!IMYfe1j54Y 04/20/11(Wed)01:42 No.14653554Walker's entire mood was thrown off by Fierstrom's comment. So when he heard her addressed as "High Inquisitor," it wasn't him hearing incorrectly. Still, it came as a shock, and it took him several moments to wrap his head around the idea.
Folding his arms, Walker chewed on Fierstrom's words in a clearer state of mind - at the very least, it was not as clouded by anger as it was 30 seconds ago. After several moments of silent contemplation, Walker sighed.
"Well, we can't have that, can we? I dislike having to deal with paperwork at my own level - asking you to take on even more due to my... own personal inadequacies would be unfair, no?"
Walker dryly joked, smiling as he looked to his former boss, the toll of the past weeks and years of combat making themselves known in a weary smile.
"But if it had been me? Ignoring the traitorous act by King, negating weeks of effort to acquire skilled naval mercenaries to assist us in our fight, I suppose I would have divided my forces along the battleships, and fought at a distance. Hit and run tactics: take a crippling shot at a distance, then fall back, and when the Maks move to intercept, hit them again from a different direction."
Walker sighed again, and, removing his hat, ran his hand through his short cropped graying hair.
"What King was planning, I have no idea. While he has so far had an excellent track record prior to this battle, especially considering the forces he's faced each time, the fact still remains that he messed up, bad, nearly crippling us."
Walker stared at the vidwindow displaying the Leviathan, and recalled the naval battle that King commanded. Against a superior force, King managed to hold out, although with casualties.
"And that he betrayed our allies, even if they were pirates... I don't suppose you believe this warrants a death sentence, do you, High Inquisitor?" |
