Alright anon, for anyone who forgot this quest
The way it works is that you have to build up the settlement, manage your forces, and destroy the enemy while making sure you keep treasure flowing to your sponsor. PLEASE read the last thread
    >> Researcher Sam 01/01/10(Fri)20:49 No.7381767
Right, last thread (which was also part 7, how odd) the Industrial convoy was only 1.5 weeks away. Is Roarke still thinking we are a traitor, or has he calmed down a bit? Shooting random people aside, that is.

Oh, and it is GREAT to see this again.
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/01/10(Fri)20:49 No.7381768

Legionnaires to deal with an uprising? How trite.

Has scouting of the second level begun? If so, reports thereof?
    >> Captain Supernova !7NffU3G94s 01/01/10(Fri)20:51 No.7381777
    Lets get some more Dynamite.

I believe we were saving RP for the Male Steam Tank, right? I don't want any more mercs, as they can't be trusted, but we can't get rifles from the Industrial Convoy, right? Lets get 40-60 more workers if we can.
    >> Captain Supernova !7NffU3G94s 01/01/10(Fri)20:52 No.7381789
Roarke calmed down - I believe we were putting him on Garrison duty or something so he wouldn't splatter the worker's brains everywhere one a day. We ARE farming him for RP for that tank.

I am SO glad to have you guys you have no idea. Alright- heres the status. The next industrial convoy is in 1.5 weeks, Riker still shoots any of your personal treasure drivers so you are hoarding the personal cut in the city. Second level scouting was discussed but not implemented last time. SUPER ROYAL CONVOY in response to the French legion in 3.5 weeks. RP bonus from Roarke in 2 weeks. ORDERS?
Also, thanks you guys for reminding me, WISHLIST time for the industrial convoy.

Alright, so far the wishlist is yet more dynamite and more workers. Be careful captain, last game we approved immigration so the royal shipment will be full of whiney worky settlers, we dont want overpopulation. 1.3 weeks to convoy. you have 18 rp, and if Roarke lives for another 1.8 weeks you will get have 23...enough for a steamtank (male).

Extra ammo for the Gatlings and Maxims. On the off chance they can provide it, a scouting balloon.

How will immigration work? Will we be expected to build and provide housing? At the least, we should try to get the new arrivals within the radius of our patrols; we don't want then to come under attack from natives.

    >> Robert Sale 01/01/10(Fri)21:06 No.7381913
I believe we should get a start on scouting the second level. We have some time before the first is cleared, but this way there won't be any dead time.

I'm all for sending Riker on a mission of utmost, if suicidal, importance. We could use some solid numbers and disposition of the french and natives. Steam tank be damned if he dies, personally, but He might come back with an ace.

Pardon, I was under the impression we were Captain Roarke and the man necessary to survive for rp was the marksman, Riker. Am I mistaken?

Let's get those Gliders on regular patrols around our land as an early warning system. Get the workers started on some primitive housing just in case it's needed. Lastly, I believe you changed the dimensions of our land to about 20 acres because some people called bull on all this stuff fitting in such a small area. I realize that 2 square miles is bigger than 2 acres, but would you please confirm on which is the real size? Sorry to sound whiny, this stuff is just gets to me if it isn't addressed.

Just so you know, industrial shipments are where we get are bread and butter supplies/ dynamite and workers/mercs
Settlers act as extremely high maintenance workers that can farm better and pay taxes and can form a militia once they arrive in higher quantities. It sucks at first but is great later. Yes you need housing for them

and thank you, our size is 20 SQ ACRES

OP, I'd like to join this quest, but you have to slow yourself down. Whenever you're going to post, wait a few more minutes to check for other players adding their own insight. I've watched these threads since they started, and that seems to be your biggest gaff, though you do seem to be getting better.

But honestly, be a bit more patient, and give some extra time between your posts. And check what other people have posted before you post. Refreshing won't remove what you've typed, it will still be there, and it will allow you to see posts that have been added since you started typing.

Ready the colony for more growth, buildings and the like. Perhaps begin to look into civic buildings for the larger population.

Otherwise, continue looting. Begin scouting of second level.
    >> An0nymous 01/01/10(Fri)21:17 No.7382014

We should get housing, but within the confines of the fortifications.

Maybe we can go about organizing a sort of militia to pad some of our numbers on the defense...?

Thank you very much for the compliment.

Again, Gliders should be on regular patrols around the outskirts of the colony. Winston should probably take a group of Mercs to scout out the numbers of the French deserters and Natives. Houses made out of wood from out mill, and work on the wall and Masonry if it's not done already.

10 mercs light scouting, small enough to move around quickly but big enough to give any opportunists second thoughts.

    >> Robert Sale 01/01/10(Fri)21:45 No.7382273
Winston's force is fine. I prefer proper soldiers for my backbone, but mercs have their uses.

I would like to see Riker set off into the bush on his own though, to investigate French movements. Maybe he'll kill off all the big predators for illegal hunting on the Queen's god-given land.
    >> Researcher Sam 01/01/10(Fri)21:49 No.7382308
The French are Bad People. The Death Tribe was dealt a severe blow, but the survivors have hooked up with some French deserters and are now working together. The main French force has the strength of the French Foreign Legion with them (Like Royal Grenadiers for the French), and they seem to have a fair abundance of grenades. There has also been a small amount of contact with the Americans, but so far we are leaning towards not forming an alliance with them. There are also Snake Tribesmen in the Lost City.

Basically, everyone but us wants us dead.
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/01/10(Fri)21:51 No.7382341
Riker may be Quatrich level of badass, but he is only human. If you want that steamtank I suggest you help him to survive.
You force the rifles to participate in the daily drills with the grens, and though morale is slightly lower combat ability has been increased.

1 Day before convoy arrival. A blood red fighterglider covered in seemingly blue-tan stripes swoops by. When he swoops in he drops a letter into Godfried's hands. Godfried faints after seeing the outside of the letter. You notice that the dozens blue and tan stripes were pictures of downed french fighters, and that was FLASH FUCKING HAWKNS THE ACE. ORDERS? read the letter? Convoy tomorrow
    >> Anonymous 01/01/10(Fri)21:53 No.7382364

I must protest, my good sir- is it so honorable that these savages fall upon us in the dark of the night, attacking our defenseless workers, and do not listen to so much as a sliver of our enlightened diplomacy? These are savages, my good sirs, simply savages- and who knows what lies those frogs have been telling them, allying them against us. We have been given no quarter- we must return none ourselves. By Divine Right and seal of the Royal Family, we are here to bring back bounties unknown to our good England! Shall we falter because we pity unknowable, godless creatures who would attack us in our sleep? I say, "Give no quarter to those who raise their hand to the Empire!" We are the HAND of the Empire, and I would see no hand raised against us! Who's with me?!

. . . Good sir Tesla? Oh God's wounds! Open it! Open it for God and country, OPEN IT!
    >> Robert Sale 01/01/10(Fri)22:08 No.7382580
The British soldier is worth any three of the enemy. If cold steel and a stiff upper lip can't break an enemy, you should call in the cannons.

Otherwise, it's mostly logistical. We haven't the facilities to support it. Should one part in a million prove faulty, we'd be stuck waiting for a convoy or two before a replacement could be found. Unless we were to jury rig something and risk killing ourselves. It could certainly make for a strong point in an emplacement, but I wouldn't trust it to conquer the bloody continent on its own. Leave mobile warfare to flesh and horses, maybe steam horses, that's the way we made this empire, by jove.

Can i get a vote on wanting the tank?
    >> Anonymous 01/01/10(Fri)22:12 No.7382652

I say yes on the tank, but if we deploy it, we deploy it with great justice and planning.

Also, we get in Teslas good graces by protecting his assistant.

Is it also possible to send him a gift of some rather fine specimens of African Pigeons? Live by the by.

Get tank. Get Riker back to the main base. Assign a force of 5 Grenadiers to protect Tesla's assistant.

I figure we would mostly use it for defense, and as a preventative. Keep it well maintained in the inner ring, and call it out in the event of an attack.

Send her a man, only different to you and me by his nation and lack of hygiene, with his flesh burned away and his lungs flooded with putrid ichor. Send her a man, guilty of only of his birth, with his eyes melted in their sockets and blood streaming from his orifices. Better still, send her the women and children killed by a fickle wind that brought the curse upon a village.

We are he to conquer, not exterminate.

Good gentleman, I've heard such talk before, but the officers who tutored me in Officers Academy spoke highly of future technology through the progress of industrialization! A tank in particular is truly top-notch technology! We could have sir Roark's scribe or some of the workers look at it if it obtains damage- which seems doubtful, if I may be so bold!

The tank is a weapon and a symbol of the Empire's might, sir! It breaks the morale of the enemy who do not know what it is, and sends them running once they see what it can do! The Male tank can deliver emplacement-pulverizing rounds into the center of crowds, and if I properly recall my studies, the Mark IV had both a main gun that puts past cannons to shame, and four maxim guns! It is an armored behemoth that can bolster the resolve of its allies and lead them to victory through a hail of gunfire that would see a wave of men falter!

The convoy arrives. 2 Crates of dynamite. 20 Workers. 10 Mercs. Tesla's assistant is a small man. All of his body and head hair has been burned off by an unknown source. He has no eyes. Attached to his pack is an odd and arcane sparking device with tubes attached to lenses which are in front of his eye sockets. His ears are covered in strange gears replacing flesh. He twitches alot. Riker is with you. He pulls a pistol and aims it at the assistant/abomination. CRISIS MOMENT. ORDERS?

    >> Second Lieutenant M. M. Love 01/01/10(Fri)22:20 No.7382775

This is a crass statement sir in an honest debate- I humbly protest your outlook on such a thing. The wounds of the gases are indeed crippling, and there are in fact risks of gas being blown out, but careful deployment and proper planning will see this used best as possible! And I care not for the birth of a man, but whether or not he is currently attempting to kill one of the Queen's valued subjects! The Mother of our Empire should not be given to see the horrors of war, and I was taught in my household that she views the death of a Englishman as a worse affront than the death of a foreigner or savage trying to -kill!- one of her servants! For dignity's sake, I wouldn't think of showing her the effects of such a weapon! It is simply ungentlemanly!

If showing the queen the effects of war in her name is ungentlemanly, those who would commit themselves to such things must be no less than demonic.

. . . Exterminate? I was informed we were to bring the light of our God and of civilization to those ready to hear, and to justly deny those who would see the humble workers of the Empire slaved, slayed, and eaten! Are- are we not here to set up an outpost and a colony, and to aid those who are in need of assistance?
In the academy- well, the laundry room at ten when the tutors had retired and I was up with the lads, we would have card games- and we would save our aces for last. I would keep such a thing in reserve, and bring it out ONCE we were under attack. No use revealing it beforehand, eh?
Clockwork soldiers can go where tanks cannot, and act in ways that a tank cannot. A steam-tank is at a much greater level than mortars, for certain, but the long guns and 240mm shells of the long guns are truly weapons to fear- falling from the sky, whistling the doom of the enemy, the crump of the blast- they'd be akin to the fist of God himself pulverizing the enemy!
Capital idea! Loyal subjects to the crown, and their zealous nature and well-known bravery befits any subjects of the Empire! Trouble is, there's rather a lot to do in the Empire, and Ghurkas are NOT ten a pence. If we could even find a pair, or a small squad. . . Heavens knows what we could do with that!

I wish for a world where men such as Sire Hugh Gough were not risking their lives when they could be spared.

As for the "demonic" act- well, war -is- hell sir. Isn't it a demonic act to destroy another man's life in the first place? I was taught that if the death of one man, no matter how gruesome, would stop a hundred from fighting on, then we as Englishmen must steel ourselves to do whatever is necessary to preserve as much life as possible. Isn't it sensible that a hundred tribesmen die, their corpses are discovered, and none fight on? We have their best interests at heart!

You fool yourself then. Maybe the Academy men are farther past their time then I recall. Men like Hugh Gough were not forced to such feats, they sough them. Why I recall a battle back in the earlies, Hugh wore his fighting coat of purest white and let cry when the savages charged: "At last, we can be at them with bayonets!" He carried that day as he did every other, never losing for his credit.

Removing men from war, removes its only honor. Killing a man for being an enemy is a necessity, torturing him with gas is cowardly, just the same. Let them fear us for our stoutness in battle and strength in the fight, not in our machinations of nature.

We may wish to seek medical attention, but speak to the man- who is he, and what is his purpose?

Sir Sale, I will not speak against those who were kind enough to impart their wisdom to me so I may better serve the Crown in my own way. We have a difference of opinion my good sir, and I believe I am not so skilled a speaker as to sway you. I apologize for any insult I may have paired to you in the heat of the argument- though I hope I have done no such thing- and I withdraw myself from this debate. I only wish to preserve life as necessary- and it seems sound to me that should a single man die horribly to save others, then I would wish for his demise. I wish that there was no reason for man to be against another- but while there is conflict, I will fight to lessen casualties, and if I may not lessen the casualties of all, I will lessen first our own casualties, for the sake of the kingdom, of course, but for their sakes and the sakes of all they know as well.

Winston is out on a scouting mission, we can't take him with us. And what with our recent injury, I don't like the idea of going to the Lost City in person. We should stay behind to keep watch over Riker and try to get o his good side.
    >> Robert Sale 01/01/10(Fri)23:36 No.7383993
    >This guy has going into the second level on his time sheet! ORDERS?

Ah, a daring fellow beneath his pipes! Well, Winston is still down there with his men if I'm correct. >>7383801 This escort should be sufficient. If they run into Winston they can spare some riflemen for his losses, if he had any. I'd like to go with them for the sake of adventure, but I fear we're needed here. Our wound doesn't help either.
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/01/10(Fri)23:39 No.7384060
Okay, I need some decisions. Do we go with the team? We can probably handle it, after all we have more ribs. remember you CANT take trucks inside the city, you gotta park them outside. I need confirmed specifics for the escort force, and finally, (optional) another roleplay conversation with Riker
    >> Researcher Sam 01/01/10(Fri)23:42 No.7384109
Hmmm. I proposed sending the trucks in case they need a safe place to fall back to; gatling guns can help make the area safe. I'd again caution against going ourselves. Perhaps sending Godfreid?
    >> Second Lieutenant M. S. Love 01/01/10(Fri)23:43 No.7384125

I agree we should stay behind and see to our wound first off- perhaps a gatling truck should go with the man to aid him, though? As well as a native guide or two? It wouldn't do for this man to be injured in our absence. . . The gall of that scoundrel to shoot us! And him! Isn't he supposed to be an officer of the King?!
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/01/10(Fri)23:44 No.7384153
Being meta here, my description options are limited to the rolls that I make on my desk if we don't go on the expedition. :\
I think everyone would be much obliged if you could get Riker back to his senses in conversation. That however is HARD. ORDERS?
    >> Second Lieutenant M. S. Love 01/01/10(Fri)23:46 No.7384183

. . . Could we reform the man? Is it possible, my good sir?
    >> Anonymous 01/01/10(Fri)23:47 No.7384192
We need a Heart to heart with Riker.

I know this is hard, but out in the bush, good officers are hard to find, much less with the experience of Riker.

We let him stew for a day or two, then we come in with a full plate of food some good stiff British drink, and a heart to heart talk.
    >> Anonymous 01/01/10(Fri)23:47 No.7384196
Op said that you can try, but I suggest using all ur writefaggotry powers or it might be bad for our relationship with Riker.
    >> Researcher Sam 01/01/10(Fri)23:48 No.7384211
To be honest, we've had a lot of the fighting tactics part of the game for the last couple of threads; I'm eager to get back to the colony management part of it. I'd be fine with you using rolls to determine what happens.
    >> Robert Sale 01/01/10(Fri)23:48 No.7384220
    >We can probably handle it, after all we have more ribs.

That's a chipper attitude if I ever saw one.

Sam's proposed list and addendum seems more than sufficient, even if the gatlings just bolster a fall back position. I have my misgivings about going, but I very much want to see what our guest is up to. Godfreid, bless his soul, I wouldn't send. Leave him to his papers.

Reform is a powerful word and is often lost on madmen. I'd suggest the iron hand, but in a glove of silk.

Does everyone agree/disagree with sitting this battle out?
You guys are right, but someone needs to use all the VICTORIAN WRITEFAGGORTY in the world to reform Riker. ORDERS?
    >> Second Lieutenant M. S. Love 01/01/10(Fri)23:54 No.7384296

Battle? There's to be a battle? We can't sit out a battle! We're Englishmen for god's sakes, and we must defend our guests and our own! If there's to be a battle, we must do all within our power to preserve this man's life!

Sir Sale, I would be honored if you could answer affirmatively in my request that you attempt some wonderful writefaggotry to reform this man into a good, honest soldier worthy of taking the King's Shilling.

Agree to sit out, there will be other battles, best to keep in top form for them.

    Awaiting with great interest.

Here it goes, hope I didn't screw up too badly:

"Riker. We are both men of the Crown. We both give our lives, each and every day, to ensure it’s everlasting glory. I believe you are a good man. But you are constantly at odds with others. Why? Because you see them as traitors. But think. Surely there could never be so many traitors in Her Imperial Majesties’ domain? Is it not possible that at times, you have in the past over reacted? Not in regards to treason, which must be rooted out wherever it is found, but in your judgment of others."

"The last thing I wish to see is some unholy abomination walking around our camp, but we need only use him until he has completed his task. Once done, he will be on his way, and we may gain access to some of Tesla’s technology. Not just for us, but for the entire British Empire! Then, with their own weapons can we eventually take the fight to them and liberate the so-called country of America. It is not that we have not set the man’s execution date; we’ve simply postponed it until a time most beneficial to Her Majesty."

We are sending 6 Grenadiers, 15 rifles, 10 mercs, 2 native guides and 2 Gatling trucks.
    >> Robert Sale 01/02/10(Sat)00:19 No.7384637
    If I interpreted it correctly:

    15 Rifles
    6 Grenadiers
    10 Mercs

And two gatling trucks at the entrance of the city for fall back and a couple of natives more guidance. Though i suspect our guest won't be guided, but leading. They can at least warn the soldiers to dangerous places.
