The year is 1995, and anti-mutant riots are sweeping the nation. Fearing what might happen to you if your true nature is discovered, your parents have enrolled you in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, where you can learn to harness your amazing gifts, or at least be isolated from those who fear and hate you. A few weeks ago you were simply Aino Virta, a fifteen year old girl living with a secret burden known only to your immediate family: your mutant power - until recently quite uncontrollable - to slow the fabric of time itself.


"Girls!" Ms. Frost snaps, gritting her teeth to maintain the last tenuous hold on her nerves. "I said you could listen to that ridiculous Ace of Base song *once*. ONCE. Then, in what is likely to be the largest mistake I have ever made, I allowed you to listen to it twice. If I have to hear about the sign one more time, I am going to lobotomize each and every one of you," she says, ejecting the CD from her car's system and giving it back to you.

As you click it back into your case the tall skyscrapers flit by and slow as the car comes to a stop in front of a thirty-story apartment building. "Ooh, ritzy!" Clarissa says, pushing herself over you halfway into the Lamborghini's front seat to look out the window. "This is where your parents live, Sam?"

"Huh?" Sam asks, distractedly. "Oh, yeah, um. They might be moving, so if you see some boxes and stuff, just ignore them." The doorman pulls the glass door open for you as the five of you walk into the lobby, tipping his hat to Ms. Frost as she follows you in.

"Oh, Samantha!" the woman shouts as she opens the door to the apartment. "My little angel!"

"Mom, I- aaah!" Sam cries as her mother wraps her in a very unrefined bear hug in the middle of the hallway. "This- aah, OK, OK! This is Aino, and Clarissa and Megan. They go to school with me," she says as her mother releases her.

"Hi, Mrs. Bihn," Megan and Clarissa say to Sam's mother before she looks at you and exclaims "And you're the girl from Finland!"

"Moooom," Sam interrupts. "She's not from Finland, she was just born there. She's lived in America for like a million years."

"Well, whatever. Come in, come in! You must be their teacher?" she asks Ms. Frost, who politely explains that she has not yet had the privilege of working with you or the other girls. "So what did you have planned for today?" Mrs. Bihn asks you. "I'm sorry it's such a mess in here." Indeed, as Sam predicted there are several boxes near the front of the apartment.

"Mom, you don't need a pos-" Sam starts before Clarissa interrupts her with "Ooh! Can we go to Four Freedoms while we're here?" Pleeeeeeeeeeese?" she begs Ms. Frost. Sam giggles and mouths 'Johnny Storm' to you.

Ms. Frost sighs. "Fine."

The chorus of girls' excited voices trails into the hallway as Mrs. Bihn waves to your backs. "I'll have supper ready when you get back!"

As Ms. Frost pulls to a stop outside Four Freedoms, you take a moment to look up at the impressive structure - one of the tallest buildings in Manhattan, with the number 4 protruding out of the roof at an angle it is definitely a remarkable building!

As you walk up to the glass-doored entrance a mail carrier leaving the building holds the door open for you. "Hello, ladies," he smiles. "Beautiful day out, isn't it?"

"I'm huuungry," Clarissa says as you walk in. "Ooh, what's Windows on the World?" she asks when you suggest it.

Inside is a spacious lobby done up in blue and silver chrome, with cutting-edge furniture and a friendly-looking receptionist behind the large curved welcome desk. "Hello, welcome to Four Freedoms Tower," she says. "Do you have an appointment?"

Clarissa looks dejected, and it's fairly obvious that she isn't looking forward to walking around a hundred floors of science stuff if there's no Johnny at the end. "Cheer up, dear," Ms. Frost says. "You'll feel better after lunch."

A few minutes later a sleek-looking robot the size of a human torso floats toward you at eye level and asks in a pleasantly human voice "Are you ready for the tour?"

And with that the tour begins! It's not as tiring as you had expected, since much of it is along automated platforms that whisk you along past demonstrations of theoretical concepts, possible machines to come, and all manner of things that could only be termed 'super-science'!

While in public Sam obviously keeps her feet on the ground, even though the main vocation of the Fantastic Four is well-known, and as the platform you are on slows to a crawl you pass a large glass-walled room in which a man in a labcoat and a blue suit somehow similar to the one you wear under your street clothes puts down the hood of a machine and removes his goggles before waving and welcoming you to Four Freedoms!

As your robot guide dispenses ice-cold water Dr. Richards asks "Any questions?"

However, this one has several improvements to the design. I believe it may be possible to dampen your powers, young lady," he says to Megan.

"Oh, I'm fine, really," Megan says, shrinking back a few inches. "We can just go."

As she steps up into the cylinder and stands in place, the tube hisses shut...

When it is all over the cylinder remains closed for a moment, and you can see Megan doing something inside it. An instant later the seal pops with a quiet hiss and the tube splits open again, revealing Megan holding her deactivated bracelet in one hand!

"Oh, wow," she says, slowly shaking her wrist and walking around. "I'm free!"

Following a team hug (something Megan has been severely lacking in for a while) you take a group vote for where to eat, with four votes for Windows on the World. "All right girls, time to go. Thank you for the lovely tour, Dr. Richards," Ms. Frost says, smiling at him. "It was nice to see you again."

"Ms. Frost. Girls," he says, nodding to you. "Enjoy your stay in New York!" he calls out as you leave the lab and follow your robotic escort to the elevators.

A forty-minute ride later (with a brief pause as Ms. Frost explained to the enraptured valet exactly what to do with her car) you walk up the street toward the World Trade Center! Clarissa takes some more pictures of it as you walk across the open space to the North Tower and enter the building. At the very top is Windows on the World, an exclusive restaurant recently renovated to offer an even better view of Manhattan from the top of the tower!

"Excuse me madam, I'm afraid I can't allow you to be seated wearing those clothes," the maitre d says to your group, before Ms. Frost catches his eye. "What- Oh." he says vacantly. "Of course, right this way please."

He escorts you all to a table, and though you are the only ones not wearing at least semiformal attire no one seems to notice at all!

Anything to talk about over lunch, or should we skip straight to our next stop? Speaking of which, where are we going? Either the Statue of Liberty or shopping; the tour took a little longer than you had planned!

Not exactly, O Eminent Enquirer. As near as we can tell, Aino's power acts to slow down anything inside its 100-foot radius to a standstill. Within that bubble of control is the "eye of the storm" as it were - an area where time flows normally. To someone outside the eye Aino might appear to be moving extremely fast (possibly too fast to notice). However, from a distance of more than one hundred feet she can still be seen. She also seems to be able to use the difference between those speeds to her advantage, though the specifics of that elude even us!

As for famous ancestors, we cannot confirm or deny that Elvis is her dad!
