My original question is this: is there anyway that it can be played solo, or do you need Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness to set up it up?
    >> Anonymous 04/01/11(Fri)23:14 No.14444449

You need TMNT for the basic rules if you're using AtB v1. For v2 everything is self-contained.

Yes OP, or at least a Palladium book that has the BIO-E rules (like the core Heroes U or Rifts books).

TMNT is not a Rifts book. Rifts books won't help you.

The second edition of AtB says "A Complete Roleplaying Game" on it and has a different cover from what you posted.

    You can get TMNT+ATB1 here:

    Original Animal Characteristics
Description: Looks like a little porcupine, but with badger-like digging claws and a long, naked snout, out of which comes a long stickt tounge (up to 8 inches long). Like its only known relative, the Platypus, the Echidna is a egg-laying mammal. One of the creature's major talents is that of digging, a skill that allows it to burrow straight down and out of sight of predators.

Ok, got that rote shit out of the way.
    See that 65 BIO-E?
That's what you have to spend on mutating your spindly ass. Our PS and PE have gotten a little boost from our race.
You can spend that BIO-E on the built in options listed, and on increasing or decreasing our size.
Also a few animal psionics we could pick up.
But let's start with the basics, which of these racial pick-ups are you interested in, and would you like to explore changing size? Our mutant is still a fairly small fry at the moment.

Actually, looking closer, Wilderness Survival is already included seperate from the 6 selections, you have one more choice to work with, and 'Hunting' by itself is not a selection in AtB2. Wilderness Survival will cover basic survival and you might be interested in tracking or trapping if you want to catch things, or prehaps Identify Plant & Fruit, which in the mutation heavy world of After the Bomb can help to safely discover if a given item is actually safe to eat.

2 Military Skills:Camouflage and Intelligence training-he is not a fighter thats for sure...deep recon intel would probley be a good role for him

4 Physical Skills-Prowl, Running, Climbling, HtH (basic)-again..not built as a fighter...better for intel and recon work

In theory we'll be deciding that after skills are squared away. But I agree about size needing a bump up.

Still need the secondaries then. Perhaps combine with >>14449255 ?
    >> Anonymous 04/02/11(Sat)15:56 No.14451159
agree. combine with >>14449255. see what that leaves us with after we merge any duplicate skills
    >> PissedOffNotOP 04/02/11(Sat)16:05 No.14451219
    That will give us:

    Wilderness Survival

6 Secondaries: Mechanics: Basic, Radio: Basic, Canoe Building, First Aid, Rope Work.

    Size 5-20
    Spurs 20
    partial hand 10
    Digging 10
Telepathic Transmission "Mental Speak"-5(whats the range of this? local?)

leaves us 10...can we bump up his IQ any way?
    >> PissedOffNotOP 04/02/11(Sat)17:00 No.14451766
Looking through, it does occur to me that the pre-2nd listing do lack the optional disadvantages.

I'd be willing to allow theses if you so choose:
    -5 BIO-E for taking Nearsightedness.
-10 BIO-E for taking Vestigial Quills (hannless, but they rattle
continuously, and shed all over the place; -30% to Prowl, +20% to Tracking rolls to follow the character).
    -5 BIO-E for Diet: Insectivore.
    >> PissedOffNotOP 04/02/11(Sat)17:07 No.14451842
Going from 4 to 5 will just be 5 BIO-E, it is the difference between levels for cost. And at least 5 will bring the -2 penalty off our IQ. Unfortunately our spiny friend doesn't get any extra IQ boosts.

Mental speech has a 150ft range and can communicate to individuals or groups as long as they are in range. Speech only.
    >> Anonymous 04/02/11(Sat)17:10 No.14451879
not a bad idea..kinda reduces his recon capabilities some.
    >Vestigial Quills
not sure about this one...really cuts down on the one thing hes got going in his favor and thats stealth and sneakyness
    > Diet: Insectivore.
~chuckles~ ok..that could be good to go along with his cooking "Ahhh yes..we take this nice pupped up grub mash and slowly simmer it over and open flame before taking a handfull of fire ants and sautuing them up to a nice crispy brown! And in a dash of ground up butterfly wings and we have dinner!"

im ok with the diet..not to sure about the other 2
    >> PissedOffNotOP 04/02/11(Sat)17:15 No.14451933
Alright, that will bring us to:
    Size 4 to 5: 5

    partial hand: 10
    Digging: 10
    Telepathic Transmission "Mental Speak": 5
    Diet: Insects: -5
    45 BIO-E.

    >> PissedOffNotOP 04/02/11(Sat)17:18 No.14451967
It does occur to me that he can't speak into a radio with mental transmission. Still could operate for others, listen to communication, and click responses, but felt I should point that out.
    >> Anonymous 04/02/11(Sat)17:18 No.14451973
excellent! that means we can bump up to size 6 and get rid of all the penalties and only cost us 10 points. AND leave us about the size of a medium dog.

    Size 6-10
    Spurs 20
    partial hand 5
    Digging 10
    Telepathic Transmissiom 5
and take the Diet: Insectivore +5
    gives us 45 points..leaving 30.
hmm...that does give us plenty to play with

maybe bump up to full hand (another 5)
25 left for more modification-anyone else got any input or ideas?

    >Mental speech has a 150ft range and can communicate to individuals or groups as long as they are in range. Speech only.

Abilities that could be useful in recon:
    Danger Sense.
Detect Psionics (Ping for other psychi creatures)
Empathy, know what someone is feeling. Lie detection uses.
    Hypnotic Suggestion..
Invisible Haze, cost 20, but sends out a 'you can't see me' vibe.
Natural Mechanical Genius. If you were to stat Orks in this system, they'd have this as a racial. Make and improve machines in ways more knowledgable folk insist shouldn't work, tend to fall apart if you aren't nearby.
See Aura, tell relative type, level, health of beings.
Sense Nemesis, 20 pointer, but works like a more accurate danger sense, at time
    IDing folks directly.
