    62 KB Clockwork Man Quest Narrator !!YA/0QAmz2n3 02/23/11(Wed)21:29 No.14017473
You are a clockwork man, a twelve foot tall warmachine of steel and steam. To be accurate, you are an experimental prototype, the next stage in clockwork death.

3 hours 16 minutes 16 seconds ago you were taken from the production facilities and loaded into a cargo dirigible. 1 hour 48 minutes 37 seconds ago you were unloaded in a large forest clearing with a small group of less advanced clockwork men, an escourt of infantry and a low ranking lord. You started walking north; clockwork men on a small path and men under the trees. 24 minutes 16 seconds ago you left the cover of the forest and started walking along a large paved road. 24 seconds ago a large black object fell from the sky. 23 seconds ago it burst open. Soldiers started screaming and running, while the lord's horse started galloping away. Your vision blurred slightly. 15 seconds ago soldiers started collapsing. 10 seconds ago all the soldiers were down. 5 seconds ago they stopped twitching.

You are an advanced model and as such you are well equipped for war. You have:

Great strength- You are easily as strong as 20 men.

Mianan Inducer- You can generate powerful bolts of electricity over short ranges.

Steamgun: You can fire large armour piercing bullets over medium ranges.

Engine: Your clockwork is kept wound by a small steam engine. It is designed to be efficient and conserve water but will run out over time. You currently have three days of fuel and three days of water left.

    What do you do?

The soldiers are not our allies. We need to formulate a response to the inevitable attack.
Firstly, what do we have in our immediate surroundings?
How tall is the building? Are there any large objects hanging overhead? Are there any large objects within reach? Is there any cover? How many entrances are there to the building?

We can make use of the building to keep the men from getting a good shot at us or just any materials available to kill them outright. Collapse something ontop of them, swing at them with a large metal beam, etc.
Failing anything like that just shoot them. Try and gain at least some cover for our legs and vital mechanical parts. Try and corral our fellow clockwork men behind some cover if we have time. We want to try and curb losses.
Use the "TASER" on the clockwork spiders when given the chance. Melt their weapons/cannons.

The room itself contains larges crates of unknown contents, several open crates containing large shells, large sheets of thick steel and large metal tubes. However, with your currently trapped legs you can only reach the door control mechanism and a single crate of munitions.

    >How tall is the building?
    Roughly 20 feet tall.

    >Are there any large objects hanging overhead?
There is a crane systems with several large hooks and magnetic grapples.

    >Are there any large objects within reach?
    One crate of munitions.

    >Is there any cover?
Crates can provide some cover, but you are very large.

    >How many entrances are there to the building?
The front entrance is the only one large enough to allow passage for men of your stature. There is a door you could just about fit though into the factory proper, and human sized door.

    >Stand, and take inventory of the state of all weapon systems and your Remaining clockwork men.
You are standing. You are fully operational, with minor scratches on your framwork. The men have not fared so well. Of the four you started with, one has only partial movement of one arm, two have damage to core gear systems and one has damage to one leg. Thankfully, clockwork men are capable of some level of self repair. Given time and resources they could be fully functional again. All men are almost wound and charged down. They have less than an hour left. You can rewind them.

    >If needed restock you Arm gun with munitions from the nearby crates,
    You restock your gun.

    >inspect the spider tanks
One of the tanks appears to been seriously melted. The other tank has several bullet holes.

    >If there are any visible upgrades take them and integrate the with your system.

While they do not understand Phalanx, they do understand Guard.

You wind up your men, which takes roughly an hour each. Using some spare part from the factory they are able to repair themselves to passable condition. Not quite factory standard, but combat capable.

You then set about welding the machine gun to your shoulder, as well as connecting ammo feeds. The process take 3 hours 47 minutes. By the time you've finished it all, it's starting to get dark.

You Clockwork men following, you head towards the Defence tower. As soon as you are within range, the turret swivels to face you. There is a thundering boom and the road next to you explodes.

You head toward the tower, ducking behind houses when possible. More than one house is badly damaged by the tower's shells, but you make it to the base of the tower unharmed. Your fellow men are not so lucky. One of the men takes a direct hit from a shell, tearing it in half.

At the base of the tower, you zap the building, but it is heavily armored and you cause barely any damage. You do manage to incapacitate a machine gun mounted on the side. The other Men continue to electrify the building to little effect.

You are not the best climber and the tower is very smooth. Using electromagnetism from your inducer and great strength you are able to make some headway. Eventually, you reach a small platform next to a viewing area at the top of the tower. Rather than armor, there are only large windows.

Your sight is not made for long distances. You can see large badly defined stretches of land, with a long black stripe running through it. In the sky there are a number of blobs moving around a large black rectangle.

I wonder, what was the purpose of creating a self-aware clockwork man? If it was to control other automatons then why can't we speak or otherwise interface with other units? Is it to better understand orders? Also, I hope you guys realize that five clockwork men against two clockwork spiders and a unit of musketeers is a pretty even match, so the fact that we slaughtered them is very impressive.

I suggest we avoid rivers for the time being, given that our internal steam engine could be put out. OP, what kind of range can we expect from the machine gun? It's a new weapon so obviously we wouldn't know statistics right off the bat, but are we capable of firing a few test shots to calibrate our aim?
