To answer your question, Pokemon Tabletop Adventures is a game based on the D20 system designed by one Dr. Mr. Stark. The "alpha" rules are available on 1d4chan, but they're incredibly incomplete. The beta ruleset will likely be released sometime late this summer.

Well, I think that Pokemon has a lot of potential regarding tabletop RPGs. I do agree with you on Fallout, though, given that it's just a fairly standard post-apocalyptic setting. It's the gameplay and design that sets it apart from the rest of the pack, which likely couldn't be replicated in a tabletop setting.

    >People not understanding Fallout

Look, I know Fallout is a favorite trollin' target due to its rabid fanbase, but let's get something straight here.

Fallout is a very specific thing, and not "just the standard post-apocalyptic setting;" it is a fusion of both the strongest hopes and fears of the 1950s, as if both their dream of a technologically liberated future AND their fear of a mutant-infested atomic wasteland both happened.

Nah, even playing Pokemon sounds really dull. Only four attacks, no real reason for different pokemon to work together (unless you want a Mystery Dungeon game, but then it isn't really Pokemon), and no threats.

    Dull.

Exactly. Fairly standard post-apocalyptic setting. Look, I really like the games and I think they're very well done, but it's still fairly cliched. There's nothing really wrong with that, though. Just because it's been done doesn't mean that it's bad.

In tabletop there are two primary conflicts, Official battles, (duels, gyms, contests, etc.) the standard game rules mostly applies to these. trainers can only give command abilities to pokemon. Ace trainer/researcher/coordinator excel in this field. This is also your primary way of leveling up and earning funds.

Then there is unofficial fights, (streetfights, vs. rockets, wild encounters) this is an anything goes beat down. trainers can attack and will be attacked. this is where martial artist and psychic excel. Death is also a possibly in these fights and the primary storyline fights are these.

Also, depending on how you play Pokemon's setting, it could probably work out. If you want to have a mindless silly game the game's setting works just fine, but if your LOLGRIMDARK, then the Pokemon mangas work out just fine. If I recall right, there is a chapter in the manga in which a giant Haunter kills Pokemon and Humans alike.

There's a pretty basic amount of fluff still, but all the abilities and moves have been fluffed out, and the classes all have a fair bit about them.

It'll need a bit more, and I'm going to write up the rules in a bit more cohesive manner, but it's coming along pretty well.

Using a set of the rules Dr. Mr. Stark uploaded, I started to build a Kamen Rider themed trainer, under the assumption that one would get a mount pokemon and a Heracross.

Martial Artist(For Jump Kick, Karate Chop, and all the endurance and strength bonuses a rider needs)/Ranger(For the boosts to CHA, for the gadget-based buffoonery of a Heisei Rider, and as a prere for the actual "Rider" advanced class)/Rider (For, well, riding. Taking Land mount is a must, and Sea and Air mount are also options. Wish there was a motorcycle pokemon available but whatever)

Also, crank up his CHA with the appropriate feats for heated speeches and take the feat where he doesn't need to grab a pokemon with he Styler before giving them orders.

Ranger Companion: A Heracross, named either "Nigo" or "Stronger" depending on my mood.

Any other suggestions on the build?

Or, if the GM doesn't like adding all those pluses AND a unique move, I could just tell him to keep the move and give the jacked up overland and mount capabilities instead.

So, I was thinking about making Team Rocket well intentioned extremists in my campaign.

They started selling slowpoketail, which is apperently the best food ever, and doesn't require you to actually kill a pokemon. Plus, the tails grow back. They found a food source that didn't require you to kill pokemon.

Also, they all use koffings and zubats. Koffings are hated because they are freaks of nature that only show up at chemical plants, and zubats are slaughtered by the THOUSANDS by children. They are protecting these pokemon, and giving them a place in the world.

They bring in criminals and make sure that they don't have any powerful pokemon, ensuring that they can't cause to much trouble.

In fact, if you read the manga, the ENTIRE REASON TEAM ROCKET EXISTS is as a continent spanning search party looking for Giovannis son, who was kidnapped.

Team rocket are the good guys.

And on the subject of pokemon they help. Voltorb. It is implied they are animated pokeballs, they spend most of their time just sitting in a corner hoping to be left alone, and then trainers start poking them and try to rip them open to see whats inside.

Team Rocket? They let the voltorb be left alone just sitting in a corner, and on top of that, can produce clean and efficient enegy by doing so.

The evolution signal that was implied to be forcing Magikarp through an unnatural and heavily painful process? Not to mention that the product of such was already the embodiment of murderous rage, probably made worse by the signal? And the fact that they've twice launched paramilitary invasions and occupations of entire cities, plus taking large amounts of building staff hostage?

Come to think of it, this just doesn't work. Team Rocket is blatantly evil.

I'm not trolling. I hate the system. It's shit, craps all over both established methodology that could be modified to work in a tabletop setting WHICH WOULD WORK FUCKING BETTER, and established canon.

Oh sure, the game I'm playing has had its moments, such as the time one of the players accidentally killed his gangsta rival's starter pokémon and turned him emo, but I'm playing this one game with my GM, then never again.

Understandable, really, since Dr. Mr. Stark has yet to release any GM Handbook material.

When did it say it was painful?

They tested it on a weak pokemon to be able to more easily tell if the results actually created a more powerful pokemon. The gyrados was not acting an different then a normal one in the wild. Sure, they could have tried it with a weaker pokemon, but there was a lake RIGHT NEXT to there base. It was convineint.

Taking over the radio tower was only to find Giovanni, and was only a last resort after searching for him for THREE YEARS.

That's not the point. Lance and everyone else repeatedly mentioned the fact that the Pokemon were being forced to evolve as something significant, so clearly it was somehow damaging (unless everyone who isn't Team Rocket is just delusional, and that's a theory that I don't buy).

As for the Radio Tower... no, the fact that you're looking for your Great Leader doesn't justify taking over a city. Or kidnapping people and sticking them in basements.

Pretty much, from what I understand of Dr. Mr. Stark's group, he let them inherit a pokemon, either a housepet or an inheritence or somethig, alongside their usual starters.

It's not really a hard and fast game rule, per se, just something the GM can do to speed up the beginning of the game a little (low-level adventures, you know how that can be). It's probably optional, and restricted to low level or early-game pokemon, so nobody starts off with a Gible and rapes everything.

Not my department, but it seems to be an alternitive to picking a starter.

So instead of picking a fire/water/grass pokemon from the proffesor, you bring a (reasonable) pokemon with you. Like a poliwag, Duskull, Pichu, the kind of pokemon that a proffesor would't give you, butcan still be used.

When I reordered the pokedex (which, lets face it, needed to be done long ago), I left a section just after the actual starters for pokemon that make good psuedo-starters.

BESM and M&M both have Children's Cockfighting modules. However, both of them amount to players having five PCs out at the same time, which slows down the game and is a headache for GMs to keep track of.

From a mechanical standpoint, PTA is all about streamlining the relation between Trainer and Pokemon so that it is easier to keep track of the 'mons, while still making it clear that the trainer is the principal character.

They wont change the way types work. However, they do need to add more damaging poison attacks.

As for stealth rock, they should make it last only 5 turs, and add more variety's of each type, then have it function like weather, only one can be out at a time. So you can have stealth rock, OR poison spikes, but not both. They also need to add one that inflicts burn, Like spreading embers on the ground.

I guess I can throw up the final names for the Mystic again.

We have the Ace Trainer, Breeder, Capture Specialist, Coordinator, Martial Artist, Psychic, Ranger, Researcher
Announcing the ninth class: The Mystic

    Advanced Classes:
    Buffet
    Channeler
    Godspeaker
    Guardian
    Muse
    Rune Master

The Mystic had two objectives in mind when we were putting her together.
    1. Involve the use of pokemon, so the player can play a pokemon, but make them distinct from the pokemon themselves.
    2. Represent the canon characters who are... Mystic and have close relationships to the legendary pokemon (such as movie character of the days).

Godspeaker is basically all of the antagonists in the movies. It isn't named for an ability to speak to gods. Rather, the Godspeaker's abilities will be god-like and their actions will be like the voices of gods.
They will have a negative effect on the given legendary they interact with, and will be able to use legendary Moves, syphoning the legend's strength. They will be the opposite of the Muse Advanced class, who will harmonize with legends to use their power.

One cannot take both Muse and Godspeaker.

The Buffet will be able to buff themselves and then impose those buffs onto allied pokemon.

    Starters
    Psuedo-starters
    Vendor Trash
    3-stage pokemon
    2-stage pokemon
    Single Stage pokemon
    Eevee and Tyogre
    Unown
    Psuedo-legendaries

One of the starting abilities is that you can fuse multiple Unown into a single entity, so you can store multiple in a single poke ball. They also can summon Unown to add them to their roster. The combined Unown will have a single HP total, and will be able to use the different hidden powers they each know.

Spelling? Not really yet, though it can be used, if you have enough given letters, for the Unown to tell you things. They will be able to use other Moves too. It'll just be... limited.

Ash and Misty are the same age which was 10 right? Or was she 12? Anyways, how does this sliding timescale work? I mean Ash should be older by now, he's been traveling around the known world for how long? He's seen how many X-mas episodes (at least one every two years), so... yea...

    Yeah, I guess.

Still a pokemon that can create minature expplosions that change in element is pretty awesome.

yeah, when i saw the new season i thought it was a bit weird since Ash would be older and still hanging around with ten year old girls.

I left it up to my player's backstories. One of them did field studies with a Venonat from his university, and when he left school, he stole it. Another raised a cubone in his house as a pet. Another had pets at home, but when they started their journey, they wanted to start fresh so they didn't take anything with them to Oak's lab.

things like this are why the anime sucks.
After the first season "which wasn't that great," they just decided fuck it, no plot development from here on out.
    And... there you go.

Meh, just stick with the manga.

She is legal. I'm not sure about read though, he SHOULD be 19, but... well some shit went wrong, and he spent some time not aging, so even though they are the same age, she is older.

What's the character sheet for this thing going to look like? Are you designing a Paper one or will it be all spreadsheets?

Also, have you released one with your various released through these threads? I've lost track.

I've been doing a lot on my own time since I couldn't find it. So don't worry. Once you're back up, let me know so I can tell you what I need so you don't go copying what I've already done.

Dirty and I have been working on a space efficient character sheet for printing out. Trainer Info will be on one page, and pokemon pages can fit 2 pokemon per page. If you're stating each pokemon you catch over the course of a campaign, you might end up having 5 or 6 pokemon sheets. Generally, you'll end up catching pokemon you never really want to stat and will just list them on your trainer page's PC inventory.
Pwah has been making the spreadsheet. It gets tweaked now and then. Both the player sheets, for printing, and the spreadsheets will be ready by Beta. Until then, sorry folks.
