We got a bit done in the second thread, but not we still haven't decided on a proper color scheme and chapter badge.
Consensus seems to point to a black, gold, red and white color scheme. The current badge ideas are the rising sun, a mon and a mon depicting the rising sun.

Have we settled on a name for the subsector they govern? I submit it should be called Yamato.

If we can keep the idiot-anons on subject, I propose we get some shit done. I want to have a scheme to work with before sunday.

I like the Mon depicting the rising sun. Going to work with the Marine painter and see if I can come up with something coherent for once, instead of the normal mish mash.

Yes they are Asian (with White Scars geneseed) and have domain over a subsector (similar to Ultramar) which contains a number of planets with varying levels of technology, one being pretty much exactly how you describe, which I believe in the subsector capital and another being a scifi version of WWII-era Japan (an IG regiment called the Ashigaru comes from there and often works alongside the Rising Sons).

Mitsuhide fatally wounded Nobunaga in a climatic duel, who was later encased in a dreadnaught. Oda Company and the rest of the Rising Sons chapter swears revenge!

Someone pitched some planet ideas within the Rising Sons' realm. I've fleshed 'em out a bit. Lemme know what you think.

    >Capital of Subsector Yamato
    >Medieval tech level
    >Classic Sengoku age japan on a worldwide scale
    >A densely populated feudal world, where warring clans forever battle for honor and prestige. The Shogun resides here at the planetary capitol. The Rising Sons will often send representatives to view especially important battles and scout for potential space marines.

    >Heavily industrialized, not hive or forge however
    >Produces most of the chapters wargear
    >All major areas are controlled by forges/smiths/whateversoundsgood
    >Every 4 years, the various Forges "Bid" for the honor of producing the chapter's wargear through a period of intense conflict between them. The forge that captures the most territory is deemed to have constructed the best quality equipment and is thus awarded the contract. Techmarine are usually from here.
    >> Anonymous 04/20/11(Wed)03:08 No.14654285
    >Shrine world
    >The spiritual home of the chapter
    >Home to several cults that interpret the Emperor in different ways
    >Warfare is usually considered a "Holy War". Guns are frowned upon by some sects and embraced by others. To avoid undue damage to the shrines and temples, the wars generally consist of duels between champions or take place far away from the cities. The sites of the major battles tend to result in the foundation of a new shrine on that spot by the winning side, with the usual end being that the losing side's temple falls to pieces and eventually returns to being part of the landscape. this results in an eternal cycle of shrines being built and falling to pieces.

    >Primary Source of Ashigaru regiments
    >A highly militaristic world, Tojo is home to the fatalistic Ashigaru Imperial Guard regiments that often accompany the Rising Sons. They are renowned for their uncannily high morale and willingness to utilize suicide tactics at a moment’s notice. Bayonet charges into heavy fire are practically a trademark of the Ashigaru. The pilots within Battlefleet Yamato are also known to display this fatalistic attribute, often loading their small fighters with explosives and intentionally plunging them into enemy battleships.

Have we made any awesome special characters yet? If not, here is an idea:

The Oni: Shrouded in myth, the Oni was once one of the greatest members of the Rising Sons, but he made a mistake that severely damaged the chapter. He now wanders in shame, in an epic quest to redeem himself or die trying. Sometimes when his battle-brothers are in grave danger, he appears to assist them, but he always vanishes a few days after he leads them to victory. His true name is unknown, for he asked the chapter master to wipe him out of the records out of shame.

    Another planet idea.

A feral death world called Tengu. It spends much of its time eclipsed by another planet, causing it to have long periods of twilight and nighttime. Every couple of months, the planet slips out of eclipse and is blasted by harsh heat from the sun. The human population often seeks shelter in the planet's vast and thick forests, but the during this period, forest fires are also frequent. During the eclipse period, the human population is constantly on the run and hiding from Tengu's variety of dangerous creatures. To survive, Tenguese learn to be extremely adept at stealth and hunting. Many of the Rising Sons' ninja scouts are recruited from here.

Each company's mon is displayed somewhere on the space marine, usually the knee, helmet or back banner. Each chapter master relinquishes his old surname as replaces it with his company's name. Some, but not all space marines will do the same to display their loyalty to the company. Each of current chapter masters are named after each historical clan's most prominent daimyo, except for Oda clan, whose chapter master is Oda Hideyoshi as of 882M41, after the Akechi Betrayal which left the previous chapter master, Oda Nobunaga, fatally wounded and confined in a venerable dreadnought. However, when the chapter has need of him, he will leave his simple life and return to arms. Although he may take command for a time, he will return to his farm and hut on a feral world when it is all over.

Mifune was made a ronin, a disgraced battle brother, very early on in his career. However, after years of valor and heroic victories, he was accepted back into the ranks and hearts of his brothers. His rise from there was meteoric, and he is the first former ronin to ever rise in rank, let alone be chapter master. His attitude is slightly more pragmatic than his brothers, and his tactics can seem at times either weak or crude, but he always has a plan, and he always gets his results.

Best I can come up with right now.

Actually, I'm a fan of Oda myself, but in the end, it WAS the Tokugawa clan that took the Shogunate.
And yeah, I was thinking that certain companies would have favored methods of combat or units. Takeda Company being even bikier than the already bikey chapter, Oda Company favoring heavy weapons and artillery, Mori favoring space combat, Uesugi Company having renowned Chaplains, etc.

The battlebarge can be named after their sector. Battleships are commonly named after places, so naming their prized battlebarge after their realm would make sense.

The technical term for the banners is "sashimono". The heraldric device displayed on them is a "mon". Just some terms for fluff purposes or the like.

Haven't really been following the chapter's development, but black armour and white shoulderpads seem awfully... well, bland. I mean, the Black Templars and Raven Guard already both have the black armour motif.

Although if anything they really should have helmets that resemble samurai kabuto with a full maedate (the big crest things that curl outward).

Yeah, it's difficult to find an interesting color scheme and still keep it samurai-themed. Still, I see /tg/'s other recent homebrews like the Emperor's Nightmare and Abyssal Jaws use some interesting and unconventional colors. We need to find some interesting and unconventional colors that would still fit the theme.
These are the closest thing to it, since there aren't many dark blue and clay red space marines, but it's difficult to incorporate that to compliment a white and red chapter badge on the shoulder.

Not up for debate at all.

    Toshiro ftw!!!!!

Damn, I might have to start an army of these guys.

We've established >>14650477 (or at least a better looking version of it) is the official chapter symbol. Each company also has its own mon, which is usually displayed on the knee, helmet, sashimono, etc.
If any drawfags want to make an awesome looking rising sun mon based off >>14650477 we'd really appreciate it.

Lemme have a go at a special character... I'll work out a tiny bit of fluff (as I am kind of short on time right now) and allow others to build onto him.

Kitsune (Trying to work out a better name for him...) Is a lone wolf. He fights with two bolt pistols and a curve-bladed powersword. He was born to one of the warrior clans on Sekai. Eventually he was brought before the Shogun, and after years of training, became a Space Marine.

As I said, I am short on time and have to go... Sooo, there is my contribution for now, sorry guys!
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)17:47 No.14671607
Yeeeaaaah, I'd work on that. Try a classical samurai name. Try adding any two of these phrases in any order: hiro, hide, yoshi, yori, tora, musa, naga, shi, nobu, taka, koto. (hirotora, nobutaka, etc.)
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)17:56 No.14671674

Yeah, I wasn't too keen on using the name Kitsune in the first place... How about Hoshi Oda/Oda Hoshi, would that work?? I was thinking he would be a ronin-type character too, but I'm not sure if this chapter would have any ronin.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)17:59 No.14671691
Yeah, we've dabbled in some discussion regarding ronin. I think they're supposed to be wanderers who must atone for their failures and transgressions.

I did much of the initial work on the Emperor's Nightmare page. Give me a few hours and I'll have a rough structure for you.

I thought we were going to have the Ronin be marines sent off to the Deathwatch so they can regain their honor or something like that.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)18:34 No.14671936
    Agreed and same.

So, chapter hierarchy: Ten Damiyo, each with undercommanders, etc.
Lord: Mifune Toshiro, of No Clan in Particular. A former Ronin of Tokugawa Company.

Hey, here's an idea: Why not merge them and their guard counterpart into one unique army list?

Set up all the powers and units to fit their fluff better, drawing from both marine and guard elements.
Maybe also have it work kinda like this: Being picked to be a Rising Sun marine for the Clan/Company that rules where you are is a great honor normally only bestowed upon the upperclass and nobility. Amongst them, it is traditional for the eldest son to become a marine, also maintaining some kind of control over the family estate.
The eldest child of the second child (as, if I remember correctly, marines can't reproduce) will be trained to follow their uncle into their Clan's company of the Rising Suns.

If we go this route, it might be a good idea to make it assumed that this chapter is double-strength and commands either one star system or a few.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)18:42 No.14672010
They do control a star system it's talked about it earlier on in the thread. Another thing that was discussed is that each Company Captain has control of his company plus X amount of imperial guard regiments. The general in charge of the regiments would be like the Captain's retainer. It would be his job while the company is on crusade to stay in orbit and monitor intelligence reports casuality reports and deal with other crusade leaders while the Captain is planetside fighting.

The Rising Sons directly control the guard regiments? I thought they were just guardsmen that are recruited from the subsector they govern.

Aren't the Imperial Guard regiments ran by the Departmento Munitorum? I mean, as a whole. It seems like that letting a space marine chapter run a regiment of IG would be rather... uh. I don't think the Adeptus Terra would allow it.

Close allies, yes. Flat out ruling over them? Probably not. IG are tithed to the Imperium at large. Even in subsectors that have a huge Space Marine presence.

One of my homebrew chapters are fleet-based and have a LOT of civilians living aboard their ships, to the extent that the fleet has the population level of a planet. They train their 'fleet defence force' to IG levels, giving them the best equipment and using them in military operations . I figure the Administratum might not like it but if they keep themselves to themselves, not to mention maintaining strong ties to the Mechanicum, they'll be alright.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)22:24 No.14674243
Yeah, but isn't implantation of the gene-seed kind of a hit-or-miss thing? Not everybody will take to it, so if just the elites are chosen then the chapter wouldn't be as full because of a smaller selection pool. If the peasantry are also tested, then they are more likely to be over-strength.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)22:30 No.14674302

40k isn't exactly hard science fiction. Perhaps the noble families have selective bloodlines that are more tolerant and give a higher rate of geneseed success, or marginally higher at least.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/11(Thu)22:40 No.14674426
That could work. It could be that because certain bloodlines are more likely to have successful candidates, they've become noble houses because of the honor in becoming a Marine. The Rising Sons test all as a matter of course, but the peasantry just has fewer matches. So Marines from peasant lines are possible but unlikely, and are probably looked down upon by some of the Honorable Battle-Brothers.
