    ALOHA ANONYMOUS!

You are David Lister Ace Mobile Suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon. Leader of the independant corps: The Nachtmaren Unit.

Together with you crew of merry misfits, newtypes and professional kickers of posterior, you have been killing a swathe through the feddies since February.

You are currently stationed on Hawaii, ostentiably to get some Marine Mobile Suit training in the run up to an assault on Federation HQ Jaburo.

    Last time on ZEONQUEST

After a highly successful night raid, the Federation mounted a counter-attack by bombarding the base with unguided missile spam from 25 missile cruiser. Our party, fearing this was a diversion for some kind of invisible carrier spent the attack searching fruitlessly around the islands, dropping enough sonar buoys that a man can now walk from California to Russia.

In the ensuing cavalcade of missile fire, Hawaii lost 50% of it's MS forces, it's communications centre, 5 submarines from enemy subs and Hovis Goddard, our resident MA pilot lost his leg.

It is currently night, Engineers are working overtime to repair and salvage Mobile Suits, in some cases right on the beaches.

At 9:00pm Acting Commodore Haylon calls a briefing.

"Well gentlemen, it's good to see so many of you up and about after today. I've been talking to the engineering team and here's our current force estimate. The estimate that about 75% of our forces can be repaired, most of which over the night. Our last minute counterattack of the enemy submarine fleet and the destruction of the Submersible Carrier pushed them back to the holding line they were using this morning. If we had the forces I'd suggest an attack to finish them off, but we just don't have it. So for tonight, we going to undertake a close patrol of the islands, looking out for enemy probe attacks.
One good thing to come out of this, with the destruction of their last carrier, we were able to call out for resupplies and the first of those planes arrived two hours ago."

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO TONIGHT?

ASIDE FROM PATROLLING, YOU STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM OOKAWARA OR CHECKED UP ON HOVIS YET.

You all decide to try and find Hovis. You check in with the Triage tent to see if you can find him, you discover that he's been taken to Puna Community Medical Center to clear up space on the beach.
They have a number if you want to call him instead, or you can requisition a jeep (there are still plenty of those going around) and go visit him.
You can see Ookawara first if you want as well.

Don't apologize to Hovis for his getting hurt. Apologize for our fuckup that made it more likely.

And, for that matter, do the same for the rest of the wounded.

Then, if there's a Z'Gok ready, we saddle up and attack the Feddies along with Zol and Ruubens. Because I can guarantee that they aren't going to expect us to attack after the general mess that was yesterday.

Oh yes, and talk to Ookawara about including some sort of hoverskirt on the Hildolfr after the rebuild, to allow it to move over water and safely fire its guns.

And as long as we're talking with Hovis, we may as well ask him for any advice he may have on MS/MA movement programming. He was part of the original test team, after all.

Tracking down Ookawara is harder that it would first appear. Plenty of techs have seen him, but you never seem to catch up with him.
Eventually you reach the ruined remains of the Hildolfr. Half of it's drive train annihilated, lying on it's side, still smoking. Exactly like it was the day you met it.

"Damn. I guess that's the end of that then huh?" Zolomon comments.

"NOT! SO!" comes a made cry directly behind him. Zolomon jumps and ends up in your arms.

"Okay, a lot of it need to be replaced with stock parts, but the central chassis is still mostly intact, as is the main gun. So here's what I'm proposing: We shove in a basic Zaku torso and work around it with armoured modules, we add 4 hovercraft skirts units to support the thing and then a pair of 120mm Machine-Gun arms for close defense, two shoulder mounted rocket pods for medium fire support and a set of rear mounted double barrelled 90mm turrets to guard the flanks and the rear. Oh, and 300mm dead center in the middle. Oh, and don't worry about the patch, it comes off in a week."

"Gentlemen!" the base liaison calls. The Unit stands at attention. In these times, a Zeon liaison is the closest thing to a commanding officer the Nachtmaren has.

"At ease. I don't think I have to tell you about Odessa, I think you've already figured that out." A palpable wave of guilt and shame pass through everyone in the room, even the clean-pressed adjutant. "Be that as it may, Lord Dozle has something of a surprise for you."

The men looked at the messenger warily. News was far from good these days, and some of the men considered the best places to give him a beating if it came down to it.

"As you may or may not know, we have discovered the Federation's Headquarters. Your Unit is to be one of the select few assaulting it. Of course, we've begun to see that using Zaku's alone won't cut it. As such, high command has deemed it fit to issue these to you." With that, he waved in a courier with a small, square box. "This is a mockup of the suit that is currently being shipped to this station. I will also give you a combat technical schematic on this USB stick." Reaching into his pocket, he removed the slim device and layed it next to the box.

"Sieg Zeon!" The men hesitated a moment, but responded with a thunderous reply
    "Sieg Zeon!"

You try to find an orderly, but one doesn't seem to be apparent. You notice you are currently hooked up to an IV, if you want to leave the bed to search for an orderly you will have to remove it.
You notice that your area of the tent is shared by 15 beds, 5 of them used (including your own.) none of them appear to be concious, all of them are sporting bloody bandages in some degree.

You remove the IV and attempt to stand up and find an orderly outside. You notice that you can't feel your left foot.
You pull off your sheets and notice that your left leg has been amputated just below the knee. Luckily you can still feel that your knee joint has rotation, so prosthetics wont be a probOWOWOW OWFUCK OW.

    That was smart.

The IV drip could probably be used as an impromptu crutch, although it won't be much good on the sand which surrounds the tent. You will have to find a proper crutch for that.

You shuffle over to him. He appears to be in great pain, and he is trashing slightly. There is a medical chart available, it tells you that this is Ensign Ryan Kirke, who has just had surgery to remove shrapnel from a lung.
There is no Morphine nearby. There is however an adjacent room in the tent, presumably used as a makeshift surgery. You can't hear anyone inside, but painkillers are sure to be found inside.

Whilst you can see some of the beach and base from the tent. You'd have to leave the tent to find a superior officer. Unfortunately, your makeshift crutch wont cut it over sand. So you'll have to find a crutch from somewhere.

There is: A mobile medical carrier containing scalpels and medication.

There is also a waste paper bin in the corner.

You move to put the tags back with the corpse, as you get a closer look at the grisly remains, you notice an electric bonesaw, heavily used adjacent to the poor sods head. You also notice something matte black and metal underneath his nearest arm. You lift it up to find a 9mm service pistol underneath.
The barrel is still slightly warm to the touch.

You take the gun and travel back to check the other man's tags and charts.
His charts reveal him to be part of the Communications and Computer operating team. His operation is recorded as taking place about an hour ago.

You start poking him in/with the crutch (DELETE WHERE APPLICABLE) he seems to be stirring when a voice from behind you asks what you're doing.

He appears to be an MP with a 9mm SMG. He is with a nurse, she is wearing a fresh smock, but her hat has some blood on it, implying that she has recently changed.

    "Where's Dr Thistle?" He asks.

"That's what I want to know." You tell him.

You then go on to explain the situation to him. The nurse goes and checks the operating room. It appears that she was called away from this tent to help deal with a major surgery in another larger triage. Dr Thistle was left to handle cases by himself. This is not unusual, Dr Thistle was the highest ranked doctor on the base.

You both decide to wake the patient up.

The man wakes himself and when asked for his identity introduces himself as Ryan Kirke.
You produce the Dog Tags and inquire about the one's he's wearing.
He produces a set, and then appears confused when he looks at them.

    "That's odd. Who's Omar Saluud?"
"Over here." sparks up a largish man of indian decent, who was apparently now awake.
His Dog Tags appear to belong to Aaron Huxley and his tags appear to belong to a late Jason Styner, who's body has already been taken away.

"I don't like any of this one bit, and where the HELL is Dr Thistle? That's it, all of you are coming to the local hospital and are confined to quarters until we figure out what's going on." The MP decides as he calls for more officers to help organise things.

    >Obviously, something is afoot. I think we should try and get a better positive ID on the guy in the OR. It looks like someone shot somebody and then tried to cover it up by fucking the body over with a bone saw to cover things up.

About half an hour later you have all have a nice ward all to yourselves, complete with a couple of guards.

You overhear the MP talking to his superior on the phone.

    >Find out who Thistle is.

You ask the MP (who introduces himself as Carl Lenworth.) about Dr Thistle.

That actually makes sense, given that the Feddies don't actually seem to have brought any troop transports to this party. I mean, yes, they've damaged Zeon's own naval assets badly, but by the end of this they're still going to have thrown away practically their entire remaining fleet.

So if this is just a raid to extract/plant spies, there must be some extremely juicy intel involved.

It's two guards actually, plus the MP you're talking to.

    >Also, lets see if we can chat with anyone regarding what they were doing at the battle?

    You ask about the battle.

"Well, that barrage hit us pretty good. We lost a fair few mobile suits in the exchange. Yours included from the sounds of things. We also lost a forward bunker and the communications center. Casualties are still coming in."

    >"Maybe this Thistle is a spy or double agent for the Feds, or wants to defect? The Feds stage an attack on the island, Thistle gathers some Zeon intelligence, uses the attack as a cover to escape with secrets and hand them off to the enemy."

"It's hard to beleive that Feds could show that much organisation on the naval level all of a sudden. But I guess anything's possible."

The phone rings again, the MP picks it up.

"Lenworth. What? Really? How much? How often? Every month? Since June? Where to? Well find out! Also, you find that bodybag yet? Well? Where's the report!? I want it ASAP!"

    He puts the phone down.

"Okay, well, here's the skinny, we've just pulled Thistle's bank accounts. It seems he was making withdrawls of 10,000 Zeon Dollars every month to a Side 6 bank account. With our comms array out though, finding that's going to be a needle in a haystack. We'd have to go through EVERYBODIES bank statements for people on the base and try to find a corresponding set of numbers. Lord only knows how long that would take, and how much clearance we'd need."

    My thought on the mistake:

You don't need to find everybody's bank accounts.

You just need to find the records of long-distance transactions.

That's going to have been handled by either a bank or a wire service (if those still exist); I'm going to make a guess that Zeonic military comms are not going to be used as the primary method of handling mundane, non-secret tasks like this.

So just go to the local banks (and wire service) and request their records of transactions heading to and from Side 6, including the account numbers involved and the holders of those accounts.

    Well, you're close enough.

He agrees to your plan and makes the call. Around this time the report he was waiting for arrives. You ask if you can look at it whilst he's on the phone, he gives the okay.

You read the report. Dental records confirm that the body in the bag was indeed Jason Styner. It also notes that his Dog Tags WERE Dr Thistle's.

Not hard, mind, because we don't want to reinjure him if he really is hurt, and we don't want to give him a genuine pain reaction if he's faking it. But even soft contact should be visibly unpleasant for him given that IIRC he still hadn't been painkillered yet.

You hobble over to the window, and open it just in time to see him dash past. You pick up your crutch and hurl it at him.

    AFTERMATH

An investigation of the toilets reveal a bag in the u-bend, full of teeth.
The teeth are matched up to ones removed from the corpse on the table, and the dental records match that of Ryan Kirkes.
The identity of our supposed "Ryan Kirkes" is answered when a nurse recognises his Brogues as Dr Thistle's.
The final pieces of the puzzle's come in when they find a bullet hole in the roof of the triage and whilst searching through Kirke's affects they find incriminating pictures of Dr Thistle with Ladies.

    Well, they're ladies NOW.

    FLASHBACK ENDED.

Okay. To sum up what actually happened, because I've porably not been 100% clear.

Kirkes was blackmailing Thistle for having sex with ladyboys.
Kirkes end up in Thistle's triage with a punctured lung, whilst Thistle is operating alone.
Thistle attempts to take advantage of the situation and kill Kirke.
Kirke wakes up on the operating table and attempts to use his sidearm on Thistle. He misses and Thistle kills him with the bone saw. He then rearranges his face with iodine and cotton wool buds in his cheeks.
He swaps clothes with Kirke, pulls out his teeth and swaps the tags.
He then attempts to impersonate Kirke long enough to escape and defect to some village somewhere.

AND HE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU MEDDLING KIDS!

    >AVAST! - GET A FLATBED TRUCK, FLY THE JOLLY ROGER, HUNT FOR PLUNDER!

You 'appropriate' a flatbed truck and drive to the base. You meet Ookawara at the MS hangar. The Commodore's aide is present as well.

"Boss. There's a couple of pieces I need to finish off the Rhino."

    "The Rhino?" you ask.

"Uh, yes, that's what... were calling it. Anyway, here's a list of parts, you should find most of them on the beach. Though a couple of them might be in the ocean, don't bother diving if you don't have to though. I'm sure I can machine something up. Would be easier to find salvage."

    The Aide speaks up.
"Uh. Although the Commodore is aware that as an independant unit he has no ironclad authority, he would appreciate it Lieutenant Lister would form a squad to send out on patrol with the base defenders? He suggested getting into contact with him at the HQ."

NOTE: ONLY RUUBENS HAS THE BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE TO SPOT THE PARTS OOKAWARA NEEDS. SHE WILL NEED TO BE ON THE SALVAGE TEAM.

The patrol mission can be anyone. But you get the impression that Acting Commodore Haylon would like to see David at some point.

You meet up with Commodore Haylon in the CinC. It's less hectic than you recall seeing it, but there are a load of engineers trying to rebuild parts of it. Probably something to do with the Comms building taking a hit.

"Ah. Lister, good to see you back. We've got a couple of spare slot in our patrol circuit and we were hoping..." theres the sound of something powering up and behind him a couple of monitors spring to life.
"...ah, good. Our Laser communications are back online. Anyway, I'd like your unit to do an air patrol via Dodai around the Islands. They haven't made any probing attacks thus far, Intel thinks they're acting cautious now that they don't have any air support. A short two hour patrol should do the job."

IIRC, it was mentioned in an earlier thread that "El Muerto Gigante" is horrible Spanish, and that it should probably be something closer to "La Giganta Muerte".

    no wars

Zoloman(Gouf) and Lister(ZakuF2) on Dodai's, this is a patrol and mobility is the most important asset we can bring to a patrol.

Jolyne on the Zaku tank, Ruubens, Hovis, and Ookawara in the truck

    Let's get this moving people

At the same time, we don't want to give their surviving ships a chance to resupply or escape.

This isn't about making up for our fuckup earlier, not really. It's about not letting the Feddie remnants link up with the incoming Feddies and be able to launch a stronger assault against our own weakened forces tomorrow.

Anyway, My suggestion is to go with Reubens on Scavanging mission, And call it a date whenever we can.

Then get punched in the face.

It´s not like Spanish is Davids first language anyway, The fact that it is horrible just add character.

Spanish isn't Lister's forte. Killing Feddies is.

    Also, new thread, boss?

(And we should get a drawfag to get David holding his head, going crazy as the voices argue inside of him... IE, us all.)

I know. I was trying to reassure Researcher Sam that his knowledge of Spanish, or lack thereof, wasn't the issue here.

Hmm. You think we should call in to Garma and ask if there are any prototypes that need some field-testing?

A bit more firepower would definitely help us survive tomorrow.

Yes, but two extra suits might not be able to make too much of a difference; we're supposed to patrol, and if we encounter something then yes we attack but unless we're going out of our way to find the feddie forces we probably won't NEED a marine MS. We tried doing things of our own volition, and it cost us big time. I'm not saying it was our fault, but for the look of things we should probably stick to orders, or in this case, requests.

Hmm. You have a good point.

Ask the Commodore if he has some idea of where and when the fresh Feddie fleets are going to meet up with the remnants of the first two. If we can hit them while they're transferring supplies and personnel between the ships, we can do a lot of damage with less risk than usual.

I thought he and Icelina were back at California Base at this point, given that it's GHQ for Zeon's Ground Forces.

And even if he isn't, California Base is probably where any new gear would be going first.
