Found saw the problem from three sides.

First was psicomm. She had learned a while ago how to read psicomm, how to enter and use it without a physical link. She saw the surface of the desert planet, the fortifications and the soldiers waiting the milling xeno swarms held off by the flailing artillery and blinding sandstorms. The chatter and data slipped through her mind as easily as thoughts or emotions, from deployment vectors to ammo logistics.

Second, she saw from her Family, a likewise milling group of xenos, crammed into ODF drop-pods waiting deployment. They were nervous in this alien boarding craft, but she kept a tight rein on those nerves, and plied them with calm and expectation. They were hungry, so hungry. Most of the larger and more advanced units had already been reverted into protomass, with most of the fleet in hibernation around the still frozen queen. The Family was starving, and xenos had never minded what they ate, even there own.

In her third view she floated right below the cloud layer, looking down at the battlefield. She was of course not really there, it was just a projection of her mind down on the field. But it provided a clear bird’s eye view of the feeding ground, and allowed easier directions to her Family. She watched the smile of Lost’s face as she looked up into the sky and took off in those ridiculous rocket boots of hers, heard Aberham’s voice in the psicomm chatter, and felt the minds of the xeno swarm, those not yet inducted into the Family.

In her room she sat on the floor, her legs crossed. Her eyes were open, the right one a bright blue, the left a bright red. The left eye’s iris started to glow with a crimson light, the white of the eye of fading into a pitch black.

Walker cycled through the various battles that were occurring simultaneously. There. Members of Bravo were on the ground at the initial botched drop, fighting against a horde of swarming bugs.

He cycled through the images once more, watching the other forces of the assault. They were making headway, although there were certain groups in need of help. Bravo Force was large enough, and after all, their typical operations rarely exceeded platoon strength. They could handle multiple theaters of operation.

If you're heading there on foot, I can't see any reason why we would need a scan for it. There are better things to use the scans on.

For example, the shrouded areas between us and the hive entrance and around it. We'll be making some offensive efforts when this resumes, so will need to know more about that area.

It had been so long since she dined on real flesh of any kinda, instead of the gray greasy gel that they had been provided on the giant metal ship so unlike the hive pods. The hunger turned into something else as her body quickly broke it down into the vital protomass, turning into an expectation, pregnant with new ideas.

It wasn’t a smooth transition, but a violet metamorphosis as carapace cracked open and engorged flesh writhed with protomass leaping out and forming new muscle, shell, and nerves. The consciousness Found rode on expanded and strengthened to fill the new demands of the expanded body, over 5 times larger then the original. She stroked its mind as it changed. It wasn’t afraid, it knew this was as natural as breathing, but Found couldn’t help but feeling pride in the xeno.

For someone talking about being killed she sounds really happy. Maybe it's the fighting.

Something was wrong. The Corporal's flux had been rerouted, and the signal was too complex to easily trace. Whoever was doing this was good-possibly even better than Foolscap.

That was not acceptable. He couldn't allow someone to get away with stealing a superior officer's self out from under his nose. Foolscap withdrew all attention from the battlefield, focusing in on the signal like a laser. He would follow it regardless of the cost. The hearing on his left side went out as something warm and wet trickled down his neck.

He would sooner tear reality asunder than let this happen.

There were Tactical Advisors and then there were Technical Admins. A majority of those who spoke directly to ground units, who ran active scans and analysis were of the former group. They got most of the credit of TAs as a whole. But the Admins job was just as vital to the successful use of psicomm during combat. Not only did they help coordinated the support of the commanding officer, but also readied slave programs for deployment, filtered comm chatter, and a variety of the various other necessary things that commanders and soldiers alike never spared a thought to.

One of the most important jobs an Admin could do was the ident transfer from a flatlined clone body onto a holding buffer on the psicomm network. It was a fairly easy job, if requiring a little celerity, and as both a Watch Officer and as a TA himself, he had watched and executed the procedure countless times. Yet Corporal Follippo had somehow managed to bungle the whole procedure.

“I didn’t do anything sir,” whined the tiny brunette, “I ran the upload and pulled the ident cleanly, 100% memory in the buffer and the flux completely in sync with it, and once it hit the net, a program tagged it. I thought it was just one of the Inquisitorial programs earmarking it because it was p-chipped, but a second later the memory was gone, and the flux with it. All I managed to catch was a transfer request before the program just… vanished…”

Master Sergeant Johannesburg stared down at the petite woman with a highly skeptical expression before he pushed her out of the way and check the screen. His TACIM nodes flared as he connected with the local monitor and played back the programming buffer. Ignoring the pleading words from the corporal, he caught the sight of the program and then it just… winked out. Eye widening, he played back the buffer even further, but the program had vanished. Either there was some serious glitches or… Johannesburg swore and activated quarantine around the console’s node. It was probably too late.

Minutes later, as he slipped through the lightening speed of psicomm, he realized it was. There had been a program, its absence in transfer records showed didn’t delete all the signs of its passing. It had been hiding… somewhere, it still wasn’t clear where, and had spoofed the ident programs into thinking it was in a transcription procedure. It has likewise spoofed array data which had caused it to be allowed to be transmitted off-site. The ident packet, holding the flux and the live memories… had just been sent to god knows where.

The Master Sergeant swore and kicked a chair across the room, the wheeled seat loudly crashing into the wall. He had just had a virus compromise psicomm integrity on his watch. He had followed procedure and formed an investigation board immediately, sending his preliminary findings to two fellow Watch Officers, pulling them on duty to being analysis. He had also pulled awake ten more TAs, softwiring them wherever they were, to start scanning psicomm for more programs. Grimacing, he reached over and over-forcefully thumbed the screen where the smiling profile of Cpl. Lost stared back at him. He had never had to do this before.

The walk was looking to be a long and silent one and as much as he was looking forward to bearing a heroic visage carrying a wounded comrade back to base on foot, the pilot needed help so Soap's pride could take one for the team.

She looks around the battlefield, looking for survivors or anyone in need of help. She idily plays with the shouldplate of her armour, cracked, the suit under is nearly shattered.

Aberham arrives on the scene a few moment later, watching with great confusion as his commander take the body,

Something was wrong, obviously, normally he would have been entrusted with the dead.

He could call out, but decided against it. No one really ever listened anyways.

He looked up at the 'friendly' reaver surveying the carnage, its movements disconcerting. He shrugged at it, for lack of anything better to communicate.

Well not all. One bullet hit the corner of the panel, ricocheted to, and bounced off his helmet. It hurt. A lot.

Blaze head butted the crew man, crushing his nose into his face, then proceeded to sprint, stumbling like a crazed drunkard, towards the exit.

"FUCKING..."

"STOP HIM!"

"FUCKING XENOS!"

Another man tried to step in front of him, but Blaze leaned downwards, lifting the crew man up and over his shoulder, dropping him behind his path as he kept moving. Upon reaching the exit, he didn't bother to stop to see if it was open, slamming his cranium against the closed door. Twisting over and collapsing on his back, he stared upwards with bewildered eyes before blacking out.
