20 KB Apocalypse World Quest The MC !!4DbLS6HzSaK 02/26/11(Sat)15:16 No.14051043
Okay. Alright. Listen up, motherfucks. We're gonna sit ourselves down and play a game of Apocalypse World. Understand? Me, I'm your Master of Ceremonies, and you better put your ass in that chair and pay some god damn attention.

Apocalypse World is a game Rated R for Language, Sex, and Violence. If you're some kind of pussy what has a problem with that shit, kindly get the fuck out. It's a game about a world turned fucked up wasteland, and about the fucked up people in it. It's about dusty horizons, and desperation, and deprivation, and hunger. It's a mad broken place with an everpresent psychic maelstrom that howls, full of hate and terror, at the limits of perception. Close your eyes, open your brain. You can hear it.

The apocalypse happened about 50 years ago. The oldest people still around have childhood memories of it: cities burning, society in chaos then collapse, families set to panicked flight, the weird nights when the smoldering sky made midnight into a blood-colored half-day. Nobody knows what really happened or why, though. Maybe nobody ever knew.

Got it? You'd better, cause I don't like repeating myself.

The first thing you fucks gotta do is tell me what kind of character you want to be. Here are the choices, decide. The character that receives the most support gets it.

    THE ANGEL
Medic. If you want everybody to love you, or at least rely on you, play an angel. Warning: if things are going well, maybe nobody will rely on you. Make interesting relationships so you’ll stay relevant. Or sabotage things, I guess.

    THE BATTLEBABE
Good in battle, of course, but wicked social too. If you want to play somebody dangerous and provocative, play a battlebabe. Warning: you might find that you’re better at making trouble than getting out of it. If you want to play the baddest ass, play a gunlugger instead.

    THE BRAINER
Fucking wackjob. Your moves are powerful but strange. If you want everybody else to be at least a little bit afraid of you, a brainer is a good choice. Warning: you’ll be happy anyway, but you’ll be happiest if somebody wants to be close to you even though you’re a brainer. Angle for that if you can.

    THE CHOPPER
Lead a biker gang. You're powerful but lots of your power is external, in your gang. If you want weight to throw around, play a chopper — but if you want to be really in charge, play a hardholder instead. Warning: externalizing your power means drama. Expect drama.
    >> The MC !!4DbLS6HzSaK 02/26/11(Sat)15:19 No.14051071
    THE DRIVER
You've got wheels, meaning mobility, freedom, and places to go. If you can’t see the post-apocalypse without cars, you gotta be a driver. Warning: your car’s going to be awesome, but you’ll be at a pretty significant disadvantage when you aren’t behind the wheel, so be prepared for that.

    THE GUNLUGGER
The baddest ass. Your moves are simple, direct and violent. Crude, even. If you want to take no shit, play a gunlugger. Warning: like angels, if things are going well, you might be kicking your heels. Interesting relationships can keep you in the scene.

    THE HARDHOLDER
Landlord, warlord, governor of your own little stronghold. If you play a hardholder, the game’s going to have a serious and immobile home base. If you want to be the one who owns it, it better be you. Warning: don’t be a hardholder unless you want the burdens.

    THE HOCUS
Lead cult followers the way choppers have gangs. You're strange, social, public and compelling. If you want to sway mobs, play a hocus. Warning: things are going to come looking for you. Being a cult leader means having to deal with your fucking cult.

    THE HOCUS
Lead cult followers the way choppers have gangs. You're strange, social, public and compelling. If you want to sway mobs, play a hocus. Warning: things are going to come looking for you. Being a cult leader means having to deal with your fucking cult.

    THE OPERATOR
Freelancer, moonlighter, odd jobber, schemer and fixer. You’ve always got one thing cooking, one thing in prep, and one thing on the verge of going wrong. If you play an operator you’ll always have something to do; unlike angels and
gunluggers, you make your own business. Warning: your life is half getting ahead and half going under. Expect to swallow your share of water.

    THE SAVYHEAD
Techie. You have really cool abilities in the form of your workspace, and a couple of fun reality-bending moves. Play a savvyhead if you want to be powerful and useful, but maybe not a leader yourself. Warning: your workspace depends on resources, and lots of them, so make friends with everyone you can.

    THE SKINNER
Pure hot. You're entirely social and they have great, directly manipulative moves. Play a skinner if you want to be unignorable. Warning: skinners have the tools, but unlike hardholders, operators and hocuses, they don’t have a steady influx of motivation. You’ll have most fun if you can roll your own.

    Make a decision you guys.

    THE HARDHOLDER
There is no government, no society, in Apocalypse World. When hardholders ruled whole continents, when they waged war on the other side of the world instead of with the hold across the burn-flat, when their armies numbered in the hundreds of thousands and they had fucking boats to hold their fucking airplanes on, that was the golden age of legend. Now, anyone with a concrete compound and a gang of gunluggers can claim the title. What other authority is there?

Let's find out who you are. The first post ending in 0 or 5 decides.

    ..Consensus?
Like most of the /tg/ games do?

Having a "lottery" system is a sure way to make awful suggestions go through
for example: "You finally got and audience with the Emperor. Wat do?"
    >shit in your hand and throw in in his face
    >post ends in 5 (the chosen number)

Normally such things would not go through because other players would counter vote them. (though a DM must clearly define the troll posts and ignore them regardless if other players down-vote them or not)

But in this case I can understand. There are so many choices that it might have taken forever to get to consensus.

A very good DM could be able to integrate and use many suggestion for each update rather then taking one and rolling with it. He should choose the most 'sensible' ones or the ones that flow with the general attitude of the players.

    HARDHOLDER MOVES
    You get both:

LEADERSHIP: when your gang fights for you, roll+hard. On a 10+,
hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. Over the course of the fight, spend your
hold 1 for 1 to make your gang:
    - make a hard advance
    - stand strong against a hard advance
    - make an organized retreat
    - show mercy to their defeated enemies
    - fight and die to the last
On a miss, your gang turns on you or tried to hand you over to your enemy.

WEALTH: If your hold is secure and your rule unchallenged, at the
beginning of the session, roll+hard. On a 10+, you have surplus
at hand and available for the needs of the session. On a 7-9, you
have surplus, but chose 1 want. On a miss, or if your hold is

Can we even do this, since it gives us the same Want: Savagery effect twice? Does that mean our people are, like, extra double super savage?

If we can, I vote for the same options, except with Lucrative Raiding instead a Manufactory, and a Large gang of a Well-Disciplined one (Doubly savage and doubly idle doesn't seem to make sense, nor does doubly savage and well-disciplined).

With the bustling market this can be fixed easily buy trading for medicine and hiring few doctors (or people who have some medical knowledge)
And as for filthiness. Just force them to clean their homes and keep them self as tidy as possible. Do not shit where you eat. And throw away rubbish away from living areas.
•your gang is small instead of medium, only 10-20 violent
    people.
We can start a training, recruitment regime as soon as we start to fill the ranks.
Bu even as they stand, they are a small but "elite" force.

That would mean they are double savage.

We would basically be restricted to horrible raiding for recourses, slaving runs to satisfy the population of their decadence.
There would hardly be progress at all! D:

Though large population with so much disease is probably not a good idea.

A big market means that we are going to be a social center of the "new world". We would be in middle of all news, have easier time getting hands on desperately needed resources (medicine), and have a better chance at hiring/recruiting specialists.

Maybe if we were The Diplomat or The Merchant, but we're not. We're The Colonel.

Doesn't mean we can't have diplomatic advisors.
Also, our stats are mostly in favor for either ruthless approach or diplomatic approach.

Besides, having a powerful, disciplined army would mean that our place is safe and people like safe, so we would get a flow of people willing to settle here.

A savage society would repel everyone else, and if we go too far other "towns" might forget their differences and band against us.

To clarify, yes you can have double savagery, or any other aspect.

Let's get down to it guys, what kind of stronghold do we want here? Something angry and bloodthirsty and fucked up? Do we want hardened killers, disciplined para-military? Do we want progression, and balance, and creation? Is your hold together out of necessity or desire or fear?

Let's start narrowing this shit down, and get some unified responses.

    These two.

(Don't see why they would be mutually exclusive.)
If we are going to to balance between the two, I say go more para-military and a bit of progression.

At early on, we would need a significant defence before creating and progressing.

    BARTER
Your holding provides for your day-to-day living, so while you’re
there governing it there’s no need for you to concern yourself
    with that.

When you give gifts, here’s what might count as a gift worth
1-barter: a month’s hospitality, including a place to live and meals in
common with others; a night in high luxury & company; any weapon,
gear or fashion not valuable or hi-tech; repair of a piece of hi-tech
gear by your fave savvyhead; a week’s bestowal of the protective
companionship of one of your battlebabes or gunluggers; a month’s
    maintenance and repairs for a hi-performance vehicle well-used; a
    half-hour’s worth of your undivided attention, in private audience;
or, of course, oddments worth 1-barter.

In times of abundance, you holding’s surplus is yours to spend
personally as you see fit. (Suppose that your citizen’s lives
are the more abundant too, in proportion.) You can see what
1-barter is worth, from the above. For better stuff, be prepared
to make unique arrangements, probably by treating with
    another hardholder nearby.

Machete is easy to buy or construct.

First order of business would be to get a list of notable characters in our employ (techies, warriors, merchants, medics, etc...)

    Wants: hungry, idle, disease.

Hungry: when your people are in want, they don’t have enough
to eat. Getting food becomes their foremost concern.

Idle: when your people are in want, they don’t have anything
useful to do with their time. They occupy themselves with

Disease: when your people are in want, their collective health

    THE HARDHOLDER

    NAME/LOOKS
    Colonel Vega, or “The Colonel”
Male, vintage wear, strong face, commanding eyes, strong body

    STATS
    COOL+1 Hard+2 Hot+1 SHARP+1 Weird-2

    The stats are:
COOL, meaning cool under fire, ration, clearthinking, calm, calculating, unfazed.
HARD, meaning hard-hearted, violent, aggressive, strong-willed, mean, physically and emotionally strong.
HOT, meaning fucking hot, attractive, subtle, gracious, sexy, beautiful, inspiring, exciting.
SHARP, meaning sharp-witted, clever, alert, smart, perceptive, educated, skilled, trained.
WEIRD, meaning a weirdo, psychic, genius, uncanny, lucky, strange, prophetic, touched.

    HARDHOLDER MOVES
    You get both:
LEADERSHIP: when your gang fights for you, roll+hard. On a 10+,
hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. Over the course of the fight, spend your
hold 1 for 1 to make your gang:
    •make a hard advance
•stand strong against a hard advance
    •make an organized retreat
•show mercy to their defeated enemies
•fight and die to the last
On a miss, your gang turns on you or tried to hand you over to your enemy.

WEALTH: If your hold is secure and your rule unchallenged, at the
beginning of the session, roll+hard. On a 10+, you have surplus
at hand and available for the needs of the session. On a 7-9, you
have surplus, but chose 1 want. On a miss, or if your hold is
compromised or your rule contested, your hold is in want. The
precise values of your surplus and want depends on your holding,
    as follows.

Don't expect that our "nobility" is going to be righteous. As soon as someone gets position to power, they become arseholes.

Lets wait till we get more people, expand the handhold to such extent that direct rule becomes hard or get a hold of another handholds.

Now. In the UK knights are ‘given a peerage’ (made a peer of the realm/country) from the population for there skill, not necessarily in battle, but in modern times, other things like business. Sir Alan Sugar is a Jewish man who owns a company which employs many Britain’s.
In short: Lords can have there own army and suggest changes government legislation (they can’t make any), Duchies have the land and are directly related to the royal family who owns 70% of the land. That’s all they are in the end, land owners.

I am not saying which one I think is best.

Ok so everyone’s starving... humm. We can't do cattle as they require lots of grazing plants and waste energy moving around and whatever...
Maybe we can barter for some seeds and set up farms all around our holding. We can promote some merchants to organize work groups and pay somone to stop the birds eating the seeds. When we get our harvest we can use it to get the people organised.

Maybe we can get a few horses to plow the ground and later get breeders to breed our army GENETICALLY SUPERIOR STEEDS!!! Death Corps of Kreig here we come!

Now that thats out the way... Our elite troops need an elite gun. I propose a standard rifle be produced by the factory. A shortened 18 inch version of the M1 Garand.

You decree that the defenders of the town should be properly protected and that everyone must contribute. The people don’t like this, but the don’t have much choice. You manage to get your hands on much of the metal in the territory, there is even a surplus, the factory uses horse leather to construct the ‘flak jackts’. But smelting steel is costly. You consume all the fuel in the town. The cold nights make your people restless. Some demand better treatment openly in the square. Your elites do nothing about this, Your charm stops full scale rioting… for now.

    >>14053791
You haven’t the metal nor the fuel to build the rifles. You also need schematics which have to be bartered for. A merchant by the name of Sadiq says he can get ahold of a working copy, but your troops need to help him steal it from another local hardholder by the name of Lars. He also says he can get you all kinds of seeds if you help him to get what he wants.

There are 2 major religions in your area of the wasteland. One is called Haroism and it preaches that the apocalypse is but a new beginning and that we need to let go and return to the sky. Most of its followers are unhinged and like to punish others for not believing. The other religion is called Murq'doc and it preaches that a psychic energy dwells in the blood of others. They roam around the country side drinking the blood of live unfortunate travelers... Not really church material.

Also, there have been reports of strange unearthly noises coming from the hills at night.

    >>As for insulting the entire board. This isnt a democracy. You can't vote me out. If i really wanted to insult them i'd say somthing ellse. But they DO have short attention spans.

You're right, this isn't even remotely related to a democratic process, but guess what? We can insult you as much as we like too.

Protip - I'm not american either and none of the things you've been called out on have anything to do with american vs. british english. They do however have to do with you spelling words completely incorrectly regardless of where you come from.

    Your logic is thus:
Spelling mistakes = not allowed to observe lack of attention = arrogance.

Now, do you see the arrogance in that thought process? I’m allowed to make a few spelling mistakes. When you say barley illiterate…

What I was getting at was the stupidity of waiting and the apparent lack of interest in something I took my own time to bring to you. Oh yes, tell me it was shit, tell me waiting is much better, that makes sense… How could it be anything else other than lack of attention.

If you actually read my post, you'll note that I am not addressing any of the posts you made in order to try to continue the thread. Hell, I even said I thought this was a good thing.

What I was addressing was the piece of text I highlighted, claiming, among other things, that /tg/ has bad taste in books. Obviously you don't know what /tg/ does or doesn't read, but the main point is that this is highly ironic coming from someone with a grasp of the english language that is shaky at best.

This lack of reading comprehension, and interchangeable use of 'literate' and 'illiterate' (since apparently they mean the same thing to you), doesn't exactly make me inclined to take back what I said about you being barely literate.

Oh yes we like good spelling, the teacher told us how to do it and we use it to make sure we're part of the 'good club'. Your insecurities are showing.

Fun fact: Do you know what a computer is? No you don’t, because a computer is a term used to describe a type of accountant during the 1800. It was later stolen and applied to machines.
Do you know what a gun is? Nope, its actually called a gone as in; bye, bye. overuse has led to people calling it by its modern name.
    http://www.musketeer.ch/blackpowder/handgonne.html

Do you know what a person is? Wrong again. According to blacks law dictionary a person is:
    • A natural-person is a human being, capable of attracting rights and duties.
    • An artificial person aka ‘juristic’, ‘legal’, ‘fictitious’ is, e.g., a corporation to which the law attributes personality.
Wait… what’s that second bit I hear you say? That’s right, you arnt a person, you HAVE a person. I use the law dictionary for all my definitions of words because the oldest reliable law dictionary is *far* older than the oldest reliable English dictionary… let alone some of those American internet travesties.

    Deal with it.
