!!iHDhHidYFJx 03/06/10(Sat)11:11 No.8434202A skitter of movement caught your eye as you approached the first leak, but the blindingly bright flow of energy from the damaged conduit prevented you from identifying it. Slipping the heavily tinted goggles over your eyes, you hauled on the bypass valve and sealed the first leak, then followed your stricken companion to the next. This time, you were able to identify the intruders as a multitude of enormous insects, lapping at the flow of plasma as if it were little more than syrup. They scattered almost as quickly, allowing you to seal the second breach with little difficulty.
A skittering, clambering sound built behind the walls of the engineering space as you made your way to the final leak, the strange insects seeming to gather en masse as you hauled back on the final valve. As the flow of plasma came to a halt, a wall of hissing, chittering, silver-backed insects flowed from behind it, giving chase as you made a desperate flight towards the lift!
Momentarily separated from Drone, you bounded over the writhing carpet of creatures to snatch up your confused companion, rolling against the deck to land heavily in the welcoming light of the lift shaft. The doors sealed shut as they crashed against the exterior of the car. Safe, you and your Drone descended towards deck five and your meeting with your erstwhile advisor.
As the lift car came to a halt at your destination, you were struck by the dark and the cold of the data center. Rows upon rows of computer processors, stacked high on racks taller than a battle suit, occupied the majority of the warehouse-like space. The green glow of raw data projected from numerous monitors illuminated an area ahead where you saw the silhouette of the gue'la, but if he had noticed your arrival at all, he gave no sign. |
