    >mfw rough fist

So, we've got at least 6 missile/Flak batteries covering the entire route into the mission, several smaller trucks spread across the area, 2 which have AA on them for sure, others that may be carrying MANPAD carrying troops.

Ontop of that we got an unknown number of enemy fighters which i hope is nothing stronger than MiG-21s and if sukhoi gives us a break, MiG-19s. If we get through all of that, we then gotta deal with whatever remains of the luckyguns with whatever remains of our flight.

We have a plan though, lucky guns go first because they're the only ones capable of SEAD strikes, we follow them through and circle at the village and wait for the MiGs. After they've hit the radar we escort them back through the gap, and once their just about to enter it we start blowing the out of the sky, meaning those who survive the first volley must either continue on a straight path, or take a risk and fly into the enemy danger zones.

I wouldn't say 'finished' though it's close. sukhoi is still ironing out a lot of things, mostly upgrades and such. Though she was talking about overhauling the movement/phase system for the next set of ops...

Overall, it's working really well. A fair few casualties, lots of new aircraft, customisation options resulting in a Scooter bomb-truck (more bombs than the Phantom can carry, aw hell yeah) and some nice RPing all around.

    I cannot -_- anymore.

1- The Guns are required for sanitising the airspace from air defence. They have Thuds and Rhinos, the two fighters that created the entire concept of Wild Weasel and SEAD.

2- The Kattes are CAP only, lots of IR missiles plus a pair of Sparrow-ski's on the Mirage. No air-to-mud. They can try cannon running, but that's what Creek tried in Red Hawk... and that turned out soooooo well.

3- Kill bonuses still given for splashing enemy fighters, and chances are any bandits would try to tangle with the CAP just to get them out of position. So in the interest of not dying, any MiG's that are spotted are gonna be splashed hard and fast.

Depending on whats going on we might be "sluggish" to respond to any airborne threats to lucky guns.

    Right now Swarts objective is:
    1. Make sure the Radar is nicked.

Griffin stumples into a flak trap/SAM nest flying over a previously safe area. TPK
Musketeers begin their run on the convoy, turns out they all have ZPU-6-23's onboard, and fill the sky with tracer fire. TPK
Aquilla lights up an SA-6 battery, but while prosecuting run into an S-300 array. TPK
And the Kattes have an uneventful mission. Until they become a victim of a double-blind switch and Lucky Gun turns out to have a contract on them too. Both sides TPK when Metal Pipes show up shortly there after

The guy on the left opened the campaign by dumping a fuck-ton of crater-maker bombs on a rebel runway
The guy on the right got cheap repairs by sexing up a Russian MG chick
The guy up top bought a Flanker from the get go. Nuff said.
And the guy on the bottom? WARCRIMES, personified.

Together, they are the Black Aces. They wreck shit.

To give an example, one time one of them dropped a bomb and missed.

The bomb was a 2000lb FAE
The 'miss' put it ontop of a cargo ship full of explosives
    The location? Mogadishu Harbour.

To be absolutely fair, Firestorm is more of a rigorous playtest. There's a lot of stuff that still needs to go into a final ruleset, but there's nothing like actual play to work the kinks out.

So far it's proven fabulously lethal, with something like a 10% casualty rate on the first mission alone.
    >> girder 02/26/11(Sat)10:17 No.14048528
    Closer to 25%, actually.

Two of the four flights lost a pilot in their first mission. Aquila flight lost an NPC co-pilot and tail-gunner.

You know, an interesting theme to explore in an air combat campaign would be something like Macross Plus... have the PCs be contracted as test pilots for two different corporations doing a flyoff of two new next generation aircraft prototypes...

    and then pic related appears.

Or the Corporations/Government wants to test some new AI controlled aircraft against "unpredictable, highly skilled opponents" and its soon Mercs versus Robo-Planes.

I think now with specializations and skill progression as well as the player's getting a grasp of the rules we should see a lower mortality rate.
