    141 KB Gladiatrix Quest 2 gmq !!pyb5WSpixjT 04/19/11(Tue)01:57 No.14641861
The short version: You are a gladiatrix manager. Your goal is to make more money than you spend.

The medium version: You are "Gneutered," a gnoll and a former arena slave who earned her freedom. Knowing only one line of work, you became a gladiatrix manager.

Previously, you purchased a human convict and a lizardfolk woman, spent a month training them to fight with clubs and bucklers by drilling and sparring with you and each other, and then set them loose in arena fights that you set up.

Septimia, the convict, did all of the work for her randomly assigned teammate, shield bashing, kicking, and elbow dropping her way to a thoroughly solid win.

SSssS, the lizardfolk woman you have mentally nicknamed "Slicks," got grappled by a giant toad's tongue, only to bite the tongue, claw it, ride it back as it retracted, and bite said toad's eye out, allowing her randomly assigned teammate who was not being trampled by a giant toad at the time the opportunity to stab it repeatedly.

The arena pays you 10 SP for the event, bringing your total available SP to 76* (to review, unskilled slaves cost 25 SP, the most highly skilled arena slaves fetch prices of around 100 SP, and both of your fighters cost 12 SP each to equip).

It is the day after the fights. You are awake. It is early morning. You actually feel good about this. The first is probably the day after the last.

    The full version: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/14630047/

What is your course of action? Obvious starting prompts include preparing for next month's fights, and trading in slaves and/or equipment, you may want to investigate something else. Also, feel free to ask for in character knowledge.

*I may have given a different total at a different time. This was a fuckup.

Monthly fights? Well, then, let's buy another slave. The whole 'randomly assigned teammate' makes group work hard-ish, but we may as well work to maximize our odds, and take advantage of the experience of the slaves we do have while we're at it.

You pay a visit to the arena's office. As you expected, your fighters aren't famous enough to get warm-up fights against other no names, assigned at the last minute.

You stay and make yourself a pain in the ass. The official offers you a chance to impress him, provided it takes absolutely no effort on his part. It's something.

    >The whole 'randomly assigned teammate' makes group work hard-ish,

You signed up for those fights. There was actually a spot for two fighters on a team. Focusing on team tactics is a workable strategy if that's what you want.

    >Well, then, let's buy another slave.
Convicts and unskilled types go for 25 SP. Trained fighters go for 50-100. If you want someone more specific, figure out what you're looking for.

Check and see if there are any exotics available. Our lizardwoman was quite successful last time around, we might be able to make a theme of it.

If not, look for criminals who committed violent crimes- preferably not total psychos, but ladies who obviously aren't unwilling to get their hands dirty. We don't need to have the headache of making our gladiators brave as well as competent.

You check on the various merchants and find only humans. Two, based on your standards, stand out.

First, an unlicensed whore who would have been able to escape notice and continue peacefully whoring without a license had she not assaulted a would be customer (a minor noble's son), going for 25 SP.

Second, a pale, dark haired northern woman of no particular interest, other than being obviously foreign. She costs 35 gold -- the merchant implies that she is exceptionally pretty and justifies the extra cost. You have no way of verifying this.

    >>14642051
You were an arena fighter before earning your freedom, making his skill set somewhat redundant. Are you sure about this?

The concept of our gladiatrixes being pretty makes me wonder if we could raise cash by whoring them out on the side. I bet we could make a fair bit, particularly if any of them start gaining fame in the arena. Probably a lot of well-off people who would pay through the nose to sleep with a star.

You stop by your usual arms dealer (-12 SP, +1 armor, buckler, and club).

You refine your starting speech as best you are able, wondering how many times you will have to give it.

"I've accepted my fate -- I only wish that it wasn't written in the public record that I'm the unluckiest whore."

Antonina obeys your command to attack immediately. Within a few seconds it's obvious that she's completely without any sort of useful experience. She's slightly bigger than average; that's the extent of her useful abilities.

We can move on to the next two weeks of training if you don't have anything else to do immediately. If that's what you want to focus on, name some strategies and things to focus on.

Train them to fight both individually and as a team.

Winning the fight is important, but so is entertaining the crowd and avoiding serious injury.

Train our gladiators together; encourage them to bond and share techniques. Not only will they learn faster, we'll want to enter them in fights together in the future and that means learning cooperation well.

But really, they're not skilled enough to justify more than the basics here. Keep the proper attitude at all times- fierce and showy. Do not hesitate, but don't get overconfident when playing to the crowd. And drill them in combat essentials until they can do them in their sleep- nothing fancy yet, just the solid moves they'll need to win. We can add flourishes once they're competent.

    Early morning: Warm ups.

Late morning: Drills. After a brief introduction on the first day, you spend an hour or two shouting out the names of various maneuvers, while traveling down the line of your fighters and giving them hands on experience.

Afternoon: Free sparring. You take turns working with each fighter.

    Late afternoon: Group tactics.

Your explain the benefits of attacking as a unit, defending as a unit, and splitting the group into a harasser who fades away when chased and an attacker who pounces. Putting it into practice is trickier.

You've realized that pretty much any object that won't maim or kill can make a passable training weapon, so you use a different one each time to give the fighters some practice against different styles. At the start of the two weeks, the three of them put together are no threat to you. By the end, if your improvised weapon of the day is particularly stupid, they get in a few good hits.

    Time to visit Marianus.

New girl should go with Sept for a first time fight. Can't keep her away from the fray forever, and she might as well go with the girl who can People's Elbow the bricks off any bitch on the block. (Hype it up. HYPE IT UP) And maybe she'll pick up on how to successfully employ her elbow as well, or maybe come up with a flying leg-kick or something.

Slicks seems to be able to handle herself a bit better alone though, based solely off the fact that...well...she bit the shit out of a giant beast while one teammate was getting trampled and the other was standing around with her sword doing nothing for a while.
And when it comes down to it, her body probably has more potent weapons than a human's.
Losing a weapon in a 6-Fighter-FFA? Fuck it, switch to those mean-as-fuck claws. Rip. Bleed. Gouge. Win.

Summary: Sept+New Girl for team fight if available. Slicks if it's only a solo fight, whether multi-person FFA, or 1v1.

I'd go with this. Slicks would probably be great in a free-for-all; we can train her against the two others fighting together, which should give her excellent skills against multiple opponents and them excellent skills working as a team.

I am not inclined to throw our (basically average) gladiators against the best in our bracket just yet. That will happen naturally as long as we keep winning.

You sign up Septimia and Antonia as a team, against two opponents that look evenly matched with them, but you suspect that they will be able to beat.

Slicks is a bit of a trickier decision for you, but you finally settle in on putting her in the free for all. It's risky, but prestigious, and she's probably a hair more dangerous than Septimia, if you had to guess.

Two weeks until the event, wat do?

Might as well train them up. Strength, agility, all the physical attributes. Get Sept and Antonia to spar 2v2 or 2v1 vs SsssS or yourself to increase the cooperation and team skills. Also get our gladiatrixes to think up their finishing moves and how to apply them. Set a day up for this.

Have Antonia train with Sept , to try and learn how to work as a team.

Slicks can spar on and off with Sept for a bit, but eventually, put her up against both of the others so she can try out a few techniques against multiple foes.

Make a bit of a point to put in a few spars with Slicks being unarmed so she knows how to put those teeth and claws to better use if it comes down to it.

Since I haven't actually described everyone yet and I'm waiting:

Slicks is about 5'2, but denser than a human, even though it isn't obvious at first. Her scales are a bright greenish-yellow color. She's taken to wearing a cloth wrap around her chest to make herself easier to identify as female for humans.

Septimia is small, but has a strong-skinny build which has become more emphasized over the past month and a half. She has tan skin and dark hair, which was cropped close to her scalp when you bought her, and has grown out slightly.

Antonina has a similar color scheme to Septimia, but she is taller and has long, wavy hair. She is also a bit heavier.

You are basically pic related, but in a dress and with hands and shit. Look at you. So fluffy. So hilariously patterned.

    >Training Montage!
Training continues as usual. You switch things up a bit, but focus on developing skills that will be useful for the planned fights.

    >Also get our gladiatrixes to think up their finishing moves and how to apply them. Set a day up for this.
Slicks points out that, while her tail isn't much practical use in a fight, humans don't have them. She tries out various impractical grappling moves.

Antonina has no idea where to begin, but warms up to the idea of sitting on shoulders because it's straightforward.

Septimia starts wearing her elbow wrap more often.

    >Make a bit of a point to put in a few spars with Slicks being unarmed so she knows how to put those teeth and claws to better use if it comes down to it.

Once you verify that Slicks can bite you without drawing blood, this goes very well.

    Fight day arrives!

Scrubs, scrubs. Scrubs, other scrubs. Scrubs, a concussion. Snacks are consumed.

You are back(under?)stage, shouting things. Septimia is giving Antonina a quieter version of your speech about how nobody is dying and this is exactly like the drills. Slicks is doing some light stretches, but she isn't up for another few fights yet, whereas Septimia and Antonina are next.

Both teams are called to their respective entrances. Your team's opponents are armed with tridents. One is trailing behind the other slightly.

You yell at the conveniently passing by bookie, who is scribbling shit down and exchanging money for money documents. 5 SP: spent.

Meanwhile: Septimia and Antonina charge, splitting apart moments before coming into range. The gladiatrix in the front goes for Septimia, who stops short. She realizes her mistake and swings the shaft of her trident around to club Antonina, but receives a pre-emptive clubbing on the arm before she can finish. Septimia, of course, immediately moved into position to kick her legs out from under her. Down she goes.

Antonina lands a couple of inaccurate but powerful blows with her club before pouncing, planting her shins on her opponent's shoulders and pinning her. She raises her club to strike her downed opponent's face, only to stop when her opponent goes limp as visibly as possible, despite being fully conscious.

Septimia advances, parrying a trident thrust and entering a grapple with her opponent, who is stuck uselessly shoving her back with the trident's handle. A few moments later, she absorbs a headbutt. Shortly after that, Septimia knocks her to the ground and she drops her weapon, holding her empty hand in front of her and looking up at Septimia.

You yell more loudly than the surrounding people and harass the bookie into taking multiple specific bets, before taking Slicks aside and sharing everything you've observed about the competition.

Due to the large number of fighters, they all enter from the same barred door and spread out into a circle, waiting for the signal, which happens soon after they are in position. Slicks is between the strongest fighter by your judgement, and one of the weaker ones.

Slicks goes. She sets up her strike, feints, dodges a swung net, and... trades blows with her opponent as they both swing simultaneously.

Slicks' blow glances off her opponent's arm guard harmlessly. Her opponent's sword cuts across her armor, then keeps going, grazing her thigh. There's no such thing as "just a scratch."

Her opponent flinches. This earns her a backhand club swing to the jaw. She spins in midair and is unconscious before she limply connects with the ground.

Slicks charges. She must be aware that the longer this goes, the worse it looks for her.

Unfortunately, her opponent is quite nimble -- or on closer examination, confusing. She's difficult to keep track of, constantly bluffing as to her next move.

Fortunately, Slicks has figured out that passive, boring parries are the most reliable defense. All of the feints in the world do no good against them.

Slicks' counter attack strikes her in the side, and she follows with a shield bash that sends her to the ground.

On the other side of the arena, the two other fighters are still struggling. There's no obvious winner, but someone's buckler is lying on the ground, so one of them has to be making progress.

It works. But by the time a victor emerges, Slicks is favoring her leg noticably, whereas her opponent is only mildly banged up. After a brief period where both wait for the other to attack, Slicks is entangled in her opponent's net and knocked to the ground.
