    Hmph.

Well, there's the catch: I know the end of the story, but not the middle. Somehow you managed to make your way past the cameras in the main hall, through the crowded barracks, and up The Cage completely undetected. And along the way, you made your tools and our friend Bernard disappear completely.

That's quite the magic trick. So let's start at the beginning. What happened when you entered the main hall of the basement?
    >> Anonymous 01/15/11(Sat)01:18 No.13525992
    >>13525912
Well, its simple, really. You ever check to see how big those sewer pipes of yours are?

This also ties in to why you had to send me through a decontamination chamber three times.

    what happened?

well, I found all those canisters.. thought you were real clever filing off the serial numbers, didn't you?

And I could have sworn you knew better then to use those C-81 cameras. Don't you know they get.. glitchy.. when properly coaxed? and who would know more about that then.. *point thumbs at self*

But i never touched your men. They were snoring when i got there. Must be another one of those.. Magic Tricks. *wiggle fingers dramatically* Must have been a ghost? or maybe.. hah.. "our friend" was not who we expected?

An interesting plan, but one which doesn't account for the fact that our facility lacks large, meaningless manholes for people to enter. And, of course, the fact that you were dry and didn't smell worse than usual when we found you.

    Try again.

Whose to say that I didn't have an acetylene torch in my toolkit, eh? You know me, best place for a "turd" to go is home.

And besides, that's what I was like when YOU found me. Your guards didn't tell you about the steam treatment they gave me? They should be commended, that was very invigorating. Bit scalding perhaps, but I'm not one to complain.

Well now I'm just embarrassed. I thought we took all necessary precautions.

So you induced a loop in the video, probably while you were still at the breaker upstairs. And you vaporized a canister of M99 in barracks so they wouldn't wake up as the motion-lights came on. You walked up to The Cage, and were caught before you could enter.

Which only leaves a few burning questions left: where is Bernard? Your story doesn't make sense, don't just disappear. And more importantly: what were you going to do when you entered The Cage?

but The Cage? i was never going to enter it, perish the thought.

Might be that I knew your men were right behind me.
Might be I found somewhere to hide my tools.. and a few more things.

*long pause, twisting wrist to see watch*

Might be too late for someone to stop what i have put into motion.. I warned you from the beginning about playing god.

*look at watch again, then hunch shoulders and close eyes like i was expecting something big to happen*

    Hi there, I'm OP.

What you just witnessed was a vaguely successful experiment in spur-of-the-moment storytelling. Using only a bunch of saved images from Andy Warhol's "Screen Test" films, and a sort of prompt involving the protagonist being interrogated, I hoped to form a kind of push-and-pull relationship with the story. I'm not sure that it turned out as well as I planned, but it was alright, I think, yeah?

This was heavily inspired by Spider and Web, an interactive fiction game by Andrew Plotkin, so check it out if you're interested.
