Okay /tg/, for our new game of Deathwatch my DM has alerted me and only me that an Alpha Legion infiltrator is amongst our ranks, it's my secret mission to kill him with as little collateral as possible.
Apart from me, who's a scout, there is:

    A Consecrators Techmarine (roger)
A Storm Wardens Apothecary (Grigori Haus)
    A Storm Wardens Librarian
    A Flesh Tearer Assault Marine
    Another Flesh Tearer Assualt Marine

I suspect the first of the flesh tearers and possibly the Librarian. What's the best way I should go about procuring information to confirm these suspicions, and how am I going to dispatch them when I do find out?

Secretly check the librarium for the combat records of your team, it may be difficult to explain why you don't ask your librarian to help you do this if you get caught.

Secondly, get an Apothecary on board and get him to give mandatory gene seed inspections to make sure everything is fine, and whilst he's at it, secretly check to see which one appears not to belong. Of course if the infiltrator realises that Gene Seed inspections are occuring, then you might be in for some trouble.

What chapter are you? Some chapters have ways and means of giving their Deathwatch seconded brethen back-up in these matters.
There's a canon character in the back of Rites of Battle who was sent by the Dark Angels to the deathwatch to do exactly what I've just described for one of their battle brothers who had his suspicions about a Chaplain.

Could you give a quick brief of the ingame context for this? Were you approached by your watchcaptain or some other higher ranked dude to do this, find some evidence yourself or what? Any other information about the characters that could already give some pointers? like the marines from the same chapter never having heard of the other before or something?
    >> Anonymous 02/17/11(Thu)19:30 No.13939128
How the hell did your character find out about an alpha legion infiltration plot?
    >> Anonymous 02/17/11(Thu)19:31 No.13939134
Just keep an eye out for anyone deviating from the group or anyone who seems to be doing their own sub-objectives/keeping artifacts found. Collect evidence like it is an episode of Law and Order: Space Marine, then get everyone to turn on him.

But then if I was the infiltrator I would paint the Hydra on someone's armor just to remove suspicion.

My character's a custom chapter actually. He's also the only one on the team, apart from the Consecrator, who doesn't have a team mate from the same chapter.
Due to his chapter's... particular disposition I'd say he's a little wary of relying on the others, but still. One good thing is he's built for stealth.

But, in all seriousness, any infiltrator with an ounce of sense will avoid Flesh Tearers or Librarians as disguises. The latter as distrusted maniacs and the latter because they're closely watched for taint, despite their archive access. Techmarine or Apothecary are more likely, though Librarian is still quite possible.

In a typical Alpha Legion scheme, there's one battle brother on the vox.

In an exceptional Alpha Legion scheme, they have the enemy do the vox-warning for them.

In a diasterous Alpha Legion scheme, they send in a warband led by a Khornate maniac and trust his scheming underling to keep them in line and retrieve the artifact through the usage of cats-paws.

Guess which one this won't be. And congratulate your GM on being true to fluff.

Now chances are the DM just wanted to play paranoia, and he told everyone this.

In this case, the only way to survive is to strike first. Therefore, wait for your briefing. Once the briefing is over, the first person to mention the first and last mission objectives exclusively in the same sentence is the traitor. Kill the person directly to his left using faulty equipment and bad information.

After he is dead, remove his power armor, weapons and face and assume his identity. While posing as him, summaraily exicute the traitor and the person standing directly to his right.

Then turn to any survivors and reveal that you are actually a daemon who orchestrated the entire incident.

Make your way to the reclusium and strike down any who follow you with what ever weapon is stored in it's center. Be sure to decapitate the Apothecary. (If you are the apothecary via assumed identity, fake it.)

With the remaining kill team dead, you are free to engage in disabling the gellar field and allowing for your untold warp brethren to enter the ship as it makes its way to Macragge. Upon arrival you shall lay waste to the planet before assuming the role of Roboute Guiliame, spiritual liege of the Ultrasmurfs and God Emperor of Ultramar.

With total control of Ultramar, you can then begin on your true plan, opening a chain of pizza shops.

If I were you, I would attempt to break up the party into small groups, then kill them off one by one while they're unawares.

You'll be able to get a free point-blank head-shot or full-auto burst on someone, depending on your character's load-out. If there's one other person, you can proceed to kill them (if you're lucky). Make sure you can keep them from talking through their vox casters for help from the other party members (unless you want to lead them to ANOTHER trap, like said promethium refinery, where there's a giant car-sized tank of promethium suspended from the ceiling, waiting to drop when someone triggers a tripwire upon entering the room, then from which you can load your EXPLOSIVE bolt shells into, killing you all and preserving peace for the Imperium for another day).

    There's an idea.
If you're armed with a weapon of Pen10 at least (meltagun available to you?), and get your GM to buff all the plasma and melta weapons by 1d10 (as they should be). Then you can kill one person out of two unawares (so no Dodge or vox call). If you can get a lascannon and do the same, do so. It'll be easier to kill the next person then.
If you don't have access to those, then just use a melta-bomb slapped on their backpack, or a full-auto burst at point-blank from behind (where RoB has confirmed that the AP is weaker on power armor). Then proceed to do your best to silence the next person and kill them.
Run back to the other team, screaming bloody murder about enemies.
Get apothecary to take gene-seed back with you quickly, and other two to carry-on with mission. Proceed to shoot apothecary when he's collecting the seed.
Go back and finish the other two.
If you can complete a TPK-then-suicide, regardless of the plan, I'll be massively impressed. A Scout taking on five full-armored marines would be mighty awesome.

If you're playing over IRC, and your GM's not a dick for letting you de-rail the game for your own agenda, then it's not hard, as when the party splits up, everyone will be in separate rooms.

Then the GM can explicitly tell the players you ganked not to spread the tips to the other players.

Granted, you could do that (get GM to tell dead players not to squeal) on the normal tabletop, but it's harder since everyone's in the same place: the gaming table.

Alternatively, OP could get a lascannon for a plan.
OP could get a lascannon, go "scout" ahead of the party. Only then, OP would loop back around the party proper, brace his lascannon (since I'm not sure if he gets use of Bulging Biceps without his power armor), then kill at least one person from behind at "short" range with the lascannon (which is 150m I think) from cover.
If the party is in a wide open area with no cover to run to, all the better to kill them with in successive turns with the lascannon.

Let's do this, motherfuckers. Based on the Make-A-Chapter tables...

Characteristic Modifiers? Shit. Inclined to say a 91-00 and pull up something like +5 Int +5 Fel, but you could make a case for Will or Per too.

Solo Mode Abilities? 31-45, for Decieve and Concealment.

Squad Mode Attack Pattern? Tactical Finesse seems like the best fit with the Alpha Legion's emphasis on flowing, versatile combat practices.

Defensive Stances? Swift Advance for the same reasons. Alpha Legion wars are wars of MOVEMENT.

Specialty Restrictions...98-00. "Something truly unusual". It's a Chaos Legion. It has no real Companies left. There are no Scouts. There are only ten thousand warbands, each one the head of a many-fanged beast.

Special Equipment? As an old Traitor Legion, you could make a case for Rare Weaponry. Leftover stuff from the Heresy, plus all kinds of terrible daemon-weapons.

Honour Thy Wargear seems like the best fit for Alpha Legion, considering their emphasis on stealth and tactical supremacy.

    ta-da?

For armour tables, switch Mk 5 and 7 for starters. The Legion as I see it would keep their old armour as much as they can, which would be mostly Heresy era, as they're less "loot steal destroy", and keep hidden bases with (presumably) repair facilities.

As for characteristics, they'd have high Int, Ag, and maybe Fel? Probably a good understanding of technology and tactics too. Paranoid as a trait?

Wait, does the Infiltrator know they're an Infiltrator? I don't see how it'd work if, hypothetically, OP was the infiltrator but didn't know it.

Are you kidding me, brother OP?

It's ALWAYS the witch. Burn him.

fluffwise I'd say that a libby would be unlikely since they would draw a lot of attention (and depending on how he portrays the AL it would be kinda obvious when he uses his powers)
not sure if they had tech marines pre-heresy, if not hes out, if so its possible but I'd still think unlikely (nothing to back up that claim tho)
flesh tearers are nuts, if one is not acting nuts in combat SHOOT HIM IN THE FUCKING HEAD HES THE TRAITOR
if both are sutibaly crazy then keep a VERY close eye on the apocathary

in fact posing as an apocathary would be the most use to the AL as they could gain access to new gene seed to replenish their ranks so grab the most trustworthy mate you can and jump him at the very first sign of trouble.

also just look out for ppl who are a little too eager to call in an exterminutus etc

Yep, but not just for lolgeneseed. They're trusted figures who won't be watched for warp taint. Especially as the infiltrator may well be a Sorcerer himself.

Techmarines are preheresy, and Legionaries would have decent understanding of how to fix things
    >> Anonymous 02/18/11(Fri)10:00 No.13946315
have you considered the one who tipped you off if the infiltrator and he wants to sow confusion and whatnot among you to keep all eyes of him?

    >grab a buddy
Despite there being logically a 1/5 chance of grabbing the infiltrator (Assuming it isn't the guy who told you, you, or everyone) there is in fact a 1/1 chance of you being buddies with the infiltrator looking for the infiltrator
