    99 KB Fate/Stay Quest 3: Another Character!? FSN !mF.IqWIAfs 03/18/10(Thu)18:14 No.8651031
Last Time: A new mage found himself involved in the Holy Grail War. Tobe Suzuhara, a young apprentice mage to Kentaro Tohsaka, was chosen by his master to represent his family in the upcoming Holy Grail War. Tobe accepted his teacher's commandment and proceeded in an attempt to summon Ogliaf the Dane as Servant Saber. His plan backfired when a completely different servant, a mysterious armored figure calling himself Rider, appeared out of nowhere and said that he was Tobe's summoned servant. After a brush with Volg and Lancer, the two sped off to the church in order to inform the head priest of their participation...

HOWEVER. Our eyes will move to another magus who is tied to this war. The young and beautiful Janya Tohsaka. The daughter of the once exceedingly powerful Kentaro Tohsaka. Ever since she was a child she has spent her life training to be a magus and studying all the affairs of a magus. The one event that fascinated her the most was the Holy Grail War. One that her family had taken great pride in and had almost won on more than one occasion. As such, she had grown into a dedicated and prepared woman. Plotting for the day that she would participate and make her family proud...

Which is why she currently stands in her father's trophy room. Absolutely furious at the old man who sits down at his desk. Spending her whole life prepping for this event, and the no-name lackey her father brought on board because he felt sorry for him is getting the job!? This is not merely insulting to you as a mage but insulting as a member of the Tohsaka family.

Will you attempt to reason with your father? Defy him? Would you even take such a course. You know full well that defying a superior family member brings with it a series of risks... but then. That's really up to you to decide isn't it?

"Look. Da-" you begin but catch yourself "... father," you don't want to come off as informal. There's a time and a place for being Kentaro Tohsaka's daughter and this is not it.

"Can't I just assist that moron Tobe? There's no way he can last this long in the Holy Grail War! His skills as a magus aren't nearly up to snuff!"

Your father nods "Indeed. I even had to surrender my cherished belt to him. Simply to give him some hope that it would be enough of a boost."

"Then let me help! I can easily-"

"ABSOLUTELY NOT! Janya. We've discussed this," he explains "the Holy Grail war... it's not a simple skirmish. Janya you've spent your whole life living in this fantasy tale. Believing that the Holy Grail war was simply a clash of great and powerful heroes... but it is much more than that. It is a battle to the death. A competition of not simply power but strategy. Half the time servants are killed because their masters are taken out first! It is a dangerous and terrifying war."

You look at him with a concerned expression... could he be worried about you? Now that you recall. He DID compete in the last Holy-Grail War. Maybe he knows something you don't?

    You understand the general basics.

A group of magus summon heroes from across time, assign them to a general class and have them work to destroy/oppose other servants and/or masters.

The last Holy Grail War was about 50 years ago. Although the actual specs behind that seemed to be rather... unusual. All that was known for sure was that the tallest skyscraper in Skyline city was completely leveled overnight on the final day of that particular war.

The news reports said it was terrorism. But considering what you knew you just assumed it was a battle between servants. Even then the demolition of an entire skyscraper seems much...

Reluctantly you nod your head and accept your father's wishes... superficially at least.

You proceed to move to out of his room and make your way to your own bedroom. FINE! If he doesn't want you to compete then it looks like you'll have to do things on your own!

Only question is... what servant could you summon?

Maybe it'd be best to just risk it and go with a straight up summoning? You're a pretty powerful and experienced magus.

Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵?) (c. 1584–June 13 (Japanese calendar: May 19), 1645), also known as Shinmen Takezō, Miyamoto Bennosuke, or by his Buddhist name Niten Dōraku[1], was a Japanese swordsman and samurai famed for his duels and distinctive style. Musashi, as he was often simply known, became renowned through stories of his excellent swordsmanship in numerous duels, even from a very young age. He was the founder of the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū or Niten-ryū style of swordsmanship and the author of The Book of Five Rings (五輪書 Go Rin No Sho?), a book on strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today.

    You think it over.

Miyamoto Musashi does seem like a shoe-in for Saber class. Being Japan's most famous swordsman alive would definitely qualify.

There's something off however. If you do summon him, you doubt he will be as noble as many other servants. Summoning him could have some serious drawbacks if he decides to go rogue.

Then again, his power would definitely be a handy trait.

Can we use Reinforcement magic on Vlaud's Physical stats? How much can we improve a stat?

Sadly you cannot snap her out of it yet. The charms and abilities required would be too complex right now and you could wind up erasing or possibly messing with your daughter's mental circuits worse than she already has.

You will properly punish her for this. But not right now. For now, you must simply get Tobe his summoning charm.

You proceed to open the door to your vault and command your daughter to follow you. She does so obediently, her arms still behind her back as you left them.

The two of you walk inside, the various cultural artefact's you've collected lay out all around you. Eventually you pass the Sword of Roland and find the item you were looking for in question. A stone from the castle of Denmark. Hopefully this will be what Tobe needs in order to summon Ogliaf...

Our father has made it clear that he cares deeply about our welfare. Once we've conducted the summoning ritual, we'll be stuck as a Master for better or worse; if he really cares about us he'll either summon up a Servant himself to help out, or offer us all the backup he can- the only safety will come through victory at that point, after all. We therefore might be able to get away with staying here after summoning our Servant.

In a matter of minuets, you're sitting in the living room, kneeling on some traditional mats while Yuen and her mother drink Tea.

"It is so good that you could visit us cousin!" Yuen says happily "I had no idea that you had come all the way from China to simply see us!"

You sit at the table with a glass of traditional tea in front of you and a path to the outside right there. They both seem utterly convinced of your mental-reprogramming. Now what do you do next?

You make you way up into the attic and begin your summoning ritual.

You draw the circle on the ground. Wait till the hour is appropriate... and then you begin.

Slowly you let out your chanting. The circle glows and emits light as Roland's sword in the center begins to shake. Slowly the hilt of the sword rises. Then the tip, and then all the smaller pieces begin to form together. Each of them attaching to another piece until the full sword appears in front of you. In a blast of radiance you are struck with a huge piercing light. It almost blinds your eyes to watch it... and then. An arm reaches out and grabs the sword's hilt. The light fades and you see a tall man standing there. An aura of complete grace and power fills his body. He opens his eyes and looks to you.

"Answer me," he speaks in a calm yet confident voice "are you my ma-"

This isn't based on F/SN I know, but F/SN's Durandal is partly based on some stories were Durandal was blessed and granted 3 wishes, lots of events unfolded and inthe end only one of the wishes was used.
Durandal have had many owners however and Roland was not the hero of any of the versions that had granted it wishes.
But in F/SN 2 of those wishes remain and the mystical rank of this blessing outranks UBW, so if Archer were to use a wish, he wouldn't be able to project another one and regain it, as the miracle is greater than UBW.
There you have it, some fun extra information regarding the Nasuverse.

Perhaps but with this guy as the Saber class Sigurd is out of the game, and was supposedly the strongest servant, he could have been more useful.
But on the other hand, with this we won't have him as an enemy either.

    Remaining classes
    Archer, Caster, Assassin, Berserker
He would only qualify as Berserker, but he would suck as Berserker compared to Saber at least, but that is one enemy out.

On the other hand, with the status increase boost that come with the class he might be a dangerous opponent still even so.
I just figured that being one of the more knowledgeable servants summoning him as Berserker would be a waste, but seing as how his physical stats are top as well he could be a fearsome opponent as berserker, especially considering his immortality.
But with Mad Enhancement he would lose his ability to gather intel at which he would supposedly be really great at.
But yeah in the end I doubt that any master would be able to control such a strong servant as Berserker for very long and especially if theyhave to use their own familliars to gather intel as they feed on their master's mana.
So yes, the most dangerous opponent is out, and with a Servant that is effective against most dangerous nr.2 I would supose that she could get by until the end with this Roland.

    What?
The mad enhancement is a requirement for the Berserker class.
It's like how the Knight classes come with magic resistance, Archer with independent action, Assassin with precence concealment and Rider with riding.
You can't chose not to trigger mad enhancement, mad enhancement is what you have to tamper int the ritual in order to get them to be Berserker, and it is also the reason for why no master was able to control them until Iliya did it by being custom made with the pinnacle of homunculi technology.

Okay, I'm back from my long sleep to catch up.

    >*Scherezade chimes in* Did someone say they need a Caster?

Speaking of a 1001 Nights, I would remind everyone that heroic animals are also eligable in the grail as well. I mentioned it at the start, but this makes things like Fenris, Sleipnir, the Nemean Lion, the Hydra etc all eligable. From 1001 nights there was a Lion who could talk to animal and man, was regarded as the mighty king of beasts, but his one weakness was a cage of wood.

Also, there's Sinbad, Alladin, Ali Baba, although none of them would be THAT powerful a servant, Alladins Noble Phantasm would be A++ tier though as he summons forth a horde of Djinni.

But if you want to know the identity of the No.1 person we DONT want to see get summoned as Archer, look no further than Rama from the Ramayana.
This guy is a mortal (and thus eligable) avatar of Vishnu, the Hindu God of FUCKING PERFECTION. He was also infamous for using Vishnu's super divine bow.

On the subject of caster, we KNOW that Rasputins cock is in the Museum, but there's always the old standby's of Faust, Merlin or Moses.

Then there's berzerker, the wildcard. Who knows what thats going to turn up.

On the subject of Kamen Rider, our servant has the ability to turn anything into a bike right? I'm pretty sure that the only riders who could transform things like that was Agito and Chalice from blade. As I think the OP would have dropped something that would have enabled us to recognise if it had a FUCKING HEART SHAPED HELMET then my money's on Agito.

Sorry to bump it after it died, I just felt like throwing in my opinion at the end.

Were the criteria for servants ever explained beyond being a hero/villain?

No heroes younger than 100 years, that's been clarified in the first chapter of Fate/Stay Zero.
Beyond that, I think you can summon pretty much anyone from history. Hence the Angry Manjuu incident.

    What about archer then?

Archer is a living contradiction to a lot of the rules. I think the fact that he was a Counter Guardian may have had something to do with it as well.
Also, it's more than likely that Archer was from at least 100 years in the future as well. So you've still got that 100 years barrier. Possibly.

Look "Archer did it" is not an excuse for anything.

I also get the feeling that the Grail didn't really want to give her Archer, but she borked the spell timings so badly it had to.

I have no idea truthfully how she managed to summon Archer.
Even Archer seemed a little put out that someone had managed to do so.
I'm aware that she had the required catalyst, but even so it SHOULDN'T have resulted in summoning anything. Gah, that side of things is really a mess.

I was asleep but if you want it clarified I can give you the information.
Rin summoning Archer was a bit reversed when it came to the mechanics.
It was less so that she had the catalyst to summon Archer, it was more so that Archer had the catalyst to be summoned by her.
This basically means that while the pendant was a necessary catalyst, no one else except her would have been able to use it to summon Archer, he was only able to be summoned because Rin with the pendant was the connection to him.

It is all reversed really, if we take Gilgamesh's summon for an examle.
Tokiomi used the snake skin as a catalyst with the connection to Gilgamesh and the part the snake played in his life.
When it came to Archer's summon however it was more like this.
Archer in the future had Rin's pendant with a connection to her and how she saved his life, and then it was used by her as a catalyst for a summon in the past.

So one can't simply go and find a catalyst that would be associated with a hero in the future, that isn't enough and that isn't really how it works either.

So we can't summon futuristic sci-fi heroes from the future, like Gundam pilots for an example?
Too bad, but yeah, the Rider spot is already taken so I guess it doesn't matter.
