Walker pulled Fierstrom into the room – as gently as he could.
“You,” he said, pointing to the two soldiers sitting there. “Stand up. And you,” he said pointing to Corporal Adams. “Take us to Corporal Found. Now.”
“What? Ah, um, understood sir, this way.”
Half-pulling and half-carrying Fierstrom, Walker wasn’t the only one having difficulty. Geist too, had to support the crying Lost.
Entering the room, silent save for the rhythmic beeping of Found’s heart monitor, Walker swore under his breath. She was there, all right; it wasn’t his imagination. She was there, at that moment, with him, Domino, and Abaddon in Psi Comm. Was the strain too much for her? Maybe. However, the black lump replacing her eye didn’t fit that prognosis. Something must have happened. What it was, he didn’t know, but his gut feeling told him it was something in the mind, and it was something traditional medicine wouldn’t work on.
Walker brought Fierstrom to a chair, and motioned for her to sit.
“Just sit here and watch, ma’am. I need to take care of something.”
“You, nurse. Am I correct to assume that Corporal Found here has been in a coma with fluctuating brain waves or something like that since the aftermath of the fight?”
“Um, yes sir, how I assume you read the-”
“And am I to assume that as of now, you haven’t been able to do anything to fix her?”
“Yes Colonel, that is-”
“Alright, you two. Up here. I never thought I would ever say this, but we’re doing your mind jump thing into Double-Mint here.”
>And I'll leave this here for tomorrow. You need to be more careful around Walker, lest he figures out you two have been dating. |
