Color scheme is still to be decided, but we seem to be leaning towards quartered gold/yellow and purple.

For those new to the thread: we have one major project still ahead of us if there are any drawfriends who would like to get involved. We need a few pictures of the chapter symbol.

It is a two headed owl (or aquila depending on rank/status) clutching an hourglass. One of the two heads is slumped down and asleep, possibly blindfolded too, while the other head is alert and watchful. Wings outspread or tucked in could also be a rank thing so feel free to get creative.

Variations of this that are ornate and cool to look at or small and easy to transfer into Dawn of War are cool. Any and all will be appreciated and archived.

Hey, speaking out of my ass here, but a suggestion:

What if the Officio Assassinorum were to give the chapter an eversor, to be used when things really go pear shaped in a mission (a squad falls into a coma and can't be extracted safely), seeing as they prefer the stealthy option, an eversor could be a useful tool for getting shit done. In reality, the eversor is there due to the inquisition's suspicions regarding the chapter. It's a useful tool, so I don't see why the chapter won't accept it, and I think that it's nice how the chapter is like a down toned version of an eversor.

Also, I could see a nice "miniature" icon for them being half a sun, and half a moon. It's nice and minimalistic, but describes them pretty well. The sun could be red at the bottom, and bright golden orange at the top, while the moon is silvery white and monochrome.

In one alcove alongside many in the quiet hall, Brother Nero slept, and dreamed.

He drifted in a comfortable void, and felt the minds of his fellow sleepers shining like stars around him. He was safe here, content, a long and welcome rest after months of growing mania had blurred the passing of days.

Roiling chaos scratched at the edges of his awareness, and a blade came to Nero's hand unbidden as he strode forth to ensure no daemon dared to trouble the rest of his battle-brothers. The dream-scape was secure, as it always was, but Nero still paced to the edges of his sight and examined each sleeping light for signs of distress.

He was about to return to his own rest when a far distant light flared with a golden radiance that pierced the chaos beyond and sent the daemons and warp-scavengers away howling in pain. Prostrate before Him, Nero beheld the light casting a strange shadow-play through the winds of the warp, and he saw himself and his battle-brothers striding through a city in flames even as a great beast gnawed at it's foundations. He saw terrible destruction, great works of man cast down, and-

    Bondswoman Cassandra?

    "Sir?"

Nero rose unsteadily and waved the adept away. A task was before him, and the time for rest was over

We are having so much trouble picking a color scheme I think each company should have its own. Each company could take pride in their own colors and patterns above those of others. Maybe eliminate the vet. 1st company and have something close to the Salamander's tribal battle groups.

    >>13807705

it's generalized agreement because we haven't picked anything particularly good yet. I think the quartered schema looks far better on non-stealthy groups. Yes, we can like raiding and commando ops however much we want, but, I want us to look like things from a nightmare - quartered colour scheme is just too heraldry-ish for us to get away with as sneaky.

    >>13807713
actually has a pretty good color scheme - you could make the eyes yellow for a better effect, and we could do something more than just white for the accentuations (because right now it just looks like a reaccented Emp's. Children fig). But, I like the dark bruised purple.

We'd needn't marry ourselves to the idea of always creating contrasting colours - especially if someone wants to try blending effects where the color of the purple is bright near the top and goes through the darker purples to a navy-blue/black for accenting.

I personally think that purple with navy-blue accents would work best
    >> Anonymous 02/06/11(Sun)18:55 No.13807890
    >>13807830

Additionally, in regards to the color-scheme posted by >>13807713, we don't need to use black for all of the joints/cables on the model - I think that said joints/cables could hold our "bright color splash" assuming that the color was muted enough to keep with the rest of the scheme.

So dark purple (was it Liche purple used in the picture?), with navy/dark blue accenting and a mottled dark orangish color for the joints.

Or we could keep them black - which seems kind of bland/boring. Maybe another dark color - like a forest green?

Fa/tg/uy who first proposed the quartered purple/yellow scheme here. I feel compelled to tell you that yours is not at all what I had in mind. I'm not a fan of the alternating trim colours at all. I think it makes it look too... stripey? If you like it though that's awesome and I look forward to seeing your mini.

I posted what I meant by quartered in the last thread. Just below yours actually but you were a bit quicker in making it. (the one with the plasma pistol. I can't repost it yet because the image is still on the board so I'll link it here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/13783333/images/1296950095375.jpg)

Pure blocks. No bracelets of yellow on the purple wrists or anything like that.

Whatever works for you though. Maybe the additional bands of colour can be like... honour markings?

    >it's generalized agreement because we haven't picked anything particularly good yet

I thought it was generalized agreement because it was particularly good. The golden yellow and metalic purple renditions people have been making in the dawn of war painter look amazing.

That said, I think you have a great point about alternate markings for stealth groups. The Imperial Fists have a "night world camo" scheme in a white dwarf a few years ago. Something like that maybe? Theirs was kinda simplistic though. They were basically just black with yellow pauldrons. We could do better.

Again though for the sake of discussion: we've been trying to reconcile "Take Pride in Your Colours" with being ravenguard successors. In the last SM codex Take Pride was supposed to represent marines with heraldic armour who disdained camo and stealth. I'm not sure if sneaking around would really be true to the random rolls that started this whole thing. Hitting really hard and fast with FABULOUS armour and then vanishing with a perfectly timed extraction thunderhawk seems more up their alley. They're not Raven Guard, they're their own chapter y'know? They can do their own thing.

The armour doesn't need to be fabulous, it doesn't have to fit the last codex.

They're RAVEN GUARD successors. They're a stealthy chapter. Maybe the taking pride in their colours represents them never using any of the codex approved camo patterns, but that doesn't mean their armour should look bright and ridiculous.

Another fa/tg/guy advocating relatively muted, blues and purples.

And in terms of "pride in their colors" I've always interpreted this as more of a pride for their banners, iconography, heraldry, etc. "colors" being used in its traditional military context, ala "regimental colors" ones flag/banner. This interpretation would also fit their "Totemic Charm: This chapter has strong beliefs in the icons of either the Emperor or their Primarch. A Battle Brother from this chapter would never be caught without such an icon on their person." thing. Since this pride would also pertain to such icons. Just my two cents, but I think we're losing some of the chapters original flavor if we keep going towards this "shiny marines" idea.

I used some speed back in the days, often coupled with sleep deprivation.

Staying awake for three days, hallucinations, that jazz.

And I must say, this slow, stealthy thing coupled with frantic fast movement is a really good combo for something "sleep" related.

When you're going on for two days without sleep, you start to feel sluggish and slow, until you have something to do (shooting heretics), and suddenly you get all psyched.

I've gotta say I'm losing intrest in the chapter if they're just another stealthy chapter. I don't like the new colour schemes and I don't like the emphasis on stealth that all these new posters are trying to force. The chapter is becoming less unique by the second.

Martial pride in ones "colors" can have different meanings and be expressed in different ways, hell, even the meaning of "colors" in that context can vary. In contrast "stealth" is a pretty clear concept. Basically the "pride" is a flexible and varying concept that can be shaped to fit the stealth and other rolls of the chapter, while "stealth" is a fairly clear concept that cannot be vastly contorted or distorted to fit your flamboyant interpretation of the colors and audacity of these marines.

Not to sound like a broken record, so this is the last time I will suggest it. The battle groups each having their own colors and personalities would solve a lot of this. One group takes pride in stealth and their mute colors. The other like the commando hit and run with gold and purple. It would be a way to move forward and start fleshing out each battle group, we have seem to stalled.

The stealth isn't exactly new, it was pretty much one of the first things rolled, starting with the Raven Guard geneseed.......and I agree they are far more than just sneaky marines, we've already established a ton of cool fluff ideas involving dreams, librarians, awareness drugs, psykers, and history. All that fluff is what makes them unique, we're just currently arguing for a less butt ugly yellow color scheme, and fighting against a really simplistic interpretation of the pride and whutnot. The paint mock-ups people are posting towards the end here are mostly from the first thread, just saying.......

I vote for this. I'm stubborn about my opinion and so are my esteemed elligan/tg/entlemen peers. Lets go with this so that we can move on from bickering about colours and get back to all the cool shit this chapter has going for it.

Should we say three main battle groups (kinda like the new Forge World Sons of Medusa)? Each specialized in one or two aspects of commando warfare such as stealth, hit and run and so forth?

They're a primarily codex chapter so we could say three companies in each battle group (900 marines total) plus a scout company based out of the fortress monastary that is sent out to train with all three groups and then will be assigned perminantly to one based on what each aspirant excels at?

Since the Chapter doesn't use dedicated Devastator Squads (though I'm sure it still has heavy weapons in the Tactical squads), something has to fill in the firepower support position. I assume that task falls to the Sleepers/Dreadnoughts? What else? Do you think the chapter makes much use of armoured vehicles?
    >> Anonymous 02/06/11(Sun)20:24 No.13808796
The different battle companies could have nothing at all to do with how long you have been in the chapter or how well you fight. Part of the initiation could be drinking a very powerful sleeping agent, it kills some applicants but so do most of the initiation rights. While in the dream the images you see lead you to your battle group. Once there your training continues with them.

    Another good counterargument.

Okay... so what do people think about the three seperate battle groups? Should we go with that?

Having seperate schemes for each of ten companies seems like a lot of work.

    How about:
Stealthy black-ops style scheme for the first battlegroup (something very dark)
Heraldry/parade armour/whatever for the second group specializing in shock and awe raids and extractions (the purple and golden yellow quartered)
Maybe a camo pattern and survailence focus for the third battlegroup?

Sounds more codexy, and we don't really have a third speciality. Unless there's a permanent company of sleeping marines? With people being transfered in and out.

Riflemen dreads take the place of devastors in general yeah.

    Hm... vehicles...

Well one of the things that first inspired the BA ruleset to be proposed was twitchy drivers doing incredible stunts like drifting around obstacles and whatnot in their rhinos, so I definitely see them using some. I think it would vary between the two battlegroups a fair bit. (what if the third battle group was an armoured corps, similar to the old Dark Angles Ironwing?). I could see the stealth group making extensive use of predators with camo netting. Place them somewhere like a week in advance and then fuck up the enemy's retreat after the shock and awe group forces them back.

Well Raven Guard arnt very fond of tanks, but I could see them being used in a blitzkrieg capacity, especially in the shock and awe battle group, (assuming we go for this method of dividing of the chapter).

    >>13808806
tri-partite division seems good, as your previous argument partner I gotta say, its a good compromise that allows for variation in both looks and tactics, but without the chapter getting too hodge-podge in its make up.

Oh it's totally arbitrary. It was just a gut thing. I feel like a chapter with three "prongs" of attack just feels more tactically sound than two. I dunno why. I also have no clue what that third group would even BE. I was just going off the new Sons of Medusa fluff where it sounded cool.

    >>13808871
And a jolly good argument it was. I'm actually warming to the idea of a stealth portion of the chapter now. I just loved those DoW quartered renderings so much. I didn't want to see the scheme get discarded entirely.

That's about what any given codex chapter has actually. 2 or 3 per company for a total of around 30 give or take.

Might want a bit more than that on average for the nightmares. 100 total is still too much but maybe 40-50?

They're one of those rarer chapters that can make their dreads in-house so I imagine they could maintain about fifty dreads more or less. More than that would be very difficult though, even with all the machinery on site.

Fifty Dreadnoughts sounds good, spread across the companies. So First company is Veterans and 10th is Scouts, as per codex. What about the rest? 50/50 divide, or is there anything more interesting?

Interestingly, the Raven Guard's Companies are entirely autonomous, deploying where they wish. Most chapters deploy with squads from each company, depending on what's tactically sound but the Raven Guard deploy from single companies most of the time.

The Chapter Master, if I remember correctly, is interred in a dread in more or less perma-sleep, roused only every few hundred years. The Chapter is instead run by a council of second-in-commands (Viziers? Adjutants? Did we ever settle on a title?), as consolidating power in one guy who could pass out at any time is perhaps not the best of ideas. I was thinking a council of the Company Captains might make sense, given the entire "autonomy for the companies" shtick.

I am also getting images of Apotheciares roaming the battlefield apologizing to passed-out battle-brothers for rousing them from their Emperor-blessed repose with adrenal stimulants.

Almost right. The chapter master, an ex-Raptor (I forget his name. It began with an R), actually can't wake up. He has been asleep for about 1,000 years although he is sometimes carried into battle anyway as a kind of holy relic. His vitals are there but all attempts to rouse him fail. It was proposed that this was because a minion of the prince he once banished stole his mind and the chapter's dreamers are on a quest to find it again so he can wake up.

Well, I was thinking more of Apothecaries holding a conflicted place in the Chapter - of course, on one hand they are crucial for the health of the chapter, and so revered for that. On the other hand though, their role in rousing battle-brothers who have passed out mid-battle (and also maybe sedating those brothers who are utterly unable to pass out due to extremes of mutation? Dreamless drug-fugue sleeps...) is an affront to their Emperor-given duties in the dreamscape.

So a summary of chapter organization:

Randolf: First and only Chapter Master

The Wake: 5 senior chapter members that command the chapter until such time as Randolf's mind can be returned to him

Battlegroup Primus: Shock and Awe specialists. 4 battle companies. One company captain is elected to be a Lord Adjutant

Battlegroup Secundus: Stealth and black-ops specialists. 4 battle companies. One company captain is elected to be a Lord Adjutant.

    Scout company.

Veteran company "The Night Owls" 100 strong. Both battlegroups have their own regular veterans of sorts, but fully half of the Night Owls are intombed within dreadnoughts. These fifty warriors rule over themselves and no one else within the chapter dares to insist they elect an official leader. The other fifty members of the veteran company (along with some of the dreadnoughts) are those with psychic potential who are capable of the dream fighting for which the chapter is known.

Not included are those who are completely unable to sleep and have been driven insane. These warriors are not uncommon but once they become unable to sleep at all they are considered dead and are stricken from the chapter's roster and a scout is promoted in their place. These tragic souls are taken from all companies and organized into their own special squads.

Randolph is a badass daemon slaying Raptor who was seconded to the chapter (along with several apothecaries, techmarines and a few other support staff) to lead it upon its creation. The chapter has sleep problems because of a mutation in the catalpsean node. Randolph is perminantly unconscious 'cause a powerful daemonic minion stole his mind to avenge its master.

But yeah. Notes on how many dreadnoughts are slumbering is a great point. Probably about half of them most of the time?

I just think that as trained superhuman warriors who have to cope with this every day they might be able feel it coming on and have a few minutes warning. As I recall the original trait rolled said sleep comes on suddenly but not instantaniously. I don't see them crashing all their landspeeders for example. Maybe like thirty seconds of warning symptoms. It would definitely fuck them up, and fuck over all kinds of plans, but if they all just fall asleep with absolutely no warning whatsoever the chapter couldn't function at all and the pilots would kill everybody.

Yeah, and that's when they're powering through cloned bodies to make them as quickly as possible. The risk of mutation is much higher.

I could see them really taking their time given that the reason they'd be doing this is because of the crippling mutation the chapter suffers from. Plus it's probably more of a side project of the chapter's apothecaries rather than a fully furnished Mars gene lab with hundreds of personel and additional resources. It could also have been started much later than M40. Maybe they only extracted Randolf's prognoid glands like a hundred years ago after finally getting pissed off at their own shitty gene seed? Though his mind has been stolen, he fights on with his chapter in a war not only against the deamons and the warp, but against the power of the Thousand Sons chief sorcerer and his slow, but inevitable unraveling of his mind.

Shall we say eleven then? Both so we can avoid the 'lucky 13' stuff and so that we only need to decide on one more person to be on the council.

So 2 Lord Adjutants, 5 Venerable Dreads, Master of the Forge, Chief Librarian, Chief Apothecary and... whom?

but if it's an even number they can't cast a deciding vote on a tie. Gotta have an uneven number for easy decision making.

I guess it could also be thirteen in a pinch and we say that the Chief Librarian also brings along a trio of his best trained dreamwalkers who are the three most receptive to prophetic visions? It brings a bit more mysticism into the leadership of the chapter than I'd really like but it works in a pinch.

If it's 11 maybe the 11th guy is the captain of the scout company?

Oh wait. Fucking derp. The eleventh guy is the head chaplain. (Unless we're going with that combined librarian/chaplain thing from earlier, but this is supposed to be a primarily codex chapter)

Slightly revised summary of chapter organization if someone wants to throw it up on 1d4chan:

Randolf: First and only Chapter Master. Entombed within a dreadnought but his mind has been stolen by Tzeentchian sorcery.

The Wake: 11 senior chapter members that command the chapter until such time as Randolf's mind can be returned to him. It is comprised of the two Lord Adjutants, the Chief Apothecary, Master of Sanctity, Chief Librarian, Master of the Forge and five of the Night Owls Venerable Dreadnoughts.

Battlegroup Primus: Shock and Awe specialists. 4 codex battle companies. One company captain is elected to be a Lord Adjutant

Battlegroup Secundus: Stealth and black-ops specialists. 4 codex battle companies. One company captain is elected to be a Lord Adjutant.

    Scout company.

Veteran company "The Night Owls" Approx. 100 strong. Both battlegroups have their own regular veterans of sorts, but fully half of the Night Owls are intombed within dreadnoughts (all the chapter's dreadnoughts are technically members of the Night Owls company, though they are often perminantly seconded elsewhere). These fifty warriors rule over themselves and no one else within the chapter dares to insist they elect an official leader. The other fifty members of the veteran company (along with some of the dreadnoughts) are those with psychic potential who are capable of the dream fighting for which the chapter is known. Many of the night owls are prone to coma like fugues that last for many weeks and only two dozen of their esteemed dreadnoughts are awake at any one time.

Not included are those who are completely unable to sleep and have been driven insane. These warriors are not uncommon but once they become unable to sleep at all they are considered dead and are stricken from the chapter's roster and a scout is promoted in their place. These tragic souls are taken from all companies and organized into their own special squads.

It's interesting to note that while mostly codex, the Emperor's Nightmares have no reserve companies of any sort. They have eight battle companies divided into two groups and one scout company.

Battle companies are usually 6 tactical, 2 assault, 2 devastator, but since we don't have devastators, what do those 20 marines do? My vote goes to an additional two tactical squads but it doesn't really matter and it probably varies by company whether they're assault or tactical.

Alternatively, we could be like the Howling Griffons were everyone and his dog is a tactical marine and we have no dedicated assault marines, just tactical marines who sometimes put on jump packs.

What if the marines were all dark colors save for elements of the chapter insignia? Maybe a sun symbol casting its rays upon the hour glass.

It had been, by Thureos' reckoning, two hundred and nineteen point four seven three solar cycles – Terran reckoning – since he had last slept under his own power. In that time, Thureos had learned much that he had hitherto been unaware of. For instance, it had been one hundred and seventy-six solar cycles since the crippling drowsiness had abated, and everything had become perfectly clear. One hundred and sixty-eight cycles since he had realized that speed was not a matter of exertion, but simple flawless movement. One hundred and forty-three since the Apothecaries had first subjected him to that hateful, blessed dreamless rest that their tinctures and tonics make possible. Thureos had long believed that sleep without awareness was a perversion of his sacred duty to defend the Materium without rest, but – he had to admit to himself, if only to himself – that he had not cared when, at long last, oblivion had come for him for those few incomparable days.

One hundred and twenty-seven since he had been seperated from his Battle-Brothers of the Fifth Company and sequestered away with the rest of his...kind. One hundred and ten since he had realized that the Emperor did nothing without a purpose and that this too was a kind of strength; that he could stand sentry while his other Brothers fulfilled their duties in the Immaterium. One hundred and eight since he had first started lashing out at the walls and the bulkheads, begging for respite. He did not like to remember that. It was weakness on his part, as Brother-Chaplain Chaeronius and Brother-Apothecary Hipparches had explained to him in the gentlest of tones; as a Battle-Brother of the Emperor's Nightmares – no, as a Space Marine – there was no room for weakness. Ninety-seven since the Apothecaries had last tried to sedate him, but this time it had not worked and rest eluded him still.

Ninety-two since he had finally stopped screaming at the walls and had accepted his lot.

    >>13811646
Since then, things had become more lucid still for Thureos. All of his proud Chapter had reflexes beyond compare, but it had been eighty-four cycles since Thureos realized that his alacrity outshone even theirs. Nothing escaped his notice, now – even the most minute detail screamed like a dying man to his ever-roving eyes. Eighty cycles since his first revelation on speed had been deemed inadequate, and the awareness that there was no pause whatsoever between intention and motion. As he willed, so his enhanced body had already shifted.

Seventy since he had last participated in a combat drop. Time had flowed like blood, then. And with that, deeper understandings were forthcoming.

Fifty since the Materium and Immaterium began to overlap. Fourty-seven since walls were no longer walls and that even his blessed boltgun was no longer a boltgun, but merely his hatred for the mutant, the witch, the traitor, the xenos, and the heretic made manifest. Fourty-three since Brother-Apothecary Hipparches had taken away his boltgun, telling him so very patiently that it would be returned to him when next he, Brother Thureos, would face the enemies of the Emperor. If only Hipparches knew. Thirty-seven cycles ago had been a thousand eternities ago and he would live forever because he could not die until the Emperor's work was complete. Thirty-five since he had removed his eyes because he knew that they were blinding him. Thirty-three had been when they had begun forcibly restraining him, which was futile because Thureos knew all the secrets of fluidity and nothing could hold him back. Twenty-nine had been his first escape, and he had nearly choked the life out of that daemon stalking the hallways of the battle-barge. He had torn out the twin hearts of that malevolent beast before his Brothers had dragged him away forcibly, none willing to match his gaze.

Twenty-five cycles ago, Thureos knew that the Emperor had granted his wishes and he now walked within dreams and reality. He had known all along that the Emperor had not forsaken him, and that this test served only to temper his will. Truly, he could now serve the Emperor as a Nightmare was supposed to. Twenty since they had moved him from his previous bindings to this new, quieter location – where he could find rest, Hipparches told him. But Hipparches still did not know that he, Thureos, needed no rest; the Emperor had decreed that he would stand watch eternally over all approaches, and so he would. Nineteen point eight eight since he had decried himself for unbecoming thoughts regarding Brother-Apothecary Hipparches. Had Hipparches not always regarded him with the most scrupulous and careful attention?

    HadnotHipparchesdeniedhimhissleephissleephissleephissleephissleepwhywontyouletmesleep?

Eighteen since he had counted every rivet in every sub-panel in his new resting chamber. Seventeen since he had counted the stars outside the resting chamber because the resting chamber was all there was and it was sailing through the Warp to deliver him to his next battle where he would finally destroy that blasphemous Eye and all the vileness within it because it was the Emperor's will and none may gainsay His Most Divine Purpose. Sixteen since the chamber had disappeared and it was just Thureos amidst the infinite universe, all that there was between everything that ever was and nothing that ever would be.

Fourteen since Chapter Master Randolph had talked to him and said that Thureos had a high doom before him still. Truly, Master Randolph speaks with the Emperor's Grace.

Eleven since he wished to taste the blood of the foe upon his lips once again. It had been so long since he had last seen battle. It was inappropriate for a Battle-Brother of his stature to go so long without reciting the Rites of Battle and the Canticles of Malediction. When would Hipparches give him his boltgun back? He was the boltgun and the boltgun was he; Hipparches had no right taking his hands from him like that.

Nine since time had stopped. Eight since it had started again. Eight since it stopped again. Eight since it became irrelevant because there was only the Emperor – and Thureos, his ever-faithful blade of vindication. Eight since the laughing had started. Three since it had stopped because it could not continue because there was nothing left to continue with. Two since he had decided that it was eight that it was twenty that it was nineteen thousand six hundred and fifty nine point eight eight four three point eleven. One since, once again, he had slipped his bonds again and was again stalking the halls of the Dream-Waking, hunting its monstrous denizens so that they could not harm his beloved, beloved Battle-Brothers.

Zero point twenty-two since the Emperor had told him that the Dream could only be stopped by destroying the Gellar Field. Zero point nineteen since he had told Brother Hipparches that he would never understand. Zero point eleven since he had prayed in the chapel for the Emperor's guidance. Zero point six since all matter became a single dot within the infinite flow of the universe. Zero point five since Thureos had destroyed that matter. Zero point four since the laughter had resumed even though everything was so dark and he could not see but he did not need to see because the Emperor had a plan for him.

    Zero point-

Sighing heavily, Brother-Apothecary Hipparches of the Emperor's Nightmares withdrew his Narthecium from the base of what was once Battle-Brother Thureos' spine. Praise the Emperor, the dosage this time had been enough. He gestured to the Serfs accompanying him to collect the catatonic form of the Space Marine. He would be armed and armoured once more, and deployed in the next assault. It was the only remaining mercy for one as far gone as Thureos. As the eyeless body was moved away, Hipparches leaned in to the ear of his former brother and whispered.

My push on a symbol of the Emperor over the Imperium has to do with my understanding (at least with some of the older fluff -I don't know how it is now) that most marines never saw the Emperor as a god, following in line with the primarchs, seeing him more as a father. This, naturally, puts off the ecclesiarchy.

As to the Aquila, well, half the time it's an owl anyway so it's not like the chapter symbol is really glorifying the Emperor thaaaat much.

I know we wanted to move past this, but I did this last night when I saw the second thread so I just wanted to share.

It shares the general scheme of >>13808497 ,one of the originals, but I changed the shoulder trims and aquila to silver for a better contrast, while still tying in the dark purple and blue. Other than for colour theory I also thought silver could be a really effective colour to use since it can really draw upon the same symbolism of dreams that we all agreed worked well with the deep purple and navy blue.

Eh. Symbolism can be pretty entertaining. Pretty tricky stylizing an hourglass and keeping it recognizable I think. Was thinking maybe an hourglass looking kind of like a sideways infinity symbol might be interesting.

Wow...sorry to have been away, it seems the beast has grown quite a bit.

As for colors, I have to throw in with the purple base with maybe a gray highlight. They're supposed to be a stealthy Raven Guard successor after all. At least for the common troops the tactical marines and infiltrators and whatnot. But the Elites...oh the Elites, the Terminators, the Assault Marines... Give them a lighter purple and either a Yellow or light blue. Something to make them stand out, something to make them noticeable. Something that hails them like the coming of the dawn. So the vast majority of the chapter bears the dark muted colors of night, while the strike force carries the color of the morning sun.

If you remember we rolled "Shock and Awe" for our chapter tactic, there's nothing in there that says it can't be the dawn assault. I envision them sneaking in under the cover of darkness while you're sleeping. Everything is in place, everything is silent. Then the coming of the first light, while you're still lost in those dreams that only come just before waking...and BOOM.

TELEPORT HOMERS! TERMINATORS! ASSAULT MARINES! GUNSHIP STRAFING RUNS! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!! 1812 OVERTURE!! THEY'RE BEHIND THE LINES! THEY'RE IN FRONT OF THE LINES!! PRAYERS BEFORE DYING!!!

sorry to double post. Damn "Field too long"

I see a lot of other stuff I like too. Dreadnaughts are obviously going to have to pick up some slack for the lack of devastators. And while I only skimmed through a lot of the chapter organisation, I remember rolling for a Codex adherent chapter with some divergent thoughts. I assumed this would mean something similar to Raven Guard with each Company sort of being an entire chapter on its own, with its own scouts and all. This kind of independence would have to be essential as 1/3 to 1/2 of your company at any given time would be unable to don the armor. This also makes me think that they might have something like 8 companies (a la Space Wolves. Maybe they're to the Galactic north of Terra and the Wolves rubbed off on them a bit) in order swell the ranks a bit to make up for the sleepers.

Keep the ideas coming. Happy to see the drawfags taking an interest. Working hard on some writefaggotry (saw some too!) Hope you'll enjoy when I post it.

Good timing. I just ran into this thread and made this. Hope people like it, I'm a bit rusty and tired.

The battle had not gone well.

The few survivors of the PDF crouched behind sandbags and the cracked remnants of an archway, only able to make snap-shots amid the storm of bolts and warpfire.

And in the middle, a point of calm in a roiling sea of activity, was the still form of Sleeper Michelak. Like a statue, he stood amid their defensive position, sleeping deep as the rounds flew.

Watcher Gavroche was all that was keeping these men together, he realized--when he deemed the time right, he'd bark the order, and the men would rise en-masse and release a great, defiant fusillade, change positions, and hunker down once again. Sometimes they lost a man in this tactical shift. Sometimes they didn't. But Gavroche was running out of men, and the traitor legions seemed without number.

If only Michelak hadn't fallen into the Dreams, he wished. Just one more brother could have made the difference over these last two days. At least he was being ignored--perhaps the Chaos marines thought it amusing. An insult, or a symbol. He supposed it didn't matter. Not any more.

He moved before he saw--a flawlessly conditioned reaction, as one of the hated enemy vaulted the pillar he had taken cover behind, and brought his roaring chainaxe down for his skull. The Watcher didn't even try to draw his own sword, instead seizing the heretic by his wrist as he danced aside. The bolt-pistol snapped up as the axe dug its own grave in the earth, snarling and howling. The berserker hadn't even had time to register surprise as the Nightmare pressed his gun to his temple, rounding out the fluid motion.

"Chargers! Over the walls!" He roared to the guardsmen as he dispatched the first of them.

If only Michelak hadn't fallen into the Dreams...

One, ten, a hundred, beyond count. In the whirl, Gavroche had taken up the sword from the fallen sergeant, and began vaulting from position to position, defending the soldiers from the assault. They kept firing into the horde as he felled them one by one, sliding in and out of cover. He dared the warp-tainted projectiles to hit him, and they sang in the air just a split-second behind him. He didn't slow when the sword broke--he jammed what was left of it into the offending berserker's eyepiece and drew his own. He didn't slow when his bolter clicked empty--he holstered it in one smooth motion, knowing it had served its purpose as he stood in a wreath of brass. He didn't slow when he felt the hit--his midsection. The tainted shot burned in his side, but to stumble was to invite the rest to do what it had not.

Finally, he had completed the move. He sank to the ground behind a wall as his body finally began to betray him. Three casualties. But the position held one more assault. His armored hands began to pull the shattered ceramite free of his side, already staunching from his thickening blood. Treat the wound, bind his side, he could keep going. He could keep going. He had to keep going. If only Michelak...

The guardsman was shouting, but he couldn't hear. His vision slid in and out as he watched the man lifted off the ground and brutally sliced in half. His right arm wouldn't move. He drew his bolt-pistol and fired. Click. Click. Click. Imprisoned in his languid body, his mind raced, trying to find an option to contest this threat. Wreathed in the fell energy of the warp, the Chaos champion laughed, advancing on the stricken Watcher, his blackened gauntlet stretching close...
    >> Anonymous 02/07/11(Mon)04:09 No.13813205
    >>13813190
...Just as Michelak barreled into the traitor, rolling and striking without weapons--they had needed his arms while he slept. Elbow, fist, helmet, anything and everything he had at hand as he battered his opposite. The horned helm was torn off and smashed through its wearer's arm. Michelak rose, bolt shells exploding and warp energy splashing over his armor, carving angry red furrows into its surface. He roared and threw the shattered remnants of the Chaos champion over the wall just in time for a second to run him through from behind.

He turned, seizing his attacker and presenting him to the gun-line of heretics, who never once stopped firing. The howling chaos astartes was ablated in short order, and with a grunt Michelak pulled the sword from his abdomen and flung it away. He kneeled a moment, and rose again with the boltgun of a fallen brother. As he was lanced through with radiant energies and exploding projectiles, he fired, and fired, and fired.

And, sometime, through the haze and the pain, it was over.

The fighting had been long and fierce, fought in and out of the hellish parapets of the floating city of Aespre against the heretics daring to hold it as their profane bastion, but the Blood Ravens were victorious. Instrumental to the victory was the work of an elite predator spearhead which had punctured the plasma-soaked killing grounds in front of the planetary governer's palace. Brother Ereos had to admit there was nothing quite like the thrill of linebreaking, piloting his red steel behemoth into the faithless dogs, weapons blazing, crushing hapless members of the planetary defence force beneath his treads. However, it was not his, but the predator commanded by Brother Echalades which had won the day.

Later, he had approached Echaledes while he sat brooding upon the edge of the city.

"I've known you for longer than anyone in this chapter, old friend. Since we took our initiation together, I've seen us both mature into fine pilots, instruments of the Emperor's fury made tangible...But in Kyras' name I've never seen anybody handle a predator so well. Your new charge is treating you well then?" Echalades responded to his friend's smile with a chuckle, turning to him and folding his arms.

"It is quite a machine...The Machine spirit is a willful one, very willful, I've never felt such a tug from any in our arsenal." He declared curtly, gazing into the green oceans millions of miles below. "Apparently it was originally from The Emperor's Nightmares, and you know as well as I do their tendancy for comas. Thus, I believe the machine spirit is strong enough that if one of the Nightmares falls into their comas, the predator could be controlled for long enough for someone to take over. A marvellous piece of technology."

"...Brother Gavroche..." It was difficult to speak. His vox was broken. No, his helmet was flooded.

"Here, brother." The Watcher watched the Sleeper.

"Of the men... survivors?" He rasped.

"Six. You saved them, Michelak." The auspex in his hand told him what he already knew. He removed Michelak's helmet to help the man breathe.

"Forgive me, brother." He rasped. Though both knew the Sleep came as it would, they both also knew what it was to awaken to a losing battle.

"It is nothing. You saved us all."

"I saw Him. In the sleep."

"Michelak, try not to speak. You are wounded."

"He told me... you needed me. Here." They were silent for a time.

    "...Brother Gavroche."

    "Here, Michelak"

    "I am... tired."

The Watcher placed his hand on the Sleeper's forehead.

    "Then sleep, brother."

Ereos raised an eyebrow, folding his arms across his armoured chest with an expression of obvious disbelief. Picking up this wordless derision, Echaledes removed his helmet and laid it gingerly on his lap, sighing.

"I know your question. How we ended up with an Emperor's Nightmare predator. In truth I could not tell you, I was merely told it was recovered from a catastrophic battle against the orks of Waaagh!!! Gitchop. Loathe to allow the remains of the vehicle be cannibalised by orks, we took it with is. In the ensuing confusion of the battle it was forgotten about, and by the time someone found it we were too far away to make returning it practical."

"Typical. What went so badly wrong with this campaign?" This question made the tank pilot glower, shifting away slightly.

"Some of the Nightmare's soldiers succumbed to a bizarre sleepless mania during the ambush, and hurtled forward to engage the prey. The orks were forewarned, and we were faced with the entire fury of the Waaagh!!! upon landing. A black day for us all."

I really like the image of protecting a valued marine that is taken by the sleep. It's quite moving for a 40k image.

Though I assumed they would be keeping careful track of how long a Marine has been since their last sleep, with a certain threshold for prevention of such a thing from occurring.

But long campaigns and the like...you know...shit happens.

I like the idea of three specialized functions-- Watcher, Sleeper, Dreamer. It's a reference, but a very appropriate one for the theme. The Watchers would be pseudo-chaplains overseeing their flock. Sleepers would be an honorific of some kind bestowed to their veterans. Dreamers would be those who have the True Sleep, and are stronger wandering the dreams than in the material.

So I'm a bit tired after writing the story with the Watcher and the Sleeper, but I had an idea for a Nightmare marine seconded to the deathwatch speaking with someone from another chapter, and they get to talking about the sleep. Question the fellowship with psykers. They tell the Nightmare they don't believe this 'dream-fighting' thing. The Nightmare asks what they believe it is.

"Stories and delusions of grandeur. Justifications for a flaw in the gene-seed."

Nightmare gives them a steely look and simply responds "And now you know why we associate most with those who see the universe as it truly is," and walk away.

In addition, had another thought for Watchers, Sleepers, and Dreamers.
    Watchers are as above.
A Sleeper is anyone who can walk the dreams properly.
A Dreamer is a Nightmare psyker who can fight the beasts of the immaterium on their grounds.

Sergeant Alexis of the Emperor's Nightmare checked his weapons for the second time before looking to his squad. Brothers Layland, Cleon, Zotico, Platon, and Rhodes stood in place as Dreamer Evander looked over them all. He snuck one more glance into the amphitheatre below, where several dozen cultists chanted in their blasphemous tongue. His eyes treated the center ones as no threat but the armed guards were somewhat worrisome. While their armor was nothing to note, the fact that these men had gotten hold of Melta weapons was unsettling to say the least. It implied that these men had access to funds that should have been far beyond what they could have grabbed. As far as Alexis knew, there had been no weapons shipments of Heavy Weaponry, and the criminal scum on this planet stuck to simple las weapons.

    Unsettling.

But, he and his men were Astartes. They would not be dissuaded by men like these. His keen eyes sought entrances, exits, and structural weak points the squad could breach. He wished Zotico had brought his own Melta, before chiding himself. The Flamer would be of great use in burning up the shrine to the Warp Gods.

Out of habit, he stuck to hand signals and grinned as he noticed no hesitation from any of his men, even from Cleon, recently promoted from the Scout Ranks. As everyone rose to go to their positions, Alexis suddenly noticed that Dreamer Evander was still. He chanced a vox query to receive no reply. Evander was asleep. But how could that be? His month long collapse had only been a week ago. The Dreamer should have been ready to fight for a few more weeks… unless…

Alexis looked down once more at the cultists, now noticing an undercurrent of worry. His ears caught snatches of Low Gothic.

    "-wrong. Is he not pleased?"

"A delay it --- nothing to worry about."

The Sergeant chuckled before telling his squad, "Our Dreamer has beaten us to the fight it seems."

They understood instantly. Layland and Rhodes dragged the Dreamer's prone form to a corner before falling back.

"Layland, protect our Brother," Alexis ordered.

Brother Layland did not argue, merely setting his bolter at the ready.

Alexis envied his Brother, jealous at how easily the man could fall asleep. What was so simple for many was a rarity amongst the Emperor's Nightmare Chapter. But then again, this was not a true rest. It would be another battle, in the realm of the Empyrean. "Well then, you know your places."

Dreamer Evander opened his eyes to find himself alone in a field of fog. He marveled, as he always did, at the sight of his bare arms, so skinny and scarred. This was who he had been before he'd crawled out of the damnable Hives to become an Astartes. But he had no time for this. Evander clenched his fist, and his thumb did not clasp bare flesh, but unyielding ceramite. His waist was heavy with the familiar weight of the Bolter and Chainsword.

Without pause, he made his way through the fog, confident of his destination. He sneered as the mist faded away and he saw his foes. A group of Horrors babbling to themselves in a tongue he did not dare to decipher. At least, Evander consoled himself, those fools in the Material World had not been considered worthy enough to greet a Lord of Change. Evander knew his limits, and he doubted he could have fought one on his own, even with the added strength here in this realm. Still, Tzeentch was the god his Chapter had devoted themselves to fighting ever since the Chapter Master had slain that Prince so many years past.

Tzeentch, the name revolted the Marine, but he fought it back. He knew no fear, and he would be damned if he would give in today.

"So, you are the miserable warp-spawn that would plague the galaxy today," he mocked as Evander drew close.

    "I find myself unimpressed."

The gibbering things looked curiously at the Intruder. Lord Tzeentch had told them of a way out to fresh places, but this thing was in the way. The portal to the outside realm was right there. But this being, this thing…No, it was no mere toy, this was… this was… a Space Marine. The unfamiliar words excited the group as they realized just what they faced. Howling in joy, they charged, ignoring the road out just as Evander wished.

    ---

Sergeant Alexis was quiet as the grave as a massive knife, crafted for Astartes hands punched through the throat of a sentry before twisting it outwards and his free hand engulfed the head of the other before he squeezed. He ignored the pulp now staining his hands. He'd gone too fast and would have to wait a few seconds to be on schedule but-

    DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA

The Bolter fire rang out even through the walls of the building. No doubt one of his men had run into deep trouble to rely on their bolters despite his orders. He sheathed his knife before readying his own bolter.

Well, no matter. Everyone here was meant to die anyway. As the first of the guards rushed in, he pulled his trigger and watched as they began to fall, their fragile bodies splattering the walls.

Evander looked coolly as the maddened beasts rushed him, too excited to even consider their warpfire. With flawless precision, he bisected one and pivoted before stabbing another. He was a perfect example of grace and motion. There were no wasted movements as he killed, only the flash and roar of his chainblade. After killing a few, the now cautious beasts backed up the dead Horrors split into two, leaving behind grotesque forms that began to devour each other.

"Is this all that Chaos has to offer? Behind your silver tongues, there is only weakness that will never shine?" Evander mocked, not caring if the daemons understood. "Come then, I will show you the might of Man. The Sons of Corax will carve understanding into you!"

And the beasts came in an endless tide, now taken by rage and attracting more every second. The portal was forgotten, there was only the lone Marine. Just as he wanted it.

Dreamer Evander raised his blessed Dreamcatcher, finally activating the light within. The beasts flinched before its shining power as Evander screamed "For the Dreams of Man! Taste the Emperor's fury!"

Evander charged once more into the horde as his Dreamcatcher spewed eldritch flames.

Brother Layland protected the Dreamer's physical form as best he could, though the Cultists seemed to come without end. His ammunition was plentiful, but there was the slightest chance that a lucky shot might pierce the Dreamer's form. Unacceptable. Not caring what damage he might take, he waded directly into the storm of las bolts, and laughed as they bounced off like spring rain. He was underground so he had to be careful, but the slightest attack… here.

A trio of bolt rounds shredded a plasteel beam, bringing down several tons of dirt to drown the vermin. Satisfied by the carnage, Layland made his way to the Dreamer again, now ready to wake him at any time.

    ---

The commotion Dreamer Evander had caused now attracted heavy attention. He could make out a lone Lord of Change flying down as the Horrors retreated in respect.

"Little man, little Marine, why have you come alone?"

"This world is not yours creature, and I will be damned before I let your kind set a single foot on it," Evander sneered.

"All will belong to Chaos fool, it has been planned and forseen by our great God, unlike your pitiful Corpse-Emperor."

"So you say Daemon, but I am still here," Evander replied before firing his bolter. It was useless of course, as great as he might have been, he knew his limits. Though he might have eked out a triumph in the Materium, where the beast might have been weakened, here in the heart of its power, he had no chance.

But that was alright, the lot of the Astartes was to go down fighting, and he would do his Chapter proud.

The Lord of Change shifted before grabbing hold of Evander in one hand.

"You die here and now. Nothing will save you."

Straining in the grip of the Daemon, Evander's hand grasped his chainsword. Smiling, he pulled down and the whirring teeth tore into his armor and the Daemon's fingers. Taking off three digits, Evander fell laughing as the Lord of Change screamed, ignoring his own smoking armor. If this was where he died, he would die a pure Astartes. He could ask no more.

But wait… was he? Evander's head grew light and recognized the signs. He was waking up.

"Next time Daemon, I promise you, I will see you laid low at my hands."

The Lord of Change darted forth once more, desperate to kill him, but Evander vanished just before his weapon could spear his impudent form.

    ---

Brother Layland stared as Dreamer Evander shook his head groggily.

"That was worrisome Dreamer, I was thinking the stimulants had not taken hold," he admitted.

"The Emperor protects Brother Layland. They worked just in time. We have been successful?"

"No losses on our side, and the filth below have been cleansed," he said proudly.

Evander grasped his unmarred side where he had been injured in the Empyrean, saying "To home then."

As the two rose to meet the rest of their squad, Evander thought back to the battle. Next time, he told himself, he would fulfill his promise. He would see that Daemon dead at his hands.

Gah. I go to sleep and I come back to see we've started bickering about colour schemes again?

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy: drop it.

We literally did the most extreme thing we could: we split the chapter in half. This was a compremise. We were trying to keep everyone happy. Take what you got. Don't be a jerk and keep pushing for stuff okay? We have worked out a way for everyone to be happy and it is now set in stone.

Don't like the stealth colours? Play battlegroup Primus!

Think purple and golden yellow are totally gay? Play battlegroup Secundus.

THAT'S LITERALLY WHY THE BATTLEGROUPS EXIST. It is the ONLY reason they exist. (They're pretty cool and they've been fluffed out now, but the only reason they were made was to shut everyone up about fucking colours)

Who cares? The colour scheme is difficult yes, and it's tough to get people to agree on things but it's also the most important part for the look of the chapter. If you want you can make a whole new thread for the colour scheme if you're so intent on having it away from other discussions. But if people want to keep talking about colour schemes than that means people are not satisfied with what was decided. Who are you to veto this?

Because they're carrying on an argument that was supposed to have ended. The people calling for muted colours for Battlegroup Primus are defeating the entire point of Primus, it exists FOR garish colours and hit and run tactics.

It was made to appease the people who wanted bright colours, and it meshed well with the sleep-dep. hyperactivity.

Just . . . stop trying to make them the same. I don't want to have to go through all the same bloody arguments again.

You're settling for a compromise just so you can avoid confrontation and further discussion. That's inhibiting progress. Not everyone will like the beginning drafts, but compromise is not a real solution. If you don't want to discuss it that's fine, but if people post their colour schemes don't reprimand them for it. Some people might only be just joining us, and didn't want to read the entire thread. Who knows someone might actually post a colour scheme that wows all of us, but if we shut down people for even trying then we'll never improve.

You should re-read, I'm not demanding for anything to be changed, I just don't think we should restrict ideas being put up on the board. I've also been here since the beginning, and I was a bit dissapointed when we settled for a compromise, but I didn't speak out against it. However now, that people are just posting their schemes I don't see it as a big deal. Sure the two guys arguing over whether the chapter looked gay or not, that was dumb. But if someone was just like "Hey, I think this looks cool." why not just post it down see what people think.

I'll drop it now, so we can actually discuss this chapter instead of arguing about arguing about the scheme.

Endless arguments are not progress. The colours don't matter so much that all other progress should be halted while we argue about things that have already been decided. The colours are fine, there are two battlegroups to pick from

Now can we progress, and carry on fleshing out the rest of the chapter?
    >> Anonymous 02/07/11(Mon)13:05 No.13816296
Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's perfectly fine to argue about the colors, so long as we argue intra-battlegroup. Even after the split the colors for either group are far from fixed, so what's off-limits is saying "BAWWW THAT'S NOT STEALTHY ENOUGH", but it's perfectly fine to suggest, "Hey, whatcha think of this combo for Primus? Too muted? Too bright? What?"

    Yes, I believe so.

In the meantime, let me suggest something completely different: a scheme for Secundus that combines the drab camo look of the Raptors (which I personally prefer as a genetic source over the Raven Guard itself) with some purple elements.

Is this a direction worth pursuing? Obviously it's just a quick color job, but it underlines the stealth aspect, which most Secundus suggestions drop in favor of an eye-gouging call for MOAR PURPLS.

Why is the battlegroup that specifically modifies their colour scheme based on what campaign they're involved in off limits but the shock and awe company that have bright loud colours up for debate?

    I smell bias.

Look: we can all have our varient schemes.

As for the argument of "some new people might be joining us and they get to decide too" well... no. They don't. The people who have been writing this chapter over the entire weekend already DID decide. After days of argument. Newfags can come in and say "hey sleep is boring. Lets make the Night Owls all worship Guilliman as their spiritual leige" and there can be a dozen people calling for them to love the Ultramarines but that doesn't mean they're entitled to rewrite everything that came before.

Can we PLEASE just let it go?

If you have your own unique colour scheme that's awesome. Battlegroup Secundus is fluffed for you to use it. They change their colours based on what's most appropriate for their current campaign. Your colourscheme IS VALID AND CAN BE USED WHATEVER IT IS

If you want to mute the colours of Battlegroup Primus that's weird but also fine, but it's your own personal take on it, not the official heraldry. There probably WOULD be a time when they'd mute their colours. It's deeply out of character for the battlegroup but it's not impossible. Just... for the love of god stop trying to change our established canon. Please.

Hey nice. The wiki's looking pretty good now. I dig the gallery at the bottom.

It's funny seeing peoples' personal biases for colourscheme play out in the wiki editing though. For example I don't think the muted colours for primus were actually the most accepted one. The metalic second image from DoW I think went over the best and is truest to the original intent, it's just hard to paint on a mini.

The first one is lacking the yellow for the "oneiric sand" motif and IIRC was only intended for those rare occasions when the shock and awe group ALSO wanted to be stealthy. Whatever though. It's looking pretty good.

I haven't been 'pushing' that scheme at all, I found it on the first thread as it was the first quartered scheme posted, I don't give a fuck about the shade of yellow or which way round the colours go. The stripes are probably not in the dawn of war varients because the engine doesn't allow it, whichever is better should be the scheme regardless.

Personally I prefer the more golden shade of yellow. Also, nobody likes a smartass even if you are anonymous.

I'm both the guy who started the wiki page AND the guy who did both the DoW2 scheme and the SMP one you're talking about... Mostly I did the second one the way I did because SMP doesn't have any metallics, so it was more or less a sloppy job just to outline the colors again.

Checking the wiki page for the first time since I crashed, it's looking very good. Should we put the stories up? If not on the page itself, then on their own pages and then linked on the Nightmare entry?

By all means, do add the writefaggorty. You'll notice I already snuck in the bit about "Fluidity" as part of the Solo Ability. Personally, I'm about to crash, so I'll gladly hand off updating to other anons. (Yeah yeah, I said the same hours ago, sue me for staying up for the project. However, a Sleepless I am not.)

Looks like someone went in there and fixed it up already. Thanks!

Should link the stories from another wiki page so it doesn't bloat. Also, easier to just go through a listing of stories with a short blurb, then jump over to that page for the sake of reference and whatnot.

Okay. Sorry. The guy who posted that scheme just came in later and kept trying to force it around and take credit for the whole thing. It was kinda awkward. I thought he'd come back and you were him. Apologies. Especially since the original poster spelled out that it wasn't what they had in mind at all. IIRC we tried to accomidate him anyway by saying that the striped bracelets etc could be honour markings.

Sure the DoW engine can't make the stripes, but if those people had been intending to use that garish scheme at all they would've had the colours on opposite shoulders y'know?

And I agree that the golden shade of yellow looks awesome. It's what I prefer too if that wasn't obvious.

wiki is looking almost perfect guys. Keep up the great work.

It's a huge story and perhaps would take up too much space, but can we toss up that huge story from the Sleepless marine's point of view in the fluff section maybe?

That story was badass as all fuck and cements our death company as being infinitely cooler than those pussy Blood Angels.

    HEY.
    HEY GUYS.
    I JUST REALIZED.
    THE EMPEROR.
    HE'S ASLEEP.
    HE WAS THE FIRST DREAMER.
The Emperor's Nightmares revere him as protecting humanity from his deep slumber. They believe that by fighting along side him in their own sleep that they are aiding him more greatly than they ever could in the material world. That's why the sleepless are so depressed and angry (well, that, and no sleep tends to loosen the bolts up there a bit).
Maybe some kind of Emps icon with a Z overhead could be used in some of their banners to reflect their belief that the Emperor is a sleeping guardian? It might reflect why they think so highly of their colors - they are doing the only thing to help Him, something that no other chapter could do.
Tempus Somnit - Time Sleeps seems to me like it might be a good catechism. I dunno.

Holy derp. How have we overlooked this? Awesome.

There was one fellow earlier who had some cool ideas about honouring the Emperor and lighthouses and stuff, but somehow "the emperor is the first dreamer" was never proposed by anyone IIRC

This is great and fits nicely with the rest of the chapter's dogma.

Let's see if my post goes through this time--
I just updated the 1d4chan page with the stories on their own links. I gave them their own titles just as placeholders. If the authors/masses don't like the names, then feel free to change 'em.
