You stalk the Su'T'ji's transfigured corridors, shadowy reflections mirrored in the immaculate surface of the obsidian slabs that enclose you. All around you can sense the workers of the Dusk's will, uncountable nanomechanical constructs working in tandem, processing the tau engineering of the derelict science vessel into a tomb worthy of a necron lord.

You are Xeno, the last survivor of the ill-fated expedition that unearthed these immortal machines, afflicted with an impenetrable amnesia and conscripted into the service of the Lady of Infinite Abyss; your erstwhile mistress, weakened by the betrayal of her lieutenant, has chosen you to be an agent of her coming resurrection and finally put to rest the schemes of the treacherous Dusk of Uncountable Suns.

To aid in your quest, you have been elevated to near-immortality, a phylactery throbbing in place of your heart as necron technology gradually replaces your organic body with sleek, enduring metal. Your breast beats with the hammers of industry, the burnished shells of wings caped over your back concealing a veritable foundry for the creation of constructs bound to your will.

Although you can feel your mortality ebbing in the face of the inexorable conversion, you are serene; your encounter with the Weaver, the Lady's personal artisan and fellow ascended being, has shown you that there can still be love without life, in the strictest sense of the word. Your symbiotic scarabs, collectively called Drone, adore you as any child would its mother.

You can feel the endgame fast approaching as you seek out the final pieces of your ascension; three artifacts of great power, secreted away by the Weaver before she entered hibernation - a death mask, power core and resurrection orb, the tools that you'll need to defeat the Dusk and defy the Lady.

    What do?

You evaluate your internal navigation, determining that the resurrection orb lies in the direction of what used to be archival storage, but in its new configuration has become the well of souls - a repository for necron consciousnesses bereft of bodies. You don't imagine that it's very full right now, owing to the relatively small number of necrons brought aboard by the archeological teams, but you haven't gotten as far as you have by being incautious.

The power core is in a chamber called the shadowlight, an archive of sorts if the Weaver's memories are any indication. Both objects lie in the same general direction, while the last - the Lady's death mask - is somewhere behind you in the vault of twilight.

Not for the first time, you pause to consider just how pretentious the necrons seem to be.

You crouch low, firing for effect as the immortals continue their implacable advance. A wave of return fire crashes all around you, cascades of energy forcing your withdrawl, but as you turn to escape the torrent of gauss energy a blast strikes you square in the back! Drone emits a sharp, panicked chirp as you're sent flying, a whole blown clean through you!

Your body crashes to the floor, sparks raining from the gaping cavity in your torso. You're able to manage just enough energy to look down dumbly, rendered insensate by the massive physical trauma. You'd think that with so few organic components left you wouldn't hurt quite so badly, but your body is wracked from head to hoof with the sort of pain that could only come from being split apart at a cellular level and put back together again. Your systems are barely within their operational parameters - any more damage and you would have been forced into a repair cycle, but without a tomb of your own to phase to, it's likely that the immortals would have simply destroyed you on the spot. As it is, you're incredibly weak from what harm you've sustained already and your thoughts are sluggish and clouded, a symptom of cognitive damage to your cranial systems. Diagnostics don't detect any corruption of your mnemonic sectors, however.

Given your diminished capacity, you have trouble locating Drone's telemetry. It's leading the immortals on a merry chase, luring the soulless war machines away from your location and staying just one step ahead of them. When the claost is clear, the scarab will try to return, but not until it's sure you're safe.

With some effort you manage to sit up, looking rather the worse for wear given your condition. Sparks still flicker from the crater in the back of your head, and although your rib cage has partially reformed, much of the inner workings beneath are a shattered ruin. Your limbs are heavy and it hurts to think.

Where are you, anyway? You can't access your navigation system - probably damaged by the blow to your head - but your surroundings don't seem familiar at all. You gaze dumbly around the expansive chamber, but it eventually comes to you; you've seen this place before, in another life and from a different perspective. This is the well of souls.

You're near the bottom of the chamber, laid out in an open sarcophagus. Ordinarily, you'd wonder why you came here, but the ability to do so is just beyond your cognitive abilities at the moment. There was a reason to be here, wasn't there? You were looking for the Weaver! No, that's not right... Was Weaver supposed to give you something?

Unsteadily, you swing your legs over the side of your slab and stand.

Your hunger sated, you begin to repurpose the raw material into meaningful repairs, molding the necrodermis to suit you. The Your ruined torso reforms, throbbing with emerald light as your phylactery resumes its steady, rhythmic pulse. Armatures clatter and flex within your breast, ready to build once more and the damaged mechanisms of your wings become whole.

Your regeneration isn't without consequence, however, as your appearance becomes increasingly mechanical. Flesh greys and withers, clinging tightly to your burnished endoskeleton before finally turning to dust. The rot reaches as high as your breastbone before finally abating, climbing no higher across your neck and shoulders and leaving your face unmarred.

Idly, you wonder if Weaver could design a more aesthetically pleasing body than the utilitarian battle-form you've subconsciously designed for yourself. Maybe when she wakes up in a few millennia.

It's not so different from before, although you'll have to get used to the metallic click of your hooves against the onyx floor. Tasking a compartmentalized segment of processor cycles to explore your new body, you instead focus on the task at hand - locating the resurrection orb.

You spread your wings and ascend to the top of the well, gently plucking the resurrection orb from its place above you. The milky green sphere swirls with inner radiance, suffusing every fiber of your being - even the organic parts - with an electrified sensation. Closing your hand around it, your surprised to see that the orb actually compresses, impossibly reducing in diameter until it sockets neatly into the palm of your hand.

Holding the artificial limb before you, you curiously flex each articulated digit around the integrated orb, testing the range of motion. Sparks jump from fingertip to fingertip as the orb throbs, mating with your systems and bringing you that much closer to defeating the Dusk.

    One down, two to go.

With the resurrection orb acquired, you take stock of your network components only to discover that your modified carbine has gone missing - no doubt, it failed to accompany you when your body broke down into its nanomechanical constituents. The staff, however, summons into your hands simply by closing your fingers around its ephemeral staff, materializing in a crack of viridian lightning. You still lack the capacity to use it properly, but it has a keen edge and a long reach, so you figure that you can put it to good use in a pinch.

In retrospect, passing up on a built-in gauss flayer may not have been a percentage play, but there will be plenty of time for recriminations later.

The Lady has forgotten that Weaver once loved her enough to accept this unlife without hesitation. But we remember. We know that Drone is Love. This is the universal constant that serves as the foundation of all our logic, the unprovable truth from which all other theorems are derived. That is why we do not fear her plans.
