Dear Corpulen/tg/entlemen,I'm running a session tomorrow. I'd like to have the BBEG scream "RELEASE THE BEES!" and then flood the dungeon chamber the party is in with angry bees as a prelude to the final battle. However, there are no stats for a swarm of standard angry honeybees.TL;DR:Are three locust swarms appropriate for a party of four level 6 characters to represent a shitton of angry bees in DnD 3.5E? If not, what is appropriate?Locust Swarm:Size/Type: Diminutive Vermin (Swarm)Hit Dice: 6d8–6 (21 hp)Initiative: +4Speed: 10 ft. (2 squares), fly 30 ft. I want you to be my DM
Locusts swarms are just fine to represent bees. Go for it.
more of them. hell cut the health by a d8 and add 3 more swarms.
There's stats for a wasp swarm in the Fiend Folio, IIRC. Might be useful to look at...
>>8445527I'm pretty sure they were horrible devil-wasps well beyond what a level 6 party can handle.
OP here again.Would Cloud Mind (psionic ability with a single target) affect a bee swarm? My impression is no.
>>8445586Definitely not.
>>8445593(OP) Psionics-whoring player is going to be pissed. Thank you for your sagely advice.
>>8445611If he gets pissed about his telepathic powers not working on something with INT N/A and Swarm Traits, especially when it's single-target, you could have tons of fun trolling him all game.
Uh, a swarm of bees is going to kill a group of adventurers if they're magic demon bees or not.Unless the wizard gets a lucky fireball on the whole swarm before they get close, that's hundreds of attacks by enemies you basically can't hit, which have a stacking poison effect.
Speaking of bees, this thread reminds me of an idea I had a while back I would like to get your opinions on. I was think of making a wooden breastplate (with Ironwood cast on it) for a druid to wear filled with bees that he has charmed / controls. The armor would be partially hallowed to allow them to bee in it.
>>8445658beekeeper here.if the players do the smart thing and cover themselves as best as they can with, say, a bedroll or something they'll be just fine.
beesmygod.jpg
>>8445658A torch is fine too.
>>8445658My impression is that a swarm only pulls off its attack once a turn.Regardless, we have a psionic caster/summoner and a warlock in the party. There's also a ranger with a blowdart gun and a palladin, but if it seems too broken that can't do as much.Would giving them some torches to light the way even the odds?
>>8445658Wall of Smoke = win
>>8445727To be honest, I've never fought swarms of enraged bees with torches before.I have no idea how effective that would be.
>>8445556Well, there were those too, but somewhere (and I think it's FF) there's stats for a plain old wasp swarm. CR 2, I think.
Wasp Swarm CR2. Fiend Folio pg 1724d8+4 (22) hp, 14 ac, 1d6 swarm and a poison (fort 18 negates) of 1d6 dex.Otherwise, looks close to your stats.
>>8445772well, in real life or in game?because in real life, torches are fairly damn effective. especially if you can get it smoking a lot.a smokestick would be a one hit KO for this encounter.
OP hereHow good are bees at getting under doors?
>>8446152very.very very.unless the door has, like, weather sealing, very very very.I had a terrible experience as a child.
>>8446163So one swarm could get under the door in about 1d6 rounds? Also, how does a splitting mechanic sound for the swarms? Ex: a swarm can divide into two with half the health, each dealing half as much damage, but also able to evade much more rapidly.
>>8446185This plan of yours will be easily foiled if any of your party has access to any Wall spells, especially Prismatic Wall, Wall of Smoke, Wall of Magma, Wall of Fire, Wall of Smoke, or Wall of Force.
>>84461851d6 rounds sounds about right.maybe 2d6 if you're feeling generous, but those bees were coming through FAST.I am so glad I had a rug to throw on that crack. even then, I got stung so bad mang.
>>8446202You mean the bees in general? Or the splitting?
>>8446266In general. A smart caster will find a way to funnel them into a Wall spell and make the entire ploy pretty much a joke. Hell, even someone with Use Magic Device holding the right Wand or Scroll.Prismatic, Magma, Fire, and Smoke walls make the bees not worth mentioning anymore regardless of how its formed.
MAKE THEM CLOCKWORK BEES. MAGICAL CLOCKWORK BEES.
>>8446298and water.bees can't fly when wet. well, they can if they're only a LITTLE wet, but get them fairly wet and they fall.
>>8446298Thanks for pointing this out, bigtime.I'm fairly sure at least one character has prismatic wall. I'm not expecting the party to think of this. They're not the brightest bunch so to speak. However, on the off chance that they do manage to subdue the bees, should I have a shitton of bears/etc ready to charge on in if this fails?I'm trying to figure out how else to dick with the psionic guy at the moment.
>>8446406Bears with a breath attack that creates BEE swarms?
>>8446417
A challanger appears
>>8446406not bees then bears.the guy yells "RELEASE THE HONEY"the players are hit with large amounts of globby, sweet goo.there is a pause. for maybe 20 seconds.SUDDENLY A WALL OF BEES COMES FROM EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY, AND THERE ARE SIX BEARS BEHIND YOU
>>8446406I dunno. Maybe a swarm of Death Scarabs? You could also have the BBEG somehow release in Formians, from MM1 I believe. Or anything with the Hivemind ability.
I wish druids could take a swarm of bees as their wild form. Then two druids could form a crime fighting duo called the bee covered bear.
>>8446467Bears don't eat honey. They eat bee larva in the honey.
>>8446481We need some drawfagging on this one
>>8446487>factoidthat is a complete myth. bears eat both the honey AND the larvae. both are delicious to bears.they also eat the wax. and the live bees.in fact, EVERYTHING in a bee hive is delicious.
>>8446501Everything is delicious to bears. They actually gain all the nutrients they need from fear. And what is more fearsome than a bear, to a bee?
>>8446501>>8446520DC 45 bear knowledge checks
You can also have him release something else with an Intelligence of 1 in a horde. With 1 Int, they're considered mindless, thus no mind-altering effects work.
>>8446556BEAR LORE!
>>8446467>>8446417OP here. I am genuinely speechless and in awe. Bee-struck with awe, you could say.The only things that I can think of that could possibly bee better would bee:Honeycomb Elemental, Honeycomb Dragon. Both obviously shoot bees. Dragon has a bee swarm breath attack.
>>8446659Bee lich
Big Bad gets arms...Made of bearsBears that shoot bees with crossbow stingers
>>8446659Honeycomb Dragon is my next BBEG.
Can't the ranger just calm the bears and make them lethargic?
>>8446659Could also have bees that shoot tiny bears
>>8446798Bee-bears.Are they bears the size of bees with wings, stingers, and poison?Or are they bees the size of bears with biting and clawing?Either way, the party is in for fuzzy death.
>>8446817... I think that the -thread itself- just had a beegasm.not any of the people on the thread, the meta-entity that is the thread.
>>8446836Have a mix of both and i'd say it's win.*thumbsup* You have my approval.
OP HereI don't even know what the hell is going on in this thread anymore, but I made this picture of >>8446417for you.
OP, is the BBEG Arakune?
>>8446978No. He's an incompetent thief that the party is being tricked by the ACTUAL BBEG of the whole campaign into driving out of town...only indirectly via framing for a ton of shit the actual BBEG did.
>I'd like to have the BBEG scream "RELEASE THE BEES!" and then flood the dungeon chamber the party is in with angry bees as a prelude to the final battleOH DEAR LORDI CAN NEVER STOP SCREAMING
Vespiquen, I choose you!
>>8446942In that case, I'm just going to start dumping bears and related material.
>>8447030Because I am an evil bastard. :D
god damn this needs an archive, i laughed so damn hard at the "how fast can bees get under a door" segment
When the villain makes his escape, will he say to his minion "COME, (minion name here), ride the pig!" and then escape on a dire boar with a saddle? And wings?
>>8447054If I ever played in a game where the GM pulled that shit on me I'd probably flip the table over and run the fuck out! D:Pic related: Bumblebunny. Half the bee, twice the bunny.
>>8447059OP here. BBEG of the scenario is now going to burst out through the same door he escaped through five minutes ago on a boar and knock the party to the ground, and ride away screaming.THEN the bears will charge in roaring.
>>8447057I second this!!!!!
>>8446760Please stat and post this once you do it
>>8447144Naw, man. Beelemental. It's special attack is like Fireball. With bees. Causes splash damage with stings and poison.
>>8445556>>8446406Waitaminute. A 6th-level party has access to Prismatic WALL? Isn't that at least a 7th-level spell?
>>8447159I might be wrong. I think I remember looking at it for a second, but I might have just seen it in the sourcebook someone was using to build their character.tl;dr: Disregard prismatic wall, I suck cocks. Full-on bee shenanigans will probably resume.
>>8447159There was a 2e wand that let you build a prismatic wall color by color....
Is this archived yet?
>>8446817Source on this? I had a quick google using the name in the top left, but no luck.
>>8447260No. Do not despoil this beautiful thread. Get out, lest the cultist dumper shows up.
>>8447292oh fine.
>>8447245Yep, just did it.My first time archiving a thread actually, would you like a link?
OP here. posting the wharblbee bear sans text.>>8447321Also, yes please.
>>8447260e621.net search 'bee'. Artist is Melrat, and her lesbian pairings are possibly stranger than Xiombarg's (snail, clam, hummingbird....)
A warlock's Eldritch Blast *CAN* target a swarm of bees and deal damage successfully, right?
>Release the bees!Now that's a good battle cry.
>>8447363BEEHOLD!
>>8447393In 3.5, no. I don't know about 4e.
>>8447393Well, I don't know. Is it an area attack, muthafucka? NO? Well then get that weak sauce out of my face!
>>8447443Warlock would have to take feats/abils allowing area affect of EBlast then?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/8445349/My fellow fa/tg/uys, I apologize for the slowpoke.jpg, I got distracted by some hilarity in /a/.
Honeycomb golem.Covered in holes from which pour endless torrents of bees.
>>8447629But is it big? Yeah, yeah yeah?
>>8447639It's not small, no no no.
Only thing that occurs to me is that generally, anyone with armor will have both the normal armor and a pretty solid layer of clothing underneath, so they should be highly resistant to the bee attacks.wizards, rogues, and such would be fucked, however.
>>8447629>>8447639>>8447653You fucking idiots.
>>8447668You no like honeycomb golem?
>>8447657You've never been attacked by bees.
Next island my pcs run into is going to based around a central volcano surrounded in forest.Bearantula will be swarming the forest and bearodactyl will roost on the volcano. The volcano will be a beehive filled with molten honey.
Ok just checked in on Eldritch blast. It cannot in fact target bees. The only one that might be able to do shit against the bees is the psionic character, who will probably have spent all his points anyway on a stupid astral construct. Troll encounter is go.
1: Purchase box of flies2: Run "RELEASE THE BEES!" on your group3: ?????4: Profit.
>>8447780what
>>8445689>The armor would be partially hallowed to allow them to bee in it.DOHOHOHOHO
>>8447833End item treasure will be a honeycomb that summons a bees swarm.
OP out for the night. Will hopefully return either today or tommorow with reports of how the battle has gone.Thank you for your help, anon.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEES...Or possibly wasps.
