    Oh lawdly, Part 44 already?

You are (ONCE AGAIN) David Lister, Lt Commander for the Principality of Zeon. Ace Mobile Suit pilot and commander of the MS Team for the elite Nachtmaren Unit.

Currently you're in Eastern Mexico, trying to stave off a Federation push into the US from South America.
After a heavy battle in Chihuahua, you headed east to try and attack a federation force in the rear.
Unfortunately you encountered heavy resistance and your mothership, the Zanzibar Kai class ship "Outer Heaven" was forced to dump it's MS compliment and escape.

You're MS was still under repair when the combat drop went down and you lost contact with the MS compliment over the village of Don Martin.
The Outer Heaven escaped the combat zone and landed on the open plains to the North East of the village. However, sporadic contacts with local air assets have revealed aside from the fact that friendly air assets are losing the battle against the enemy, enemy ground forces are descending on the town in a pronged assault.

Your Dom has just finished being repaired, and your on your way to hanger now.

Okay you load up and dpeart from the landed ship.
The plan is to meet up with the friendly forces, lead the enemy into a good spot, and then mount back up on the Outer Heaven whilst it pops the dam.

    Sounds good?

Keep in mind that whilst some stopgap repairs have been made, the Outer Heaven is still damaged, and a concentrated air attack may destroy it. So as the air battle deteriorates further away from Zeon, the worse the Outer Heavens odds of being able to extract you becomes.

So time is highly of the essence.

    Good point.

A further suggestion: As we are so big on combined arms, shouldn't we get an organic infantry unit as part of Nachtmaren? A platoon and maybe a couple of Wappas should fit on the Outer Heaven. And now that we are Lt. Commander we may have the rank to pull that (plus we have Garma's ear of course).

Yeah it's got its own mothership and everything.

You are currently heading south west towards the last known contact with your Recon specilist Calvin Hobart before his Dodai riding E-3 Zaku went down.

The terrain is open, scored by trenches deep enough for your suit to be partially obscured by. You keep alert and scan the horizon for any hostiles. In the sky you can still see the air battle continue, as well as numberous black plumes of smoke from fires. It looks like large portions of the woodland areas in front of you have been set on fire. This might make travelling to the Dam difficult.

    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 03/07/10(Sun)13:54 No.8452924
Basic plan: meet up with Elaine and Zol. Use superior speed of the Doms and Gouf Custom to bait the Feddies into following us into the riverbed. Pop the dam, rendezvous with the OH.

If that would take too long, or if Zeonic air cover is about to completely disintegrate, pop the dam and extract the unit, don't bother with luring the Feddies into the riverbed.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/10(Sun)13:59 No.8452980
    >>8452924

Shouldn't we all stay together once we link up? If we leave the support unit behind while we do such a high speed maneuvre the Outer Heaven will have to land twice to extract us all. I'd rather not have half the unit stranded behind enemy lines because Fontaine deems it too risky to touch down a second time after popping the dam.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 03/07/10(Sun)14:06 No.8453074
    >>8452980
In that case, just go with option 2. While luring Feddies into the riverbed would be nice, it isn't essential; what the dambusting really does is it cuts the Feddie supply lines/line of retreat, and if we're really lucky also washes out at least part of the road they're currently using.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/10(Sun)14:18 No.8453250
    >>8453074

I'd say yes, we just rendevouz and wait for pick up. Until the Outer Heaven arrives we have the support unit shell Don Martin (hopefully they are already doing that) and engage any Feddie units that advance on our positions. Hopefully that will slow them down a bit and leave them more exposed to our dam busting antics.

Sorry, I had to go for dinner, and then I didn't feel well.

    Anyway.

After travelling at high speeds for about 5 minutes you reach the outskirts of the forest area, whilst the flames don't appear to reached this part of it, you can still see smoke up ahead.

As you journey further inside towards the last known position you come across a large area of forest, ablaze.
The whole area appears to be on fire, and only a small cliff that you had to jump over is preventing the fires from spreading further.

Whilst the flames don't appear hot enough to cause the Dom to overhead or all of the ammo your carrying to explode, it will still strain the heat sinks of your hoverjets and make targeting difficult.
Your infrared sensors will also be completely useless. On the plus side, with all of the smoke, air units will be unable to spot you.

Alternatively you can skirt around this fire though this may increase your journey time. You are still not able to get into contact with the rest of your unit.

You forge ahead through the fire and smoke. After about another five minutes you come across a set of MS footprints in the ground. You spot them because you first notice a 120mm Zaku MG on the ground, there are several small craters about the area, it looks like their was a firefight. Although a closer inspection of rifle reveals that it has been shattered by an internal ammo explosion. You suspect the original owner had to toss his weapons because they were cooking off in the heat.

You inspect the footprints, they don't appear to be of a Zeonic pattern, and appear closer to Federation MS footprints. Like the ones you encountered in Arizona.
They are heading in the general direction you wish to go though.

Choosing not to investigate further you opt to press on. To your left a flock of birds is startled and takes flight. You think you can see movement to the North West (you're heading south-west at the moment)
Deciding that you haven't the time to play with Federation ground forces you move on. Your hoverjets may raise plumes of dust that the enemy may spot, but you don't have time.

You track your way through the sometimes rough terrain following the rough route that the enemy MS took. It appears to be going in roughly the same direction as Calvins last contact.
You follow it for five minutes when you think you spot movement ahead of you through the trees. You carefully use the cameras in your hand as a perscope to try and get a better look. In the distance you can spot an enemy Big Tray battleship and you THINK you see enemy ground vehicles up ahead.

You do not believe that either have seen you yet.

Also, taking down a Big Tray all by yourself is probably beyond even you.

You move away from the tracks you were following and head directly south. Your pretty sure that the enemy forces you've encountered are now tracking you, but they can't catch up with you, and so far you haven't had any unwelcome air attacks from upstairs.

Another 5 minutes of travel and your reach the scene of a large battle. Parts of the forest are on fire, the wreck of a destroyed federation MS can be seen, and after a short period of searching, so can a discarded 90mm SMG.
You find hovercompression tracks that you recognise as from Hovis's Rhino. It looks like after the battle here they left eastwards to the open plains and the Outer Heaven.

God, it WOULD be just your luck that they get back to the ship fine and dandy whilst you get cut off here.

Nothing appears salvagable. Everything appears to have cooked off when the suit was destroyed. Even the armour is shredded, although the frame remains relatively intact. Damn this must be some sweet alloys it's made out of...

You follow the tracks hoping to catch up with your team, also to escape the enemy.

You follow for another ten minutes when you spot a low flying wing of 3 Fly Mantas fly overhead, they make no hostile action against you, but seem to be in an attack run at something up ahead.

Now that you look up you can see a few more planes and a whole lot of flack coming from there.

You pull out your 90mm (no need to use the zook) and spray a burst at them two go down and a third takes wing damage. It loops around and disengages. Before enemy air assets can assign some irritants to you, you break a clearing and see the rest of your squad.

Most of the flak fire appears to be coming from the Rhino, which has a wrecked, headless mobile suit strapped to it. Elaine is holding her bazooka but doesn't appear to be firing it, Zolomon is spraying bursts from his 35mm wrist vulcan and a Zaku (who you take to be Corporal Janson) is trying his luck (with little success) at taking down enemy fighters with his shotgun.

You start distributing your extra ammo to the rest of the squad as best your able.

"Remember; tight, controlled, bursts." You remind your squad.
You all spread out but keep on the move, scanning the skies for the enemy.

    Soon, they appear.

Your combined flak fire manages to keep them away for a little while but that just encourages them to come back in bigger numbers, then they start high speed strafing runs.
Luckily by keeping on the move, most of the missiles miss, Hovis takes a couple of knocks, but his newly repaired armour takes it okay.

This goes on for about another three minutes. You manage to kill about three more fighters yourself whilst the rest of your squad has mixed results.

As the bombs and the shells begin to fall you call the Outer Heaven to Evac you post haste. In the distance you see the ship take off.
Explosions shake the ground around you as you continue to keep yourselves on the move. You see an explosion knock Ramirez off the ground, dirt obscures him for a second but after wards you see him up and about, limping thanks to a severed leg cable.

Man, you sure don't miss THAT happening to you all the time.

Your armour is buffetted by a close explosion, and you struggle to stay upright, but the superior thrusters and balance of the Dom keep you stable.
Things are looking bad until several ruby-red lances of light spear two Depp Roggs, causing the rest to scatter.

It's AA turrets firing in all angles, the Outer Heaven comes to your rescue.

    "Commander! Get aboard!" Anita calls.

You all scramble aboard the dorsal and ventral entry ports. As your secured into the hangar, the ship rocks from side to side, sounds like the ships taking yet more hits.

"We can't stay here! All power to the engines, let's get out of here!" You hear Fontaine bark out.

You feel the ship bank sharply as it swings around, and then the familiar sensation of being pushed to the side as the ship accelerates away.

    You disembark shortly afterwards.

By doing that, many parts would remain interchangeable and you wouldn't have to spend so much time with R&D. Not knocking creating new suits, I'm just curious.

The Flipper being either unable to see whatever's going on on the ground or being unable to radio back to us because of Minovsky particles is a real pain. Wappa should do fine. This was back in Chihuahua. Where it strafed the entire feddie push. Meaning companies of AA tanks firing at it. It might be able to take a few 180mm shells, but even a battleship can't stand up to that kind of punishment for long.

Which is kind of ridiculous; I'd think battleships would have meter think hulls at the least, more than enough to withstand pounding from even 200mm shells for minutes on end. I guess they just don't bother because of enemy ship beam weapons that can eat through armor anyway?

In any case the attacks have diverted the forces to Tucson, and forces from either side are redirecting troops there to attack the enemy from the sides when they arrive.

You have about an hour before you arrive at Nuervo Laredo. Anything you want to do?

Find out how fast we can be brought back to a useful fighting strength before we are dropped off ahead of the Feddie push and start organizing a defense to silence this right hook once and for all.

Since the left prong got really hammered and we are devoting more forces against it in an effective manner, I have high hopes for its deflection. Unless the MS we killed was the crazy guy the Wyatt Bandit was referring to, and he has been sent to the left Feddie prong "front". Which would royally screw us over tactical-wise.

Most wire-guided Anti-MS missile systems are too heavy for a Wappa (at least the Fed one's in IGLOO were).

The best tactic for Wappas is to fly up to a MS and directly plant remote charges on it. It is a frighteningly effective method of destruction actually given it could have been used to kill Amuro if it had been remote charges instead of timed.

You outline the plan to Captain Fontaine.

He agrees that after they land in Nuerdo Laredo, and drop you off they'll return to California. From there you'll be working with the defence line.
After the battles over, you'll have to make your own way back to California.

After about an hour of worrying noises you eventually land in the city. You can see Zaku Tanks scurrying around creating MS scale trenches and defensive emplacements. The entire city is a hub of military activity.

You land at 4 in the afternoon. As you and you tech crew disembark, Fontaine salutes you.

"I'll see you California Lieutenant Commander."

    "I'll be there."

With that the two of you turn and march back to your respective commands.

I meant less LOLWUT as in there's more stuff that's actually attempted to be explained or given some sort of justification, even if it is just technobabble. Example, Minovsky Physics in UC is fleshed out and explained in icnredible detail, aiding suspension of disbelief as long as the universe follows its own laws, whereas the writers of SEED and 00 seem to be making shit up with little regard to what it does to the continuity and consistency of the universe.

At least, for now. I'll grant that UC has had a long time to work the bugs out, although the newer ones aren't helped much by their pants-on-head writers.

There remains a distinct lack of omake in this thread. I lack experience writefagging in this setting or I might consider it.
