Can anyone calculate the new water level around the world?
Wouldn't the new coast lines have to deal with massive floodings, because some big waves would be coming crushing towards them?

Just for the timeline, I guess it would take some years to recover from that kind of damage...

    >The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere (大東亜共栄圏 Dai-tō-a Kyōeiken) was a concept created and promulgated during the Shōwa era by the government and military of the Empire of Japan. It represented the desire to create a self-sufficient "bloc of Asian nations led by the Japanese and free of Western powers".[1]

Oh for pete's sake...both Canada and Mexico are fucked without the United States. Who do you think feeds their economic engines? With the US gone, the Northern American states will flounder. South America, on the other hand, has a real chance now. Argentina in particular might reclaim its once-envisioned status as "World Power" Chile's another possible contender, though without the US/India/China/etc there are no major sectors of manufacturing, no major sectors of finances, research and development. Even something as basic as manufacturing pencils have been severely hampered by the removal of these places.

Because all countries that bordered the removed countries based their economies in large part on the needs of these economic behemoths, we can safely rule out their presence on the world stage; they will have their hands full adjusting to "Life Without Superpowers" which is going to suck for them.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/11(Sun)17:23 No.14707634
Honestly, there's no real reason for Brazil to actually TAKE OVER the rest of south america. Certainly it's going to be the big power, and if it says jump, other countries say how high... and since it has that, it doesn't NEED to invade, since it's already in charge. The threat of power is more useful than actually following through on those threats, and politicians are going to KNOW THAT.

    Short version:
    >All US and UK military forces outside of their countries, as well as other civilian institutions/etc move to Canada
    >this results in takeover of Canada
    >lots of Anglo nationalism
    >Closest relative to the Royal Family is Norwegian monarchy
    >Norwegian monarchy becomes new British monarchy, resulting in an Anglo/Norwegian empire

    >Canada has lots of resources and space to begin with, and now is home to the remaining US and UK military forces
    >Canada is also the seat of the reincarnated Glorious British Empire

At best Canada is a "Quality over Quantity" sort of place. It's got good manufacturing centers, good R&D centers, one of the more modernized military powers, etc. Something crazy like 85% of Canada is trackless i.e you can't get from point a to point b via road.

I still disagree with this. While the norwegian monarchy could still claim the British crown, Norway is firmly into the European sphere and has more in common with Sweden and Finland who are part of the European Federation.

I agree with Canada becoming the new anglo-saxon empire, but Norway joining them and Greenland being annexed? I don't think that's feasible.

Countered by the fact that most of that now warmed-up south Canada is underwater due to flooding. Canada isn't going to be a global superpower with the US, it's certainly not going to be one with it gone when feeding the US was its major claim to fame. With all these modern superpowers literally out of the picture, everything old is new again; all of the original balances of power come back into play: Europe controlling everything in the Americas sans the USA, pretty much Europe controlling everything again.

yes, but on second thought, that doesn't make too much sense. A communist state that has been trying to spread its ideology for 50 years suddenly decides to just start selling its services to the highest bidder? It would be much more likely that with the US gone, they finally seize their chance to try to spread communism like they always wanted.
Also, because of the rest of the worlds' general distrust of Cuba, they would be relatively self-sufficient and probably among the countries most capable of taking advantage of the massive economic crisis that would occur. Them becoming mercenaries makes far less sense.

What do you think about splitting up the Anglo-American empire? The concept of the US army being even remotely OK with serving the British (or Norwegian) King seems absolutely absurd to me.
It would make more sense if the UK troops go to Canada as before, but the US soldiers are split between a small group that go to Canada, and a larger group that decide to proclaim their independence and seize Iraq and Afghanistan as their new country. A sort of American military dictatorship along the lines of the Crusader states from back in the day, with an almost feudal structure as different generals claim their own city-states.

What are we trying to come up with, by the way? Is it the world soon after the superpowers disappear, or the major factions 10-20 years down the line.

Also, I kind of like the idea of the US troops taking control of Iraq, but expand that to including their allies in the region. It will give something for Israel to do (the EU isn't too crazy about supporting them militarily), and it might include Saudi Arabia as a dubious partner.

About the Korean and Japanese situations I doubt they would unify, Koreans and Japanese hate each other.

What's more likely is North Korea taking this chance to attack the south and one of them would emerge victorious (north most likely) and then they enter in some kind of cold war with japan.
Or even japan try to make that both sides mutually destroy themselves so that they can be the sole ruler of the region

1: Split EU into France+low countries, Germany+Austria, Scandinavian Union, and possibly a new South Slav coalition of Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia. They're all still nominally part of the EU and friendly, but there are tensions and it's not a truly unified alliance.
3: Definitely 2 factions at least; Brazil who are invading their neighbours, especially to the south, and Cuba+Venezuela+Nicaragua who are leading the charge for communism into eastern Mexico, Central America, and the north part of South America.
3: The Japan/Korea name is OK, but you should throw Taiwan in there too since it was part of Japan for a long time and they'd want it back.

I don't think they would. First, South Africa has always had a tumultuous relationship with the Commonwealth ever since they were kicked out over apartheid. Second, I doubt a country that's primarily black would want to swear loyalty to the whitest king ever (Norwegian guy). Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are all similar culturally, but South Africa would probably feel no loyalty to any of them now that the UK is gone.
They'd still be relatively close diplomatically, but likely a different faction.

Chapter 41 of Pantheocide lays out just how multinational the war really is:The Salvation War was a truly multi-national enterprise. That was why sub-munitions made in South Africa were delivered to China for installation in 227mm rockets that were shipped in Greek freighters to Hell where they were issued to American MLRS batteries that gained their mobility from oil that had been drilled in Saudi Arabia and refined in Singapore before being carried by Norwegian tankers to Dutch-built storage facilities on the shores of Hell. Early in the war, at least three economists were reputed to have committed suicide after trying to work out how to pay for everything.

Bumping int he name of the Anglo-Empire.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/11(Sun)19:32 No.14708984
OK, here's the basic timeline from what I can gather from our last threads:
British and some military forces and go to Canada once the UK and US disappeared. Once they get there, they discover that the British throne has been moved to Ottawa and as the entire British royal family is gone, the King of Norway is elevated to lead the Commonwealth. As a result, they form the Anglo-American Commonwealth made up of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Norway (and maybe Ireland). It is a rich country with abundant food and mineral resources, a capable military, and is naturally protected by vast oceans, but its industry and trade are limited with the disappearance of the US. In addition, the difficulties of integrating British, US, Canadian, Quebecois, Australian, and Norwegian cultures leaves it with a shaky political climate and in a disorganised state with interests pulling it in different directions. They are peaceful with the EU and Eastern Asia, nominally hostile with Cuba, and neutral with all others.

Seizing the initiative with the disappearance of the United States, Cuba has mobilised its reserves and begun a massive invasion of the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America to spread Communism. It is allied with other far-left Latin American countries, namely Nicaragua and Venezuela which strives to expand its influence in South America. The Caribbean countries quickly fall to Cuba, and most of Central America is nominally under their control. Mexico is being supported by groups from the Anglo-American Commonwealth and though it is losing ground, it has slowed the Cuban advance to a crawl. Tensions with Brazil loom as they both try to expand into Columbia and the Guiana Highlands.
Cuba has been forced to be relatively self-sufficient as a result of the Cold War, and its industry and economy, while weak, are relatively unaffected by the disappearance of the major powers. It's politics are dominated by a single party ruled by a handful of charismatic leaders who are worshiped by much of the people, and its message of Communism solving the world's new problems resonates with the poor throughout Latin America, many of whom are turning against their governments. Cuba has a large military that firmly believe in their mission and are well led, though are armed with outdated weaponry and poorly trained. Cuba is in a great conflict with Mexico and several Latin American countries, and hostile to Brazil and to some extent to the Anglo-American Commonwealth. It has no allies and must seek help from like-minded countries across the Atlantic if either of its neighbours decide to commit to full scale invasion.

As the richest and most militarily powerful South American nation, Brazil has begun to flex its imperialistic muscle and started to look to its neighbours to supply what it needs to grow. Largely using political, diplomacy, and economic pressure to force nearby nations into its sphere of influence, they will commit to military action when it is completely necessary. Through a combination of tactics Brazil has secured the Rio de la Plata delta and is further extending South to completely dominate Argentia and Chile. It has recently begun to extend its influence across the Amazon, but is meeting resistance from a rapidly-expanding Cuba. The two countries are all but at war, with the promise of easier rivals to subdue keeping them both focused elsewhere.
While heavily hit economically by the loss of its trade partners around the world, Brazil's vast agriculture has allowed it to avoid the massive famines sweeping the globe and to set up a stable base from which to rebuild its economy. Its successes in gaining territory and favourable agreements from its neighbours have only further strengthened it. Nominally a presidential democracy, elections have been indefinitely suspended and the military is taking a more and more active role in governance, leading to some small scale protests. Its military is the largest in the Western Hemisphere, with slightly outdated but still capable weapons, good training, and decent morale.

Brazil is a major trade-partner of the European Union, and currently in talks with the Anglo-American Commonwealth to greatly expand its commerce there. Though neither country could be considered an ally, they have a good relationship that could grow to include military assistance in the future. Apart from its missions into Argentina and Chile, and the skirmishes with Cuba along its border, Brazil has been seeing its coastal cities raided by pirates from the Africa in recent months, and though most have been pushed back, they are growing in frequency.

Agents work for their governments and go on diplomatic missions. They can help influence world events. They can also act as bodyguards and investigators for their governments.

Soldiers fight for their country. Playing as them is very combat heavy but the risk is low if you're military force is strong and you can strategize well enough. You can be a foot-slogging infantryman, sailor, pilot or officer.

Mercenaries are like soldiers, only they don't serve a single country or government. They work for themselves or their small faction. Mercenaries and pirates go where they please and do what they feel like. Risks are very high, however, as many people are out to get you. Combat heavy.

Freelance traders are merchants who work for themselves or a small group. With all the chaos caused by the disappearances, many nations are in a shit state. Traders go around supplying various countries with supplies, weapons and other things. Sort of like an anti-pirate.

One of the countries worst hit by the disappearance of the great powers, South Africa was struck by food shortages which quickly led to riots in the major cities and ultimately a short-lived civil war. In the end the military was able to put down the revolts in the country and a dictatorship has taken hold of the state. Though the generals in charge rule with an iron fist and executions for opposing the military are common, the rule of law is established and the citizens who choose to give up their freedoms live in comparable safety; a far cry from much of South Africa’s neighbours where endlessly tribal wars, random execution squads, and rape and cannibalism as tools of terror are commonplace. Much of the richer white population fled the country long ago, most going to the EU or Canada. The result is a South Africa that is more ethnically alike than ever, though racial hatreds have only grown as every group seeks to blame the others. Faced with mainly internal problems, South Africa has been unwilling to begin conflicts with its neighbours until recently, but the lack of farmland and a very large military that has grown to enjoy bloodshed has resulted in invasions of several of its neighbours. South African soldiers were able to overthrow the government of Zimbabwe and it has become a vassal state, and troops have already occupied much of Angola and Mozambique even if its people still resist.

Though once rich in gold and diamonds, the fall of the world economy has rendered South Africa with little economic activity of use. Agriculture has vastly expanded as the demand for food still rises, and the cities are full of empty buildings whose tenants have returned to the country. In these desperate times, the sale of labour and slavery are indistinguishable, and many poor workers find themselves accepting years of bondage in exchange for the promise of a meal. To satisfy the need for money and consumer, the government has begun funding corsairs who patrol the seas to capture trade ships and workers for the mines. The industry of the country has is increasing slowly, but captured goods are helping to speed this up. Alone at the edge of the world, South Africa has no allies, but no enemies either. It has relatively good relations with the EU and Anglo-American Commonwealth, primarily due to the many expatriates now living there, and due to the diplomatic downplaying of atrocities committed all across Africa. The closest South Africa has to an enemy is Nigeria, whose corsairs constantly harass its coasts and pillage its farms, always striking when least expected and escaping into the dark. South Africa’s armies are large, if incredibly poorly trained and disciplined; more than capable of seizing rival African countries’ towns, but not mobile enough to deal with the endless Nigerian raids.

Around now island-nation of Mongolia and Eastern Europe piracy is very common. Raiders attack EU and Pakistan vessels and steal whatever they can. Some shore settlements are even attack by these naval terrors. Most of these pirates are actually supported by their nation's government, almost all of which are suffering from poverty and starvation.

Although farmland is growing, piracy continues. While most of the pirate factions are many and small, belonging to different groups and countries, there is one large and powerful pirate faction from Mongolia. The self proclaimed warlord "Khan" who leads them is fearsome, and other pirate factions have been known to come to his aid when he calls for them.

This all seems somewhat convoluted in the setting to actual gameplay translation, you guys are suggesting that various nations will have to 'work their way up', while players are playing simple soldiers or mercenaries, and while I can see how spies and assassins can influence the world to a degree, it sounds like this is shaping up to be more of an empire builder game.

Pretty sure its just fluff for the most part. I suppose the problem is that we seem to be unsure of what period this is happening. Is this during the initial chaos, during the re-building period or the "hey, let's invade each other for delicious resources".

Don't pay attention to people who say all nations will have to build from scratch.

Anglo-Canada has tons of resources to sell and use internally

EU is already powerful, but is probably focused mostly internally since it is now the "China" in terms of population compared to the rest of the world

Brazil is strong in it's sphere in south america, and isn't under too much threat elsewhere except for the tensions with Anglo-Canada.

Japan-Korea is a more questionable power, but assuming they and Taiwan can feed their people they'll be pretty okay.

When the five most powerful nations disappeared, the world entered chaos. There were global riots, protests and rebellions. Communications all around the world were down, the economy collapsed, and although global flooding had oddly not occurred, the changes in geography caused terrible storms across the seas that ravaged ships and islands.

People were saying that it was the end of times.

Luckily, after a few years the largest remaining world governments began to get the situation under control. The riots stopped, communications were back up, the economy was slowly growing and people were being fed again. The lives of everyone changed forever, yes, but things were no longer as bleak and hopeless as we once thought.

    Hear me out on this

somewhere deep under the ocean, in one of the now submerged countries, is a small entrance to hell. a party could use this to enter hell, and rescue someone/find something of importance. ofcourse, no one knows about it.

    yet.

Ok, considerating that the countries that were destroyed still exists on the Sea Floor what would happen to the Super Powers and their aproaches on the resources:

Anglo Empire: they have all the USA territory at their disposition so expect alot of uses
EU:They Have Russia, so they're the luckiest in this setting
    Pakistan: The Same.
Brazil: So Brazil didn't won nothing, but hear me out. Petrobras is currently the second(or third i'm not sure) biggest oil company, and his rivals are american and chinese, that now are under the sea. So that makes PetroBras the biggest. They have the technology on the PreSalt so while the others factions will take, i don't know, decades, Brazil will lead on the energy side, but after a while they will probally be on second place behind EU

Petrobras is currently the second(or third i'm not sure) biggest oil company

BP is Dutch and English. And Shell is just plain Dutch.
I'd say the EU might have the edge. At least in the shipping and distribution.

So far as most holdings the American/Saudi SaudiAramco, original name eh?, is at the top. But that is production rather than shipping.

Yeah, I think the "countries sinking to the bottom of the sea" thing would be better. Focus is still on the real world and it opens up some interesting opportunities (deep-sea salvagers).

I think most of them look fine, although Canada can use some jagged edges along with it's new southern coast.

Mongol pirates, Communist Cuba spreading, shitstorm in the Middle east, American Military Crusaders, poverty and starvation in Eastern Europe...

Nah, I think we've got a good amount of strife.

Had my own go at a map.

I know Nigeria has been suggested as having its own little empire, but I'm going to argue against it on the principle that Nigeria would completely collapse after the flood. If any West African country would become a great power, it'd probably be either Ghana or Senegal.

Also added Bolivia and Ecuador to the South American Socialist Alliance because... Well, they're South American and Socialist. And bros with Venezuela.

Argentina seems like it'd be strong enough to go it alone. I can picture a loose Argentine-Brazillian alliance to fight the Communists in the Amazon jungle. Paraguy would join in as well, methinks.
