The year is 1995, and anti-mutant riots are sweeping the nation. Fearing what might happen to you if your true nature is discovered, your parents have enrolled you in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, where you can learn to harness your amazing gifts, or at least be isolated from those who fear and hate you.

Only a few days ago you were simply Aino Virta, a fifteen year old girl living with a secret burden known only to your immediate family: your mutant power - until now largely uncontrollable - to slow the fabric of time itself. Yesterday you took your first trip away from the Mansion to see a movie in nearby Westchester with your new friend Sam, another student at the School and a mutant like yourself. Exiting the theater you witnessed a robbery taking place in a nearby store and sprang into action, using your capricious power to slow time in order to disarm, devalue and entangle the robbers, all while the rest of the mall stood motionless around the two of you. Whether it's all the time you've been spending in the Danger Room or the set of two identical clocks given to you as a means of practicing pinpoint concentration, you're finding that your power comes more easily now, at least when there's no stress. However, that idyllic situation is not always prevalent...

Professor Xavier lays the front page of the Sunday newspaper down on the desk of his office, the crinkling paper nearly deafening in the uncomfortable silence. You and Sam stand across the desk from him, as your eyes flicker over the headline:

    =============================
    BAD BOYS GET GOOFY

Two men who allegedly robbed Henney Jewelers in the Westchester Mall on Saturday claim they do not know how they became disarmed and hobbled as they exited the store. John Martin and Raul Gorge were arrested by police after being apprehended by mall security. A security camera shows the men leaving the store with the bag and weapons, but in the next frame of video the bag and weapons are apparently gone. Witnesses say the men ran out of the store, then tripped and fell at the same time a moment later. At the time they were arrested, both men were wearing ski masks and their shoelaces were tied together. Two firearms and a gym bag containing cash and numerous pieces of jewelry were discovered on the counter of the jewelry store after police arrived. The Westchester Police Department issued a statement saying that they are still investigating the incident.
    ===============================

"Girls," The Professor asks in his sonorous voice. "Do either of you know anything about this incident?"

    What do, Aino?

The Professor lets you speak, and between you and Sam a frenetic recreation of the events is spooled out. After the two of you finish your tale of heroism, he lets the silence hang for a moment.

"I see," he replies at last. "Girls, despite your intentions this truly was a matter best left for the police. Your powers are not yet reliable, and placing yourself in a situation where you could be injured or even killed simply to prevent a robbery is not something I can condone. There is also the matter of this," Xavier says, tapping a finger on the before-and-after stills of the security tape. "You may not have been seen my anyone - though that still remains a possibility - but there are those who are more than aware of our presence here, and who seek to use any irregularity as reason to become involved."

"For the next week I am grounding you both to the Mansion and the immediate grounds unless supervised by a member of the senior staff."

"Samantha, you may go now. Aino, please wait a moment, I have something I would like to say to you."

"I will never invade your mind unless you are in immediate danger, and only to the minimum required. If you choose to lie to me it will be known only to your conscience. You are excused."

Once the door to the Professor's office closes at your back you take a breath to calm your shaking nerves. That wasn't as bad as you'd expected!

    Reminds me of a joke.

In nazi german, lived this young couple.
The husband who was in business trips all the time, decided to write his girlfriend everyday.
These letters were rather... Romantic, and this is what was written on reply message.
    "Dear Günther.
As much as I love you, I would like that we left such lewd things to between us.
The NASDAP has a lot of intelligence operatives that read these messages and having something so private revealed to others is rather disgusting.

    Love
    Linda"
Then there was a sentence at the end of the letter, written on a different ink.
"We here in NASDAP never spy on civilian messages."

The Danger Room can wait for now. Besides, it seems like it's being used by the adults, anyway. Things have been... *odd*... around here since the night you arrived - even being new here you can tell. People disappear for a day, then return with bruises or cuts. The senior staff uses the Danger Room for an hour or more at a time, emerging in arguments that are quickly shushed once they realize the students are watching. You can't understand why a bunch of diplomats put so much emphasis on working out and honing their powers, but whatever.

Heading out the back door it's only a short walk to a fountain and the lawn beyond. Out farther is the woods, and although you assume the really thick woods are off-limits, you know there's a scrim of trees and a stream on this side of the woods; Sam pointed it out yesterday.

The ground underfoot is slightly springy from the recent days of warm weather, and you can hear birdsong amid the rustling of still-bare tree branches and the quiet burbling of the stream.

Ahead through the trees you catch sight of something moving, but it quickly vanishes back into the shadowed tangle of bark.

    Wat do?

Carefully picking your way closer to the stream, you see movement again, and before the figure disappears again you catch a glimpse of a human form - definitely not a deer!

Eager to find out what's going on, you jog forward, finding your progress slowed by the leafless branches that jut out everywhere... ahead of you a branch snaps as the sound of running feet on leaves carries back to you!

The stream is close now, and as you round a corner you catch sight of the person around some brush - and as you squeeze between the brush and the river's edge your tennis shoe slips on a wet rock and you feel yourself begin to fall!

Noah turns around to give you a little privacy as you wring your wet shirt dry, and holds out his jacket behind him for you.

"Yeah, anyone I touch. No animals though, just people," he explains as the two of you walk back to the Mansion. "It'll wear off in about four hours, but if I touch somebody else, it starts all over."

You can see Sam outside the Mansion as you cross the rapidly-greening lawn - she runs to you, pausing and looking confused until you and Noah both begin explaining at the same time.

"Oh," she says flatly. "I see." She doesn't say anything else.

You and Noah walk into the Mansion and up the stairs toward the girl's dorm. "Yeah, right down to the DNA," he says as you hand him back his now-wet jacket and ask him more through chattering teeth.

"But if I get blood drawn it turns back into 'mine' in a few seconds. Scars too," he agrees as you reach the top of the stairs. Beyond this point is off-limits to the boys, so you both stand awkwardly for a moment before the other you grins sheepishly and says "Well, I'd better go mess with Ricardo before he starts hassling me about this. See you later," he says, turning to walk back down the stairs.

Fifteen minutes and a hair dryer later you find yourself free again, with little to do on a Sunday afternoon besides your math homework from Friday. Even with all the excitement in your life you feel that Mr. Drake will not accept it late.

    Is homework due to monday?

Hmm, this might be a perfect opportunity to try out more finer uses of our power.
Have Aino make a small time-bubble around her and see if she can affect herself to speed up making the homework.

Alternatively, go to DANGER! Room for more practice.
I suggest we try to replicate what we did when fighting X-Cutioner. Get a rock or something similar, have the simulation make a thick concrete block, then throw the rock at it doing the accelerating thing we did with that lightning weapon.
Lets see how hard a simple rock sped up by tachylon-field can hit.

You may have been too busy mooning over Mr. Drake to pay much attention in class on Friday, but that doesn't seem to matter, because it all comes so easily for you!

Looking over at your three clocks, one of which still tells the correct time (it being a digital readout alarm clock while the other two are simple analog hand clocks) it's not even four in the afternoon yet - with at least an hour before dinner, you still have time for something else!

As you push your seat back and stretch, someone knocks on your door. "Aino?" Clarissa calls from the other side. "You home?"

A moment later the two of you are face-to-face, and Clarissa asks you conspiratorially "What were you and Noah doing in the woods?"

The danger room probably won't let students have handguns.... But we could practice with a rubber-band-gun. Theoretically non-lethal.

Also, see if we can get a color-changing spotlight next tie we're in the d-room. Set it to cycle in regular intervals, and set up a time bubble between it and the wall, but touching neither. Let's see if we can use our power as a lens to create a laser, or slow one down.

But those are just thought experiments for our next training session. For now:
    >>14560009
Woah! Please, let me explain. They let me use the room because... my power is kinda big, don't you think? I could accidentally turn someone into a geezer, or age a person to death if I wasn't paying attention. And I don't know how big I can make my bubbles. It's just to make sure I don't accidentally fast-forward the state of Rhode Island into the year five thousand, or something. I might be a walking natural disaster, and they want to make sure I know what not to do.
--(do we know what Sam's power is?)--
Listen, I'll talk to Professor X, see if he'll let you use the Danger Room whenever you want. It's not all fun and games, but it's also not fair that I get free access and you don't.

Forty-five minutes later (Dr. McCoy refused to budge on waiting one hour after dinner before using the Danger Room), you stand in your UMF suit on the metal floor, with Sam and Dr. McCoy watching from the observation window.

"You've developed a remarkable level of control over your power in the last few days, Aino," McCoy remarks over the speakers. "I can't help but attribute at least part of that to you having a place where you can exercise it without hesitation."

"I understand you wish to try and recreate your earlier actions with X-Cutioner's weapon," he says as a similar-looking object appears out of thin air in a cascade of pink and yellow rectangles of light. "I am also quite eager to see if you can replicate the event - it would go a long way toward understanding the full nature of your power. Rest assured, this device is not designed to cause you any discomfort simply by touching it."

As you pick up the device and marvel at how something so weighty can be magicked up out of nothing, you recognize its surface features - for all you can tell it *is* the weapon you took from the would-be killer!

With nothing to distract you, a moment of concentration is all that's needed to bring your power to the surface, and make the air - and the very fabric of space - slow to a crawl around you. With the meter-long staff clutched in one hand you turn sharply and let go of it...

If you can't stop the time, slow it down as much as possible, using all of your focus. This will probably leave you immobile (can't stop time and walk at the same time), which can be a good thing since this will definitely let Sam shine.

You furrow your brow and clench your fists, summoning up your power even through the cacophony of fire and screams, and seize hold of the timestream around you, feeling your psyche buckle under the weight of the world around you as you force a ripple through the tachyon field.

As the leaping flames are rendered motionless, you direct Sam toward the fire escape, and she flies up, grabbing the ladder and pulling it down! As you maintain your control over the tachyon field around her she floats into the burning room and emerges a moment later with a swaddled infant!

Sam and the baby float down to you, grinning broadly as the baby gurgles. You look around at the dirty brick walls -

    - and suddenly you and Sam are back in the brightly lit Danger Room, sans infant!

    "Good show," McCoy remarks.

we're a science nerd. So is he. Outline the experiments:

See if we can get a color-changing spotlight next tie we're in the d-room. Set it to cycle in regular intervals, and set up a time bubble between it and the wall, but touching neither. Let's see if we can use our power as a lens to create a laser, or slow one down.

Can we set up a bubble inside a bubble, and maintain them both? Say, we light a match, then freeze it inside a slow-bubble. Could we then set a fast-bubble around the slow bubble, and still maintain the slow bubble inside? Also: can we accelerate just _part_ of something and not the whole?

McCoy should be practically drooling over the thought of being able to experiment with time itself. Even if our experiment ideas are crude.

And see if we can isolate _how_ Sam flies. is it gravity control? Mass alteration? Energy projection? Lets examine our friend's powers more closely as well. She could be a hidden powerhouse and not know it.

I think I've figured out how our powers work. If time is a function of gravity and mass, as has been predicted be physicists, then the acceleration of objects thrown through the time bubble is probably due to a variant on the famous "gravity slingshot".

Sadly, on one condition however. It will be a spinoff. It doesn't really have anything to do with Aino's adventures but rather focuses on a new team made up from senior students handpicked by Xavier to work like the X-men.
There will be four characters for the main cast, but only two actors have been hired and there are merely concepts for their characters.
So if you know anyone who would be interested with some animation business, let me know!
The show will be aired on sup/tg/ channel called #MutieScum.

    >That Pastor From Last Week

Good to hear from you again, Padre! Unfortunately there won't be much in the way of religion in the next issue - we were all excited to do a big Easter special, but then Al heard about it and told us "There's no %&@# way I'm paying you idiots to draw all those little eggs!" We think you're missing the message of the season, Al!

    On to the next letter!

Phalanx Covenant. Seriously, when are you guys gonna bring that up again? It was important for all the character's growth!

Anyway, I'm just trying for a No Prize, but this has to do with the AoA time-stream thing, doesn't it? Legion echo or something, due to Aino's connection to time itself.

    Dear Jonesey.

I think you meant me with that letter and no, I haven't tought of that.
But I think that if somebody wants to, we can slip in a character like her in a guise of a mutant student.
Most of our higher ups are japanese businessmen who don't understand english yet alone care for the plot. It's only the merchandise that counts to them.
We still have ONE POSITION LEFT ON MAIN CAST so if you want to join in then by all means, do it!

M&M is basically a lighter version of d20. You get 15 points per level (iirc he's starting you at power level 9) to buy ranks of powers, skills, feats and super-attributes. It has the advantage of having very few mechanical variations; most of the powers work the same way, with most differences being stylistic effects.

In my opinion, at least, it's an easy system to pick up.

I have two questions, one of them rather silly.

1.) In this continuity, is it just the X-men/Brotherhood/mutants that exist, or will we acknowledge the existence of the other Marvel heroes? (I know, I know, but the potential for crossover sounds fun and hilarious for later issues, especially with folks like Deadpool.)

2.) Are we eventually going to witness and/or fight the Brotherhood and Magneto? And would the Hellfire Club be out of the question for a later appearance?
    >> Anonymous 04/11/11(Mon)20:40 No.14561847

    Good questions, both!

    >1.) In this continuity, is it just the X-men/Brotherhood/mutants that exist, or will we acknowledge the existence of the other Marvel heroes?

There are definitely other heroes besides the X-Men! The Fantastic Four are canon already. (Clarissa has a poster of Johnny Storm in her room, and Sam went off on a rant about them in Issue #2.) There are also some other super-groups in the public eye: the Avengers have an 800 number and advertise on billboards and bus-stop benches, and you might see more groups pop up in the news or on the street! Only time will tell!

    >2.) Are we eventually going to witness and/or fight the Brotherhood and Magneto? And would the Hellfire Club be out of the question for a later appearance?

Ball of Arms Man is a joke character someone on /tg/ created. He basically blew all his points on ranks of the Additional Limb power, which (here comes the joke) has absolutely no mechanical effect beyond the first additional pair.
