    93 KB Monsterfluff Thread 3: The ReFluffening From Hell's Heart 02/12/10(Fri)20:59 No.8055976
    Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/7611633/

Well, elegan/tg/entlemen, it's that time again. I want to unwind a little, and how better than by writing flashfiction for hideous monsters? SO, kindly post pictures of monsters or other creepy shit that would fit easily into a fantasy setting, Better if it's something I can attach some mythology to - there are a lot of monsters which, while cool, I can happily slot into my setting by saying 'a wizard did it'.

Naturally other writefags may join me in this endeavour, fitting the monsters into their personally preferred settings or for general use.

Man, I used to have folders full of all sorts of creatures. And then my computer crashed.

Now all I've got left is odds and ends.

    Like, uh, this animated thing.

One of the strange, unnamed creatures from the Winter Sea, this monster is often known to sailors as a Storm Prince. Whether it follows storms, or storms follow it, is debatable, but small hosts of these creatures surface during lighting storms as one nears Outreach. They themselves have yet to prove dangerous, but pods of Leviathea are attracted by their appearance, the enormous flying beasts swooping down to scoop them from the water - or ships unlucky enough to be nearby.

Skolshrikes: Further creations of Ulspeth the Shaper, Skolshrikes are more obviously insidious than Spinefiends. Small, fast-moving, seemingly harmless lizards, Skolshrikes will burrow into the eyesocket of their prey at the first opportunity. Thus enshrined, they split the folds of their scales to spread wiry tendrils throughout the host body. In time, the victim - mercifully long since dead, or so it is hoped - becomes something other. Magic-absorbing horns sprout from the skull, the blood becomes a thick, green, caustic slurry, and a new, crystalline eye forms in the empty socket from which the monster can fire pulses of raw magical energy.

The Last Laugh: Necromancers are noted for their sense of humour. It is, predictably, rather dark. The Last Laugh embodies this fact, a vindictive revenge mechanism employed by less scrupulous Chosen of the Leaden Skull. When a Necromancer feels suitably offended by a party, they will often acquire the head of someone dear to the target. This frequently prompts an assault - for which the Necromancer is more than ready, and will usually flee without ever being seen. All the enemy finds is the head of their loved one - which has the last laugh, just before it explodes into a miasma of Necromantic energies and bony shrapnel.

Watcher On The Rock: The world is full of ancient mysteries. The Watcher is one of them, rising above the mountains near the Valley of the Fallen Sky. When approached, the immense creature sings a song of unrelenting despair in a language which is not understood, but felt, some aeons old tongue which speaks to the very soul. Careful research by Zakha Maleficarum has determined that the creature is a Demon - one of immense power, the likes of which the Inquisition has never witnessed. The beast cannot move, much. When provoked, it will lean over to devour the offending party. More often, onlookers are driven to suicide by its song.

    The greater mourning husk.

Made by entombing the living body of a widowed human into a tree. These creatures grow to enormous size by feeding off the despair of the victims and are shaped by the nightmares it experiences while slowly being absorbed into the beasts mass.

Relatively harmless creatures and not prone to aggression their keening call will echo across valleys constantly causing sickness and "bad luck" to any listeners. Often depopulating the area of any living thing unable to stand the sound or simply kill the tree.

The Ridden: Once upon a time, there was a maiden who hated spiders. A beautiful and much desired young lady, she found the creatures distasteful, an affront to her perfection to be destroyed at every chance. She turned down many suitors, from her spiderweb-free home, though many pledged insane acts, such as finding and killing every spider in the nearby forest.

Until one day, the maiden was visited by a handsome young lord, dark haired and pale like exotic H'kaerian men. She was enamoured, and more, always drawn back by his teasing - with but a few words he always seemed to stoke a fire in her belly...

But he scorned her, time and again. Politely, however. Until one day, he saw her crush a spider in his presence. 'Why?' he asked 'Do you harm them? Do you not know their value?'
'They are ugly' said she, as though this were reason enough.
'I can learn to love you' said the lord 'if you can learn to love spiders.'
    An impossible task?
Perhaps not - though she tried everything, holding them in her hand though she trembled, her face though she vomited, across her naked body as he watched. That time, he talked all along, raising her passions until in frustration, she grabbed a spider, and pushed it into herself, crying out for him.

The act, alas, killed her, for these spiders bore poison, and The Silken Watcher had long despised her for two reasons; ignorance, and hatred of his kin.

    Her ghost split into thousands of spider-spirits, each carrying her lust, rage, and despair. Sometimes these spirits find young women, transforming them into hideous, naked monsters who desperately seek out dark haired, pale young men, screaming;

    "DON'T YOU WANT ME NOW?!"

Rageborn: One should be wary of deals with Demons. The marks of one who deals with The Seething, Earls of the Circle of Scouring Flame, are a slow and purposeful anger. A quiet, calm rage that bubbles under the surface until the Rageborn breaks, their head consumed by fire which provides neither head nor light, spikes of volcanic rock erupting from their flesh. Rageborn are relentless in their pursuit, and nigh unstoppable, their whole mind and body set to the annihilation by fire and talon the object of their fury.

    Burned ones.

Half flesh- half undead the eternal buring are made by lashing together the corspes of salamander and human offspring. By igniting the creatures skull during resurection a necromancer can supply the living flesh of a salamander with the flame it needs to survive while mainting control of its thoughts.

A ritual described as "flame hunting" is one of a necromancers most feared tools, by using an enemy wizards fire to fuel the initial awakening the creature can be made to seek out it's prey without tracks or scent to follow, as it sees only the soul from which its thirst was born and seeks to consume it utterly.

Julian Deslieux: Poor, scarred Julian. Poor, childless Julian. Poor, blasted earth when Julian wreaks his vengeance.

Julian was a normal man, once. Oh, Mage too, but a normal man. A man with loves and vices, with dignity and drive. But Magi often lead such torn and tattered lives...

The Inqusition took his wife from him. Took his daughter from him. Left him with nothing. Left him burned and wasted.

But Julian survived. And Julian went quite, quite mad. He lurks in the ruins of the church where his town once stood, tending a linen-swaddled bundle of shadows that laughs like the muffled echo of a child.

Assault On Hannubar Reach: There is no telling how long the dark host of Kroms worked on the tunnel.
It was all so sudden, when they poured from the earth in a filthy mass, so many miles from their foul nation. The Vampire Priesthood had created a terrible beast to lead the charge, ahead of their subhuman slave-warriors, mutants, and fearsome Twilight Guard. An immense serpent, glowing with unholy magical fire, and mounted by one of the Priests himself - the men of House Ferldain fought bravely to the last, but all too soon Hannubar Reach fell under darkness.

Pandemonium is a place of stark and horrifying perfection. All mortals who wander into Hell are indelibly touched by its power, but those who spend too long on the bleak streets of the Demon City gradually turn to stone - or something like stone. Solid, refined soul-stuff that is slowly chipped away to make coins for the economy of the Pit.

Drunken Advance: The ship of Captain Lorallaeus Cauva, the sailor who swore that with the right crew, he could sail into Hell itself. Unfortunately for the captain, some among the Host found this concept entirely too amusing. His ship now sails the Bitter Sea of Hell, the crew twisted and degenerated by the Infernal Powers. Perhaps one day Lezek, Demon Prince of Pride, will tire of the entertainment, and send the ship back to the world of men...

The Tokosh are a race which were - in antiquity - a forced breeding between trolls and dragons, intended to be used as shock troops in a vast army. At first, the draconic creatures were as expected, little more than scaled, winged trolls with slightly higher intellects. But as they bred amongst each other, they started to change; their genetics... settled, for lack of a better term. The wings became secondary arms, their mouths became larger, their appetites bigger, they lost their ability to breathe clouds of acid, and their minds slowly twisted, until there was little left that resembled dragon or troll - indeed, most that viewed the Tokosh assumed that they were demons.

To this day, the Tokosh spread through the world, intent on two things: power, which is a goal unto itself, and suffering, which runs the gamut from 'hilarious' to 'sublimely aesthetically pleasing'.

Kilbit: Legends and the texts of the Judeo-Christian religion have long made mention of a great demon known as Leviathan. The fearsome creature was said to be dead, however, struck down by God himself. The sudden appearance of an enormous creature resembling the descriptions of the Leviathan in recent years has stirred up panic among the people of the Mediterranean. Many believe that the monster is Leviathan returned, possibly heralding the release of more demons from Hell.

According to Dr. Lithcoff, pictured here in a rendition of his first encounter with the creature during his scientific expedition into the region just months ago, the animal is not Leviathan. Dr. Lithcoff instead suggests that the monster is a Kilbit, a massive creature that existed at the time of Leviathan. The good doctor did however admit that the presence of a Kilbit after all of this time is quite unnerving to him. According to legend a Kilbit was the only mortal creature Leviathan feared, having the power to severely wound or even possibly kill it. This news, if true could mean that the Kilbit is a potentially unstoppable force that could very well make the Mediterranean sea unsalable.

Sister-Captain Eldryth: Fellow to Gaedryss as a leader of the Twilight Guard, Eldryth is a fearsome woman. Where her peer remains stunningly human, Eldryth has embraced the gifts of Vasnok. Adept with her manflayer, Eldryth lacks Gaedryss' pure skill, but makes up for it with terrible weapons grafted into her body. She is considered an oddity among the Guard for her cold, aloof nature, though her devotion to Vasnok is unquestionable.

Forgeguard: Herephaeson, blacksmith to the Fairy King, suffers an unfortunate defect - bound to his forge, he cannot take a woman. When left to his own devices, the Hammer Which Bore The Sky forges wondrous, feminine shapes in tribute to War - though his love is unrequited. These constructs dangle from great chains, coming to sinister life to drive interlopers from his realm.

Yeah, I wanna see THIS one fluffed.

Kindly take the monstergirls away, anon. The first of these threads was in part a rejection of the glut of monstergirl threads around at the time.
Anything else? I can't fluff all of these, because some are just variations on the theme of GIGANTAWSUMLOOKINMONSTAR. Don't get me wrong, they're pretty badass, but few of them really call out to me. Some of the smaller ones I can see use for, but it's a generic use. There are one or two awesome ones there that I feel suit the Hounds of Hell perfectly - but such beasts are going to be fluffed eventually when I get to that part of the setting.

I can't. I actually can't. I am wracking my brain, and I'm either too tired or spent, or this thing has a crazy Will save.

What about people who hunt ridiculously large animals?

Not my area, I'm afraid. Setting doesn't currently involve professional giant monster hunters because they're not massively common. I did make a point to include special rules to fight them, and tips for GMs to make them, and there are some canonical examples.
Although if monsters to fluff dry up for this thread, feel free to dump some hunters. I may even see something special.

Yeah well of course it does. The thing is pure magic. Dancing lights. The only people it can even interact with are those few who were born inherently magical. However due to the relationship between human nature and the unyielding will of magic-given-reason these interactions don't tend to run cleanly. Rather than following the simple steps that would persuade the human to work with it, the fée will follow the path of least resistance and take the human's limbs as a means to directly interact with the corporeal world.

Hm, can't currently work with what's left.
Well, /tg/, thanks for the help. If anyone has anymore, or any comments, I'll be around a little longer. That free .PDF of the finished product I promised you guys back in September should be ready by Thursday. I expect to find a way to provide fa/tg/uys with meatspace copies at discount, too.
