d6 inches out of the path of the wake. If it passes the initiative test, the controlling player may place it 1d6 inches out of the wake.

If the unit is a vehicle, it is instantly hit on its side armor and shunted aside 2d6 inches. The hit is S6. Even if damage is not dealt, the vehicle is moved. If it lands on an enemy or allied unit, they take an automatic S8 AP 5 hit.

If the unit is infantry of any type, it is swallowed up by the wake and utterly destroyed if it fails an initiative test. Deal w/ it.

To work the shunt: 2d6s+the scatter die. Move the thing along based on the direction the scatter die points.

And because I sort-of like you guys:

The Black Sage uttered something guttural as he hefted a gauntlet-adorned hand, psychic energy lashing out along the ceramite that covered his balled his.

He let out a bellowing roar as he brought his fist smashing into the ground with a vicious hammer-blow, unleashing the psychic attack that he had been channeling.

The ground itself shattered and split, a massive, unidentifiable predatory fish bursting out of the ground, formed out of scintillating coronas of psychic force. It slammed through the gathered <insert enemy faction> forces, tossing vehicles and soldiers around as if they were children's playthings.

The unlucky souls who were unable to avoid the business-end of the beast found themselves torn asunder within its maw, rent by psychic force and fang as the Abyssal Jaws let out a jubilant whoop.

An unlimited range JWW? Sounds overpowered. Plus, earlier, we said that a Black Sage's powers should be either buffs, or messing with how the enemy fights, no shooty powers.

That being said, shooting piranhas is just too cool. How about this

    Meggido's Wake
This power summons ghostly piranhas to repel the Abyssal Jaw's enemies. Select a 3' by '3 area of the battlefield. Anything that is not allied with the Jaws that enters within 6' must take a dangerous terrain test. In addition, anything that stays in the area must take a dangerous terrain test at the start of the Abyssal Jaw's psychic phase, as must anything caught in the area when the power was cast. The piranhas remain until the game ends, or the black sage is slain, whichever comes first

    Another one
Blood in the water- The Black Priest causes the pheromones of the target to change, leading his enemies to see him as easy prey.
This power may be used on any target within 36'
This power causes any units within 24' of the target to get RAGE, applying only to that target. The may ignore the RAGE on a successful LD check, but do not gain the benefits of blood in the water. Any unit charging the target gets +2 to STR, rending, offensive grenades if they don't have them, and get an extra attack the turn they charge. This power may be used on the Black Priest's army too. The power's effects end at the end of the turn

This power is commonly used to mark out a target for a mass attack, as well as aid the marines attacking the target. However, it is also used to pull enemies away from objectives, and cause them to charge enemies they cannot defeat.
