    >I Feel Loneliness. Both The Human Race And The Concordiate Are Gone. Nothing Of Either Remains, Save For Thousands Of Uninhabitable Worlds, Legacy Of the Multi-Milllenia Conflict With The Melconian Empire.

    >I Was There For The Final Battle, The Assault On The Barrain System. To My Shame, I Was Incapacitated In The Beginning Of The Battle. Several Hundred Years Later, My Repair Capabilities Finally Restored Me To Functionality. I Once Again Am A Battleship Of The Concordiate Navy.

    >And Yet, There Is No Navy, No One To Fight, Nothing To Protect...

    Intro for newcomers:
We are: A AI-run battleship, remnant of the Concordiate. After five thousand years of warfare, the Terran Concordiate and the Melconian Empire annihilated each other. Totally and utterly. Most planets were lucky just to be glassed.

Our crew is dead, and we were disabled for quite some time before repair systems brought us back online. We have no particular objectives anymore, and no superiors to take orders from. We're a battleship. We've found/salvaged/made/rallied a few Concordiate units. A small fleet. [Us, three armor transports, three huge tanks, and a mobile factory.]
    State of the fleet:
    >Unit BLN; Blaine; and it's transport.
    >Unit TYR and it's transport.
    >Our 'zombie' mk. XXXIII and it's transport. (brain-dead, we can control it directly if we wish.)
    >Hephaestus; forge-ship.

And I shall (possibly foolishly) persist in trying to do first person. I'm likely to screw it up, though. If/when I do, point it out, and forgive me, please.
    >> Anonymous 03/10/10(Wed)19:24 No.8515282
I think someone seconded TYR as Tyler last thread. Also, if you're going to keep that first part as the opening and the info for newcomers part for the OP of every thread, I noticed a small grammar error.

    >We are: A AI-run battleship
    Should be
    >We are: An AI-run battleship

Sorry to nit pick, but you did say to point things out...

Anyway, I guess there's not much to do but wait while our probes keep searching and hope that they find something. I guess we can search some places as well, though I have no idea where to start; might as well pick a random system and jump in, hoping for the best.

    Seems reasonable.

Unit BLN is a goddamnhuge tank. A Mark XXXIII Bolo of the Line, to be precise and formal. A single Mk.XXXIII planetside can shoot down ships in orbit. Like I said, just page down a couple times in the archive. You'll see the picture.

Passive sensors report emissions. Engaging thrusters, I move myself between the landers and the jump signatures, and order transports to stay behind me.

A fleet has exited hyperspace, just over a hundred thousand kilometers from me. Already, the group is accelerating in-system.

This has not gone unnoticed to the Morrian defense fleet, and their fleet is rallying and moving to intercept. (Estimated time: 3.hours, forty seven minutes.)
    >> Anonymous 03/10/10(Wed)19:43 No.8515654

Next to us. And correct. This seems to be a raiding fleet, likely trying to prevent the colony from getting established.

The Morrians are hailing me, requesting aid in defense of their planet. The Drell are hailing us, requesting that if I am the same ship they encountered before [I am], then please do not interfere on behalf of their enemies again.
    >> Anonymous 03/10/10(Wed)19:50 No.8515790
Well we *do* have a ceasefire agreement with them; it would be dishonorable to break it, considering that those they are facing are not nearly as disadvantaged as the other species we met.

Estimate number of Drull ships and class?
    >> T. G. Cid !!rtYNAz6CDEY 03/10/10(Wed)19:52 No.8515833
Drell fleet is roughly numerically equal to the Morrian fleet. Records suggest that the Drell might have a slight technological advantage.
    >> Anonymous 03/10/10(Wed)19:56 No.8515910
And the Morrians will have their options limited because they'll have to keep the colony ship safe..

Well, we have an agreement with the Drull. I really see no reason to break it. I say let them be. But if we "accidentally" sent the Morrian's the data we took from the Drull battleship way back when, giving particular attention to any weaknesses in the Drull's strategies and ships, well, it wouldn't be such a bad thing...

Colony ship has been mostly disassembled into the colony. Further, records on the Drell suggest that they are far more likely to subjugate and annex the colony, along with whatever inhabitants are there.

Query: How do the drell treat said subjugated populations?

If they are treated humanely(By Concordiat standards), I see no reason to intervene, however, should they treat them worse than slaves, again, I feel direct intervention is necessary.

    ...big words...

So you mean they'll take over the colony? As I remember, the Drell are pretty cool about this kind of thing, leaving captured planets and colonies mostly to themselves but with a Drell presence, right? So the colonists aren't really in any danger. I say we slip the Morrians some tactical info on the Drell and leave them to fend for themselves.

The non-military ships are either avoiding the combat. [The pair of remote miners], or working on constructing orbital defenses. (The fighting is drifting back towards the planet, but isn't there yet.)

The computerized equivalent of a double-take flows through my circuits. A significant portion of the Morrian fleet was replaced by expanding debris clouds without warning.

A Drell ship that could be vaguely classified as a light cruiser, name roughly translating to "[Pillar/Load] of Duty" managed to breach Morrian screening. It proceeded to broadside one of the Morrian heavy cruisers end on, just as it's bow shields failed. The heavy cruiser [Sky Shredder] was gutted, bow-to stern, a gaping hole length wise. Morrian firepower was diverted to disintegrating the wreck, despite the possibility of survivors [23.487%], as it was highly likely that some computers remained intact aboard. [39.546% likelihood.

The Morrian fleet has is attempting to disengage, though C&C for part of their fleet died with the [Sky Shredder].

High is good. 19 was not -really- high, though. It would have been much worse otherwise.

Hyper-ing in one of our own probes, [stealthed], we get the proximity to do an in-depth scan. Our probe performs the scanning equivalent of taking it apart and and numbering the components, and then self destructs.

The unknown drone, stealthed, seems to think that our drone [it evidently noticed the active scanning] was from the battle. It has backed off, but has otherwise continued it's broad-spectrum observation un-interrupted.

The probe is a remote drone, observing the conflict. It does not match with either the Drell or the Morrian technologies or design styles. It seems significantly advanced compared to them, too.

Theoretically, that's possible, however, unless it has verification from Concordiate civilian government, and acceptance from it's own government to it's secession, then it would not be allowed. I do not think I can take such steps on my own.

A second probe is directed to jump in and hail the observation drone. A stream of gibberish [not enough samples to decode] is returned. Further hailing receive the same message.

Hephaestus states that as a factory AI [and a non-military AI, despite it being a military fabricator], that it is capable of producing more Units and more psychotronic cores, it is not allowed to. It was allowed to produce Units Blaine and TYR, in order to keep intact Concordiate military hardware [itself, or rather, it's potential products], but cannot do so for another Unit. [It was implemented to prevent rogue AIs producing rogue reinforcements.]

Screens on light, weapons warm, stealth systems still engaged.

The probe is not transmitting. It may be a recorder, considering how intently it is observing the ongoing battle.

A ceasefire in wartime is simply an agreement that holds until it is broken.

You can not expect the drell to keep it if it is inconvenient for them.

For instance, on major religious holidays, almost all fighting in WWII ceased; a ceasefire. Not for honor, but because it would crush the morale of the troops to be forced to slaughter each other on christmas.

This information is presented with the hope that the nodes will not refer to the ceasefire as some major diplomatic negotiation. Unless you intend to unify the galaxy or expand to your own settlements.

Eventually some ambitious drell leader will attempt to hijack your ships. And when they fail, they will expect you to forgive them the consequences of their actions.

I return! A lot to read through, y'all.

The Morrian forces have been overcome, and are retreating. The colony is evacuating, and [probably] the Morrians are performing as extensive database purges as they can. [They have also broadcasted their intentions to destroy the colony, once it is evacuated. I project they mean to use atomic weaponry on the installation.

The stealth probe stayed to record the final moments of the battle, and is now heading for the far side of the system, and what can only be hyperdrive engines are charging on it. It is leaving. It would be possible to follow it, provided we acted quickly.

The Drell fleets are advancing on the Morrian colony. If everything goes optimally, the Morrians think they can evacuate everything and destroy their installation on their way out of the system.

Okay, seriously? We're right next to it, relatively speaking, and following it. Our stealth systems aren't 'lolololinvisible!', but are more along the lines of making it harder for them to notice us. Even they can't manage right next to a not-too primitive probe that we're following.

That would require down-time with Hephaestus. Chasing a probe is no time for that.

The probe exits hyperspace, and we follow.

We have burst into a fully spacefaring race's system. Large amounts of orbital industry and at least one orbital dock are visible over the sixth planet. Multiple ships are approaching quickly, many of them hailing us. [Likely quite upset that we just busted down the front door to their capital, or equivalent.]

Some smaller ships are also converging. Some of the ships speculatively identified as military vessels are speaking to them, likely ordering them away from us.

[dice 1d100+40 for decoding their language.]

It is likely they could cause significant damage to us, possibly even destroy us outright if they had a large enough advantage in numbers.

[Sorry, forgot to make it open rolling, did it myself.]
I have mostly decoded it. Among other things, they are quite upset to see a capital ship randomly appear in their space, are quite worried, as we have breached their hyper-interdiction zone [I detected significant hyper-destabilization as we arrived, however, my engine are more than capable of compensating for that degree.]

Several civilian ships are approaching at what I assume is their maximum drive speed; they are broadcasting, among other things, greetings, requests for docking, questions about my/our origins, and, in one case, an exclusive trading contract. [Though the translation may be off on that.]

The military force's hailing seems disjointed [their leader is obviously not among the approaching ships, each captain is making it's own demands.]
The most discernible and prevalent demands come down to
    1. Surrender your ship. (Hah. Hah. Hah. Very funny.)
    2. Exit the Interdiction zone and enter on sublight thrusters.
    3. Identify ourselves.

As for wanting to speak to the commander, we are the commander in this situation. Worst comes to worst, we can lie and say that our people have taken up the practice of uploading their military's brightest into warships to control them personally. Unless that's somehow against our programming.

Engage full external running lights. We need to use their civilians as propaganda in our favor. A civilization this advanced would imply personal comms capable of sending messages planetside from the ship. The word we're looking for here is 'awe'. As a secondary measure, slightly list from side-side, vertically, along the middle axis to 'wave' at the passenger ship.

Scan their systems for AI use if at all possible. If even remotely possible, attempt to ascertain what their reaction would be to the realization of what we are. If they would be indifferent or positive, reveal what we are. If not, it should be quite simple to graft a false image into our transmissions of our last commanding officer, with him/her [records damaged] being animated by us like a sort of puppet while we speak through his/her 'Mouth'.

Until we can ascertain this, I suggest we stall for time. There are a whole variety of first-contact rules we can tie them up in to avoid the issue for a few minutes, at the least.

It is un willing/able to do so, due to prior programming, among which, is stuff about not making AI controlled legions without humans in command. [And directly ordering their creation.]

[We never decided what our name is/was. They're voting on what we were named something hundred years earlier when we were commissioned. Retroactive, and all that.]

Are we alone? Yes, but other ships can travel here in a negligible amount of time (the rest of our little fleet)
Are we willing to drop our shields? As a sign of good faith. If they do the same.
What are the Concordiate's intentions, and would a cultural exchange be acceptable? We detected your probe and had no information on it. We sought to identify the species that created it. I dunno about the cultural exchange. I suggest no, because it'd let slip that we're all that's left.
