    ALOHA ANONYMOUS!

You are Lieutenant David Lister - Ace mobile suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon and leader of the ace assault corps: The Nachtmaren Unit.

In the run up to an assault on Jaburo, you were sent to Hawaii to train yourself in the use of aquatic mobile suits, including several new prototypes.
Your luck however, was true to form, and you landed just in time for the Battle of Midway, the largest naval battle of the one year war.

    That was three days ago.

    IN OUR LAST INSTALLMENT.

Having just reunited with Hovis Goddard and your new Artillery MA (PICTURED), the air raid sirens just went off, signalling that the enemy are mounting a large scale air raid, just as Captain Boone feared they would last episode.

You and the rest of your unit are currently at the testing grounds. Returning to the hangar is a 10 minute drive by road.

Whilst it IS getting close to lunchtime, you should probably postpone luncheon until after the enemy air forces are dealt with.

    >Hop on Rhino. Have Hovis drive us to the hangar. It's faster than the jeep, right?

Yes. Although the ride isn't 100% smoth and is rather bereft of handholds. It might be risky.

It WILL shorten the journey time to 5 minutes though.

    So: YES/NO?

The only reason I didn't call you "Gespents Unit" was because SRW already did that. It's still a matter of historical record that this is a badassed awesome name.

And I DO sleep. I think.
I distinctly recall periods when I'm in bed a while back.

    Like July last year.

    >>7754647

You ask if Hovis is on meds.

"Not since yesterday. Those things tend to cycle out of my system pretty quick."

    "...doesn't that... hurt?"

"Only when I step heavily on it. It's fine whilst I'm piloting."

You all hop aboard the Rhino whilst it zips off towards the MS hangars, traling dust behind it.

As you approach the hanger's, you see the Gaw you came in on take off and launch Dopps to meet the enemy. A squad of dodai riding Zaku's escorting it.

You reach you hanger a minute later. Ookawara hops off the Rhino and picks up a chart.

"Looks like everything is still here, I've got 5 dodai's left too, which is lucky."

This is actually a pretty good use of the Recon Zaku's abilities that I hadn't thought of, and will work quite well.

    David: Zaku F2: 90mm + Magella Cannon, 6 reloads for 90mm, 2 Magella reloads

    No.

Although given how simple the AI is, I often wonder how hard it would be to knock something up with flash. All you'd need to do would be to rip the images from the latest PS2 version. Hell, it looks like they just took a Gunpla and then made stop-motion animations for all of the units anyway.

Uh anyway. You all mount up on Dodais and head out.

The Gaw is already in the middle of a large furball, smoke and flames billowing from holes in it's sides. The damage from last night must not have been repaired fully.

You also spot two wings of bombers making a run on the base, being escorted by a wing of Interceptors.

You have Jolyne and Calvin go for the bombers with their 180mm cannons whilst you attack the escorts. You and Zolomon take out a pair of the fighters apiece whilst Jolyne and Calvins fire kills two bombers, one exploding outright the other losing a wing and spiraling in the ground with a large explosion.

Ruubens loops around and fires a burst of shells and the underslung grenade launcher at the last bomber, taking it out as well.

Transport ships do fine, it's Gaw's specifically that you keep losing.

You direct Calvin to act as a spotter for Hovis and start clearing out those fighters whilst the rest of you move to assist.
On the ground, the Rhino's turrets tilt upwards and begin filling the air with flak and missiles. Enemy fighters begin to tumble out of the sky, and the remainder scatter outwards.
You move in and meet up with the Gaw.

"Thanks for the assist! We've lost AA turets 2 through 4 and we've got heavy damage on the port wing surfaces! I'd take her in to land, but I don't think the enemy is going to let us! I estimate we can keep in the air for another ten minutes at most!"

There are roughly 20 planes circling around your general position. A mixture of FF-6 Tincod fighters, Fly Manta's and a small number of Saberfish Heavy Fighters. Splitting up would allow you to attack more of them at once, but could over expose yourself.

    YOUR ORDERS?

    >Break by pairs to engage but try to keep close enough to the Gaw to take down anyone making a run on her.

You have your group split into pairs and assault the enemy fighters. A quick and vicious dogfight ensues.
You and Jolyne take on a pair of Saberfish, Jolyne uses her 180mil to force the enemy to escape in your direction whereby you take them out. You avoid a pair of Tincods as they attempt to attack you from above and spray their direction with bullet's getting their attention enough for them not to notice Ruubens and Zolomon swoop by and take them out.

Calvin meanwhile is staying close to the flak envelope of the Gaw and directing the fire of the Rhino to excellent effect.

    In a minute.

With the numbers thinned out, the four of you swoop around the remainder taking two more out with combined fire. You then split up into two man teams again.
You and Zolomon make quick work of the remaining Saberfish, whilst The Rhino flaks away most of the remainder (is "flaks" a verb?). Aside from one that takes a hit to the engine, and then guns ahead in a suicide run against Zolomon.

Zolomon sees the attack just in time and pulls up. The plane impacts against his Dodai. Zolomon leaps free, and his heat rod lashes out and wraps around your leg. Your Dodai strains with the extra weight, but holds.

    Just.

I remember like 2-3 threads ago when we got news of a test pilot, several people all said that if he lived, we should yoink him. The fact that he survived using a 603rd prototype tells us he is either amazingly awesome, like almost zolomon awesome, or so lucky he might as well be a main character anyways.

It's like the inquisition dragooning a guardsman into his service after he does something awesome/is lucky as a motherfucker.

After being assured by Commodore Haylon that Boone probably has the situation well in hand, and besides you've got to let other people get the glory every once in a while, he sends you off to do what you came here to do in the first place.

Marine Mobile Suit training to be precise.

You return to the Hangar. You see Hovis moving about on his Crutches.

"I thought you didn't need those any more?"

"It's easier on my leg if I don't put too much weight on it for the first week or so. It's nice to know that lack of depth perception doesn't do any harm to Ookawara's work though."

That and IGLOO did it as a line battle.
A GOD DAMNED LINE BATTLE!?! The feddies should have just turned as one head on in a battle like that since all of their ships have more firepower in their forward arc than they do broadside. At the very least the Zeeks should have done the same so their ships would provide a smaller profile for the feddies to hit.

    >And let's go chat with Jolyne. We haven't done that very much.

You see Jolyne looking out to sea. She notices you coming up.

"So. Does this sort of thing happen EVERY time you visit somewhere new?" She asks.

"You mean land just in time for a massive firefight? Pretty much. Oh wait, apart from Honduras, that was pretty quiet. Speaking about middle america, did I ever tell you about the time me and Zolomon overthrew an entire country by ourselves?"

    "You ARE shitting me."

"Only slightly, there were actually 8 of us. Anyhow, there we were, no shit, having just punched through Guatemala I think when old Captain Fontaine asks us to his room..."

You spend the rest of the journey and the trip to a fairly large tourist bar and grill telling Jolyne about how you know the way to San Jose.

    >This reminds me of how shitty IGLOOs version of the Battle of Loum was.

Perfect for our first night out.

Tomorrow, though, we'll try to find out where the locals go. Those places tend to feel less artificial, and be more fun.

Granted, in a place like Honolulu they might actually be the same thing, but you never know right?

Longer-term, we'll keep working on our combined arms paper while we're running the Jaburo Attack suits through their paces, asking our fellow squaddies and other people on base for their input.

At the bar the six of you make your orders, a mix of cocktails, beers and one orange juice for Hovis (quick metabolism or no, it's best not to tempt fate.) as well as a wide range of barbequed meat of varying sizes.

After hearing your story, Jolyne remarks to you, halfway through her sangria:
"We have GOT to find some of the guys who went to see the president and get the rest of this story."

"Hell no. Even if I knew where any of them were, or if their even still alive, everything I just told you is still classified. Hell, I could probably catch hell just for saying this to YOU."

Zolomon notices what you're talking about.

"Oh fuck, San Jose? I remember that town. We got shot at going in, and you had to defuse our truck whilst getting out. Nevermind the time I have to bail out of a Kamikazeing Midea in a Zaku 1. I dive straight into this Type-61 Boxer Shield first. It crumples like a box of donuts..."

You talk to Ookawara about various things whilst you have what is essentially dinner.

Around 11 you all decide that it's time to head home on the last ferry out.
Most of you pick yourselves off the beach. Apart from an unconcious Jolyne who you and Zolomon have to carry back.
You notice that she has a star shaped birthmark on her left shoulder, and at one point she wakes up to be rather ill. There's going to be some nasty hangovers in the morning.
As the three of you stagger onto the ferry with the rest she starts talking semi-coherently.

"You know I used to wear tank-tops? I used to spend ALL the time in hack 'cos people kept saying inna-in-innapoo- rude stuff to me and I kept going POW WAM right in the kisser. So one day I stopped wearing tank-tops, and lo and behold, people stopped trying to grope me! Halleujah!"

"Thats nice Jolyne. Try to be sick OVER the railings and not on my shoes okay?"
    You comment non-commitally.

"You're nice Lieutenant you know that?"

    "Uh."

"Oh god I'm going to sick!"

Well that broke the tension nicely.

The next morning comes with headaches, illness, sore limbs and good news.
Flanagan Boone reports a clear victory in battle. The federation survivors splintered to the four corners of the ocean, whilst being persued by various submarine and MS wolfpacks.

On this day, Zeon domination of the sea routes was sealed.

You take the good news whilst drinking aspirin and wearing thick sunglasses. Which has become something of a fashion statement. Aside from Hovis and Ookawara all of you are smarting from last nights celebrations.
Ah well, it's all good practice for when the Mad Angler returns tommorow.

Also you resolve to talk to Hovis about whose funny idea it was to put you, zolomon and jolyne in the same bed.
You KNOW nothing happened as you all had your trousers on, boots included.

You spend the rest of the day quietely writing your essays and drinking water. The next day you get practicing with your new Mobile suits, and in the evening you moderate your drinking a little better in the Victory Celebrations and wake up the next morning realtively fresh.

The rest of the week goes by in a mix of aquatic exercise and shakedown tests for the new mobiles suits and your team.

And then it's time to return to California...

    OMAKE

Someone from Tech team is butchering Suspicious Minds from Elvis. There is much booing from everyone until eventually he get's the hint.

Then Zolomon comes up and key in DEEP RED.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw9-c8ZmI78

He doesn't so much sing it as howl it. The crowd doesn't boo, but they do laugh a lot. Eventually he finishes and returns to his seat after scoring relatively well.

Then Ruubens shoots him a semi-condescending look and keys in the Die Apokalyptischen Reiter version of Ghostriders In The Sky.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thjCnWf-kEI

She get's it pretty much perfect. Which is kind of worrying considering how low the pitch is.

"Whatever, let me give it a go." you resolve as you take the stand, and notice that they have Vulgaris Magistralis.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaY-SYPDFdE

Not only do you get a perfect score, you deliver it so loudly that the windows crack, three light bulbs pop, and someone has to be taken to hospital.

"Holy mother of fuck! Where the hell did you learn to do that?" Jolyne asks you agape.

Actually, you haven't really changed canon all that much this arc.
You might have encouraged them to build more Zocks, and a couple more Subs went down on your side than canon, but that's about it. Also the Jaburo Assault MS were never built in Canon, now, not only are they being built, but there's a chance they'll actually be used in an assault on Jaburo.

It's late in the thread so it's time for crazy zeonic weaponry ideas.

Since the GAW seemed to take such a beating while strafing that Feddie surface fleet it might have an easier time if it were to orbit it's targets. I'm thinking either Mega Particle Beam weapons or a 300mm copied from the Mass production Hilda.

    >So our newtype power is yelling really loudly?

No. It isn't. Maybe next week you'll get a visit from someone from the Institute and I can have him explain to you how newtypes work.

Did someone just say Spirit Gunship?

The Gaw took a beating because it was still damaged from the air attack flying in, the engine damage, the force recon night raid and then the air defence mission, and for what is supposed to be little more than an armoured troop transport, that's a pretty good showing.

So... is there anyone we can/should/have talk(ed) to about the fake minovski bomb launcher to draw out a Federation attack?

Garma maybe. You know. Seeing as we're his personal strike team.

Does that mean that the assault on Jaburo actually has a chance of succeeding now?

I assume some bright spark is building it in some semi-friendly middle american country as we speak. Whilst putting out fake rumours about it's existence and capabilities.

Also, does it mean that a certain mad scientist is no longer being allowed to waste resources on his independent crazy project in Southeast Asia?

And that his extremely talented test pilot sister is actually going to be reserved for projects that aren't extremely stupid?

I was thinking Incognito would be the one to see about it since it would require a lot of counter intelligence work.

Oh, I think I know who you're talking about. The antagonist from 08th MS Team, right? I'm all for him not killing dozens of hardworking Zeonic scientists and then shooting his sister.

Yep, that asshole. Ginias being put on a tight leash and then being quietly sent out to die has no real downside for Zeon, and a lot of upsides.

Speaking of Incognito, what's that old rascal doing right now anyways? I always love hearing about Incognito.
