Good day anonymous, and welcome to another day on the front.

You are Private Elaine "Ruubens" Arronax, member of the elite Zeonic independant corps: The Nachtmaren Unit.
You have just performed an emergency combat drop from your mothership, the Outer Heaven after it came under attack by unknown enemies just off the town of Don Martin in eastern Mexico.
    >> Anonymous 03/06/10(Sat)12:16 No.8434775
I thought everyone in the unit got a promotion after Jaburo? I remember David saying that only his included a pay raise. Should she still be a private?

Your CO: Lt Cmmdr David Lister was left behind aboard the ship as his Mobile Suit is still being repaired.

Your MS-09 Dom successfully makes it's attack drop, landing in hilly woodland terrain. There are no immiediate sign of hostiles in your area. But you know there out there somewhere.

Your wingman is Zolomon Ringo in his MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom.

You are supported by a second squad consisting of Hovis Goddard in a Rhinoceros Mobile Armour and led by Jolyne Brande in her Ms-09K2 Dom Cannon.

Overhead on his Dodai flies your recon contact: Calvin Hobart in his MS-06E3 Flipper Zaku.

To your north is the burning town of Don Martin, and one survivor from the Zeonic picket unit: Ramirez Janson in a Zaku.

"Okay guys, let's get to Don Martin and join up with Corporal Janson." You order.

"Roger! I'll try to establish contact with Calvin, see if he's got a line on the enemy forces." Jolyne replies.

You and Zolomon push ahead, making sure the way is clear for the support squad.

Checking left and right in the shallow wooded gulley you and Zol clear the area whilst Jolyne and Hovis catch up.

"I've got a sitrep from Cal, he can't see the enemy units nearby, but the Outer Heaven made it out of the combat zone. Corporal Janson has managed to escape Don Martin and into the woodland area and he's heading this way to rendezvous with us, if Cal sees any enemies persuing he'll feed us coordinates for artillery support."

You continue to carefully make your way towards the town. Five minutes into the journey however the ground to the left of you explodes without warning.

"Enemy close range artillery! Scatter!" Jolyne orders.

"Calvin! Where are those shells coming from!?" You call over the laser comms.

"Got it! It's a single shooter, on the top of the hill 250 meters to the west! I'm relaying coordinates now!"

Throttle our Dom up and move toward the town. Don't stop once we're inside. If that thing can hit us from where it is now, it can from inside the town as well. So get into the town ASAP, and keep moving. Engage any Federation Forces we find, and hopefully end the source of this current unpleasantness.

Move in as fast as possible, and split up when we are fifty meters away, then pincer it. Elaine moves in first, and starts putting 330mm 'zook rounds into it, while Zolomon gets in close during the distraction, and engages, leading with his Heat Rod, then moving in for Gouf-ey Time.

Okay, the artillery team should destroy or keep pinned whatever was shooting us, so us and Zol should head into the city to find the command tank. Ask if the enemy is a known unit; are we looking at a Big Tray, or an enemy MS with a cannon, or infantry manned artillery, or...?

    >are we looking at a Big Tray, or an enemy MS with a cannon, or infantry manned artillery, or...?

From what you can tell it's a single 180mm cannon. Also 250 meters is pretty close, you could cover that gap pretty quickly in open terrain. Even in hilly and difficult terrain like this it wouldn't take you long.
    And presumably vice versa.

If we can get a solid ping on the command tank's position incorporate this into my previous suggestions. Although tbh I'd rather have our Arty hit the Command Tank if possible. Zol and Elaine should engage whatever this thing *Coughguntankcough* is.

We have artillery cover and a two man fire-team working in concert. And both of our mobile suits are considerably faster than essentially anything the Feds can field, to a certain degree. If we have a hard ping we should go for it, and apply large amounts of explosive projectiles and superheated chunks of metal to it.

    Anyway...

Continue evasive maneuvers, and keep putting 330mm rounds on target. Keep its attention on us. Keep it ignorant to the approaching doom that is Zolomon. And if it is not ignorant to the approaching doom due to that Command Tank, keep it so that if it shifts its focus even a little, it dies. So either way. Also, I cannot stress enough how important it is that the moment Zol closes the distance he should lead with his Heat Rod. Not only does it make for the easy kill, but it might might might just let us capture this thing.

It's an RGM-79[G] Gundam Ground Type, armed with a magazine fed 180mm Cannon. It's a Ground Combat Mobile Suit built from spare parts from Project V and the original Gundam. While formidable it is not nearly as strong as its Lunar Titanium armored predecessor. It's nasty, but it's not RUN FOR THE HILLS nasty. It's debatable as to whether or not the Gundam Ground Type is better than a GM Ground Type. It probably has two other such mobile suits deployed with it.

Also, Ruubens doesn't even know what a beam sabre is because the Feddies haven't used them yet. It's possible they've only got them on the RX-78s at this point.

Chance we don't need to take. It's going to have serious issues hitting us. The Dom is way more maneuverable than it. And our 'zook is superior to the 180mm in this situation, in my opinion. Close up it has the trump of its Beam Sabers and its Shield, which is designed to be able to smash the shit out of enemies at close range.

Getting close is a risk, and should be avoided.

The one we're fighting appears to have the 180mm cannon, unless Apologized just picked a shot at random and intends to give it the 100mm machinegun instead.

Or he's just being cruel and it does have a beam rifle, but I doubt that.

    Back.

Your first shot hits it on it's cannon, destroying it. The concussive force of the blast pushes it to the side and you jink to the side to get a clearer shot.

"Zolomon! Come in! I've encountered the enemy!" You call out.

There's a splash of orange flame as a jet of thick napalm spouts out of the Mobile Suits chest area. Trees and grass are instantly covered in thick accellerant though it doesn't reach your Dom. Although he's no obscured by black smoke you fire a second shot off. It doesn't hit, but the blast from the the rocket hitting the hill momentarily clears some of the smoke and you catch the Enemies sillouette heading to your right.

If you can keep him here then Zolomon should be able to ambush him from behind by going over the top of the hill, but the land in front of you is now on fire, also, you think he's armed himself with some kind of machine-gun.

Have Zolomon move in. Put another 330mm 'zook round through the smoke toward it, but not in a way that could potentially fuck up the ambush. Move in, using our Dom's superior mobility to prevent it from getting a solid bead on us. Make it think we're moving in for the kill. Then fade back as Zolomon makes his appearance. You draw your SMG and fire a good spray at the enemy. Bullet's ping off it's armour but it retreats backwards up the hill, still spraying gouts of flame at you to keep you back.

He returns fire with his own machinegun, and you jink to the left to avoid. A couple of shots hit your left leg, but don't pierce the armour.
Similiarly, your second burst bounces harmlessly off his armour. It's pretty tough stuff, you suspect it must be similar to that super-alloy you encountered in Jaburo.

    Dang, it feels longer.

He crests the top of the hill, and uses the elevation to spray your area with more flames, pushing you further back.

Just at that point however, Zolomon in his (pictured) Gouf leaps up behind the enemy, a Shotgun in one hand and an Axe in the other.
The enemy reacts just before Zolomon attacks, and raises his shield just in time to partially deflect the blast from Zolomons shotgun. The shield disintegrates and Zolomon follows through and shoulder rams the enemy down the hill.
He lands out of view to your right, raising a plume of dust.
    The flames are still spreading.

Although we may as well try to land a shot directly on the nozzle of the guy's flamethrower. In-character, we don't have many other options given the Gundam[G]'s armor, and we need to take that flamethrower out; out-of-character, we have good reason to suspect that if Elaine concentrates really, really hard on making that impossible shot and can believe that she can make it, she will make it.

And the 79(G) with a flamethrower in its Multilauncher is actually an interesting idea, but would probably force it to overheat a bit faster due to its lower heat dissipation abilities compared to a GM(G). Not to mention that the accelerent would be highly unstable as well.

As the shells and missiles begin to land you flank the enemy Mobile Suit. It's already up and spewing bullets and flames in your direction as it retreats backwards. Zolomons bullets bounce of it's armour, but one of your bazooka rounds detonates at it's feet throwing it upwards. It lands roughly on it's back and drops it's MG, you close in to make the finishing shot, and narrowly avoid a second enemy Mobile Suit (this one without the distinctive V-fin) as it fires it's Bazooka round from the trees at you.

    "Zolomon! Enemy in the trees!"

"I got it!" Zolomon rushes past you, jumping over a second bazooka shot. You hear the crack of his heat rod unfurling.

You leave him to it as you close in again. The enemy is once again on his feet. An artillery shot clips it in the leg, forcing it to it's knees. Unfortunately, this makes your second shot go over his head.

The enemy suit then starts popping smoke grenades from what looks to be some sort of jury-rigged launcher. You fire a third time and you see him avoid it by taking to the skies on his thrusters.
You aim upwards with your last shot, looks like his luck finally ran out...

Your final shot then goes wide as the mobile suit that Zolomon was tangling with explodes in a brilliant fireball.
You see Zolomons gouf tumble down the hill, missing it's shield but otherwise undamaged.

"FUCK! What the hell happened?" You ask.

"I don't know! I wasn't able to get a decent grab for the shock-pulse, but I was able to take it's arm off just as it was going for it's close combat weapon, next thing I know there's a real bright light!"

As a general thing, don't bother using the MG on these suits unless we're aiming for something very specific: the flamethrower nozzle, one of the joints, a handheld weapon, etc. Otherwise, we'd just be wasting ammo.

For bazooka shots, make them count. Absolute focus zen archery type stuff for each one. "We WILL hit the target, because we KNOW we will hit the target," that sort of thing.

After getting confirmation of Corporal Jansons position you and Zolomon move up, you order the support squad to bombard the last known position of the escaping Mobile Suit whilst you take a somewhat circular route over some hills.

"Okay, we'll bombard for 60 seconds, but after that I'm moving to your position, I'm not risking getting out of radio contact if I don't have to."

You cautiously move ahead, heading towards black smoke and flames. Eventually you reach the rendezvous spot.

"Man, am I glad to see you..." Corporal Janson states as he greets you in his Zaku, it is blackened, covered in soot and scratches, armed with only it's Heat Hawk.

"Well, at least you made it out of this okay." You comment.

"Yeah, the second mobile suit stalked me for a few minutes but then backed off. I managed to get lucky and peg the command hovertank when it broke cover earlier though."

Continue harrassment attacks but ignore the enemy mobile suits. One's been destroyed, there's another confirmed two but one's lost it's primary armanent.

We're pulling a Zeon schoolboy error here and becoming infatuated with KILL DAT FEDDIE GUNDAM when they've already engaged a sizeable Zeon force and are probably in need of rearmanents.

We're here for supply convoys and Ramirez. Let's work towards slowing the entire Federation advance instead of two mobile suits and survive so we can inform IN PERSON Zeon high command of the Federation's advance in mobile suit technology so we're not caught with our asses in the air the next time the Fed's pull a "SUPRISE MOBILE SUIT ATTACK!" on our lines.

Anyway. You give the orders, you're going to finish of these enemy mobile suits.
Maybe you can get lucky and salvage one too!

    "Sounds good sir!"

"Uh actually she doesn't outrank you, it's just that I'm not apparently command material." Zolomon grouses.

"Well you AREN'T." Jolyne reminds him.

"Uh well, whatever, have any of you packing a spare heater I can use? I had to dump all of my ammo, guns and grenades when I got sprayed with napalm earlier."

YOU HAVE A 90MM YOU COULD SPARE, AS DOES JOLYNE, ZOLOMON'S SHOTGUN COULD ALSO BE SPARED SINCE HE HAS THE 35MM TRIPLE BARRELS ON HIS FOREARM. YOUR CHOICE.

So, where do you begin searching. the last known position of the enemy was SSE somewhere. As well as to the N.

To the North is a forest, the forest is ablaze, but it's heat is insufficient to cause your ammo to cook off, the excess heat may cause problems however.
To the east are hills and woodland that gives out to flatlands and trenches deep enough to conceal a mobile suit. The Outer Heaven headed in this direction.

To the South are the wooded hills. Partially on fire, the fire has only just begun to spread though.

To the west are trees and relatively flat terrain (it will catch fire soon) that shortly gives way to the Lake. Follow the lake north, past the town, and you reach the dam.

I didn't intend to combat this prong face first. Harrassment attacks, slow down the force. Soft targets, no major big targets. We're technically in Federation country now, they're got a few companies of all kinds of crap here and two out of three mobile suits with a connection to supplies and support. We've got five to six with a mobile armor but with no support and with rapidly expended ammunition. We're probably battle fatigued as well.

Those mobile suits are going to need to stop and resupply and rest eventually. Cut federation supplies, bug out, get back to our lines and prepare our troops both for standard anti-Federation warfare and Anti-mobilesuit warfare.

Anyway, I say we keep in constant communication with Calvin, and see if we can get a sitrep on enemy forces re: The Dam. If we have a good opportunity to blow the dam, move towards it, and call the OH to assist you.

If not, Apologised said earlier he landed to the north of our position. We would have spotted him if he jumped again. I'd guess our man is probably moving to ambush the OH, so I'd move in a North Easterly pattern.

We hand over our 90mm. It isn't doing us much good at the moment, after all.

And we head northwest. Assuming these suits were the vanguard, that gives us the best chance of blowing the dam just as the actual Feddie division goes by it, while still finding and neutralizing at least one of the Feddie MS.

They've got more than a few companies of crap here. We're fighting near the spearhead of their main push, or so I understand it. There's a huge raging dogfight nearby, and the last place we were, which was merely one of the Federation's other points of attack had multiple Battalion Sized Formations that we did fair damage too. And believe you me, if we could get to their supply line we could. Kemal cooked up this pretty slick plan wherein we pop the dam located to the south of this town, and it cuts most of the major thoroughfares through the area, heavily restricting Fed options.

And this is the second time we've encountered Fed MS in a general area of engagement. There's not a whole hell of a lot of standard anti mobile suit warfare for us yet.

Shouldn't the 90mm be AP capable of piercing the Ground Gundams armor? Pretty sure a Dom messes up far more advanced Feddie armor in 0083 with that kind of gun. Unless they had some really nice ammo upgrade that we dont.

A Gundam built in a (huge) cave, with a box of (very advanced) scraps, I might add. No where near as durable as *the* Gundam.

Higher muzzle-velocity. Better armour-piercing characteristics of the munition used.
Same reason why a self-propelled artillery platform might have a far bigger caliber than say, an Abrams.
Doesn't mean it's the better gun for knocking out a tank though (even if it could probably do it).

    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 03/06/10(Sat)17:40 No.8438512
    >>8438487
The issue is that the 90mm MG has a higher muzzle velocity than the 120mm MG, probably due to the amount of recoil the Zaku is built to take and compensate for. 90mm at higher speed should produce the same recoil as the 120mm at lower speed. And for AP, I suspect speed and shape of the round are more important than the raw amount of explosives you can pack into it.
    >> Researcher Sam 03/06/10(Sat)17:40 No.8438517
    >>8438475
Then use a better/more propellant and start re-designing the bullets for higher AP. Hell, lengthening the barrel should increase the velocity because the gunpowder explosion (or whatever they use to propel the bullets) is contained and focused longer, increasing the push on the round.

Then again, so do the GM(G)s and those things die just as effectively.
The thing about lunar titanium is that its highly effective...for a time, and it can withstand a pretty pounding when compared to the super high tensile steel that Zaku's are made of but it still eventually breaks down and stops being as effective.
    >> Kemal von Hindenburg 03/06/10(Sat)17:46 No.8438578

I don't think the limitation is in the gun, I think the limitation is in the Zaku. You'd need to reinforce the arms somehow to take more recoil before you could up the muzzle velocity of the 120mm.

Now the Dom, on the other hand, could probably handle an improved 120mm MG without any extra reinforcement, but it would just be a stopgap until beam weapons are introduced. Which may be fairly soon.

For comparison, the MMP-80 that we got.

It could possibly have a higher burst or rate of fire in general with a smaller calibre.
Coupled with higher muzzle velocity and/or better AP rounds it makes for an excellent MS killer. Just a quick burst to the cockpit.

Who knows, maybe it's more accurate than the old 120mm thing. Or doesn't jam as much (mag vs drum).

Act nonchalant. Try to pinpoint exactly where the suits are. Lure them into an area where they have to be fairly close to us. Then suddenly turn and each of us charges one. We heat saber ours through the cockpit, Zol uses his heat rod to cook the other one's pilot. Then we grab them and drag them back for extraction.

There's still a decent chance that there's another Gundam [G] out there, and the other two are just driving us toward it. Gundam [G] are usually always teamed with two more Gundam [G]. Since there are only 20 of them. There's a CHANCE we got the odd out Gundam [G], who has two GM [G] with him, but it's still prudent to be wary that the GM was just a GM, and there are three Gundam out there.

The Dom lacks a ground sonar due to it's hoverjets. The Goufs Sonar is a little better, but there's a lot of ambient noise about, partially from your aforementioned jets, but also from all of the fires.

Zol charges in first, only to be blocked by the second Mobile Suit, it's your old friend with the V-Fin from earlier, it brandishes another Machine Gun and fires another burst from it's flamethrower at Zolomon.
Zolomon avoids it by ducking down low and tackling the enemy MS, the two giant warmachines roll about the ground, crushing trees in their wake.

    "GET THE SHOOTER ELAINE! GO!"

You dash forwards with your high speed hoverjets. You spray the area with 90mm bullets, and you see through the now somewhat shredded foilage the other enemy MS, a blackened, ash stained Mobile Suit in a similar design to the one that Zolomon took out before.

It turns to face you and fires a salvo of missiles at you.
You raise your gun and fire a full burst from your 90mm. The bullets intercept the missiles and cause them to explode. Momentarily obscured by the explosions the enemy mobile suit takes a step back.

This allows you time to toss your now empty 90mm and grasp the heat rod in both hands as you eviscerate the enemy with a single high speed pass.

    Behind you the suit explodes.

You cannot currently see Zol, and Calvins Dodai is billowing black smoke as it loops around in circles.

You find Zolomon and his opponent in a runied (and on fire) clearing. Broken trees can be seen everywhere, Zolomons Gouf is on fire in places, and the 35mm lies on the ground ejected. Presumably to stop the flames from cooking off it's ammo.
The Gouf is scored in numberous places, and on fire in others, Zolomon brandishes a Heat Hawk in each hand.

His opponent has a thick rent down one side, his left arm is missing from the elbow down. He is still holding a 100mm SMG and is pointing it at Zol.

You dart in from the side and press the trigger for your scatter laser. Bullets ping off your heavy armour. And then Zolomon is using your MS as a springboard and the his axes bite down clean through the chest area. The blades hit the napalm gun and it explodes sending a shower of burning accellerant into the sky. The suit falls to the floor.
Secondary explosions ravage it, before it;s backpack explodes impressively, it must had had a fair share of ammo in there.

"Wyatt, did you hear the news?"

    "Huh?"

"That ace pilot you were talking about, the one who got sent to the front line, he and his entire unit were destroyed!"

    "Really? The pyro fanatic?"

    "Yeah!"

    "Well it looks like..."

The Bandit reached into his pocket and pulled out a pair of sunglasses. Grinning, he unfolded them and placed them over his eyes.

    "..he ended up getting burned."

Man, do you know if anyone has the full soundtrack to G Gen Wars about? OZ's tune from Wing was pretty bitching IIRC.

I still like this version better though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qumhHYE2_o
