So, someone was setting this up yesterday, then dissapeared and I went to sleep. Now the thread has 404'ed. Is this still happening?

Well not right now it isn't.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if the GM gets back and makes another thread.

    So...uh, plane's discussion?

Why the hell do my picture uploads keep failing?

Anyway, re-posting some of the options given by the Planes Quest GM:

    Company Profiles:

    Advantage Flight Solutions
    HQ: UAE
    Budget: Large
    Access: Global
    ROE: Restrictive
Advantage is a big name player, and is traded on the stock markets. Top flight benefits make it appealing, but expect HR to talk your ear off about 'unacceptable casualties'

    Showtime Flight Services
    HQ: Australia
    Budget: Moderate
    Access: European Defense
    ROE: Moderate
Showtime is the brainchild of Harold "Hog" Blackburn, a former RAAF pilot. You won't be asked to do anything morally reprehensible, and the parties are great, but the paycheque isn't great.

    Executive Outcomes
    HQ: Capetown, SA
    Budget: Limited
    Access: Former Soviet Bloc
    ROE: What Hospital?
Executive Outcomes does the jobs no one else will take. Calling their aircraft flightworthy is a stretch, but you're only required to get the job done, no strings attached.

    Air America
    HQ: Virginia, USA
    Access: American Defense
    Budget: Excessive, suspiciously so
    ROE: Variable
This sleek and all American operation works 24/7 to make the world a safer place for Americans. You get paid handsomely, but the moneypot almost seems too full.

    Rusforce
Budget: A case of Vodka and a two for one Frozen yogurt coupon.
    ROE: Liberal
    Access: Soviet Bloc

    Achmed's Discount Air Service
HQ: A cave, well furnished with rugs and betamax!
    ROE: DIE INFIDELS!
Access: We offer the ENTIRE range of fighter combat aircraft from Cessna and Piper! For you, I make special price!
Budget: Two Camels and my third wife, but no more, you are bleeding me dry, how do I feed my children! What? Fine, Three Camels, my third wife and this watch, but that is my last offer! What? No! How dare you accuse me of cheating you, FOLEX is quality brand name watch!

Remembering the reception P&M has had from it's conception, though, I think you just might be shit outta' luck. Wow.

The first two contracts seem reasonable enough.

But the third one is SERIOUSLY tempting for me because I find it hilarious that we'd be hired by Amnesty International, also the chance that we might get in a tussle with the Myanmar Air Force (they have J-7s and Mig-29s).

Based on funds, you have access to most munitions up to the end of the Vietnam era available to you. For the time being you can probably only mount western munitions until you get some cash under your belt to get universal hardpoints. Try to stick with a load out that your aircraft would have actually had (Magics for the Mirages, etc)

I'm not too picky, just don't put eleventy billion missiles on your aircraft, keep it realistic, in the spirit of planes and mercs.

As to drop tanks, you won't require them this time.

Allright listen up, this isn't an easy one, but I like your pluck and I think you lot are gonna give the Burmese a black fuckin eye followed by a swift kick to the gentlemen's berries.
So here's the situation, Amnesty has hired a group of ex-paras to run a snatch and grab on a Burmese prison camp located roughly near Hpasmng. Bloody hard to fly in that area, almost as hard as it is to say it. Looking at some mountains, valleys, rivers, and a whole lot of tree coverage.
Now, the Burmese aren't expecting this, and the paras have unit pre-positioned, but the moment those Frelons come a knockin, all hell is going to come loose. That's where you come in. You will be in communication with the paras. You keep the local militia at bay, and protect the Frelons until they are back in Thai airspace. No fancy heroics on this one, in out, beers in the mess hall. Got it? Questions?

By the way, since Gato gave us permission, are we gonna be using him as an NPC on this mission?

In which case here's the potential armament for his plane:

    Hardpoints:
4× under-wing pylon stations & 1× internal rotating bomb bay with a capacity of 12,000 lb (5,400 kg) and provisions to carry combinations of:
Rockets: 4× Matra rocket pods with 18× SNEB 68 mm rockets each
    Missiles: 2× AIM-9 Sidewinders for self-defence, 2× AS-30Ls or 2× AS-37 Martel missiles or 2× Sea Eagle missile
Bombs: Various unguided bombs, Laser-guided bombs, as well as the Red Beard or WE.177 tactical nuclear bombs[9]
Other: AN/ALQ-101 ECM protection pod,AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike Laser designator pod, Buddy refuelling pack or Drop tanks for extended range/loitering time

I think we ought to equip him with the two Sidewinders and then give him all rockets or a mix of rockets and dumb bombs.

ROE are standard fare, do not fire unless fired upon, or if directed to fire by friendly ground units. An exception is that threats to the Frelons may be preemptively engaged should they constitute a clear and present danger to the operation.
    >>13015719
We have not identified any anti-air but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Information on the region is poor at best. Fighter support will likely be slow in coming, if the cross border raid occurs with enough rapidity you should be in and out before their fighter units go wheels up. So, on to general discussion.

What planes are you guys hoping to get eventually?

I was hoping to eventually get a Desert Falcon (>>13012601) for Prophet (a big part of why I wanted to go for Advantage Flight Solutions originally).

However, if we'll be sticking with European aircraft I suppose I'll be aiming for Eurofighter, the Rafale, or the Gripen.

We probably need to do a bit of research on the EW capabilities of the Rafale vis-a-vis other possible aircraft.

For that matter, we need to do some research on EW aircraft from Europe, period. The only ones I know of for that job are American.

Come to think of it, I don't even know any Eastern Block aircraft that are EW speced.

I need to do more research...

    >>13016654
If you're thinking of learning more air-to-air I can suggest a relatively cheap and available plane to train on.

    o Bombs: various
o Other: AN/ALQ-101 ECM protection pod (found only on RAF's Jaguar GR.3/3A),[15] Joint Reconnaissance Pod, external drop tanks for extended range/loitering time

Europe doesn't prioritize tactical-size EW aircraft. Heck, the U.S.A. is actually pretty unique in that they deploy EW air assets at both the strategic (AWACS) and tactical level (individual EW craft).

Most other nations don't have the military budgets for it, and if they do, the money goes into strategic level aircraft first.

Also, a mission from AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL? So that's where my donation money is going!

True, but I was thinking about this:

    Showtime Flight Services
    HQ: Australia
    Budget: Moderate
    Access: European Defense
    ROE: Moderate
Showtime is the brainchild of Harold "Hog" Blackburn, a former RAAF pilot. You won't be asked to do anything morally reprehensible, and the parties are great, but the paycheque isn't great.

    >Access: European Defense

I'm not sure if that's just for the beginning, or if it'll be strictly European for us.

    >>13016956

    >> Anonymous 12/03/10(Fri)15:57 No.13017108
Oh, also, it depends on what you want from an "EW" aircraft. Most tactical level EW aircraft, like the Tornado ECR, are geared for SEAD, which is essentially playing playing chicken with SAM sites...

Early SEAD aircraft literally just were bait - they'd run active while everyone else in the flight packed radar-tracking missiles, and would try to bait the SAM site into launching so their buddies could take it out. Then they'd pray they didn't get hit.

More modern SEAD aircraft can cheat a little with jamming and other forms of electronic interdiction of course. Dedicated electronic attack platforms are still rare though and only available to air forces that have big budgets because the mission is so specialized. The EA-18G Growler is pretty much the only currently serving fighter that has a mission role completely oriented for electronic attack (jamming everything).
