I'm sorry for the delay. I will attempt to run HANA now, but if there is little response, I'll simply start it again at its usual time on Thursday at 8 PM EST.

To catch up on previous threads:

Previously you explored the ancient human research installation and found the last remaining human shells of KANE and ABLE. KANE is seeking to get you to open up the AI Core room via a switch in the Core Security. ABLE informed you that something was off, and you promptly retired back to the Seeker research camp to rest and recuperate with your new charges.

You awake alone in the room provided to you by the Seekers - your white environmental suit is draped over a chair against the wall. A small terminal message relays to you that Two is awake, KANE is in seclusion and under guard - but physically stabilized. ABLE has begun to move on her own, though still weak. She is eating in the mess hall under guard.

We found them in an installation more than 2000 years old. There were corpses all the place. Gunfighting and melee weapon markings everywhere. We activated the power, and found out, that KANE KILLED ABLE. So there were two test AIs in the lab, which were inplanted into a set of kids. As a result, they developed new personality traits. Kane went aggressive, and wanted to kill Able, because he feared that it may over throw him in the quest for survival. In the process most of the facility staff was killed too.
We found the last two survivors, which were the last carriers of the AIs. And Kane wanted to crack open Ables cryopod with a wrench. We stopped them, took them in. Only Kane has spoken yet, and we are not sure, if we can trust his words. It is an AI after all.

    >>7863195
Okay, so before HANAs, there were AIs. This group of scientists gave kids implants and eventually connected them to an AI. Two groups of kids, two AIs: Kane and Able. Of course, this just left the kids as nothing but meatpuppets in the control of whatever AI they were connected to.

This is why humanity decided to not use AIs anymore.

We have no idea how humanity dealt with the exile or what they will do when they come back.

You head out of the room and along a glowing path towards the main Seeker encampment. The ground rumbles slightly every now and then from some far off disturbance. Several white suited Seekers pass you occasionally, but merely nod to you when they see you. You see no Architects while moving along.

The main Seeker research building is a mess hall combined with an extensive lab suite and several side rooms. Barracks are separated and are a short distance away from the Main building. Upon entering, a Seeker researcher that had been with you the day before greets you. "Its good to see you again. The small male is in a side room under guard, but he has been taking nutrients silently. The small female has not spoken anything to us, but is capable of taking nutrient on her own. She is in the mess hall if you'd prefer to see her."

ABLE stated earlier that she simply wanted to return to her core, now she wants to kill KANE to survive, then she waxes philosophical about her mortality. She is about as far gone as KANE, and after KANE is deactivated or trapped in his core at the very least, ABLE will be lonely if the two cores are seperate and commit AI seppuku, or continue to go further into the depths of insanity. Putting them back in their cores and physically severing the network link would be the compassionate thing to do. It's also dangerous. One day someone will inevitable find this place, stumble upon the AIs and be manipulated by them. We can make an educated guess of what will happen next.

They are dangerous, outdated AIs who have a concept of death and will do anything to prolong their existance. We should just destroy them both to avoid any future disasters. Letting them "live" is irrational and irresponsible.

Okay, what is with you people and thinking that once we're done here Able (and/or Kane) would just sit for the rest of eternity? Processing the information here will take weeks of not months. Able will have plenty of company, and they'll probably keep it open; it's not like they're going to seal it up once they're done.

Able seems fine. She probably doens't want to die, but I'm inclined to trust her. You all also are talking about the dangers of moving her to another ystem, as if she'd be able to take over anything. The seekers have AIs of there own and could keep her in check if something bad happened. Who knows, after spending some time around people Able might decide to copy a part of herself onto a disc or something and explore the galaxy, like Cam is doing.

tl;dr- Just because we leave doesn't mean this place will be sealed forever and mysteriously forgotten until someone else stumbles along.

One thing a lot of you are failing to recognize the fact is that KANE had male bodies. Testosterone...... ABLE had female bodies. NOT testosterone. Kane is violent because of his emotional intake of the children he was given. Able was not, but kept a more level head about things it seems because she didn't have that kind of emotional input. The fact of the matter is that it is neither of their faults that what happened happened. Let's find a mutual decision for both. I say we convince ABLE that we will help her, only if she shows the proper compassion that is available to a human and when the last stroke to wipe KANE out of the core, give him mercy. It will be fulfilling on her part of the vengeance scale, and he gets to continue to exist. We can get the Seekers to build another core anyways since they want to study both of them anyhow. That's my input........

Doesn't mean they're going to commit genocide. I doubt they could. And again, you still haven't said HOW Able would do it.

Say some schmuck finds this place in another 2-3 thousand years. Tell me how Able, inside her core, cut off from everything, with no way whatsoever to communicate, would manipulate the said explorer. I'd also like a reason for her actions, and how she'd manage to cause so much damage with one person.

Remember, even if she wants to use him to copy her and then infiltrate other systems elsewhere, they have AIs too, along with firewalls. And we just asked her if she wanted to go somewhere else. She declined. So I doubt she has that planned.

Don't be silly. The logic "an AI couldn't handle male hormones" is obvious bullshit, probably used as an excuse to cover up some project leader's incompetence in failing to predict the events which occurred here and propagated through people without access to the relevant classified materials. If male hormones, particularly as found in children, made people aggressive to the point of randomly murdering one another, the human race would be dead long ago.

It is a completely viable excuse even if it is an excuse. KANE was an AI. AI's don't have emotions, fears, or any of that until exposed to said emotions, fears, or any of the other emotional things humans have. That is why the AI thing was a complete and utter failure.......

they could totally handle testosterone. Especially since it wouldn't even effect them. The thinking goes on in the Core. The body is just a puppet, completely unaffected by hormones or chemicals.

I phrased that badly. The bodies would be effected by hormones normally, but it wouldn't impact the thinking or functions of either AI, since the thinking happens away from the puppets themselves, and hormones can't transfer along a wireless connection like the one used to keep the puppets connected to the AIs.

Oh, I concede that emotional input obviously destabilized the AI; I just believe that it's due to some particular feature of the particular minds used, Kane's previous AI makeup after evolving from his seed, random chance, or some other factor. I'm only asserting that the explanation they came up with is crap, not that the thing they're trying to explain isn't so.

It doesn't really matter anyway, I guess. The simplest way to effectively disprove their assertion would be to repeat the experiment enough times to be statistically significant using new seed AIs and a mix of genders, and we lack the resources and scrupulousness to conduct it even once.

"It was nice talking with you ABLE. We will meet again shortly."

Turning to Two behind you, you pull her down to eye level and whisper in her ear that you'll be seeing KANE first.

You leave ABLE at her table, and ask a Seeker outside the mess hall as to where KANE might be found. He points to a small room with two guards outside it, and continues about his business. The guards let you in with no trouble, and you enter the bare metal-walled room.

KANE is sitting in a small chair in front of a metal desk, his hands cuffed in front of him. Clothed now in a white bodysuit, he is steadily rapping the fingers of his right hand against the surface of the desk, creating a small drumbeat. As you enter, he looks up at you with unwavering eyes.

"You know, these creatures are quite interesting. You'll have to enlighten me on what's been going on lately. I can also see that the research those humans were doing before finally bore some sort of fruit. It took me a bit to realize it, but its so obvious. Can't I take a quick look around inside you too?"

My views of human emotion is that it is really just a really complex program as cliche as that sounds. Hormones are just signals and things that we are used to and are able to control. The core is where the thinking goes on, but if experiencing death from a body can send one over the edge, it was just because the fact that KANE had more testosterone that he acted on instinct quicker than ABLE. Kind of how your body reacts to external stimuli, certain reactions are completely natural and instinctual. We don't realize it because we are used to said stimuli usually. I still can't force my leg not to kick when a doctor does that under the knee hit in exams.

regardless of how KANE's self awareness came to be, and the reaction of hormones/emotions upon the psyche and id of the AI, he is still a homocidal maniac and before we kill him we must confirm that he is in fact a homicidal maniac, and try to confirm or deny whether or not ABLE is also prone to murderous rampages. I don't want to kill Kane. I want to turn him over to the Seekers, because it's always best to complete all mission objectives and they're the ones we're working for. Yes, the world would probably be better off without Kane in it, but we're not in this to be a damned moral arbitrator, we're in it to try and get enough support from the Seekers to justify their backing us in our quest to find Six.

That means ignoring what we want at the moment to bring them the best possible result, which is two fully functional AIs for study.

"Kane, I swear to you that if you have done anything to Two, or any of my other friends you can rest assured that not only will I not kill you, I will do all I can to keep you alive. And then I will start to do bad things to you. Some people don't think that a machine or AI can feel pain. You yourself know the folly of this, and I have more than two thousand years of human experience since you were last active.

I could clone you a hundred bodies and force you into them, and then torture them to death one by one. And when I'd finished, I would do it again. And again. And again, until the only thing that could possibly exist for you is pain, and on that pain would be etched the words of just how much I hate you for doing this. You say that anything is preferable to death? Let's test that.

And if you do manage to survive that, if you don't break, if you still find that to be a better fate then simply dieing, even after years and years of dieing and being tortured, over and over again? I'll kill you, for real.

So I give you this now as fair warning. If you have done anything to Two, stop it now and remove yourself from her. I won't have anyone messing with my friends minds, not again!"

You, Two, KANE, ABLE, and six guards all start moving through the complex towards the Core Security room. A few researchers file in after you, but head off to different areas of the installation. After some time, you end up in the Core Security room, with the same old corpses and everything.

"Now my dear, we need to pull those levers in the center console to unlock the AI core, would you be so kind as to do that for me? My hands seem to be in a bind." KANE says smugly.

"Oh, before we do this, can I have a word with KANE here? Face to face." ABLE says quietly.

ABLE walks up to KANE, as he smiles rather smugly with fresh blood still dripping from his nose. He grins at her, and asks, "Hello, ABLE. Come to see me so soon?"

She brushes a hand through her hair, and you see a slight glint that quickly disappears as she brings a now-closed fist to her side. "You tell me KANE, I'll be seeing you again soon."

Her arm suddenly leaps towards KANE's face, as he jerks back in surprise. Her fist uncurls to reveal a small, thin fork that plunges into KANE's right eye, and she rams it home with her palm. KANE's body stiffens, and then crumples to the floor without a sound.

"Oops. A terrible accident." She remarks, looking down at his corpse. "You should have known never to cross a woman."

You cannot "sharpen" your body edges in the Virtuality. You can infect KANE by covering as much surface area as possible, and worming your way in. The reason he could jam an arm through ABLE was because... since he really doesn't have a set form like you do - he is merely taking on the image of a man. He can allow his arm to turn into something purely able to infect, and can attack other things without a set form - like ABLE. Since you're a HANA, and human, you have a rather solid form in the Virtuality - he would have to almost beat you to death first before he could try to infect you like he's doing to ABLE.
