Moments of WHY in your games.

    >Player makes a character, a shy girl posing as a gay guy, hoping to find another gay guy because she finds normal men too scary
    >DM allows it and accommodates her in the game
    >Party encounters a butch lesbian soldier-type, and overtime the "gay" reverse trap falls for the lesbian, because according to her thinking, maybe women are more her thing
    >Turns out the butch lesbian is actually a guy pretending to be a woman, so he can meet other lesbians because he thinks normal women are too feminine
    >He opts to reciprocate reverse-traps feelings, because he feels maybe rather than women, guys are his thing
    >They end up falling for one another, and revealing their terrible secrets
    >Now they take turns playing their "roles", either a big manly man and his gay lover "boy", or a woman and her big lesbian lover "girl"
    >Whole time, DM is allowing all this and playing it out
    >WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY

Wow thats sad, I actually expected them to:
    >reveal terrible secrets
    >they both laugh about their shenanigans
    >live happily ever after as MAN and WOMAN

Goddamnit why can't you people just be normal and drop all the fucking drama.

    Sounds hilarious.

And reminds me of this funny comic where a guy attempts to rape a girl, but it turns out the girl was a dude and then the girl tries to rape the guy but the guy turns out to be a chick and they both just end up being kinda depressed about the entire ordeal.

Well this is in a group where explicit stuff is common, even if I try and avoid it.

And in a game where perhaps the most reasonable character, is a Blackgaurd who rapes and kills on a regular basis. I try and hold the rest of the party at arms length, but I usually have to clean up the mess they leave behind. And the DM is totally fine with it.

DM makes us all high elves, and we're all knights (we don't get to pick). We don't even get to pick our hair cuts. All of the characters are in competition with each other for some reason. I play chaotic neutral, because alignment seems to be the only thing I get to pick while playing this game.

We're all supposed to serve this king, and we're lead into this shared bedroom in the palace with beds all in a circle. Everyones fighting over beds. There is some pecking order shit going on, the beds are ranked in positions of power.

I want one of the beds closest to the door so I can GTFO if shit goes down. (I don't tell anyone that this is my reasoning)
Apparently this is the "lowest position". You'd think I could just take the bottom pecking order for my own reasons and no one would care.
Someone challenges me, we fight over the bed. Theres another bed on the right side of the door, we're fighting over the left.
I say I'll take the left to avoid the stupid fight over beds. DM won't let me, assigns it to someone else. So I fight this dude over the left side bed.
I win. I get the bed.

For their default status, DM's spouse gets the "highest position" bed, across the room directly in front of the door.
Spouse decides they don't want me to use the bed I fought and won, they like that I showed initiative and fought for what I wanted, so they don't let me use the bed I fought for and assigned me the bed next to them (2nd highest rank). I think this is bullshit because I went through this stupid ordeal only to have the DMs spouse come in and give it to the person who lost. They explain tell me I should be honored because I'm getting the second highest rank.

At the time I hadn't played in about 4 years. My friend invited me to his buddies campaign and obviously this was not how I remembered DND being. After that my friend who had originally invited me had said that he was going to make his own campaign, did that for a few years and now I'm doing my own.

Here's another quick one that gets to me a little bit.

    >DM wants to create custom boss
    > DM's guide via 4e recommends that you either add one standard attack, or make his standard do an extra attack
    >DM decides do do both, routinely knocking each of us unconscious while DM's NPC heals us all
    >This happens over and over, the PCs do nothing in the fight and the cheesey NPC just sits there and carries us

Chose from then on that if I ever DM'd I wouldn't make an NPC to help the party unless it was extremely story driven

I just had the most wondawful idea for a Shadowrun campaign. The party are the rejects. People who want desperately to be heroes but are in fact... the least competent people for the jobs. They're hired by politicoes and corp suits to bollocks up the jobs. They're paid not to succeed, but to try and fail, so that the bosses can say they're making some problem better, when instead they're making it worse.

It's like putting Ken DeLay in charge of the energy crisis in California oh so many years ago. Plus, that means you never have to pay them anything but the up front money."

You know what I want to play? A villager. The story is about a small village at the edge of the kingdom, which gets attacked by marauding barbarians/orcs/man eating ants.
The king doesn't care enough of the village to actually send troops, and prefer having it as a meat shield.

The players are just a bunch of farmers who had enough and decided to fuck the fucking fuckers. Kinda like the Magnificent Seven only without the outsiders.
It's just a few under-powered men leading a mob of other underpowered men in a fight for survival.

Tell them I want guys from the mean streets, not walking cyber-tanks, LOL Xisma Dryad HAKS, or Invisimages. Then they get a Fixer who pushes their rep on the streets after a few intro missions against gangers and the like, one who pushes their rep and lands them "the big jobs", but is really handing them to the big corp's SNAFU division, where corporate execs use them for feints and fuckups.

It could be fun. For your group.
But, personally, *I* would punch you.
For wasting my time making me play a loser. I'm enough of one IRL, my fantasy roleplay is I'M A HUGE HERO, all day, erry day.

Wait, I could even have fun in that campaign, don't get me wrong. But I'd only find it fun if I fucked the corps' plans by WINNING, "just as NOT planned".

I've very well understood what's your idea for that campaign. My group's perpetual GM just LOVES that kind of shit. In fact, he's the reason I hate losing so much. It's a reaction against his "hurr role play guize, you can not role play if you have any chance of success ever so fuck you and your character concepts and backgrounds and ties - you're the suicide-squad-playthings made of LOSE and that's IN EVERY GAME"

Losing is fun when you hate your character, or at least don't care for it. I craft my characters based on what I want to play in the setting, then seek ways to make it as efficient, good at its job, as I can. Answer? "HURR ROLL PLAYING BAD" - every fucking time.

"YES, I want to be able to AIM when I'm a SOLDIER, fukken moron. Is THAT roll-playing?"
"How that I can play a Wizard only if it's 12 Int max? Okay, let's play another game."
"Baawww you never want to be challenged" - Yes I do. I want challenge. I just hatehatehate to play against my own character sheet.
Against my character's personal flaws, of course! I don't want to play a Pulp Hero à la Perfecto McStrongjaw. I'm playing an Angel in D&D, it's FUN to play, say, being lied to constantly by the pathologically lying pixie bard, and believing it all because my PC doesn't understand the concept of lying.
Now to play a one-legged blind old whore who wants to become a Samurai, in L5R? Not gonna happen.

Assuming the odds weren't stacked against you so that you were sure to lose: Without the potential to fail, the game would not have been fun at all. Your achievements would be equally worthless if you were never in any danger of failing them.

Sure a nice and creative DM will find a way to keep your characters alive and relevant should they fall at the last hurdle or so but some times you really can't justify bringing anyone back without it feeling extremely cheap.

That's probably how I'd cover it. Except the humor would come less from LOLSILLYANTICS and be more subtle and dark. After all, it's Shadowrun.

My last group of players loved failures nearly as much as successes because I played them as entertainingly catastrophic. Not to say that they wouldn't rather succeed, but if they failed they'd have a good time listening to and dealing with the consequences.

Towards the end, we had an in-joke about failures like that. We called it the "wise horse" moment. A character was rolling to take a look around the stables around the entrance to a town and rolled a 1. So, rather than doing anything useful, he spent ten IC minutes staring soulfully into the eyes of a random horse, poetically musing about the hardships of a horse's life. You sort of had to be there, but the players thought it was a hoot.

Actually, that's exactly what I'd want to happen as the GM, because that's where the awesome comes in. They've been hired specifically to fail, then they fail at failing and succeed against all odds. When they get back the Johnson realizes that they're more competent than they look, but is vengeful and moves them up to more and more dangerous missions which they succeed at time and again (or fail and lol profit!) Until eventually a senior Johnson learns of the first's Omega squad actually winning the unwinnable situations and moves them to his own special assets.

    >>Then my fetishes, despite having rolled Asexual in the previous step...
    >>Then I get to roll the fetishes of my familiar...
    >>Despite the new girls talk about war, politics and intrigue when I was invited, the game seems to be all about wanking your character and their respective fetishes into each others face.
    >>Dicks, dicks everywhere.

8,000 xp of vet guards with =I= quality gear, sorry but argument invalid. We should have survived that, what with the crazy training and the laundry list of implants we had. How comes the civilians had better? I don't think so. It's not 40k if a whole planetary population (not hive-level, far from it, but still millions of people) has better-than-Inquisitorial gear. Okay, you could justify it (lolxenos), I know nothing is impossible, but that's not how 40k works (xenos giving away thousands of ton of tech to lowlife, civilian, humans? Not even the Tau do that).

tl;dr : Civilians don't have a survivability that's lightyears beyond a hardened Inquisitorial shock trooper.

The real problem was actually the plot itself. "hurr you're 1. trapped on world, or 2. killed, or 3. traitors", oh fuck you with a holypowerchainfist already.

Then what he did to my Sororita... "Hurr without Faith powers he'll role play durr" - to the guy who can take spending two sessions playing nothing but praying? Because the other players had skills in Tactics and I just had the right to shut up while they discussed those? And then I'm not bringing enough to the table? What should I do, BLAM half the party every session for DURRESY every time any one says anything that could possibly, remotely be interpreted as such? Including OOC.
Then I'm screamed at when I roll the dice after hours of inaction just to say how well I'm singing my prayers. "hurr stop roll playing" well let me do something... Can I try to discuss tactics too? No, not without training in it, which I can take in ... three ranks. Thanks, bastard. Can I go investigate shit solo? Nope, party doesn't split.
Survive combat? The environment alone kills me in a round where we arrive. And *I* don't have a laundry list of augmentics. Shit sucks huh? STOP ROLL PLAYING -wait guys, I'd like to start, like, playing at all, right? May I pray? "yeah start doing something ELSE for once"...

Our DM was pretty interesting. He lived on a houseboat and had severe ADHD and Anxiety. He'd take us out into the middle of the lake to play on the top deck and fish during summer. To manage his Anxiety and ADHD he would use beats to calm his nerves. Usually he played music, but when he was having it bad, he would use a and old Metronome he had since he was a child, he really, really is attached to it.

Now THAT GUY is a complete prick. Snobbish, crude, impulsive, apathetic and abusive but he's invited over anyway for some odd reason. DM has metronome playing. THAT GUY throws it overboard into the Marina. Why, I cannot say.

As the DM is going into a panic attack, I'm the only one able to Scuba dive. I spend the next two hours searching the bottom of a 30 foot deep marina while DM is taken to the hospital to be sedated. This is northern California, the water is fucking COLD.

The Metronome was found and THAT GUY has not been seen since.
