    You perfect the cantrips. You completely translate the packet of magical notes, with the exception of the summoning ritual. The captain lets you borrow his two books on magic, one titled Understanding Arcana (a collection of theories on how magic works, what it is, etc) and Fiery Foes: A Warriors Guide to Stopping Sorcerers (a guide on how to interrupt mages, incapacitate them, and other ways to fight them). All of this comes together quite well.
    While using a wand or the rod, you will not fail unless you roll below a 5. You can cast spells successfully with your hands as long as you roll above a 10. While using an implement, your spells are slightly more powerful. This power 'stacks' with the Rod's.

    Basically, disarm them if they are using a implement. If they are protected with armor or a spell, try to break the wrist. Go for the throat to destroy speaking capabilities, as a wounded mage can still cast spells. Go for mages first. Scream a lot, throw lots of stuff while running at them (anything, books, chairs, silverware, plates), anything to distract them. There are ingredient listings for a few quick-acting poisons that befuddle people, making them very effective against mages.

    You do not speak the language too well, but you can read and write it decently.

    Guards dress in the same uniform as in the West. Most are Westerners. John warns you that they tolerate mages, but that doesn't mean they will not arrest you. He also tells you that going around blasting off spells is a good way to get yourself assassinated by one of the Cabals - they will do it to protect secrets from being spread, and to keep the Westerners from enforcing the magic laws. Crazy, rogue mages do for the pro-magic movement what retarded stoners do for the pro-cannabis movement - fuck everything up.

You go to the manager, and write down your request for a job as a waiter. He declines, as you can't speak the language to take orders. You offer to be a dancer, but he refuses that also.

    You take a seat by a table where a bunch of drunk guys are watching other drunk guys play cards. You do not recognize the game. You surprise them by making vocal remarks in your broken Eastern, which earns guffaws from the other men. Soon enough, you are feeling comfortable amongst them. You talk to them primarily through writing, but try to communicate vocally as much as possible.
