    Hey there /tg/.

As some of you may know, I am currently working on the second version of 'Adeptus Evangelion'. Adeptus Evangelion (AdEva for short) is a Dark Heresy modification designed to run games in the world of Evangelion.

Those interested may find the original version here:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J02I3KQ5
Though with any luck at all, that version will be obsolete as soon as possible.

Anyway, back to the point: The mechanical changes for version 2 are either done or mostly done and currently being playtested under various conditions. I have no intention of releasing an AdEva version 3, and I want V2 to be as perfect as I can reasonably make it.

To that end, I want to make the PDF itself more professional.

And that, /tg/, is where I hope you come in...
    [continued in next post]
    >> Black Mesa Janitor 03/08/10(Mon)21:49 No.8480800
In short, /tg/, I would like to pad out the second AdEva release version with some small pieces of Adeptus Evangelion original content. Small fluff pieces, quotes and artwork. You know, the sort of thing that helps bring an RPG book to life.

While I have some of this coming in already from the current development team, I figured I would give /tg/ a chance to share anything you are willing to contribute as well.

If you do, it wouldn't be unreasonable for me to give you an honorable mention of the credits page (if you should wish such a thing).

As always, I would be glad to take any questions, comments or suggestions about the second version or AdEva in general.

Thank you for your time, /tg/.

This anon speaks the truth. while I will freely admit that S&40k is what got me started on this path, it is by no means its end. Though, a GM certainly could run such a game if they chose with not too much extra effort.

While I could include quotes from S&40k, I would require Charles Bhephin's permission. And I'm not sure what quotes would even really be appropriate. All of the best quotes from S&40k would seem epic, but out of place.

    Still, not a bad idea.

There is a custom Angel generator (which is currently getting a massive overhaul) as well as listed stats for all 'Canon' angels as well as the Jet Alone and the Mass Produced Evangelions.

    >>8480873

Original characters preferred. Also keep in mind that the shorter it is, the more likely that we will be able to include it in its entirety.
We arn't at a premium for space, exactly, but anything that's 5 pages long will seem like a massive digression.

To address your first point, each Canon Angel has a whole half page or so dedicated to how this Angel might be modified with a key enhancement or two, just to throw any players who plan on using the series to their advantage for a loop.

Ramiel bending light and shifting his image 20 meters to the left was kinda mean, but a good example suggestion.

as for the 'bio virus' (by which I assume you mean Iruel, who infected the Magi at one point), I didn't give Iruel stats. Because Iruel is not an Angel that can be fought with an Evangelion. It simply doesn't work.

In fact, you might remember that the pilots themselves were more or less written out of that episode fairly early on.

Obviously, such a thing would be massively unsatisfying for players, having the NPCs solve all of their problems for them off screen.

So, while any GM may feel free to run their own Iruel encounter in some form, AdEva politely recommends that you replace Iruel with a randomly generated Angel of some kind. Though, the GM can certainly make that Angel some sort of virus-creature as well. Just something the Eva's can actually shoot at.

Leliel (the big black extradimensional space) was similarly difficult to stat, because both Leliel and Iruel were defeated by plot beyond the Pilots ability to influence.

If I can scrape such a thing together, that would be awesome. There is no extra fluff included right now (though there is a whole section describing the setting).

While I currently have a fair amount of artwork, most of it is screencaps or official art from other sources. Obviously, some parts of Adeptus Evangelion simply have no corresponding picture. Hence the need for new material.

Ah ok. I didn't know it was named Iruel.

I was thinking it could be somewhat watered down to be an infection to take over one Eva unit or several smaller units (i.e. an army of tanks that get into NERV HQ)

It also could be used as some kind of template for an 'infected' angel. basically Evas take down simple angel then Iruel takes over as a host and fights them that way.

Yes it's not fighting the true Iruel but like you pointed out it was just plain unfair.

Maybe so. But despite the existence of S&40k, I didn't choose the Dark Heresy system because it was 40k. I choose it because it had a built in Insanity system and a brutal combat system, both of which I thought were vital to the success of the game.

That it was 40k was entirely coincidental.

If you are feeling up to the task, re-converting Adeptus Evangelion to handle traditional mecha would simply require the removal of AT Fields, the Ego Barrier mechanic, and some new career paths and upgrades/weapons. And the Angels have to go, of course.

    Most everything else is fluff!

While an encounter that does not require actual Evangelion combat could lead to an interesting scenario, it will likely be resolved by the actions of just one of the players.

Now if you can give the pilots something to do while the other player is managing the Angel, that is something I completely endorse.

    >>8481375

There are plenty of options for Encroachment type Angels in the works to enable them possession of Evangelions, would that suffice?

There are times when you forget about it all, you know? Not for long of course, its hard to forget watching giant God damned robots fight...THINGS, while you run your ass down to the nearest shelter. But I mean, for when your just walking down the street, things seem the same. There are signs up to tell people where to go during an attack, but they look the same as the ones that tell people where to go during a flood. There are more uniformed soldiers on the streets yeah, but in a big city like this they still blend into the crowd. "They're probably on leave" you think. But the one thing that always brings you back to reality when you see 'em, are the sirens.

You ever see those old world war 2 movies, when the Japs or the Nazis do an air raid and some guy starts cranking that crazy looking alarm and it kinda surprises you, how loud it is?

When there's an attack, imagine that, times a thousand. They got every kind of siren hooked up to the system. Those very same air raid alarms uptown, antiques by now I image, tornado sirens in the 'burbs, and megaphones on damn near every street corner. When they go, they ALL go. And when you here them go, you drop everything and go.

    And I mean EVERYTHING.
    >> Alebak !!GutpvEm2fJX 03/08/10(Mon)23:03 No.8482161
First time I heard it go off, I was taking my lunch break in the park. It was a nice day, you remember right? Sunny, kinda breezy, good day to take the kids out and about. I saw a guy playing with his two kids, some old lady feeding pigeons, very "Rockwell", you know? Then the alert started, all the sound coming in at once. Pre-recorded voices telling people to calmly move to a safe place, sirens winding up from a dead start to a full wail.

Everyone around me hauled ass, I saw that same dad from earlier running full tilt, one kid in each arm. I saw one woman yelling at friend of her's over the sound, "WHERE'S YOUR BROTHER?! HE WAS JUST HERE!", I saw another kid, just sitting there crying, everyone ignoring him as they ran past him. I saw some teenager on a cellphone, finger plugged in the other ear, telling whoever he was talking to forget him and hide in the basement.

When I made it to the street, I also got plowed down by a truck that was driving on the sidewalk. There was a shelter down the block on the corner, with yellow emergency lights flashing. Those megaphone's still telling people to proceed calmly and with caution (Painfully loud that close), which seemed fairly ridiculous, considering that people were sprinting in every direction, some to the shelters, some trying to get home.

Then this huge shadow passes over the street. It was one of those Evas, doing full out super strides down main street. It just jumped clean over the whole crowd, crushed a parked car down the blocked, turned at the intersection and disappeared from sight behind some sky scrapers. That just agitated the crowd even worse. I didnt wait around, I just forced my way through the crowd to the shelter, some cold war relic that looked like it was recently renovated. I waited there for the all clear.

My ears rang for hours after it was over, it was so loud. Those sirens, they'll never let you forget. I suppose that's their job.

You know, I pity those poor kids up in the EVAs. Used to work on the inside myself, saw a lot of kids come all all scarred and shit, and not just on the outside either- hell, those are the lucky ones. Sure, there's some that come out of the tubes still the same happy bastards they were going in, but you can't break what's already broken, get me? That said, I'll thank you kindly not to mention any of that- eh? What's that?

No, no, bad choice of words, sorry. When I said 'on the inside', I meant as a guard, not a pilot. Didn't qualify, wouldn't want to. Nah, I'm pretty much happy being up here, doing regular police work. 'Cos it ain't 'regular'-regular, you know, being a cop in a city targeted by Angels. Yeah, sure, I know I could die any time those giant sonsabitches comes along, but any job that requires you to hold a gun's dangerous by default, and as a god-fearin' man, I have full confidence that when my time's up, I'll be marching up to the Pearly Gates and tellin' everyone in earshot that I didn't die some bitch death, I got my ass killed by a fuckin' Angel.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah- see, most people who ain't from these parts- exam-ply gotcha, someone like YOU- think that the EVA pilots get all the glory, that we gropos get the wrong end of a shitty stick. Thing is, that's what most civvies think too, hah! See, kiddo, what with all the media talking about the EVA pilots, and how everything from TV shows to goddamn pencils have licensed konockoff NERV shit to hock to tourists, every civilian with more than two brain cells gets to thinkin' "Oh, those poor boys in green! Ain't fair, them kids gettin' all the attention while honest Joes like them have to do the cleanup!" And it starts gettin' out- thing about word of mouth is that with EVAs around, people like us don't need a lot of words to get plenty of mouth, get me?

Look kid, I ain't gonna lie to you. It CAN be a shitty job- fuck, it IS a shitty job, on the surface of it. When an Angel attacks, it fucks things up. Collateral damage don't just apply to homes getting wrecked and civvies getting killed in the firefight, you know? Guy loses his home and family, he starts thinking that he better start giving as good as he got, and goes crazy with the handgun he bought with his last cash. Grandma gets pushed out of a car near a fight so the family can claim insurance. Shit, I'm old enough to remember how the world was like before Second Impact; if the Angels had waited a decade or so, we'd have nuked ourselves to hell and gone!

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, the job. Yeah, it can get pretty fucked at times, but at least we've got perks. Plenty of pretty civvies get all flustered when they see us comin' up, and it's easy to take advantage of that, believe you me! And then you've got all these pretty reporters, trying to make it big the easy way by running smear jobs on EVA pilots, all comin' up with small skirts and hughe checkbooks, trying to get an 'exclusive interview'... it ain't a perfect world, kid, not in general. Best thing we can do is make it perfect for ourselves, and maybe our pals.

Ayup. Best thing we can do.

To the common masses our struggle is a fight, a war. A battle fought with sinew and muscle, with bullet, blade, and bomb, with tank and warship.
To those of us high enough realize this is a conflict of will! A struggle of metaphysical dimension. The future of Mankind is our battleground.
The very existence of the human race is the prize for victory. Our morality is the sacrifice we make to win that victory.

Incident Report - form AC 573

Subject: Synthetic Prototype reference UTNAPISHTIM (abbrev: Tim)

At approximately 1730 hrs two days previously, subject was permitted direct contact with conventional pilots HONG and ZANE as per protocol 442. Subject appeared to have responded well to social preformatting, engaging in simple conversation without excessive difficulty. When conversation turned to preferred forms of entertainment, preprogrammed reponses failed. At this time, a contrived security alert terminated the conversation without causing suspicion. Subject displayed no immediate response to failure of preformate dresponse, and retired to individual quarters for templated rest period.

At 2015 hrs, subject broke templated schedule, exited individual quarters, and proceeded to pilot 'break room'. Once there, subject turned on provided television, and began to watch unedited programming. Guards on duty were not those privy to nature of subject, and did not subsequently recover situation. Subject continued watching television until I because aware of this turn of events, at which point I immediately notified our agents. When the television was turned off subject reacted hysterically such that sedation was required. This took place today at 1448 hrs.

Surveillance records indicate during this entire timeframe, being 33 hours in duration, subject did not cease watching the television. Subject took in no food or water during this time, and did not alter position significantly. A forced hydration regime has begun to remedy this temporary shortfall.

Clearly, exposure to entertainment media is dangerous to subject. I recommend the immediate removal of all entertainment devices, personal and collective, from the facility. Alternatively, I propose that command acknowledge the validity of my earlier comments that this is a military facility attempting to engineer a weapons control system and not a daycare centre producing yet more worthless civilians to feed.

"Third impact, and the melting of very nearly the entire continent of Antarctica, was the single most catastrophic event in human history. Within a week, the disaster had killed one billion people, and flooded most of the worlds arable land. Within a year, another billion had starved to death, praying for an intervention that never came. Another billion lives were lost when the Remnant Governments realised the floodwaters would never recede, and fought long and bitterly over the few patches of barely-arable land left. When the U.N. finally took control, nobody cared it had long abandoned its original mission, or that is was kept in power by oppressive force, for mankind's soul had been purified by the near-apocalypse. No more would we hold ourselves apart in appeasement of tired lines of race, politics, ideology, or religion. For the first time in human history, we were united by the common goal of survival. No matter who they were, or how they survived, everyone alive who remembers the days of Second Impact shares one goal:

    Never again."

"I've seen some things in my life. I lived through Second Impact, and survived the African Famine. I was on the ground when Sachiel came through Boston. But the one thing that scares me more than anything else are those Evangelions. How the hell can we possibly think we control anything that can survive having its head torn off long enough to beat an Angel to death with it?"

    Sergeant Walters, 2Div Infantry.

"The basics of hand-to-hand in an Eva are the same as they are on the ground. All you've got to do is adjust for the fact that you're now twenty stories tall, weight four hundred tons, and the other guy's a laser-shooting octahedron."

    Trooper Hong

"The operations director of a NERV facility possesses more individual power than any military or political figure on earth. Direct control over three Evangelion units grants any such officer the capacity to effectively wage war against any other Evangelion-armed nation, or the entire mass of the remainder simultaneously. The only meaningful constraint on that power is the fact that it must be exercised through three utterly unreliable children, prone to failure for the least of reasons, or even no reason at all. If NERV ever manages to procure a reliable alternative, the Angel will soon be the least of our worries."

"The Evangelion is a marvellously resilient tool, combining the self-repair of biological systems with the multiple redundancy of artifical weapons. It is capable of sustaining damage that would be catastrophic to any other mechanical or biological weapon and continue performing, and even when it is utterly defeated, so long as it can be recovered it can be restored to full function. Their only weakness is the pilot itself. While an Evangelion can have its waist bisected and continue to fight, It may be difficult to demonstrate to a panicking nerve-linked child that their own legs are, in fact, still attached."

    "And..?"

"Well, since you asked, we do have a certain interest in our common foe. The Angels. We don't want to put pressure on you, but it would certainly ensure BioGen's continued, ah, gratitude if you were to allow us to examine an Angel's remains. First, that is, before your U.N. taskmasters ruin any scientific value it had. You're a man of intelligence, you understand how important it is to gain an... uncorrupted insight?"

"No. The Evangelion project is the one thing standing between us and annihilation. I'm not going to compromise it for your profit."

"Of course not, Mister Hertz. BioGen would never dream of asking you to engineer such a situation. All we ask is that if such a situation ever arises...

Well, we're sure you'll make the right choice."

I was a pilot. "Was" being the key word. There is some sort of undeniable allure to piloting a demi-god, even though we were all dragged through hell itself to survive. The Angels... those unthinking monsters. We were like the Titans of old, fighting against those demonic hosts. I never understood why they called them Angels. If anything, WE were the Angels. The Protectors of Mankind.

I miss those other pilots. We... we were all so young. You become closer than siblings with those you fight alongside with. After all we went through together... Its... an experience I'll never have again.

Why am I not piloting anymore? I'm ashamed to say... I don't have the aptitude. You see, we all need a certain amount of synchronization with our Evangelions to even be able to pilot them. If you drop low enough or crack under the strain, you'll simply be a useless tool. And with so few Children found, we simply couldn't afford to be useless.

Though... I'd give anything to be able to move that beast again. To feel that power... to raise my AT Field and roar at the heavens... its... beautiful.

Thanks for listening, its just about time for my medication.

At one time, this conference room was filled with arguments about morality and conscience. The top brass wanted a way to ensure full cooperation by the pilots. ‘Chemical inhibitors’, ‘neural implants’, ‘brain washing’, stuff like that. They didn‘t want human beings, they didn‘t even want a loyal dog, they wanted the pilots to be mindless automatons. They wanted complete power over the pilots because they afraid of them. No, mortified.
The saviours of humanity were an abomination to those they were to protect. I saw one captain’s hand unconsciously move towards his sidearm when he met the second Neo-Spartan. I don’t think he was even aware of it, but subconsciously he knew what he was looking at. Just like the Angels, the pilots are beings completely detached from humanity.
What are they fighting for? We stole their innocence the day they were born and handed them a destiny they hand no way of comprehending. We took away their childhood and bathed them in reality before they could even talk. They know only war, personal achievement, and the praise of their handlers. They don’t know what they are fighting for and view humanity from outside it. What will happen to them if we win? What will they do when humanity has been saved? How could they possibly continue if fighting the Angels is what their entire existence revolved around? Worse… What if our wunderkinds become away of that terrible truth? It’s all pros and cons for them, so what difference does it make if both ends result in them losing? They could simply give up and let the Angels win.
That is why our leaders are so scared. We’ve put the fate of humanity in the hands of the inhuman.

The night of the operation, Tristan and I were perched on the scaffolding above our EVAs' cages. The night was so peaceful, the moon gleaming off of the river and the sky a shade of blue I'd never seen before. The skyline was only marred by the terrible shape that loomed over it. I felt as if the faceless thing was watching over me.

I tried to strike up a conversation with Tristan. I know it was like talking to a brick wall, but I couldn't help but feel like he resented me for the assignation. As usual nothing I said got a response, he just stood there, arms folded, matching the intense glare of his EVA.

He didn't move, just as still as a tree. I stupidly filled the air with my own chatter, thinking that he was just listening and reflecting. When the Commander gave the order to move out, Tristan didn't even flinch. Didn't even blink.

"It's time, Tristan." I think I said. After a pause he smiled to himself.

"Alright, let's go." Was his response before heading for the plug. Funny thing is, I don't think he was talking to me.

It was a mess. They had pushed through emergency funding to get an Eva built quickly enough to maybe save the human race, or at least to take some of the load off of the only two functioning units, which were starting to suffer badly from not being able to undergo full mainanence. When the contractors had told them they could have it on-time, in-budget, or up to specs, they had decided that time was the most important of the three.

Provisional Unit A had been delivered on time. It had gone badly over budget, the contractor needing to grow three full bodies just to get enough salvagable parts from the quick-growth process. The armor was a plumbers nightmare, corners cut at every opportunity to save time. Worst was the head - rather than taking the time to make the extensive modifications needed, they had simply lopped it off and fashioned something that looked like a cross between a conning tower and a radar array, studded with sensors, which they claimed would work even better than the provided blueprints.

It was a monster. A patchwork frankenstein fourty meters tall and made with schizophrenic tech that was at the same time far ahead of its time and far behind. It was one of the most powerful war machines ever made. And today it was going to go into battle for the first time.

They were very careful not to mention to the pilot just how much of his Eva was duct tape. They wanted his morale to be high, after all.

They didn't speak often, not even to each other, and they never showed any emotion. Everyone else thought they were creepy, though maybe that's why I was so fascinated by them. I followed them home one day, asking if I could tag along, and they just agreed. When we got there I introduced myself to their "mother" as a friend from school. I was only 8 at the time, so I don't remember it too much, but I do remember that none of them spoke to one another. Their mom said "Bob, Julie, and Ann are up for training today," and that was it. I remember thinking, she didn't act like a mom at all.

In fifth grade the first one stopped coming to school. When I asked them what happened to him, they said "He isn't around any more." Gave me the chills. At the time I thought their mom killed him; I still don't think that's too far from the truth. They kept disappearing, though, and when the angels started attacking there was just one left.

"I also remember that other guy. He was always really friendly with everyone, and everyone at school liked him. The one who got picked to be the pilot. He was never smug about it, but everyone at school recognized him as a hero. The teachers exempted him from tests and he got away with tons of absences, but he never flaunted it. He just said stuff like, 'yeah, I go into the robot, they tell me to shoot, I shoot.' That's how it started, anyway. After the fourth or fifth attack, though, something changed. He became less talkative, and whenever anyone brought up his job he wanted to change the subject. Eventually he started obsessing over the eva units. He was convinced that something wasn't right about them, and nobody would tell him what it was. Then the ninth attack came. I didn't see what happened, since I was in the shelter the whole time, but he wouldn't say a word after that. He killed himself the next day, leaving a rambling suicide note about his mother, who's been dead for a while. His dad found the journal he kept, and I was lucky enough to see parts of it. There were some seriously twisted photos of unarmored eva units, and some excerpts from an 'experiment log' that really made my skin crawl. I wish I had just stolen the thing, because when they found it in his dad's possession they took him away and confiscated it.

There's a lot going on at the base that they don't want anyone to see. I caught a tiny glimpse of what they do there, and now I honestly wish I had just minded my own business."

Intelligence is overrated. No really, it is. And while we're on the subject, sod off, egghead. Didn't mean anything by it, mind you, but sod off anyway.

See, the problem with intelligence, REAL intelligence, is that it makes you curious, makes you want to know about- well, everything. Problem is, we've put the same spin on it that we put on alcohol and fags- mainly that it's a good thing to be intelligent, especially with all the evidence to the contrary. What, you think that all this 'civilization' is a good thing? Or should I be grateful that 'intelligence' is what gave birth to me? 'Test-tube grown lad makes good as an EVA pilot'. Fuck that! Odds are that we wouldn't BE in this mess if we weren't so bloody intelligent. You NEED me because somewhere along the line, someone with enough intelligence to have a wrong idea fucked up, and you needed a spare pilot. Can't train one in time, so you grow one more, make good, simple is as simple does.

Thing is, I don't mind being simple. I -prefer- to live by instinct. Sure, they aren't really my own, just emotions and feelings you and your fellow braincases decided to plonk into my head, but sod you. I'll make 'em my own- isn't that what humans do? Humans like I'm supposed to be? You're all smart lads, I thought you'd have things down pat by now. Fuck, this is what I'm talking about. You're so -confident- that your calculations were correct and everything was hunky dory. All your personality imprinters were 100% A-OK, weren't they? Your genetic manipulations? Why, nothing wrong there, let's go home! Coronation Street's on the telly!

Aha, now lookit that, you're being all uncertain now. That's the weird thing about intelligence, innit? One moment, you're on top of the world, all the cards are stacked in your favour- but the next thing you know, someone's pulled a leg out from under your house of cards and blimey, turns out you needs both feet on the ground to build castles in the air! You're buggered so bad, people'd start thinking a 'Trojan' was also some kind of hat!

Can't beat out sheer animal instinct, I tells you. Do you know how it's like, being in that little tube and letting your mind go free? All of a sudden, I'm not a 'human' being anymore, I'm a fucking animal. Sounds are more dictinct, the faint smell and taste of blood grow stronger, and all of a sudden I'm drinking blood. Pissing it. Shitting it. My mind and body, both soaking in my self-made filth. My spine's turned into red-hot iron, and me blood's pulsing lightning. The red haze covers my eyes, and my body dorwns in adrenalin, as I shut my intelligence off. I'm not some, some, -thing- from a lab anymore, I'm a fucking animal in all senses of the words

No, I'm a beast, taking what I want from something weaker than I am. I don't care that I have to go for psych evaluations after every battle, or that I have to undergo invasive surgeries just to check up on my physical status. I don't care that people look at me like the freak of nature I know I am, or that fucking hot bird I had my eyes on is getting engaged to a regular human. I don't care that I hate myself for acting like some emo fuck, or that I'm too much of a coward, or maybe an addict, to just end it all. When I kill an Angel, it's as much rape as it is murder- and the violation feels good.

I'm stupid, I'm mindless- and I'm free. Oh Jesus Lord, I'm free.

And that's why, Mr. High-And-Mighty Principal Sir, I skipped school Monday.

If you did, people would not only get on the "Your using devils magic to fight them!" angle but the "Wheres God huh? Of course, the wild internet theroy that NERV is protecting the mother of demons 'Lilith' from divine retribution is just insane. Surely it was made up by some nutcase. (and not, say SELEE.)

The first prototypes were crude, unwieldy things, barely able to take two steps without something failing, detaching, and leaking all over the place while we pulled emergency shutdown.

The two test types were better, much better. By then we knew how to assert control, keep things together. They only berserked once during first activation, and bakelite calmed em' right down.

Production types were the best. Most of the bugs had been worked out, there were backups and emergency bolts on everything, and battery power lasted more than twice as long. One of them even had a built-in N2 mine. Never had to use it, but there it was.

Mass Production brought us a whole load of problems. EVAs aren't meant to be cloned outright; they're supposed to grow on their own. Be unique, or something like that. Still, around the 4th or 5th we got it under control. Slight variations, nothing that really made a difference.

Refinements started to swing around once we had the 9th. We had special-purpose units, EVAs primed for aerospace operations, undersea combat, AT-countermeasures. Even had our own version of the S2 Engine. Bastards called it S1.1, the 'new antimatter'. Pure technology, none of that bio-Angel stuff. Not as good, but not as prone to blowing the hell up either. We were on the 21st 'messenger' by then.

Now? 43. NERV has branches in 18 countries. Smallest one has nine EVAs and eight backup pilots. Pribnow Chambers keep passive AT Shielding around every major population center. Geo-drop can deliver a team anywhere in the world in fifteen minutes. NERV Central itself has been moved to the Moon, linked right to the planet by a Dirac Reflector. Average response time to an Angel attack is thirteen seconds. MAGI pinged the last within three meters and had it covered in N2 fire a minute later. One casualty. Pilot knocked his head on the plug door getting out.

Some people don't think the Angels will ever go away. That we'll never be able to defeat them. Know what I say? Keep em' coming. I've got kids to feed and NERV gets them steak every tuesday.

Of course I remember the day the suits came into my classroom and asked for *CLASSIFIED.* Of course, I didn't find out why until after the first battle. It was later still when us teachers at *CLASSIFIED* learned that all our students guinea pigs of NERV's pet project; the school, their pen. About half of us walked out. The half who stayed, we thought we could somehow help. At least maintain an air of normalcy for these UN sanctioned child soldiers. But it's hard. Every time the sirens go off, we watch helplessly as a suit escorts our students. And every time they come back, they've left a little bit more of themselves inside that. . .thing they pilot. And if they don't come back? Well, next siren, the suit escorts out a different child. I can only imagine what it must be like for one of them. . .

Sub Processor DM. You offically have my attention and respect. not as much as BMJ, but Ive seen a lot more of BMJ's work then yours.

The image of a world where angel attacks have just become a part of life, and what would happen to kick off a campagin (something along the lines of the angels abruptly getting WAY smarter about things rather then coming in fat and stupid I expect.) fills me with anticipatory fear. Also, love that guys attitude. "Some people file paper work, others shovel shit, I help kill the messengers of god, same deal."

I always wondered what would have happened if there was no last Angel. If the end never came, and life went on. In such a world, the population in general would have accepted infrequent Angel attacks as normal. They would expect NERV to be fully equipped to defend them from anything and everything that came along.

And so, the stage would be set for an event on Second Impact scale. The appearance of an Angel even more powerful than Adam, that eats EVAs like candy. The awakening of Lilith, beneath NERV's primary base, rendering all in the vicinity into LCL and beginning procedures for the planet's absorption. The outpouring of Heaven's Host itself, tens of thousands of Angels all appearing at once across every sky.

    Glorious.

    >>8487658
How do we know ADAM was that powerful? We know that ADAM's sealing caused SI, but that involved the lance. I would have pictured ADAM as essentially an armorless Eva with horrific ATS. Back more on topic, Why have it be hopeless? Why not have things just be desperate, mostly becasue (irony here) NERV COM didnt take the threat seirusly until things got out of hand? "We lost the first responce team." "Send in the second, third, and fifth teams then." calm not to worryed. Now once 4-5 teams have bit it, then you get Third Angel JSSDF level panic. Stick ADAM on the moon, with bits of lilith scattered at each of the earth bound NERV's to keep em guessing. Then have the PC's realize that theirs is the last team left, and that means eventually the Angel/s are going to check all the NERV sites on earth, and realize where the prize actually is. rather odd combination of scavengeing S&R to get more equipment and manpower together and a final showdown on the moon to stop whatever the angel/s took down the earth.

Though the Biblical "tens of thousands of Angels all appearing at once across every sky." is a nice image, playable its not. Could work as a suprise "GM is bored now, players are bored now, game ends." (Angels fall, everyone dies?)

Well, I'd guess Adam was supposed to be just as powerful as Lilith, the god of the White Moon to Lilith's Black. Since we never see either being act entirely on their own, it's up in the air.

Desperate can easily become hopeless. Whichever works best at the time.

Endgame, no matter which form it comes in, is always endgame. Third Impact is the last act of the Campaign. The GM is free to bring it about in whatever manner he chooses. Unique is good.

I was there when the N2 mine dropped. Non-nuclear they call it, those scientist guys. Gotta be a lie. The commander told me not to look, said it'd hurt. I did anyway. Couldn't see for days afterwards.

But it wasn't that that hurt. No.

It was the 18 VTOLs, 25 tanks and innumerable ground crew that were in the blast radius that hurt the most. I had been amongst them, just minutes before. Until the giant, flailing 'thing' sent a large piece of shrapnel thorough my right shoulder blade. Getting a medivac had been welcome. Starting to wish I hadn't got it. All my friends were in that blast.

They said it had been a last resort. Just in case these NERV people managed to fumble the ball. Wasn't going to happen, they said, just a precaution.
Those NERV guys have a lot to answer to. Their job was to protect us from something we couldn't protect ourselves from. If they screw up- Screw up again- we're all dead.

And I doubt it'll be some nice instant vaporization for the most of us.

The funny part is that that's probably a much nicer future than one in which the Angels are stopped before Third Impact. I might run a game like that, just for the dissonance when, after going to X-COM grade shitpit to hyper-regimented NERV employed to its fullest with technology considered impossible even years ago, a colossal fuckup knocks them all back to X-Com shitpit.

For now, though, we're working on the conventional setting. Once that's in place and sent out the focus will shift to alternates, including WWEVA, different technology levels, and this, since it'll take more upgrades in tech to forestalling 'maxxing out'.

Raashid smiled wearily, sympathetically "I agree that this is wrong on," he paused, with a momentary look of helplessness in his eyes "more levels than I understand. However, the fact remains that Commander Ramsey, in his," another pause, "infinite wisdom, has seen fit to have us participate in the Inter Nerv Eva Dance Competition. It is my job to trust and follow his orders, even his crazy ones, to the best of my ability."

"You're still not getting me in the plug," Sunny backed away slowly, shrugging off Raashid's scarred hand on her shoulder. "I-I-I don't even know how to dance."

"No one does." <i>Except for Unit 13</i> Raashid left out. David still had no idea what his Eva had done, but damn if it wasn't the best breakdancing he'd ever seen. Raashid looked around, then lowered his voice before continuing. "Listen, I think it'd be a good idea to keep someone here in case of an attack, so it's fine by me if you want to stay. We'll bring you something back from Russia."

Just then, a Nerv intelligence agent approached and stood at attention. "Sir, we have the reconnaissance report on the other branches." He handed over a folder.

Raashid skimmed through the papers, and stopped at one for a few seconds, his eyes growing wide. "The Germans are 'blinging out' their Evas?! Doctor Solomon," he tapped his comm bead, "get to work immediately on Eva bling."

Over the bead, the old man replied "Eva Bling? Ho-ly Gad, I've gat jest da ting! I'm on it, Cap"

Raashid strode briskly towards the Eva bays, Sunny and the intelligence officer completely forgotten. "By God, we are going to show those Germans who owns the dance floor."

It was shortly after the German team had taken to the floor that an angel showed up to attack the Moscow base. Sensor data captured at the scene showed that it was tougher than any angel to date, and if it had had time to engage it would have made a stiff fight for all concerned.

However, it barely had time to spread its AT field before it was fatally served. Pieces of its core, shattered by its humiliation, were mounted on gold chains and presented to the winning bureau.

As it only has a core and a brain of an Evanglion, Limited Production Evangelions are commonly seen in border outposts, small countries, and in research facilities. Their nuclear battery offers longer life than a conventional ion based battery, but unlike the S2 engine, it is not unlimited. Limited Production Evangelions combine the AT fields of proper Evangelions with the cheap maintenance cost of Tridents and other mecha types.

The HMS Illustrious is, simply put, the largest vessel ever created by man. Imagine it, a flying city, measuring more then two kilometers from bow to stern, and weighing more then the entire Royal Navy did before the Impact Wars. She has a crew of over six thousand, plus another twelve hundred NERV personnel. Her air wing is composed of over 300 fighters, bombers, and VTOLs, including some craft never even considered for carrier operations. She has more firepower then the entire UN Mediterranean Fleet, and is better protected then the biggest battleship of the Second World War. Her main railguns are accurate enough to shoot an apple off the head of an astronaut in low Earth orbit. And despite all this, she was still cheaper to build and maintain then those damn brats and their oversized dolls NERV has us haul around the globe all day.

Sir, have you ever been in a battle? I mean on the front lines, staring your enemy in the face, not ordering a missile launch from twenty kilometers back. Well I have, I was there when Sachiel broke through the outer Paris defense ring. In the time it took our EVA's to reach the front, It had already routed a mechanized division, then went on to destroy over four dozen aircraft, and took more firepower then your entire regiment can dish out, right up to the use of a tactical N2 mine, without being scratched. The UN's failed attempts to defeat the Third Angel resulted in five thousand military and civilian deaths, at a cost of just over a billion American dollars.

Those "Toys" and "Kids" you are talking about defeated THAT angel in five minutes, with minimal civilian casualties, and no fatalities. The Children have to pilot them, because there is no one else in the world who can. And while their peers are working up the courage to ask that cute girl on a date, they are wondering if tomorrow they will die screaming, feeling every wound as their Evangelions are ripped apart by some eldritch horror that N2 warheads barely faze, knowing that if they die, all of humanity dies with them. So I'll ask you to show the Children some fucking respect... Sir.

It ain't easy- or fun. Ever fight off angelspawn? Yeah, conventional weapons don't work so well against them, those little buggers are almost immune to small-arms. we learned that the hard way, now it's all about speed. Failure isn't ever an option though- those kids are all that stands between us and annihilation. I'd say that rates the risk we take to recover them and patch them up so the docs can fix them again."

After all this time, they come running back to me with their twisted trophy in tow, they couldn't hold off the angels even when it was their sole focus. I've always known that the Angels are comparably benign compared to the true enemies of mankind. And now that NERVs funding is flowing to me alone, I'll have a regrettable, but necessary chance to turn my decades worth of fortifications against SEELE upon an entirely more pathetic enemy. You want to know about the Angel War and the pilots, huh? Well listen up then. Take a good look at the survivor's faces just once and you'll know that they have seen and done things no fourteen year old kid should ever have had to endure. We striped them away from their former lives and burnt them up in a desperate battle to protect mankind. We had no choice, it was all we could do just to survive in those days.

Have you ever read the report Dr. Hunter wrote? The one on the results of the Pilot program? There's a reason most of it was never released to the general public. At the end of eighteen months, out of over forty children, five lay dead on the field of battle, five more were sent to insane asylums, six ended up taking their own lives. Nine were crippled for life from their injuries, one of whom never even fought an angel, one of the Evangelions went berserk during a routine synch test and tore out his entry plug. One was turned to goo inside her entry plug when her synch ratio went too high while fighting against Sammael, we never managed to retrieve her, and they just stuck a new recruit in the plug the next month and called it a draw. Three were killed by religious extremists or terrorists trying to "Carry out God's Will" or some crap like that.

The lucky ones, if you can call them that, suffer from a range of minor physical and mental ailments even to this day, twelve years later. I still suffer nightmares from what I put these kids through during the War as their Ops Director. If Humanity could subject children to these horrors, not just once, but over and over, are we any better then the Angels we fight?

    Smoking or steaming breath/eyes/skin
Bleeding pores (leaving a trail of blood behind you constantly, flicking blood everywhere when running/fighting... sweet)
Hole in the throat that whistles when moving
    Backward bending legs

"stressful doesn't begin to describe our ops. Entry plugs aren't exactly designed with the best ejection systems known to man, and you add combat damage and feedback from an EVA on top of that, it's a medic's worst nightmare. We've pulled pilots out of scalding Fluid, had to do battlefield trage on pilots who've had plugs punctured by incoming attacks, and sedate pilots that were trying to chew through their limbs with their teeth. And we have to do that with 40 story tall death machines hurling firepower equivalent to a good-sized world war at each other, with emotionally unstable 14 year olds on one side and unknowable ETs on the other. Add in angelspawn that are damn hard to put down, and it's a recipe for one hell of a job."

"still, there's nothing quite like watching a 40-story tall death machine piloted by an emotionally unstable 14 year old who you pulled out of a entry plug pierced by a 10 meter long chunk of re bar get between you and oncoming death to make you realize that they look out for you just as much as you look out for them. When it's all over, I hope they get out ok. that's all I got to say"

Well, as I said, the actual distinguishing feature for the Eva are pretty wrapped up and solid right now.

Sounds like a good use to me. Epic battles need epic enemies, and coming up with fantastic enemies isn't exactly the easiest thing as a GM. Although, if you have any features on the Eva table that you feel aren't quite up to par with the rest, it'd be excellent if you swapped them out with any of the ones mentioned here >>8495260. Unless your program is way different from any of the page editors I've used for newspaper layout design (hence me empathizing with why you don't want to change what's set), that shouldn't be much of an adjustment.

Each chapter is currently in word doc form for ease of editing right now. When I am satisfied with a chapter, I SCIENCE it into a PDF, and in the final stage combine all of the individual PDFs in order and run it through a page numbering program.

So to answer your question... its not at PDF level yet.

    As a much better answer:
Little tweaks (like a new asset or two) might come down the line.
The Life on the Ground and Second Impact World chapters are getting some nice additions, including more support for anti-nerv organizations to serve as human antagonists.

The entire Adams children chapter is in the process of receiving a major overhaul, from better stats for the canon angels to a completely reworked Angel generation system.

Most other chapters are more or less done, sans tweaking as a result of malfunctions that come up during playtesting.

That for the crunch. Obviously, the fluff from this thread has not been integrated yet. I'm honestly surprised at how much showed up. I was expecting to have to do this another 2+ times to get all the material I needed. I'm willing to bet I have most of it right here, only to be supplemented with things like "damn, still need a good opener for Section X" or that sort of thing.

An idea for the intro of a Spacevangelion Campaign.

Expedition Log Day 132 (est. date January 26, 2080)
We have successfully completed Dirac Jump number 67 and reached the outer fringes of Alpha Centauri, this truly is a historic moment for mankind. However this time spent in relative isolation from the rest of the world made me realize that all this was possible thanks to the Angel War and all the advances it brought forth, namely the S2 Engine and the Evangelion units. Speaking of which, why would the council insist on garrisoning twenty of them on this ship with a complete weapons complement and a military advisor? Its almost as if they expected us to find something hostile in this system.

    Expedition Log Day 138
Our sensors have picked an AT-Field with an unknown pattern, we haven't been able to pinpoint its exact location and out observation crews are already making plans for an intensive sensor sweep. The military advisor asked me to order the pilots into standby. I reluctantly follow his advice on the offhand that our unknown might actually be an Angel, God help us if I'm right.

    Expedition Log Day 138b
Its huge, bigger than we expected it to be, we estimate it to be 2 kilometers long. It just stood there, staring at us with its giant eye. The advisor took over command and ordered all Evangelions to attack. The initial positron bombardment pierced its AT-Field, but failed to finish it off quickly enough, I don’t know how, but 5 of our Evas just vanished by the time they were able to take it down. Analysis from the remains confirms that it has no identifiable core, unlike the Angels that were fought more than half a century ago. We have classified this new At-Field reading as green. I pray for the lives of the missing pilots and I also pray we don’t have to encounter anything as horrifying as that again.

Don't forget that if you want it to turn out as close to "perfect" as possible, every section should have a couple proofreadings by different people, and the work as a whole should be proofed so that you catch any references to pages/abilities that no longer exist and a number of other errors that a full reading shows.

Ideally, the "Same as _______ in Dark Heresy" should be kept to a minimum. Especially for things like talents, moreso than just the general mechanics.

I worked hard and long on this project. Why? It is simple. I know those children. I know they fight, and they shouldn't have to fight. I fought one, in the prototype, and I lost, hard. That is why we worked on these things, so no normal human will ever have to fight against these angels, these messengers from beyond heaven and Earth...

    - Head of Dummy Plug Development, former Eva pilot Richard Spectre.

What is this? This is several tons of steel, atoms, and shielding, put together with blood, sweat and tears. We don't fight directly, we buy time. Our armors aren't mystical, we have some weapons, but we aren't fighters. No, we buy time for civilians to evacate, for the heroes to come. We are the Mobile Infantry of this new age, and we will never back down. Why? If we back down, they die, and without them,... well this place would be hell on Earth, as if it wasn't already was.

That hyperbole is ridiculous. EVAs struggled to kill even one angel, depending on its strength. Usually the reason why there wasn't anything left of an Angel was due to it self-destructing, rather than leaving a specimen to examine. EVAs are actually rather ineffective weapons; the only reason why they are used is because the AT Field makes conventional armies totally useless, and only an EVA can cancel it out. The only EVA that is distinctive in its killing capacity is Berserk EVA 01. Just watch what happened to 00 and 02 when they fought Zeruel. Their combat performance is seriously underwhelming and it's obvious NERV is only barely prepared for half the threats it faces.

Moreover, there was never anything to suggest Angels were *truly* divine. They were most likely previous life forms that were meant to become Earth's dominant species; human beings are the final Angel.

None of that really matters though. So many people miss the point of Eva entirely. This is an ambitious and cool idea, don't get me wrong, but anything meant to make the characters more badass violates the principles of the show, in which human weaknesses and mental sickness are laid bare in the face of apocalypse.

There's no point in fighting back. Soldiers might as well not exist. I couldn't keep a straight face at the soldier testimonials.

EVAs themselves are nothing but pieces in a master plan meant to forcibly evolve human beings, not real weapons. Sometimes I wonder if people even watched the same anime I did.

That being said, although I disapprove of the mood of this project and military gung ho flavor text, since it's a fanwork, it could turn out to be quite interesting. I'll still likely play it when it's finished.

Haven't read that much yet, but do you remember the Jet Alone project in the series? The nuclear powered robot that just walked straight? Or alternatively, there was a robot based off of Jet Alone called TRIDENT in Girlfriend of Steel. Silly as that game was, the idea of a competing government contracted military project to create a "man made" EVA is a reasonable concept.

Honestly, I detest the idea of conventional military forces being worth anything at all besides providing N2 bombs, as it is contradictory to the source material. However, a military project that develops inferior fake EVAs of a smaller size or different design like TRIDENT makes sense in the setting and would allow for there to be a greater number of Angels appearing for military characters to fight against, even though they would undoubtedly be outclassed, considering 3 EVAs struggled so much to take down some of the Angels and won only by luck in quite a few instances.

NERV is terrible at designing weapons. I think even S&WH40K pointed that out. Those regular rifles kill only a single Angel in the entire series, most Angels simply shrugging off any sort of ranged attacks; despite this ineffectiveness NERV is hesitant to engage Angels in melee, and its most regular weapon for that situation... is a knife. Spectacular.

Arm the EVAs properly (as Adeptus Evangelion lets you do), and you truly have the potential for turning them into spectacular killing machines.

That's probably what bothers me about it.
GL was a parody/tribute to Super Robot anime like Gao Gai Gar, (which was a reaction to Evangelion) and Getter Robo. In turn, Evangelion was a reaction to anime like Getter Robo and Mazinger. It is meant to be the antithesis of what GL is, and in my opinion, the two don't really mix well.

Someone like myself, who has watched much super robot anime even before GL came out and made it popular with newfags, knows the score and knows GL is the enemy, essentially, of Eva, and vice versa. Even if they were made by the same studio, what they want to tell you about human beings and the mood they want to instill within you are complete opposites. GL is HUMANITY FUCK YEAH and Eva is HUMANITY FUCK NO.

As you said, the Evas are there to break the AT field. Once that's down, why SHOULDN'T conventional forces be useful?

And even if that's not the case, conventional forces are still useful for decoys to draw Angels into traps or distract it should an Eva be vulnerable. They can provide cover with smoke and explosions for an Eva ambush or retreat. They have a lot of uses that clever players should be able to determine.

    Alright that's good.

One of the things I liked about Evangelion is that the Angels are more like Kaijuu from Godzilla, meaning there aren't really a lot of small mooks and true enemies only appear rarely. Having lots of Angelspawn badass normals can kill is fun from a gameplay perspective but contradictory to the way Eva was structured, I think.

I do seriously wonder if concepts such as the Instrumentality made it intact to the game. What about the Mass Production EVAs? Is SEELE okay with NERV arming their EVAs to the point at which no Angel could conceivably reach Central Dogma and contact Lilith?

They did, and if this whole project is any indication they did not, by and large, care for it.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I personally prefer what's going on in this thread to the original concept, or at least the direction in which the original concept went after the first few episodes. A story about humanity solidifying in the face of catastrophe is, to me, preferable to a story in which that catastrophe has been orchestrated by a cabal of autospecicidal maniacs from minute one, particularly one in which their victory is somehow preordained. Really, what did all of that psychological faffing about in the show accomplish? Judging by the fact that none of the characters ended significantly different than they started, and that the world ended anyway, I'd say not a hell of a lot. Maybe you personally thought that the depressing inevitability of it was cathartic or something, but I just found it inane, particularly since the entire affair could most likely have been avoided if two of the characters (you know who you are) had screwed once or twice.

tl;dr, We'll enjoy Eva our way. Please don't make a fuss over it.

    > Honestly, I detest the idea of conventional military forces being worth anything at all besides providing N2 bombs, as it is contradictory to the source material.

Then you will he happy to know that conventional forces simply cannot by any means harm an Angel so long as its AT Field is up (though if its AT Field is notoriously weak, they might get a very small window of opertunity to take a stab at dealing cosmetic damage through sheer volume of fire).

However, keep in mind that the pallet gun is designed to fire large tank shells rapid fire. Obviously, it was still a crap weapon (a tradition that Adeptus Evangelion's Pallet Gun honorably upholds). But it CAN harm an Angel under the right circumstances.

If the Angel's AT Field is completely neutralized, multiple tank squadrons firing at once have a decent chance of inflicting small amounts of damage on the target. Though you still need the Evas to lower the AT Field in the first place and any Angel worth its Core can wide out whole tank battalions in a round or two.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not here to wage war on your idea or anything; I just wanted to voice my opinion of the flavor and writing going on here. There is potential in the idea, which is why I thought the idea of a MP Version Eva would be decent. I hate to compare anything Eva related to GL, but it would be like making Grapals off the original Gurren Lagann design.

Also, have you seen the anime Rahxephon?
It's not related to Eva, but perhaps some useful concepts could be borrowed, considering that in plot structure and themes it is often regarded as a "positive" Eva. The concept of overtechnology appears in a lot of anime. If the capacity to outright kill Angels before they self-destruct is higher in AE, then there will be more Angel specimens for NERV to examine. Since EVA are fundamentally similar to Angels, it would be possible to make an overtechnology device on a vat-culture angel to allow normals to pilot it. (Like the Vermilion in Rahxephon.)

I understand that the mood of the series was oppressive and it put off a lot of people, but that was purposeful. Eva was never meant to be a straightforward alien invasion series, and it's too bad you didn't enjoy it, but don't expect from the series something it was never meant to provide you with. If however you want to change it into such a story, then I'm definitely fine with the idea.

    > I do seriously wonder if concepts such as the Instrumentality made it intact to the game.

It did, and I think the way that Third Impact is handled in AdEva will be more or less indicative of AdEva as a whole.

The entire final chapter of Adeptus Evangelion is "Third Impact and You". It describes what Third Impact is, and several ways in which it may be triggered depending on whether Adam, Lilith, or both are awakened and by who and through what means.

Human Instrumentality is clearly one of the possible Third Impacts. But it is not the ONLY one. You might screw up and have the Angels revive Adam. And Angel might get to Lilith and, in a suicidal act, fuse with her in an attempt to kill all Lilith Based life on the planet. Lilith might wake up and decide that this whole "humanity" thing was so not what she was planning on making its not even funny and decide to start over. And those are just a few.

That is the Adeptus Evangelion I created. Anyone who wished to make a carbon copy of the Evangelion series as their campaign will find that all of the tools are there for it, though finding players who won't deviate from the script may be difficult.
However, AdEva also gives you more than enough freedom to play a game that is the same world, but a different story.

I did not inject GL into Eva, though making a hotblooded pilot is an option. It might even be a fun character. But that character STILL would have to worry about going insane, dissolving into tang or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time when Ramiel decides to fuck you and everything near you.

I just threw ol' Eye Spider at them this week actually. Threw in some EMP as suggested, and it added a nice touch. He actually did a ton of damage, 'cause once you've knocked an Eva down and are right on top of it, you don't need to roll to hit to drool on it. This was the first time an Eva has been damaged enough to retreat and go back down the shaft.

Yeah, some Angels were vulnerable to "small" arms fire. I've often suspected that Matereal's death was just a method of allowing the computer virus Angel to infect the MAGI because it was so easy. There certainly were exceptions, and the consistency of how difficult a battle versus an Angel was varied considerably. Though that doesn't change the fact that even with an AT field down, usually the only thing that effected most Angels was a Progressive Knife directly to the red core.

Well, my point in mentioning overtechnology is that it's a method to allow normals to interface with an EVA-style organic weapon. I can't see it being anywhere near as powerful as an actual EVA, and I imagine they might be half the size of a normal one, but like the Vermilion, it could be a deadly weapon if there are "mook" mini angels or angels with multiple bodies. That's the closest I could see mass military coming to be effective. The idea might also be a way of bypassing the scary level of control Dummy Plugged MP Evas offer to SEELE, explaining why their plan did not succeed in its original form-NERV bypassed them with independent research.

It also adds potential for some really horrific situations, such as an Angel attempting to re-absorb its material with the pilot still inside.

    Blargh, what am I saying?

I should have remembered this sooner, but even the armor an EVA wears qualifies as Overtechnology. Restraining devices and such through which human beings can control the EVA are necessary for the pilots to synchronize with them. (Though perhaps that is superfluous in the case of Shinji and 01)

In any case, I do like the idea of inferior MP as it's a strong staple of any semi-realistic super robot anime, such as Gunbuster and Shin Getter Robo.

Retreating slows down gameplay considerably, and many players like to take the "Suicidal" drawback, which makes it so that ODs have to spend fate on forcing them to pull back, and they need a special talent for it.

In fact, I believe one of the current groups had the OD telling everyone to do a tactical retreat, but they pressed on regardless.

I thought so, but retreating is always an ugly option in the eyes of players, so I can definitely understand why they'd do that. I just remember all the times Asuka and Rei were fucking useless and it all fell down on poor Shinji's shoulders.

I understand that NERV is substantially more competent at combined arms and tactics when players and DMs have influence over the setting, though, and they certainly aren't necessarily more well-adjusted pilots if they have the "suicidal" trait, jesus.

On the subject of Ramiel, and his canon death-by-particle beam:
Back of the envelope calculations show that a 10-megaton thermonuke within half a mile of any angel in the series would vaporize it.
Ten megatons being the lower bound of required power to guarantee a kill, plus a hefty order of magnitude of breathing room.

    >>8500078
    Yes, yes it does.
Ramiel was killed by, at most, 2 terajoules of energy, over an area of at least a square meter.
    That's not terribly much energy.
    >> Anonymous 03/09/10(Tue)23:36 No.8500455
    >>8500078
    Let's start from the top:
    We have Ramiel.
Ramiel dies against a glorified LHC firing with all the energy in japan, which adds up to, at most, 200 gigawatts, 300 if we're being generous and assume MASSIVE amounts of new development.
The gun takes 10-15 seconds to charge up for a shot. This gives us an upper bound of 4.5 terajoules, though more likely 3.
A megaton is 4.2 petajoules, or a thousand times that upper bound; at point-blank, Ramiel would be a loosely associated vapour.
At ten megatons, Ramiel wouldn't need to be closer than half a kilometer and would still be crispy.
A Tsar Bomba operating at maximum design specifications (100+ megatons) would kill any angel we see in-series within a kilometer of its detonation, no questions asked.
Delivery of those bombs is another question, but one which wouldn't be too terribly difficult to answer.
And frankly, it's not like Evas themselves do less collateral damage. Well, less than the Tsar maybe.
    >> Anonymous 03/09/10(Tue)23:46 No.8500635
    >>8500455
Assuming a pure fission bomb rated at 100 megatons, you'd only need about 4.2 tonnes of U-235, less than half the weight of an MOAB, for instance. Using modern engineering and boosted fusion design, you could probably get a hundred megaton bomb in under 10 tonnes.

Its not like that, at least for us. We've been worked ragged keeping those Evas and their equipment fighting fit, so the higher ups let us watch to see it all in action in real time.

At the start, you're nervous obviously, fate of the Earth at stake and all, but then you see those kids turn it around, and you cant help but cheer em on. Remember that last attack? When the second unit finished the Angel off with a hard left jab and a uppercut? Yeah, the military big wigs and the egg heads all nodded their heads, wrote notes down, and assessed the damages. But us down in Engineering? We went nuts, totally. There were party hats, noise makers, and I think one guy had a stereo blasting what I can only describe as victory music.

Believe me, we worry just as much as everyone else, but when you've got a hand in it, you get your own satisfaction out of victory, even if you're not in the cockpit."

Ah, and you're making the assumption that antimatter somehow magically has no fallout or radiation.
Newsflash: antimatter is as messy, if not messier, than a conventional nuke.
The amount of energy released by any antimatter warhead of significant scale would cause the generation of massive amounts of unstable particles, quark soup, and nasty, messy cascades of matter and antimatter moving just below c for hundreds of miles around.

    Precisely.
The only reason that the Angels WEREN'T destroyed by liberal application of the world's nuclear arsenal was that SEELE didn't want them to be.
They needed the Evas to advance their plans, and it just so happened that Evas could destroy angels with slightly less collateral damage than the necessary application of nuclear energy would entail.

I thought the primary output of a matter/antimatter reaction was photons (ie: light). Granted, in a enough quantity to melt you face off, but still.

And the N2 DID have something like a large-scale EMP effect. Thats easily explained by the after-effects of an antimatter explosion. Less easily explained by a scaled up Moab.

I'm all for the N2 being the post-nuke nuke. But i dont see what that 'conventional' explosive cant be antimatter.

besides, when combined with the positron weapon it combines for a nice, solid theory of what can and cant get past an AT Field.

It probably isn't the greatest science, but neither are giant robots in general. Wouldn't something that big and heavy sink into the ground anyway?

That... is actually a very good point. Were the Angels never hit with nukes because they were immune or because SEELE didn't want them to be destroyed so easily? I can see it being both ways. I suppose it'd be up to individual GMs (or fans) to come up with their own explanation, as I doubt the show will have any useful information on this.

Selee wanted the angels dead. They couldn't proceed with human instrumentality until the Angel threat was removed.

Granted, they had some ancient prophecy that told them how it should go down in a general sense, but if they could have nuked the Angels away it would have solved their problems with more funding left over to dedicate to building the MP Evas to initiate Third Impact.

I always thought that an AT-Field could be penetrated by any sufficiently powerful weapon. All you would have to do is unleash so much energy that the Field could not deflect or absorb it all; whether you did that with a giant bomb or a giant beam mattered little. Massive explosions and pinpoint attacks could each penetrate a field, hence why both N2 Mines and Positron Beams were used against the Angels.

In the case of the N2 Mine, so much energy was released in the vicinity that some 'leaked through' the Field. With the Beam Rifle, so much energy was confined to a single point that the Field could not dissipate it fast enough, and a hole was punched through it.

I never liked the idea of an AT field's physical manifestation at the Newtonian level being anything more than a basic force field.
Not so much a solid wall of energy as a like a White Hole of sorts for any energy trying to get to its center.
Basically, imagine the center of an AT field as a mountain standing in an open plain, and anything fired at it as a bowling ball being rolled up the mountain.
From the plain below, it's hard to get to the top, but from another mountain, suddenly the playing field is equalized and there's no resistance anymore.

There is more variety in melee weapons, including the possibility of creating weapons similar to the false lances used by the MP Evas.

As for the conventional forces, the OD can buy a few upgrades for them, and I think the TRAIDENT will be statted, quite possibly the best weapon a regular soldier could pilot.

Typical Shinji, not even enough of a man to finish the job. So he kept going, attempted murder every time he felt the need. And she kept coming back, goading him into choking the life out of her because she only really felt alive when he was killing her.

They both want, more than anything, to be alone, just like their greatest desire is to be together, loved by another person. Asuka is suicidal. Shinji is homicidal. But despite their best efforts, neither has the will to accomplish their final goal. So they live, stalking a ruined world, existing in a prolonged state of unlimited hatred and self-loathing.
