    1.12 MB ZEONQUEST Pt 56 I apologised on 4chan !!O1JS15Z6lxy 04/23/10(Fri)12:00 No.9377939
To recap, you are David Lister Lieutenant Commander for the Principality of Zeon, and currently trying to take down the Trojan Horse.

Over the past 7 or so months, you've been fighting across the Americas, in places such as Salina Cruz, Chihuahua, Truth and Consequences and Edmonton, and boy you sure put those places on the map! ...mostly as man-made lakes.

When we last left you, you had proposed making use of your newly obtained beam rifle to take down the blasted Trojan horse.
After a late night brainstorming session you went to bed with various ideas including MS scale foxholes, tarps and using train carriages as skateboards.

Perhaps, but they wouldn't get out and it would require one of the best pilots avaliable to get in past all those defenses. Add in the Gundam and what you have there is a genuine suicide mission and as much as I am all for suicide missions, thats only when they have a Frenchman to assist them. Still, the plan we have now is foolhardy enough, suprised anyone went for it really. Its not a very good plan.

In any case, come the next morning, after breakfast you meet with Char and Garma in the CnC room.

You try to discuss the best way to draw the White Base into an area of your choosing.

"We could attempt to force the issue with a full attack." Garma suggests.

"We charge in with the Gaw, try to get into it's rear arc where the beam weapons cant reach and strike it down with our own?"

Char thinks on this as well.

"It's risky, if the Gaw wanders into the Trojan Horses front arc, it's heavy firepower will quickly sink the Gaw. It would be a real all or nothing assault."

To your left a military aide adresses Garma and hands him the latest weather report. He reads it and then frowns.

"Blast! This could not come at a worse time!" He hands you the report.

It seems that a heavy dust storm is coming in from the south. It will be here by three in the afternoon at the latest. With the heavy minovsky particle density floating about, it's a sure bet that the Trojan Horse will be able to make it's escape when the storm hits.

    YOUR ORDERS?

Assemble a strike team of MS's on dodais to fly alongside White base under heavy minovsky interference and passive radar. Breach and board the White base, liquidate any crew that offer resistance and have the Gaw fleet for backup. Capturing White base and Amuro would be a major blow to the feddies.

Lets press the assault, hit it with everything we've got in the most timely fashion we can. We have all the pieces in order for this to work out, we just need to create the oppertunity to do so. While taking White Base out of the picture would not be a big millitary victory, it would be a massive propaganda one.

Also, tracking them inside the Duststorm will be next to impossible, flying at all without sight or radar is a risky proposition as well.

Seriously, the best bet is to either lead them over an area (maybe with light assaults to direct them or a fake distress signal) and have units hiding with the biggest guns we got. Once they pass over, fire at the engines, we miss? oh well, get the fuck out though the dust storm. We hit? yay disabled white base

    >massive, visibility destroying dust storm

This might just be to our advantage. Getting good cover was the weakest point of most of our planning last time.

Getting in close to whitebase isn't too much of a problem, especially is we mob them with a number of mobile suits at once. If we strip the good parts from our last plan, we can use most of our suits on dodais as a distraction while the act slips around and slags the engines with our snazzy new beam rifle. The gundam will likely be pissed as hell by this, but with the proper timing to the attack we can just slip away into the inclement weather.

And we decided last time, frontal assaults on whitebase (and the gundam in particular) are ALWAYS A BAD IDEA. If Amruo feels backed into a corner, we're going to start losing people FAST. A surgical in-and-out job is the best plan, no matter what the details turn out to be. We get in, hit the engines to immobilize whitebase, and then come back after the storm clears with massive artillery and wipe them out at range. Or night raid them with ground troops. Or something.

I've got it. Get whatever feddy equipment we have in storage. Type 61s, mobile suits, whatever, painted in feddy colours, broken up a bit. Make it look like a real horror show and set up a feddy distress beacon, while our suits hide in wreckage and tarps. I like this idea, but I'm not sure if we have the time. Whit base escaping into the storm seems like a very happening today kind of thing, and getting together a bunch of captured mobile-scraps might take a while.

And to be the devil's advocate here, if they get away in the storm, is that really that bad a thing? Sure, the gundam is dangerous, but it's only one suit. It's most effective if we feed it aces one at a time. Let's just not do that.
And the white base is a nasty ship, but it's not like it's unique or anything. There will be more of them.
And Amuro's not even our rival. Let's let Char deal with hunting the gundam down, we've got a vendetta with a one armed man to peruse.

When in doubt follow the original plan, which was to lead the Feddies into a trap by feinting with some form of assault into the ambush area. Once there we blast it for all we've got, right into its engines, at which point we disengage. Now we are on a timer, its a simple fix to say we now launch our ambush for close to when the dust storm hits, which will help us with disengaging our troops.

Still no idea on what we use to lure White Base, but thats a minor matter.

Char leads an assault squad against white base, we put our Act Zaku on a dodai and hide in the dust storm.

When Char attacks, White Base will haul ass for the cover of the dust storm, because you don't fuck with the Red Comet. Just when the Feddies are on the brink of the warm, safe embrace of the dust cloud . . . SUDDENLY, BEAM RIFLES EVERYWHERE

Char and some of our wingmen form the distraction team. They get whitebase and the gundam's attention. The rest of our guys look after Garma. Distraction-team and Garma-team then play keep away with the whitebases suits while we slip in from behind with the beam rifle.

    >>9378406
Luring whitebase is good, as we get the element of surprise for lining up out alpha-strike. But the only gun worth really considering in that is the beam rifle, and there's a lot of surprise there already as they don't know that we have it. Just whipping out something that overpowered is ambush enough. Remember what happened when we got one of those pulled on us the first time?

There will be a moment just before the storm strikes.

I suggest we sortie 30 minutes before the White Base hits the Storm.

It will allow us to hit it hard with EVERYTHING we got with minimum exposure time to the Trojan Horse, and its defenses.

The best way to actually capture the gundam would be to disable whitebase. Once the boat is grounded, we can slip a few commando teams on board during the dark of night and take the whole thing. I'm sure Mr Incognito would be up for some metal-gear zeon raiding action. But launching a combat operation to capture an active gundam is a bit beyond our ability at this point.

Jol has the most command experience out of the rest of our team. I'd almost feel more comfortable with her in the decoy raid. The people flanking need need to be able to...

What does the rest of the ambush team need to do? If the gundam comes after us, we run, and they can't really makes us go faster. And they don't have any beam weapons, so it's not like they can help us kill the engines any more. Non-beam weapons will dent them, but to do significant damage you'd likely need more time than we are allowed. Ideally, the ambush attack should be less than a minute from start to end, or however long it takes us to empty the rifle's clip.

And where is Garma going to be in all this? The more people we have available to cover him, the better.

In his Gaw, far far away from anything remotely Feddie.

when the white base goes down after we nuke it's engines, Garma can come in with the Gaw, stay in White Base's rear arc, and beam cannon White Base straight to fucking hell with impunity.

Okay, so a Full Frontal attack will be lead by Char... wait, why did I capitalise that?
Uh, nevermind, anyhow, your squad of Elaine, Zolomon and Bernie will be backing his team up with their own forces (on Dodais? The Gigan can't ride Dodais so you might want to swap his MS around if so)
Meanwhile you and Jolyne will be getting in place, possibly using Dodai's as dragoons and then sniping the engine blocks of the White Base. Immobilising it.

Sounds good? Any changes you'd want to make?

two Zaku's on Dodais, 3 wings of Dopp Fighters, a couple of Lugguns for battlefield control and recon (they'll be working alongside Calvin in his Flipper) the Gaw, and possibly a couple of squads of Magellans if they can get close enough in time.

Tell EVERYONE to keep an eye on Garma. If we weren't all flying zaku-decedents I'd tell everyone to keep two eyes on Garma. Just being there with guns is enough of a distraction. Their objective is to make sure that Garma doesn't take a torso hit from a gun-anything, and to not get killed while they're doing that.

I'd say the ambush should go in, and hopefully out, on dodais. It just gives them that much more maneuverability to work with.

I think we should keep them with the Support unit. Don't want to loose our big guns here in this storm.

And why did Zeon not use any fed planes anyway? Must be tons of them around on earth, plus the production facilites and the people working in them are probably already set up too.

Gotta ask the other dude for that new plane next chance we get.

Your forces finish their final pre-flight checks and are in the air a little bit after 11.
Current weather reports put the incoming dust storm about 2 hours out.
You begin moving towards the Trojan Horse and enter it's flight zone by midday. From there you patrol around, keeping your distance, but making sure that the ship is close enough for you to mount your attack.

Seeing you close by, the Trojan Horse sticks to the low and mountainous terrain, it will make air attacks difficult, but it will also make it easier for you to move in front of it and take a sniping position without being spotted.
The ship has since changed direction again, and is now heading north east.

After about two hours of tense shadowing, you can see the dust cload on your sensors, and the order to attack is given.

The Rhino isn't in that bad of a spot. Shelling is Kryptonite to the White Base, and as long as he can get its position, its just standard dump-big-rounds on target that Hovis has been doing since time immemorial. We've got 3 Lugguns and Calvin to assist in spotting for him, so I think he's in pretty good shape.

The decoy force surges ahead, the Mobile Suits in front, flanked by Dopps, with the looming purple bulk of the Gaw begind it.
The Gaw has yet to drop the Rhinoceros. Probably waiting to see if the Trojan Horse is going to stand and fight or retreat away.

Calvin takes upward at a safe distance and begins linking in laser contact with you and the other squad leaders as he starts collected targeting telemetry.

Now, to get into firing position.

Pull a Trojan Horse. Move close to the ground, through canyons, etc. Once we've established what the WB is going to do we should maneuver ahead of them accordingly. Also, the moment the Horse makes its decision, get Hovis, and more importantly Hovis' BFG into the mix. Once shells start punishing the WB, they'll be way less likely to see the Ambush.

Letting Jolyne take the lead you swoop down low out of sight from the enemy. Above you, the first exchanges of fire begins as the Trojan Horse begins to turn to face the attacking force.

"This is Goddard. I'm deploying now, Chutes read as green."

You follow Jolyne down as she jumps off her dodai and sets up on a rocky ridge.
You follow suit and set up your range finder and sniping zoom. You see the front carrier bays open up and the Guntank and Guncannon jump out, no sign of the Gundam, could this be your big chance?

From this distance you are unsure if you can hit the target, but it's not impossible.

    DO YOU TAKE THE SHOT

Somewhat towards you, it's heading towards the decoy force who are in front of you by about a kilometer thereabouts. So it;s currently facing you at an angle. The engine block is partially obscured by the armoured cowlings of the beam cannons. Which it hasn't unfurled yet. It's probably waiting for the Gaw to get closer before it does so.

It will continue to get closer until it's essentially facing you abeam, which will be a near perfect shot. However, that may take a while.

    You wait.

You see the Guntank and Guncannon open fire on the attacking forces whilst standing atop the Trojan Horse. Their weapon fire takes it's toll with the Dopps, but it looks like they can't deal with the great weight fire your forces can bring.
You see one of Char's wingmen have his Dodai get shot out from under him by the Guntank, he attempts a LANO landing but falls awkwardly and stumbles on landing, his leg gives way and he's obscured by a plume of dust, you can't see what happens afterwards.

You see Char and Garma strafe down one side together, AA fire bracketing their mobile suits with Elaine and Zolomon down the other side. Both rake the sides with fire, but don't have time to linger and make it count. Elaine's Dodai begins smoking, but it's still flying.

The shot is still awkward, but a little less than before.

You reangle yourself as you try to take a second shot. The dust clouds are beginning to come in now however, and the engine is still billowing black smoke making targeting difficult. The Trojan horse is also still moving around.

You can take further shots if you want, but shots on the engine block are going to be tricky. So you aim and the heavy Beam Cannon turret on your side.

The ship appears to be launching chaff. You move to pull the trigger, when a beam shot lances out from the hangar bay and flash of white dashes out of the opening. You see Garma's Efreet swerve to the left, it's left hand dissolving into superheated metal.
Char is nowhere to be seen.
The Gaw is pulling up and over the Trojan Horse in order to avoid a collision, you can hear it's engines screaming from here.

My vote is for just emptying the goddamn beam rifle into White Base.

Beam shots will punch a hole most of the way through it. It doesn't matter if we hit the engines specifically at this point. So long as we can get ten, fifteen shots into it (which'd take all of twenty seconds), we'd almost certainly be doing enough damage to bring it down or render it combat ineffective. Either way, it harms it's effectiveness, and the threat it represents, a great deal.

Take a second shot at the Engine blocks to make sure. Your shot seems to get within a certain distance and then seems to hit an invisible wall of some kind, small explosions ablate the power of the beam until it disperses into the smoke cloud.
You can't see if it's on target, or even if it's done any damage.

The Gundam begins firing it's Beam Rifle at the apex of it's jump, the Dopps and Char's other wingman are taken down. He fires a shot at Elaine but she dives down to the ground and the shot impact with the same anti-beam field that stopped your beam.

He Zaku is halo's with small explosions and she comes out singed but otherwise okay.

As the Gundam begins to fall back to the Trojan Horse, Zolomon leaps in to engage it in close combat. The gundam avoids his heat rod and returns fire with his head vulcans. Zolomon flips the flat base of his Dodai up, and uses it as a shield. It takes the low caliber bullets and Zolomon then leaps off as the Gundam finishes it off with it's beam saber.
The two tumble about in the air.

Zolomon fires with his gatling and the Gundam returns fire with his beam rifle. Both avoid each others shots, until the beam rifle clips Zolomons gatling shield and he's forced to eject it before it explodes. Using the extra boost from the explosion Zol hurls his heat hawks at the enemy, who dodges one, but takes the other on the left arm, which spins him over and he lands awkwardly on the deck of the Trojan Horse, his rifle scattering.

We might get lucky. The wind's gotta be picking up with the storm coming on, and a gaw pulling a near miss right overhead is going to leave some nasty turbulence. Either of these could help disperse any chaff its already dropped. And if we can make ourselves seem more threatening, the gundam is more likely to try and take a shot at us than our retreating friends.

All the more reason to be airborne and dodging right now. The gundam will have a hard time getting a reliable shot at this range on something our size is we can keep moving.

Really, we should fly out and pick up who we can and signal for a withdrawl. We don't need to see where it is to shoot it with the artillery, its engine is damaged, it won't be going far if anywhere at all. It has its anti-beamspam chaff out, so we're down to conventional weapons. Shoot White Base with those.

You mount back up on Dodai's and close the distance. The Gundam is still flat on the deck, but it is moving. The Guncannon has stopped the fallen Beam Rifle from falling off the ship and is now dual wielding, you're unsure if it can handle the energy requirments.

Zolomon is unable to land on the White Base and makes a sucessfull LANO landing on the ground. Elaine has unfortunately crash landed her Dodai and is ground pounding as well.
The Guntank has ceased it's artillery duel with the Rhino and is now concentrating on you.

The white base is still moving erratically, but firing energetically from all corners. Aside from your hit to the engines, it's smoking from large rents in several other places as well.

The dust storm will be here soon. Dodai riders are already being ordered to pull away by Garma, who has retreated back onto the Gaw.

You ignore this and head on inwards and both you and Jolyne fire again at the Trojan horse, doing your best to avoid the Guntanks fire.
You swing around to the front and your shot avoids the chaff and slices a neat hole through the left hangar bay. Jolyne's fire impacts against the side. You see unguided rockets fall out from an emergency jettison port underneath, they explode in mid-air impressively.

The dust storm is coming in, visibility is now reduced.

Get a couple more shots and then retreat.

You continue to move in, seeing you, the Guncannon begins firing at you as well. Purple lances stab out at you and both swerve to avoid. It's impressive firepower, but his shot's don't have the accuracy of the Gundam's pilot. You return fire, and your shot flies true, but at the last moment the Gundam next to the Guncannon pushes it out of the way and your shout gouges yet another hole in the Trojan Horse.
Jolynes shot goes wide as her Dodai flutters unstably about, it's engines momentarily stall before restarting.

"Lieutenant Commander! I've got warning light from my Dodai! I don't think they can handle this dust!" Jolyne calls to you over crackly radio.
Your Dodai is also showing warning lights, and the dust is making it hard to make the enemy out anyway, so you make to the Gaws radio signal, it should still have room for you.

"Uh, can anyone else see that directly above us?" You ask.

"See wha-HOLY FUCK" Jolyne supplies handily encouraging you that no you are not tripping balls.

"Can I get confirmation on the Trojan Horses location?" You ask.

"We lost contact 20 seconds ago, but we've now got basic visual contact with the bogey! We're bugging out, get a couple of hits if you can!"

    "Roger!"

The Gaw surges ahead and both you and Jolyne aim. Jolynes Bazooka shot impacts against what looks to be a slightly different model of carrier to the Trojan as the light from the blast illuminates it.

You pull the trigger on your beam rifle only to have the computer send up a great big INSUFFICIENT AMMO, INSUFFICIENT ENERGY warnings.
You recheck the weapon, you remove and reattatch the beam magazine, this deals with the Insufficient Ammo warning, but not the Insufficient energy.
You swap hands, that deals with it.
By this point however you've moved to far away and have lost sight of the enemy, you fire at the general direction and are rewarded with the sight of your beam shot slicing off a radar spike above the bridge section.

    And then you're gone.

"Sir, was that a SECOND Trojan Horse?" Jolyne asks you.

"Fuck, it probably was wasn't it? Looks like Jaburo's been busy since we visited."

The Thoroughbred first saw service when it was launched from Jaburo in November of UC 0079. Assigned to the 16th Autonomous Corps it was launched as one of 4 decoy ships in order to guard the rear of the Earth Federation Forces main fleet. To accomplish this, the Thoroughbred was given two Gundams piloted by ace pilots Ford Romfellow and veteran Lusse Kessel.

    OMAKE

The dust obscured everything, but Amuro could just make out the registration details of the other ship as it pulled alongside: MSC-06/LMSD-77 Stallion.
It then extended a docking tube, normally the sort of thing you'd only see used in space.
"Heh, looks like their commanding officer is a real delicate type huh Amuro?" Kai jibed beside him.
"If he's bringing us more supplies, he can be as delicate as he likes" Frau stated.

The tube connected with the White Bases docking port and after about minute the door opened to reveal Matilda Ajan.

    Kai whistled.

Bright saluted, her and they exchanged greetings.
"It's good to see a friendly face, we've been wandering about Zeon territory for a while now. Are you here to resupply us?"

Matilda nodded. "Yes, I'm here under orders of General Revil to take your non-combatants, and to also supply you with replacement parts and repair equipment, but out here in the middle of a dust storm isn't the best place for repair work, can the White Base still move?"

"We've taken heavy damage, but we still have mobility."

"Good, we'll transfer the refugees and begin moving onto a better spot for repair work."

"Roger! I must say though, it's suprising to see another Lieutenant in command of a Pegasus class ship."

    She blushes.

"I'm only the acting Captain, Captain Synapse was taken ill with food poisoning yesterday, but he's expected to make a full recovery..."

"Well Kai... when you're right, you're right." Amuro states.

You suggest that it would be best to land and to wait the dust storm out. The Gaw moves off it's flight path and begins to descend, at a reasonably height you, Jolyne all jump off the plane and make your landing. Making a blind air drop is a trickier maneouver than you thought, and although your landing is a little heavy, you're suit takes it without trouble.

If anything it reminds you of your first landing at the start of the war. Jolyne lands successfully next to you and you begin trying to trace back to the Gaw.

The radar signal is spotty due to minovsky particles, but after about 10 minutes of walking you manage to find the shallow gouge that the Gaw must have made whilst landing, and follow that for about kilomoeter to catch up with the landed Gaw. It seems a little worse for wear, but otherwise in one piece.
Char's Zaku is already outside, and the techs are inviting your suits inwards so that they can get checked out.

You send them in, taking the oppourtunity to get some food as you dismount. You are met with Captain Garma who is also working on his Efreet.

Seriously though, from the anime I can tell you that the GAW has extremely high-aspect wings( tall, very wide wingspan, but relatively short from leading to trailing edge). Which means it generates massive lift at low speeds.

However, given the size and weight of the fuselage, it probably has the glide ratio of a rock tied to a paper airplane. All I am saying is that if the engines all suddenly gave out, the thing would still be capable of a crash landing. It wouldn't be insta-GAWs fall, everyone dies.

"Unimaginable, a second Trojan Horse." He says at length.
    You agree with him.
"It's hard to believe, especially after the damage we inflicted on Jaburo's ship building capacties."

"Clearly David we have entered a critical point in the war now. I think it's time to start preparing for a second attack on Jaburo."

"Well need a new ruse to get inside. They're going to be prepared fro drilling units by now."

"Well David if you think of anything, my door is always open."

You see the techs attempting to canabalise a spare Zaku arm onto Garma's Efreet. You grab a loudhailer.

"THAT'S NOT GOING TO WORK. THE EFREET HAS A DIFFERENT POWER REGULATION NETWORK THAN A ZAKU!" You turn to Garma.

    "Do you mind?" you ask.

    "Please."

You move forward and begin refitting various spare parts into a replacement arm.

Whilst you work on the arm, the tech who are working on your suit come up to see you.

"We worked out what went wrong with the Beam rifle. Basically, you got dust in the connectors between the rifle and the magazine, and dust between the power linkages in your Act Zaku's hands and the rifle."

    "Dust?" You ask incredulously.

"It's EVERYWHERE at the moment, and don;t forget that your Act Zaku has received only minimal refits for ground combat. Anyway, we've added some basic dust guards so you shouldn't get that problem again. Not that we should be seeing much action at the moment."

You finish up and watch as they fit the arm into the Efreet. Luckily it works.

"I must say, you've really gotten better at engineering David." Garma compliments.

"Well, I've been working with a lot of prototypes, so I've just sort of picked this stuff up as I go. Plus I was the test pilot for th Efreet back on Pezun, so I've taken a look at it's specs."

"Well, according to weather reports, this dust storm is heading North East East, but wont be gone for at least three more hours. Any ideas on what we should do until then?" He asks you.

You discuss mixed unit doctrine with him over a late lunch. He agrees with you and presents some of his findings after using some of your suggestions.
He's finding that infantry is highly useful, but due to Zeons manpower problems, finding enough is always going to be problematic. Using them as dragoons and force recon elements seems to work well and preserve their numbers though.
Tanks backing up Mobile Suits is a good combination, considering that the heavy gun on the Magellan has better range than it's Federation counterpart.

As for a shortage of planes, Garma says that it's the manpower problems yet again, Dopps are less survivable than Mobile Suits, plus they require more training, so that every loss is even harder to replace.
On the subject of Aeroplane design, Garma still insists that the basic Dopp design is sound for combat in a post Minovsky environment, but admits that variants with heavier armaments are warrented.

    Nice, but....no.

What we need is to capture one of those Trojans, mostly intact. Learn it inside and out, where it'll fall apart from the least amount of effort.

If that means the second Trojan tries to defend the first while we're assaulting it, it'll force it to stay still.

Where we can wound it with another sniper attack. Bleed them to death by inches.

Well, the only way to migitate that is by increasing the ammout of firepower throughout the whole army. Maybe improving the IFF and tracking ability of targeting software far enough that we can put two guns to use on two different targets instead of a single one. Maybe mix units better, providing more of them with guns that work as force multipliers - like those of the Hilddorf.
And maybe make an upgrade package from the sensor equippment of the Flipper. We're gonna stand a better chance if we can see them before they find us.

Well, to be fair, the Hildolfr HAS entered a limited production run, with an intent for base defence.
The Dom's and Rick Doms have entered production early and on a larger scale, the Jaburo attack MS were used successfully, the Pezun Project MS were built early.
Oh, and the Gelgoog is going to be built at LEAST a month ahead of schedule.

This really, with the advent of a mass produced white base, the only thing we have that can counter it is our beam cannons. Without them, we hold no effective counter to it or its gundam compliment, making any engagement with it pointless for us. A mass produced beam weapon is of vital importance to us, now more than ever and should be our top and only priority.

If that involves us stealing plans or a massed assault it doesn't matter, we won't win without it.

The Pegasus-class has entered full production, yes, but at this stage in the war they're still restricted to RX- and RGM-79[G] models. The Feds still lack any real space-capable mobile units aside from Balls. If anything, we ought to counter by stepping up Zanzibar production if we can. It's become really obvious that Gaws just don't cut it against an assault carrier.
    >> Anonymous 04/23/10(Fri)18:55 No.9385003

Oh...and another thing...if we ever make it to space alive, make certain that those MAs end up being integrated into other units. They have additional firepower and we can probably even add rails or something for MS to hold on to them, increasing the deployment range of everyone.

We're probably gonna be better off fighting a delayed harassment battle than going for a single decisive strike.

Not EVERY Pegasus class has Gundams aboard. They only made 8 of the things for the entire war after all.

    -------

Two hours pass and the dust finally gives out to blue skies. The Gaw is partially buried, and the engines refuse to start.
It's beginning to look like it's going to be a long walk home when you receive a call over the laser comms that a transport is being sent to retrieve you.

    "Fat Uncle transports?" You suggest.

"Perhaps the reinforcements I have been requesting have arrived?" Garma muses.

10 minutes later, your ride home is visible as black dot in against the now setting sun, despite the heat haze the dot resolves into a familiar shape.

"Need a ride home?" asks Ookawara over the Outer Heavens communications band.

ZANZIBAR KAI CLASS ASSAULT CRUISER: OUTER HEAVEN HAS REJOINED THE PARTY.

You all mount up on the outer heaven, transferring the Gaws crew over, and leaving a not in the map to salvage the downed Gaw at a later date. The ship takes off and makes it's way back to the base. You receive word that the rest of your squad was picked up by a Supply Train about half an hour and should rejoin you back at the base.
Of the two Trojan Horses however, there is no sign.

    You've lost them... for now.

As for new aircraft I had an idea on how to deal with the constant losses of our Dodai pilots.

For starters we need flight packages based off of the Dodai that can be attached directy to our MS. Ideally they would be powerful enough to lift even Dom's. Pic would be a good example of what I'm going for.

Once that's out of the way we can convert the remaining regular Dodais to carry the Gigan's main gun in a turret on top where the MS used to stand. That should act quite effectively in an Air to Air role when all we'll need is an infantryman to act as the gunner.
