    94 KB TITANS Anonymous 04/23/11(Sat)16:21 No.14694420
    Hi /tg/
Today I managed to deploy my Warhound Titan for the first time in a game of Apocalypse at my local store. The game itself was totally messed up because half the players were kids who had to leave before my second turn, leaving a 5" section of board almost toally clear apart from a few allied Tyranids (lol) fighting a couple squads of marines and a crusader.
The titan ran in from reserve and vapourised two Leman Russ', took two points off of a shadowsword and stunned a baneblade cannon in its first shot, then turn three fired both daul turbolasers at the enemy super heavies parked next to each other and blew them both up spectacularly. 1400 points of kills in its first outing can't be too bad.

Have you got any titan stories /tg/?

Yeah, my Aeonic Orb routinely decimates Titans. I like watching Imperial players bring them onto the board all smug and have to take them off a turn later.

Been fielding a Baron Knight Paladin in some <1000k point games lately with friends.

It's so much fun watching twin battlecannons unleash pieplate carnage while they struggle to drop a super heavy. It's almost unfair to take out their heavy weapon sections one by one, like some distorted game of Jenga.

Back in 4th I once killed a Warhound Titan with 3 assault cannons after an ally had his big guns take its void shields down.

    BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT
*titans leg falls off ... rest topples over*

Oh and it was turn 1 so the titan didn't even get to do anything.

I'm currently toying with a GK army list that's going to have an Inquisitor in termie armor and psycannon along with five GK termies with two psycannons doing drive-bys in one Inquisitorial Chimera. I'm hoping shit will be as cash on the table as it is on paper.

    Here's one for you, OP.
A while back, my store had what we called the Tau Alliance, 7 different Tau players who would pool together resources and money, work together in apoc games, etc. At the time, there were 3 Imperium players: me, my buddy who ran IG, and a guy who ran GKs off and on.
Now the store owner was a cool guy, would set up some nice themed games for us, and one of them always ended up being Tau v. Imperium of Man, so we had to represent.
We got stomped every time. OP, they had MANTAS. 3 OF THEM. On top of just about every flyer that could be had. We were outnumbered points wise sometimes 4 to 1. We would get a fuckton of planetary/ground based defenses to make up for it, but it was never enough. All battles ended with us being slaughtered almost to the man, but we gave as good as we got, planned and plotted, and made every inch of ground costly.
One week, the store owner threw us a bone.

If all else fails; they're Walkers and as such can fire two weapons. Pretty sure superheavies can just fire everything unless they sacrifice weapon power for movement (they can fleet and shoot, but shoot one less weapon... or something).

I'd love to play Epic or Adeptus Titanicus but the Imperial and Eldar Titans are horrifically overpriced models, not to mention most of the imperial ones look shite or have old faulty moulds, as with all Epic stuff these days.

I should probably kitbash/scratch build some Orc, Tyranid and Chaos titans one day though, that would be pretty easy to do.

Unbeknownst to me, the IG player had recently purchased Creed, and the store owner had made a deal to lend the IG player his 3 warhound titans to use in a IA formation. I on my own, had pulled out the stops. The game we were going into was a invasion type scenario, where the Imperium was mustering its forces to deny the xeno filth a key comms tower. The comms tower battle was going to be a battle within a battle, a standard 40k battle within a larger apoc battle, with apoc force allotments. To wit, I brought in my secret weapon, 50 terminators that I had gained over time from other people selling their armies of various configurations, all of whom would be keyed into defensive locations around the tower, essentially a big square loaded with defenses. I planned to dig my heels in and dare the Tau scum to take it from me.

Our battle plan was to be sneaky as fuck: Force the Tau players down streets and alleys to limit the rush, deny them safety of JSJ, bombard units when we could and use hydras and point defense guns to bring down the fast flyers, then have SM infantry and fast attack come in to isolate, outflank, and crush individual squads outright.
It worked, sorta. While the mantas were weathering the storm, their flyers were dropping from the skies, and our outflankers were coming strong due to the comms tower. We surrounded and ground crisis suits to paste, bassies shelling the ones we could not envelope in murderous crossfire. They came back strong, taking out tanks and pills boxes, jumping out of ambushes, SM dying in the droves. Then they came for the comms tower, after taking 2 of the games 5 objectives on the far edge of the map. I was waiting for them/

Every person that ever said vanilla termies weren't worth a shit would have shut their traps. The xeno trash fell upon my bunkers and METAL BAWKSES, and they burned and died in ignoble repute the way they should have. Bolters, asscans, cyclones flared, autosensed building defenses came to life, dice were flying, fire warriors, suits, devilfish were dropping, I couldn't hide my grin as they walked to certain doom.
Then, the goddamned manta came overhead.

Now, for everyone that has never dealt with a manta, they are considered a transport, an oversized, upgunned transport.
It dropped some 40 crisis suits right into the square, bypassing my frontline defenses. Imagine LotR, Battle of Helm's Deep, when the Deeping Wall was blown up. It was like that. I pulled landspeeders from other battles in a desperate attempt to shore up my defenses, but it was too late. They were all over me, plasma and flamers hitting my entrenched termies,, manta bringing down fire on any support from friendly skimmers and flyers. Hell, the best I could hope for was that when they went down, they crashed into the suits ripping me to pieces.
My IG buddy couldn't even support me, because due to the way the Square was constructed, tanks couldn't get in, and the bassies needed to keep fire up on his end just to stay on the level, while I used the wrecks of his russes to give cover to my SM.
I finally made the decision to surrender the now overrun comms tower to the xeno menace, but they would not have. I had my few remaining termies escape the square, and directed my IG buddy to shell the tower, using my last landspeeder as a spotter.
The tower went down in a full apoc explosion, taking out ALL Tau forces in the square, the landspeeder and 3 of my remaining 8 termies on top of damaging the manta.
    Ave Imperator, motherfuckers.

After that, shit went down hill in a hurry. I didn't expect the fools to devote an entire manta to taking the square, and it was only by the blessing of He Upon His Throne that the manta in question dropped it's entire payload, LOSING said payload and was damaged in the effort, losing many of it's guns. We began to pull back, my SM leaving behind squads in buildings to harry Tau forces and buy time.
At this point, the Tau Alliance was in full gloat mode, smiles, drinks and brofists abound. They took the time to kill each individual squad I had left behind to a man, slowly moving up the mantas to recover suits to drop later and shelling buildings to rubble if the occupants proved "stubborn". My buddies sentinels were getting greased by the ton, and for 2 turns, we got our shit handed to us, the ONLY good thing to come about was my LR Terminus dropping one of the mantas, the Sanctum of Peace, causing it to come down hard, losing nearly all of the suits and troops onboard and killing a score of ground troops.

It was turn 5, or 6, don't remember. The asskicking was going in full swing. Losing the manta and the troops enraged the Tau and was a heavy shot of morale for the Imperial forces. We were skirmishing with them, using units to draw them out in their bloodthirsty anger, again surrounding and crushing them, but we had neither the numbers nor might to continue it.
Finally, the reserve roll. I remember that moment. My buddy's eyes lit up, he had the biggest grin I've ever seen on a man that wasn't on my own face, and with one word, changed the fate of the battle.
    >CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED
and the owner brought out 3 warhound titans and plonked them on the flank. Commence jaw dropping, yelling, arguing, while my buddy lit up a cigarette. I expected him to say U MAD, XENO SCUM?
It was glorious beyond compare. In a single salvo, they dropped a manta in a apoc explosion, killing so many guys I didn't bother to count the models and nearly bringing the other manta out of the air. The next salvo eliminated almost all the suits that were assaulting out front line. In subsequent turns, we surged forth, russes lumbering out, tonk shocking whatever could be reached after blowing warriors away, I embarking all the remaing SM I had on transports and pushing forward.

We took back the square, we took back the barracks and slaughtered the Tau that were in it, tanks threw fire and death and the titans reigned supreme over the battlefield, uncontested lords among children.
The Tau quailed with fear and fled before the might of Man in it's full brilliance, the last manta retreating far to the rear, leaving behind many fire warriors and suits with no cover or safety, no mercy ask and none given.
We took back almost the entire city in one fell, unstoppable wave, pushing the Tau to the last objective they held. Held they did, at that, their courage not failing them at the end.
They struck back as only a cornered beast can, throwing themselves upon us like wolves. The manta surged forward, and in a final act of defiance, levied all it's remaining weapons on the titans, felling one in an explosion that killed many on both sides before being felled by the remaining titans and the combined might of the tanks and raiders we possessed.

The battle continued for a bit more, before the last suits were destroyed and the last fire warriors run off.
The battle concluded, we counted up the casualties. I personally lost 44 terminators, 64 sm, 4 techmarines, 4 rhinos, 3 razorbacks, 4 landraiders and 9 landspeeders.
In a point game that was 7-9k Imperial and almost 29k Tau, we won handily.
They're gone now, the Tau Alliance. Of the group, 3 are left, and only 1 plays regularly. Never had a battle like that before, likely never will again. It was a good game, the defining game of my 40k days, and I'm happy that I could have it. I'll carry it fondly for the rest of my life, I think.
    Ave Imperator, anon, signing off.

Relevant Imperium quote that the tau fight:

What is victory? Is it to defeat your enemy on the field of battle? Is it to simply repulse his armies and slay his misguided warriors? No, this is only the beginning!

True victory is to crush your foe utterly, to shatter his armoured legions and run down his fleeing troops as they scatter. Pursue them to their lairs and burn them out. Burst into his unholy temples, smash down his icons and topple his foul idols. Burn his heretical works and leave no stone upon stone. Slaughter his followers, their families and their livestock lest any of their taint remain. And when that is done, put the ruins to the torch.

Any that have dealt with them or given them succour must be obliterated, for memory is insidious and though you have crushed their will and their bodies they may yet return. Send warrior scribes to excise the records of their name, expunge their deeds from the annals of history and remove even the memory of your foe’s existence. Only then have you truly won.

That is the meaning of victory.

your story reminds me of an apoc game i played a looooong time ago

    *lights up his pipe*

it involved me (Guard Infantry/Artillery) another Guard (Iron Storm mechanized Vets, tanks and hydras) and a Space Marine player and a Grey Knight player

    vs.

Three Tau (two having nothing but fire warriors and the second being nothing but suit and broadside support) and two...guel'va (they were Guardsmen players that forsake the emperor equipped like the Tau players)

in total it was an even 60k points for both of us split amongst 5 players on each team as even as we could do it.

The story behind it (my LGS loves having some RP elements to it) the Tau were expanding into our sector and we had to stem the tide and push them back, the battle was drawn out across a five planet front, ill skip the other four and focus on the fortress game we played.

The Tau coerced the garrison of this fortress world to their side and we had to go seize it back for the glory of the emperor.

We all set up our forces (took us nearly three hours) then we broke for lunch.. when we got back, the manager and ref for our game had a surprise for both sides, he bought us a Manta and Titan (titan for us Manta for them) just for being good customers, and allowed us to use them during the game (he painted them and everything0

And then the battle begun in earnest

We won initiative but the tau stole it (dirty theives should've seen that coming) and moved out of their fortress into the trenchworks (where my army was stationed) which resulted into a bloodbath i lost most of my front line about half of my first company (about 200 units) were scythed down by the Tau opening barrage. and we lost several tanks and basilisks due to their heavy support.

the fighting was taking place between trench lines, flamers spewing liquid death upon both sides, charges and counter chargers were had, Space Marines dropping by drop pods into their rear and eviscerating the vile traitors by scores

Charges were made on both sides, blast templates were scattering by the boatload, men were screaming for their mothers...and thats when the God Machine made its entrance

oh sorry, it was another Blob guard like me i was holding the front and he was to act as a second line.

When my friend (the other blob guard) rolled for it, he mustve not expected it to come out (afterwards i found out that whenever he tried rolling for its reserve roll he was always getting ones) for when the dice fell, the only thing he could say was "holy shit" he walked over to the table where it was held, picked it up like a child and placed it on our board side. The Tau players were starting to get nervous, for their manta was busy ferrying more troops from their rear to the front lines. which was steadily growing closer and closer to the fortress walls.

We were getting kinda cocky about it, which prolly lead to our first major hindrance of that game. in the middle of the map was a bunkey and comm station which would acft as an anchor point allowing us to bring troops and sentinel reserves into play from there. so i started moving all troops i could to it to take it from the tau.

Problem was, they had a hammerhead waiting nearby for that. It popped out and obliterated three of my squads and most of a fourth and the remains of that offensive were set upon by their kroot allies. It seemed like overkill 10 kroot vs 4 guardsmen.

sadly out of the four there only three came out (lucky to wound dice only left one wound on them) and now it was my turn to roll

sadly i wish i could say that all three triumphed and came home to glorious reunion to their loved ones, but sadly the only one that was left standing when the relief got there was the heavy flamer clutching the dead corpse of his dead friend the Commissar with hands covered in tau blood.

The main battle was still going on nonstop, tanks were dueling across trenches and in the ruins, men died by the hundreds. Hammerheads Crashed, Leman Russes were torn asunder. And when victory looked assured, thats when the Manta crushed it, in one fell swoop, it darkened the sky with battlesuits and exacted a terrible toll on the tanks, with that done, they turned their attention to the guardsmen in the trenches.

But there was still hope for that is when the Titan moved and unleashed fiery wrath, focusing on the Manta. it swatted it out of the sky like a bothersome gnat, sending it crashing through the front wall of the fortress crushing the defenders under its weight. with renewed hope the Guard and their Space Marine Allies charged forth with "For The Emperor!" on their lips.

but all is not all that it seems...

When the Guardsmen first entered the fortress, what they saw made them recoil in horror, strewn around in a macabre ritual the remaining guel'va showed their true colors...TO CHAOS! in one fell swoop the remaining guel'va killed themselves and beckoned in the forces of Chaos unleashing untold horrors upon both sides Bloodthirsters strode through masses of troops killing them all with swings of their massive blades. and that is when the Grey Knights made their presence felt.

120 Grey Knight Terminators deep strikes into the heat of battle, throwing the daemons and their cultists into disarray. emboldened by their new saviors the remainder of the Imperium forces fell into line behind them.

but sadly it was not enough, the daemons were too much and repelled all attacks, and thus the call of exterminatus was called and what few forces that could escaped leaving the world to its fiery death.

and thats it, not really a TITAN YEAH game, as the titan spent more times stunned *luckily it didnt explode* but it was still pretty amazing and no one saw the tweest at the end

in total the death count were
    Tau: 47k points lost

If we're going to be telling epic 40k stories, I think I need to jump in on this.
It was a couple of years ago, in the waning days of 4e I believe. I had just built my DKK army up to 3k points and we were playing a good old story-based campaign. A good old Chaos versus Imperium Of course, I was on the Imperial Side and my blue coats were kicking a lot of ass.
But about half-way through the campaign, I ended up on a team with two people I would come to regret ever having teamed up with. One because he was the most worthless Dark Angels player I had ever met and the other because he was the sneakiest, most devious bastard I have ever met.

This was a match I will always remember, three thousand points to each player and 3v3. Or at least that's what we were told. It was us, the Krieg 23rd Artillery, some Dark Angels successor chapter, and that devious fucking bastard playing his puzzle-camoed Urdeshi 7th. Well... let me tell you a little something about Devious Bastard. He loved him some Gaunt's Ghosts, and unsurprising, with his talent with green stuff, he had been working on a Blood Pact Army. Lo and terror was I to find that he'd finished converting it. Our own camps bled red as my guns were silenced and that bastard of a Dark Angels player continually refused to be useful and pull his men out of reserves. REFUSED. WHILE I WAS BEING SLAUGHTERED. But my blue coats held their fucking ground against 12k points in Traitor Guard, Death Guard, World Eaters, and Alpha Legion. I held those fields alone for nearly four turns, when terminators began entering the field to actually help me, regardless we were just barely holding that one objective and my Grenadiers and Basalisks were just barely holding the tide at arm's, or rather bayonet's, reach.

Oh the stories that could be told about that battlefield! But that was not the best part. We lost there and were pushed back in the campaign to another part of the map, which was a massive table made in the form of a wrecked Imperial Church. Due to the betrayal, we would get a two out of three chance to hold the mission and take an Imperial Victory. But in the second battle we were restricted to foot soldiers only the foot soldiers on our campaign sheets(all of us) and we had to hold the only objective for the entire game. There was no way we were doing this with my army reduced to about half and my good friend the reluctant Dark Angel unwilling to field his forces before three turns.
My men held that objective up until the very last second of round six.
It was a brutal battle! Our blood run down the alters of every inch of the cathedral as my firelines fell back pew by pew to the alter. Squads fell until all I had remaining was half a squad of grenadiers squad of grenadiers. But for every man of mine slain I had taken three of theirs! And my ally had finally come in and been slaughtered like a child, half of his termies having teleported into walls and the such or been generally surrounded and pounded to death. But there, there at the altar we had to hold for six turns! My men slew rank after rank of enemy until all that stood was my standard bearer! Oh how he held that ground! The entirety of round six was just him surviving. His last action was to slay a Chaos Terminator Lord before he was cut down by a power fist. I can see it, the standard sticking out of that dread lord's chest as that final Korpsman prayed for the Emperor's Wrath and was cut down.

It was kind of an "Oh shit" moment when he started placing this bastards in red waving chaos banners around. It was just kind of "Hey, what are you doing pulling those guys out? Aren't you playing Urdeshi?" "Naw man, totally betraying all of you." Good laughs were had, bought the bastard a drink for pulling this one on us with the coordinator. Not everything actually has to play strictly by the rules when you're not playing at a GW.

Mother fucker even had his command squad in a "liberated" Urdeshi chimera so we had no clue about what was going on until he pulled the wool.
And I'll admit not all the guys at GW were dicks, but I'll give it about a 50/50 ration. The cool ones tended to be the ones who joined us for this shit at the LFGS because the manager was a cunt half the time and stoned off his ass the other half. We liked him better when he was stoned. And once convinced him to let us field an Imperator titan we'd made out of legos in a store Apoc event. It was that Christmas one where Santa got nine super heavies to defend him against thirty thousand points of everything else they could bring to bear or something. He thought it was fucking hilarious when he was baked out on his gourd.

Yes but it has its drawbacks. Cobra's gun has a shorter range and its only AV12 and has virtually no secondary weapons.
It is however cheaper in points, fast for a super heavy, has a 4+ invulnerable save if you move and its main gun not only ignores shields but is also a 10" D weapon!!! which is just scary

I think GW dropped the ball on the shadowsword, its only a 5" large blast. It's half a turbo laser with a little bit more range. You can get a warhound with a turbolaser on each arm for less than double the cost of the shadowsword.

It's not *bad*, it's a hell of a lot cheaper on your wallet than buying a warhound, that's for sure.

Problem is if you have a shadowsword kit, you're almost always better off using it to build the stormsword. S10 AP1 10" pizza plate with no cover saves. Flatten everything that isn't a titan and leave the titan hunting to the chainfist terminators and other titans.

As a regular titan user let me tell you one thing: I don't really care about shooting. You have to dedicate a ridiculous amount of shooting to bring the Titan down, shooting that could be used to whack a lot more from the field. Chainfists are the true bane of titans.

Up to you, they're both equally as good. Personally I'd go with scorpion, you get 2 D weapon shots so more likely to cripple a baneblade. But the cobra isn't beat for raw destructive power- if you have decent assault troops to kill titans go cobra.

I once did a 10k vs 10k epic game on vassal.

Orks vs Imperial Forces, the Orks had about 4k's worth of Gargant Big Mobs, and 6k normal Ork Warhorde. Imperial had 4k Titan Legion, 4k Minervan Tank IG, 2k Space Marines.

At that points level the game actually changes quite radically into figuring out which detatchments should have priority, who to move first, who to risk the second initiative action with, that sort of thing.

One of the bigger centerpieces was what was effectively a Snapper Gargant Mob facing off against a pair of Reaver Titans backed up by Super Heavy Tanks.

The opening blows went to the Reaver Titans, one of them savaging a Gargant with it's Melta Cannon, this was then followed up with a combined assault with both Reavers, finishing it off.
This however left them overextended and exposed, the other two Gargants poured fire into the two of them, eventually taking them and the mounted Chaplain led Tactical Company in a Corvus pod down.

They weren't able to cement this victory however, as they were kept at bay by the super Heavy tanks as well as the Leman Russ Laser Destroyer tanks that came around the ruins to engage them.

This allowed the two Warlord Titans to face off against the huge 7 Gunfortress mob and the Great Gargant on the left flank, eventually winning the Imperium the game.

Gentlemen, prepare yourselves for a tale of trickery, destruction, humiliation, and the ruination of the xeno scum that dares to threaten the imperium of man.

This story begins with a simple premise. A casual 4v4 Apoclypse game between friends, of sorts. On the side of the Imperium of Man, myself, two older gentleman named Don and Mark, and a younger fellow named Corry. All four of us were known in the store as die hard IG fans (Remeber this is before our newest codex and before the OLOLOLtanks edition) and we had

The Xeno side however was an amalgamation of dirty alien breeds, two tau (One with kroot), a tyrannid, and an eldar. It seemed nearly all Xeno desired a piece of this planet. Unfortunately for them, they had no clue for that which they were in store for. You see, the leader of the Xeno forces was a character named Chris, you see /tg/ Chris.....Chris is a power gamer. Constantly running a land raider in his black templar group in games around 1000 points against people who were playing for the first time and learning the game. Needless to say he wasn't very popular among the people who enjoyed playing for fun. Because of this my insane idea to bring the Fury of The Emperor was easily passed amongst my own team members. “How do we even build one?” “Is there rules for a Warlord?” “We've only got -three days.” Many things were brought up, but no one would deny the power that it could bring to the table. I gathered my team and with the aid of the tyrannid player (Who thought the idea was hilarious, as he too didn't like Chris) were assembled a foam board titan, and to polish off the idea of the purge that was ahead, we bought and ruined a tau hammerhead as a trophy for that which we had created.

With our IG players hard at work plasticarding the bastardized behemoth that we had created (Its not the best, but hey, what can you do with isolation foam, a foam cutter and plasticard when it was our first time building something of this size?) we started to bit it up with everything we could spare, 4-5 Imperial Machinaiums were used for the engine housing on the back, plenty of plating was added to the shoulders and weapons were formed out of the hodge podge bits were could get out of hobby stores. Sadly we were out of time and could not bit up the weapons as much as we would have liked. The two primary weapons would have to go with their bare bones set up. With the battle looming in the morning, we dusted off what we had and gave it a good coating of black primer to at least cover what we had an make it presentable. The time had come....

As the final touches were being placed, I had spent a great deal of an hour pouring over the datafax of the Warlord titan, picking out which weapons would be the best use for such a threat. Gentlemen, I simply say that what these monsters can carry are nothing short of the glory of The Emperor himself. I had the weapons outfitted and the princeps briefed for the battle.

Every good general knows that the battle begins well before the first shot is even made. There's a great deal of meta game that goes on around out store, and today I was counting on it. Lists have a tendency to “change” once you see what the other player has on their table and so I took this idea with me. I had laid out a smattering over heavy weapons, artillery and tanks knowing that my reputation as a triple basalisk infantry list would likely be expected. The feign was on the table, and as Chris walked in, I saw his eyes make contact with the setup behind me, and I knew he had taken the bait.

The beat down we had planned was going to be so complete that I was shocked when I saw that my teammates had switched their list around for a slightly different ridiculous approach. One had dumped his standard vanquisher platoon for nothing but Grey Knight Terminators, Deathwatch, Inquisitors and a god damn Defense Laser. Another was taking 2 Baneblades and 2 Baneblade variants. Meanwhile I had simply stuck with my Warlord, 2 Enginseers, and the rest of my points dumped into autocannons for close defense.

Then we saw what Chris had brought....it had made our jaws drop. No my friends, it wasn't a Manta, some odd tau flier, or even a ridiculously stupid home made datafax....he brought his girlfriend to watch what he thought was going to be his most glorious triumph.

Deployments went as planned, the tau had placed a dinky supreme headquarters for bonuses to their anti-tank weapons and sprinkled skimmers about to keep us guessing where they were going. I was not worried, for I knew where they were going. All of them, to hell. Our deployments were quick, placing maybe less than a dozen models in a mere 30 seconds, defense laser in the back corner with the enginseers, a couple baneblades and a smattering of infantry to guard the titan. That is when we brought the beast out.

At this point, the Imperial side was busting up laughing, the Xeno side (save for our tyrannid friend who had helped us slap this together over the course of a couple days) did not seem as amused. Chris even tried to argue that it wasn't allowed until I took the time to show him the sheet in the apoc booklet.

He pouted. He pouted hard. Their turn was first, and they made the worst mistake possible. Due to the fear instilled in them by this beast, they fled to the nearest cover they could find, and due to their fear they would fall, as they all started to bunch up close together....

As our turn came, I laughed, the xeno had done nothing but flee to save their own lives...it would be a plan that would fail miserably. To add insult to injure I walked across the table and replaced an objective marker with a bottle of astroglide which I had purchased before the fight, “I hope you claim this one, you'll need it.” I strode back behind my titan and prepared to unleash hell upon the godless fiends.

The gatling cannon laid waste to a pair of skimmers that did not make it into cover, if they were going to make a mistake, I would not interrupt them. The volcano cannon reached out and vaporized a forest full of thirty kroot who were waiting for a chance to leap out and strike down any passers by. Chris by this point was almost literally throwing his models into boxes and refusing to throw cover saves for anything due to the “unfairness of it all”. Because of this brash attitude, I let loose the Apocolypse Missile launcher upon the supreme headquarters, laying it to waste and knocking out two broadsides. With his stratagem gone, he had barely anything left on the table, and little held in reserve. At this point he had left in a huff for a smoke, when his models needed to make saves, I simply had his girlfriend do it for him, she seemed interested and I let her play. You see, we may hate xenos, but the guard is in it for the bitches. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL FRIENDS!

So I'm noticing a pattern in these battle reports: Imperium crushing Tau.

Why is that? Are the Tau and Imperium just the two most popular armies you see in Apoc games, or is this just because /tg/ has a serious hate on for the Tau and thus are only telling stories where they get stomped?

I think it's like how a large majority of female players play nids. The Tau seem to attract a certain type of player. It's not to say ALL Tau players are THAT GUY, but perhaps a lot of THAT GUY's prefer the Tau.

By this point the table exploded into the respective armies flooding onto the table, baneblade salvos roared overhead as tau plasma flung about the board in a vain attempt to remove the imperial armor from the table. Traitor marines even made a token appearance (a new player who had never played apoc wanted to join, so we let him hop in with some tanks and his infantry.) as they attempted to make a run for the defense laser, a warhound titan poped in on their flank (CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!) and stomped the close combat marines into the dirt.

The xeno turn following was an attempt to return fire, however something unexpected happened, our second tau friend opted to raise moral and take care of matters himself as his general showed himself on the battlefield. General Farsight himself deepstruck in front of the Warlord, complete with a dozen battlesuits and enough shield drones to protect Holy Terra herself. Now, the Imperium of Man knows of these tricks, we know them well. I calmly handed him my stratagem card and nodded to it for a read. I had placed a beacon behind the right leg of my Titan, and anyone who deepstruck within 3 feet of it would be moved to a location of my choice on a 4+......I rolled a 6. His turn ended with being placed a paltry 4 feet in front of the warlord. Remember friends, this is before you could run to spread out. My turn had come. “Moderati.” “Yes my Princeps?” “Bring the torso about, bearing 3-0-2 degrees. Target Farsight.” “Yes Sir.” “....belay that order....” “Sir?”

That's a pretty extreme example of TITAN SMASH. Also if you were firing a volcano cannon your opponent wouldn't get cover saves- D weapons ignore them, which is why spamming quad turbo warhounds is so deliciously broken at the moment.

The missile rocked the entire chassis of the mechanical wonder, as a bus sized rocket of incredible power lifted from the shoulder of the titan. Hundreds of purity seals fluttered in the wind as the weapon of incomprehensible power blazed across the smoke filled skies. I rolled for scatter...it scattered from its intended target....by one inch. In a brief flash of light and a thirty yard wide explosion of pure warp energy, a dozen battlesuits, General Farsight, the ground fifteen feet beneath him and the forest he stood beside had simply ceased to exist.

The Titan resumed fire on the remaining xeno without a second thought as ordinance rocketed across the table slamming into the alien infested ruins. Good news came from the far side of the battlefield, the Grey Knights had secured the lube in the name of the Emperor, when the Eldar counter attack had came, Wraith Guard in tow, the Chapter Master had landed a direct hit with a vortex grenade, sending them to their doom.

Tyrannids had begun to crawl from the ground as a trygon removed a baneblade from the field, and genestealers started to claw their way to the titan, all but four were removed as the massive foot of the steel beast lifted and crushed the bugs into dust. The Commisar of the 507th Cadian Light Infantry screaming litanties down to them from tops of the shoulders of the titan.

With the final turn the Titans weapons had crushed the tyrannid threat in front of it, and spent its final turn templating whatever had not been sent to its misbegotten gods yet. With the other armies mopping up before the game had ended, xeno forces were almost destroyed to the man, the only survivors were a pair of battlesuits and three firewarriors. All objectives secure, defense of the planet is complete.

After this was all said and done, I thanked the three xeno players (Chris had left, dragging is girlfriend off to some other place after he gathered his things) for playing and understanding what happened. We did our usual post Apoc dinner (these are all day events!) and bought them their food for being rather phenomenal sports about the whole thing. To this day, Chris has never played another Apoc game, and has seemed to tone down his lists against new players. On that day I think I did our store and the Imperium a great service. I don't think you can use templates against mantas unless they are AA mounted (only one I know of is the Necron Pylon there). But if those were oldish titans from before the apoc rulebook and forgeworld gave a free selection of weapons, I'd bet a few of them had mega bolters, which will absolutely RUIN a Manta which is only AV10

this. Only reason to archive something on sup /tg/ is if it has tons of pictures that you need full size. Quest threads, draw threads and "i have cool pictures " threads. At least one those are against the suptg rules for whatever it's worth, so suptg becomes a quest repository.

Two Titan stories, both however, are far from epic. First story:

There is a Titan on the table and so far it is nigh unstoppable.

Then it happens... The guy everyone in-store loved to hate (his heart was in the right place, but he just had this thing where he couldn't look at something without touching it) moves a unit of (poorly painted) Scottish-Marines and as he pulls his arm back, he knocks his team mates Titan.

The Titan is at the edge of the table.

    Everything goes into slow motion.

Somebody yells for their mother, asking that she fetch a spoon.

The titan hits the floor and explodes, sending resin everywhere!

That Guy made no effort to apologise, and was never seen again. It is suspected he returned to Scotland.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/11(Sun)21:20 No.14710023
    >>14710009
    Second story:

Marine vs Marine apoc game, Crimson Fists and Blood Angels Vs. Dark Angels and Space Wolves (inb4 wtf!?)

The Crimson Fist player has the most useless Titan ever and the Space Wolves player has a Land Raider carrying models equipped for close combat Titan killing totalling over 1400 points.

The game begins and no matter what is thrown at it, nothing seems to be able to stop that Land Raider from charging towards the Titan. In the mean time, the Dark Angels have pretty much tabled the Blood Angels save for a single Sanguinary Priest who would go on to hide behind a ruin for the rest of the game until the last turn, where he would leap out and contest an objective held by the other team, allowing his to claim victory.

The Land Raider is a mere turn away from making its final push and disgorging its contents upon the Titan, who still hasn't managed to kill anything yet. The Blood Angel player brings on his final reserves - a JP Librarian with Honour Guard.

The Librarian throws his vortex grenade at the Land Raider. It scatters back towards the Librarian, but not far enough to catch him - it just barely clips the side sponson of the Land Raider, condemning it and it's contents to the warp.

The Librarian and co were then shot to pieces by a rather furious Space Wolf player, but the Titan was saved. It still never managed to kill anything though.
