    Sup /tg/, God here.

I know you all play Real Life, so I thought I'd come here and ask if you have any feedback on the current edition of Real Life, and any suggestions for the upcoming next edition.

What's up with the latest 'Economy Arc'? All my characters are constantly fucked for money. I mean, now that you put that stupid 'Money = Power' stuff in, it's almost impossible to have a meaningful character anymore.

Character Creation really needs to be points-by as default. It'll help keep things fair and characters balanced. No-one wants to play an underpowered character for eighty years straight.

    >> Anonymous 01/30/11(Sun)21:29 No.13722835
Man, that would totally fuck up the balance. We've built so much of the metagame around avoiding it.

There are entire in-game industries dedicated to removing certain characters.

Can you C/D the rumors that you're going to be closing the server soon? They've been saying it pretty much since the beginning, but I'd still like an official word.

I'd really like some fair character generation. I mean, you roll the stats and it's a crapshoot. It's like 90% of the time if you aren't rolling lucky on just your starting location the game almost isn't worth playing. Yeah, you have a huge game world, but only small parts of it are worth a damn.

Character creation is random and ability is highly influenced on lineage and location. About as unbalanced as possible as though it was meant that way. Had to reroll several times before I landed outside of India.

Speaking of grind, you give us so many options up front, but you don't give us any kind of idea what might be useful. Most everyone I know gets to level 20 and just fucking screwed because we've tried to balance ourselves and we realize that now that things open up we should have specialized like crazy. While I suppose the system works, I feel it's been milked dry.

My biggest issue lies in the plot hooks, it's just feels to me you have to completely min/max your entire character to even pick up on most of the basic ones.

And let's not even get started on class balance.

I'm curious as to how I can sign up for any up and coming closed betas you may be starting that use a similar system, but hopefully geared towards a more general audience and not those looking to crunch stats and nothing else.

A last word, please rework the money system, it's too difficult to set up a meaningful amount (or enough to get by depending on class traits), and it feels almost pointless to even have once you've acquired past a certain point.

Just my thoughts, truly I was happier before the last major update anyhow so take it for what it's worth.

Write better fluff for the Americans. In earlier editions, they were a world-conquering race of warrior-philosophers and now they're just mustache-twirling bad guys motivated by a boring, generic religion.
I thought you'd learned your lesson when you lost 6,000,000 players doing practically the same thing.

I hate being the guy asking for things to be simpler, but this is getting overwhelming. I spend so much time on my class, and getting money, and leveling up, and trying to stay alive, and get loots, and what not only to find out that my entire blood stream is infected because I forgot to brush my teeth. I mean there's micromanagement and then there's this!

It would be nice if you could add some NPCs to alter the looks of our avatars. I'm not quite happy with what I picked now, but all you can find are other players that learned some pathetic hacks.

I'm not really comfortable with hacks, and it's really hard to find a good one anyway. One bad one and you can fuck yourself.
    >> Anonymous 01/30/11(Sun)21:43 No.13723025

This. Game is too micro heavy, and the objectives are obscured by three and four degrees to the actual players. Implementation of a questing system that's worth a damn and some simple character automation would go a long way toward making this more playable. And while I dig minimalism, no HUD at all makes inventory management impossible.

I've got a bitching on how incredibly hard it is to pick up the 'doctor' profession since the past few patches. It used to be take a couple of science skills here, some human interactions skills there, and you're good to go.

Now, I've got to grind for 8(!) levels just to get out as a member of the class, and not as some kind of rookie - and then I'm looking at constantly doing raids and quests to keep my abilities up.

All of this for the healer? Really? Like, one of the most essential units in the game? And the gold isn't worth the fucking shit we have to put up with, because most of said gold is spent paying back the massive debts we get from the skill-tutors.

No dude, he knows about that shit -- that's the "removing penalties" he mentioned.
But there's a lot that goes into social skills besides that, and most of it is all but impossible to improve. And the worst part is, it's a vicious cycle -- if you have low social skills to start with, you're much more likely to acquire penalties as a consequence of failed social encounters, especially in the lower levels. The Low Self-Esteem affliction is a particularly nasty one -- it's a really common penalty for failed social encounters in the lower levels, the save DC is absurdly high, and it's damn near impossible to get rid of for good.

I can't! There's no more Charisma Penalty Negators in my class list, and I don't qualify to multiclass in the classes that do have any more. Not that it would matter because you only get one Stat Boost and you have to roll randomly for it during character generation.

Dude, one more time, that only negates penalties. You can't gain a bonus unless you effectively "negate" over ten points of Penalties, and even then, it's only a +1 bonus to some Skill checks, not a Charisma boost.

    >> Anonymous 01/30/11(Sun)22:29 No.13723659
The difference is that training Cha-based skills carries a pretty serious risk of some nasty penalties on a failed check, which you don't get with other skills. You want to grind your Basketball skill? You practice, not too big a deal. Eats up time, sure, but there aren't many penalties except on a crit fail, and even a failed attempt can still be fun to attempt.
You want to grind your Cha-based skills? Every failed check reduces your Esteem rating with a person, often by a large margin. By the time you manage to get even a little bit of improvement, you've ruined your reputation with dozens of NPCs and PCs alike, and generally had a pretty damn miserable time.
And Cha is one of the most widely applicable stats in the game. The system is all kinds of fucked up.

The world is large, there are a lot of people in it. If you go talk to the gas station attendant and make a flub? it doesn't ruin your life. She'll forget it in 10 minutes, and a normal person would too. You sit there agonizing about it, thinking she's telling everyone you have a small penis.

Basketball players practice in games that don't matter. Charismatic people practice with people that don't matter. Go to a mall. Go tell a girl she's got a cute sweater.
Wether you succeeded or failed (like you're telling yourself you will right now, because even the very idea of success is too insane for you to consider as you gorge yourself on the fat teat of defeatism), IT DOESN'T FUCKING AFFECT YOUR LIFE. If you fuck up royal, like slip and yank her shirt off while throwing a coke into someone's face? She'll forget it in a few *days*. YOU will probably go kill yourself at that point. So either way, net win for the world, you either get better at socializing and stop acting like a faggot, or you kill yourself and stop this pathetic snivelling.

Actually, a lot of INT, WIS, and in some (rarer) cases STR based classes exist. Admittedly, INT classes take longer to get cash, but they keep the flow, it's much less varied. STR is very, very hard to do, but one of the most satisfying in-game.

    >> Anonymous 01/30/11(Sun)23:08 No.13724161
Yeah, but you don't grind up WIS first! Even Jesus knew that; he grinded STR and a bit of INT early game. It was only near level 30 did he dump all his points into WIS and become completely broken.
    >> Anonymous 01/30/11(Sun)23:09 No.13724167
I think you've found the main issue. People are trying to hard to up their CHA stats, thinking that CHA buffs are the way to go. While an increased CHA does have solid short-term gains, it becomes harder to maintain at the higher levels. Only a few players have really been able to keep it going (Like Shwn_Konnry and M-Freedman).

WIS, on the other hand, has more in the way of long-term rewards, which become easier in the mid-late levels. You can spec for WIS early on, but it increases the chance that you'll draw aggro from Bully and other PVP classes. The advantage is that it opens up new quests, or at least new endings to existing quests. It also makes it easier to build the Content buff.

Just be careful, the Content buff tends to piss people off that don't have it because they aren't spec'd for getting it, even though they're trying to grind for it.

Charisma is very easy to "fake." With the right feats and skills you can basically use the combination of int and wis to do anything cha can, with only slightly diminished effectiveness.
It's true that charisma-based characters are easy mode, but an int/wis character can do everything they can--most just don't think to use it in that way.

Dude, are you kidding? Low-level characters almost have more viable class choices than high-level ones.

Jocks, Preps, Nerds, Goths, Gangstas...all fun classes to play, and each one can lead to a higher-level prestige class if you get good enough at it:

Jock can upgrade to Sportsman or Soldier
Prep can upgrade to Business or Lawyer
Nerd can upgrade to Doctor or Engineer
Goth can upgrade to Artist or Criminal
Gangsta can upgrade to Criminal or Soldier

The lower levels also have a lot less micro as many of the more tedious functions are automated at that point. Really, I'd like to go back and play through the lower levels again.

Yes, it requires more grinding than a cha character. That's just something you have to deal with--high charisma gives you bonuses to social interaction right away, intelligence just makes it easier for you to level the skills.
But that's the thing that's so broken about intelligence--it benefits literally every skill in the game.

Not true. I was reading his quest log. When he was starting out, he and a few others working on the same quest got a choice. "Sell or License". Everyone else went for "Sell" but they set their price too high because they wanted short-term rewards. 13i11_G chose "License" which, while not as rewarding up front, created a steady flow of gold and locked the quest for other players for a long time.

Also, stabbing his guild in the back has no bearing. He got so powerful, just on INT/WIS that the North America mods broke his guild up into several smaller guilds to help out the balance of power.

They are completely useless until at least level 8, which feels like the distant future. I'll be level 31 by then, that's the best levels of the game solely focused on getting my party up to scratch.

Seriously! I appreciate the latest efforts - the last few decades or so saw a drastic decrease on the overall ratio of players stuck in Poverty status, but two thirds of the player base's still stuck in some of the shittiest grindzones ever designed - low xp, shit mission payouts, a severe lack of decent class trainers, and the Disease problems from /hundreds of expansions ago/ are still prevalent and rampant in some spots. And you spawn more new players in these zones than in the comparatively easy Western Monoculture blocs! What the hell?!

It's almost like the game map was procedurally generated from a bunch of obscure rules, and nobody came around afterward to edit the results. Great for simulators, maybe, but for an massively-multiplayer RPG? Try harder, dammit - it's an expensive subscription you're charging us players.

My main problem with Real Life is all the conflicting editions and their backstories. I mean, there is nothing wrong with Christian: The Conversion or Muslim: The Madness, mechanically; but the inconsistant backstories just lead to stupid editions wars. Hell, you just released Athiest: The Reasoning which completely condtradicts everything.

    Every. Fucking. Thing.

Also, the magic system is borked. I knew a girl who completely min/max for a witch with the hopes of dishing out some crazy ass magic like in the earlier iterations. Now though, a level 30 priest of Jehovah doesn't stand a chance against a low level NPC with a slingshot.
