It's been eleven days. A you-sized bow has been completed, strung, and broken several times already. You've repaired it as best you can with alchemy, and attempted to strengthen it, but it's not working very well. It shoots beautifully, but you have to be careful how much tension you put on it. At least it's nice to be able to throw arrows around without launching them yourself, since that can get tiring. You've already figured out how to cause them to split to hit a wide area, shatter on contact, and airburst into a shower of shards. Guiding them in flight is problematic, though.
The new people are fitting in nicely, despite the suspicion just beneath the surface. Vasian has been organizing the library according to his own system, which makes everything much easier to find. He has also recommended several books for you to pick up, when possible. The farmers are learning herbology and rudimentary chemistry, and the carpenter has been taught how to operate the sawmill. The children, of course, are in school, where one of the twins is teaching them how to read.
The next trip to Fain netted a load of books, mostly novels, with a text on gems and their worth, several textbooks, and all of Vasian's recommendations that Bem could find. There is precious little science out here in the rural districts, compared to the main cities, but it's more than these people have ever seen. Pots were acquired and taps were made, and you took a few days to go sap-hunting. With Hretmar's guidance you found the closest thing to Maple trees. The sap is not as sweet, but that can be changed with berries and some of the Beet sugar. |
