    Ch.2 Pt.1: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/12385200/

You use your radio, getting a report on the situation downstairs. The corrupt sisters had made it to the second level and were still coming. The Farseer was down there with them, helping to hold ground. She must have foreseen they would need assistance.

You make your way over to the nearest corrupt sister, laying one hand gently on her head. She let out an enraged growl, gnashing her teeth as she struggled against her bonds.

The very nature of her corruption filled your mind, layed out and displayed for you to see. The taint of chaos had been carefully woven, not only into her mind and flesh, but into her very spirit. It had seeped into every aspect of who she was, like pitch slathered over a fine cloth. Her will was only maintained by her faith, and even then...

It would take you days... months... years... to fully unravel the horror that was consuming her, even with the assistance of other psykers. You couldn't imagine how hard it would be to resist being consumed by such deeply forged heresy.

You pull your hand back as you feel the taint reaching out toward you.

Filigree made her way over to you, the lash retracting back into her arm. "Unusual binding, isn't it? It's slow, but powerful."

It was almost nothing like the binding between you and Filigree.
    >> Anonymous 11/18/10(Thu)10:09 No.12842687
"... It is," I say, leaning back and surveying the scene around me, "almost disconcertingly so. Why waste so much power and energy into so deeply entrenching the soul of a deamon so deeply into these women?
And if these bonds are as strong as I think they are, why are they fighting so badly if that's the case?"
    >> Anonymous 11/18/10(Thu)10:10 No.12842694
"What I want to know is, how the hell did they do this so quickly? The rites required to fuel such a powerful transformation can't be easy."
    >> Anonymous 11/18/10(Thu)10:12 No.12842698
wow, we must have rolled pretty shity
    >> Anonymous 11/18/10(Thu)10:21 No.12842748
"Emperor dman it!" Frack, I had expected there to be some mental foot hold, SOMETHING we could use to exploit to get inside the deamons defenses
"What do you think Filigree- would it be worth it, interrogating these poor souls?"

Filigree shook her head. "I would assume the strength of the corruption has to do with the sister's high tolerance for it, however, to use such power in such a short amount of time... I would not be surprised if it was the work of Slaanesh itself." She paused, looking around. "Something HAS changed though... With the sisters..."

Many of the sororitas had gavitated away from the fallen ones, sitting along the far wall in clusters or simply pacing. Evangela and Tessa remained nearby, able to do so from their previous experience with Slaanesh, but that didn't stop them from looking uncomfortable. Elizabeth and Sonja were standing by the twins. The Canonesses were arguing in hushed voices, but neither one seemed to have much strength. Verity and Anna were in the corner, praying.

Demoralized. The victory was an empty one and the stench of blood, sweat, and adrenaline were still heavy in the air. They must...

You let your train of thought go, realization flooding you. Verity and Anna were praying... Verity and Anna were the ONLY ones praying... And during the battle, you didn't hear any litanies being shouted. No songs of praise sung. Nothing that you normally hear when the sisters purge heretics.

It was unlikely that they were being possessed, or losing their faith, but over time, a single seed of doubt can choke even the most beautiful of gardens if left to its own devices.

    >> Anonymous 11/18/10(Thu)11:20 No.12843070
After checking the remaining three fallen sisters to see if I can’t gleam something, anything, about their condition and possible weaknesses, I gather Filigree.
"Come on, this headache isn't going anywhere soon." I head over to the remains of Tybalt, and check to see if any of his systems are still salvageble. I'm not really sure what to say at thi point- "Good boy," seems cliche and trite. Instead I just run my hands over his chasis, before getting up abruptly to turn to Evangela and Tessa
“How are you two holding up?”
I jerk a thumb in the direction of Anna and Verity. “What prayers are those? I don’t recognize them.”
    >> His Divine Power 11/18/10(Thu)12:32 No.12843604
    >>12843070

The other three sisters merely sit there, laughing at nothing or mumbling to themselves.

Filigree follows you as you make your way over to Tybalt. The cyber mastiff's memory core was slightly damaged, but the data is probably salvageable. The black box containing all of his primary systems was undamaged, however.

You gently gather the undamaged parts, carrying them to the far side of the room, away from the chasis.

You swiftly approach the Living Saint and Celestian and ask your question.

Evangela looks up at the two in the corner, a little numb. "Oh... That is Palma ut Patronus Sanctus. Glory to the Patron Saint. It's more of a nursery rhyme than an actual prayer. It is taught to sororitas novices to help them follow and understand the basis of their vows. It's not very elegant, however. It is almost never spoken outside of the Sororitas for this reason. Common people expect the Daughters of the Emperor to be eloquent and fierce in prayer. Not to recite a child's poem."

Tessa smiled faintly at the Saint. "Yeah... But you know that we all still recite it Evangela. For its simplicity, it stirs our souls with its reminder of innocent times as a novice. It has no place in battle nor is it meant to bring forth our fury. Yet... I find myself reciting it in my mind, even when my lips speak the litanies and prayers of battle."

The sisters look at each other for a moment before Tessa takes a deep breath, reciting the first line, Evangela joining her after a word or two...

"Sanctus contego nos, quod contego nostrum fides...
To be Sisters in arms, shoulder to shoulder. With fire and shell, we praise Him.

Permissum nos sto procerus in vultus of malum...
To heal and tend to the pious and noble. With gentleness, we cure the blight.

    Servo nostrum mens ex corruptio...
To study and examine what others cannot. With wills of steel, we learn.

Tribuo nos os video vidi visum obscurum...
To travel the stars, and weed out corruption. With grace, we keep the order.

Nostrum pectus pectoris es loricatus per nostrum fides...
To teach by example or by slate and chalk. With care and discipline, we will show young souls the light.

    Palma ut Patronus Sanctus!

Where were the battle songs and praises to the emperor? The rites of the fallen? The chants of purification?

You attempt to psykicly boost the volume of the prayer, but you find your power ineffective, though you could feel it working through you.

Regardless of the lack of volume, the sisters around them slowly joined in, the quiet murmur spreading from one sister to another the entire room calming slowly.

The prayer was repeated several times, the sisters standing in silence when they finished, their hands clutched in front of them or their faces raised upward.

A quiet voice came from behind you. "A single spark can burn down even the mightiest of trees." It was Rodwen. The hem of her robe was badly ripped and soaked in blood. "You are wise, inquisitor. We need the faith and resolve of the Sisters to triumph here. If we survive this, I would be honored to have you accompany me to the Black Library."

".... That's, um, quite an honor, Ma'am, I mean, Farseer Rowdan." Emperor damn xenos and their unnatural agility, allowing them to sneak up on his unwitting servants!
"If we survive, I think I'd like that a lot."
I look her up and down
"So, I guess the rest of the possesed sisters have been cleared out then? And is that your blood? Despite what you say about the primitiveness of humanity, Verity here is good at patching up wounds."

"Farseer. Dramatic and cryptic as ever, I see." I nod in the direction of an empty corner and shoo Filigree off to help Varity with the wounded. As bad as being seen conversing pleasantly with a Xeno is, I don't think the Sisters response would be any better if they overheard our conversation.
"I thank you for your invitation- it's an honor few have been given, and many sought after.
However, I think we both now that the odds of me coming out of this are extremely slim. Which is why I must ask a further boon from you-"
I reach my tobacco case and remove a heavily gilted cigar holder
"Here, take this." I unscrew the top part of the holder, revealing the minature electronics underneath, "It's a elect-key holding the clearance codes to my data-vaults and storage djinns. If I bite it in the coming battle, I'll need to make sure my successor has access to all of my information. When you make good your escape- don't look at me like that, you're an eldar, you always have an escape plan- make sure it ends up in the hands of my acolytes, some way or another."

Rodwen hesitates before taking the case, removing the last cigar from it as she did and handing it to you. "Thank you Inquisitor. I'll be sure to return this if you make it... I honestly hope you do. It is rare that I meet a mon-keigh I do not mind being around."

Evangela had moved to the chaos sisters and knelt in front of them, the harlots unable to meet her eyes. Tessa watched from afar.

Verity and Anna had moved back over to the twins. It looked like the injured one was doing better. She was sitting up, her twin giving her some water. Whatever Verity had done seemed to be working.

Filigree kept her distance, not wanting to get near Anna.

Elizabeth and Sonja were fussing over Tybalt, trying to figure out if they could fix him, or at least create something temporary, despite the massive damage.

I take the cigar offered and set it firmly between my teeth before taking out a lighter from my person. After a few clicks, I realize that the fluids have all drained out, and settle with lighting it through a small electric spark from my fingertips. Stings like a bitch- but worth it.
I watch Sonja and Elizabeth somewhat warily as they fool around with Tybalts body. Evangela peaks my interest. I'm hoping that she isn't going to execute the possessed sisters.

Rodwen nods slowly, looking thoughtful. "The universe does seem to be going mad, does it not?" She let out a breath, her stare distant. "I do not know what to make of these... abominations. I have participated in this war long enough to know the inner strength of these battle sisters from those we have fought and captured. Every interrogation attempt failed and we had to keep them separate or they would kill each other rather than remain captured. After the first several attempts, we stopped taking them alive altogether, as there was no point. Such a strong warrior spirit earns the respect of the Biel-Tan. I cannot imagine what force it had to take to tear their minds asunder such as this."

The chaos sister said something inaudible, the color draining out of Evangela's face, her forefinger twitching a bit, though she had no gun. She swallowed hard, looking around, her eyes meeting yours. She was angry.

Don't give me that crap about how you're waiting for the sweet embrace of death, to better feel the eternal pleasures of the warp.
You're alive now, and living is the ultimate addiction- can't you feel it? You tell yourselves that you can stop anytime you want, but one last breath is never enough, is it? The feel of a cool breeze on your skin, the subtle scent of sweat, the feel of cloth against your skin? Nothing in the immaterium can compare to living- it's why you bastiches are so eager to get your claws into this domain.
I'm not going to threaten you with death if you don't leave these bodies- oh no, that's more the Sisters style. I realize that even if living flesh is a great addiction, you're willing to settle with a runners up prize.
Instead, I'm going to make sure that you live.
I'll make sure that you live, in nothingness.
Devoid of all sense, of all bereft of even the sweet tang of pain.
Pitch blackness constantly, no sound, no light, no color, no hope, not even a faint connection to the warp, just an eternity of nothingness.
It wouldn't be easy- sensory deprivation tanks, nerve destruction, immaterium hexes- but I am dead serious when I say that I can do it, and that I will do it, if only to spite you.

The four harlots look at you, their eyes huge. One Struggles fruitlessly, falling over onto her side, two more struggle for words. Only the last one manages to maintain some form of composure.

"You wouldn't do that to us..." You doubted it was using anything remotely similar to the sister's actual voice. "All it would take is one slip of the tongue, and the saint here would know your secret. We can sense our kin." It bared its filed teeth. "But you are correct in your words. We cannot be removed so easily. A compromise then since seduction seems to have no affect on you..." It glances in Filigree's direction. "I release my grip on this one's soul. I'd rather the embrace of the warp than to live in silence."

You reach your mind out and look upon the harlot with witchkin sight. Immediately the world was drenched in energy. The daemon retracted its claws from her soul.

"I had fun." It let out a short laugh. "I'll get a new body when you fail and this world is taken by the warp."

The daemon only smirks in response, letting its host's head drop forward. The possessed sister drew in a sharp breath, and jerked back, screaming fearfully in high gothic. She struggled against her bonds, thrashing far harder than the daemon did.

Many of the sisters rushed over to see what was amiss. Of those that came, several reached for their weapons. They didn't get a chance to draw, her wild thrashing freeing her wrists.

She lunged at the nearest sister who held up her close combat weapon defensively, the possessed girl grabbing the bolt pistol off of her belt, putting it to her temple and firing.

You expected her head to explode. You didn't expect the gun to jam. She slowly drew the pistol away from her head, falling to her knees, looking as if she may be sick.

Evangela approached her slowly, her movements deliberate as she took the bolt pistol from her and unjammed it. "The inquisitor is correct. You are among your comrades in arms. There is nothing to fear."

She offered the bolt pistol to her, handle first, managing to hold steady. "If you wish to end your life now, there is no shame in it. You have done your duty many times over. If you wish. I will grant you the emperor's peace if you do not feel you have the strength. But if you could off up any information that may help..."

The sister shook her head, sitting up and closing her eyes. Evangela wasted no time, turning the gun around and firing a single round between her eyes, whispering a litany.

She turned to the other two, her expression hardening. The Harlots looked tense, glancing at each other and back at the sisters.

It is the only release from their torment."

Evangela stepped forward, checking the ammunition in the bolt pistol. She took aim and fired, the first spasming and falling limp.

As Evangela approached the second, the one nearest you looked up, her mouth opening and closing several times. "Inquisitor..." You had to strain to hear her. "Beware the sting... and the barbs... that is what was our undoing... Forgive me, but that is all I can remember."

If I had decided to do so, your soul would currently be tortured in the warp for all eternity. This world would probably have already fallen to chaos.
Why should every soldier in the guard not simply end himself with his lasgun instead of a horrible death at the hands of Chaos, Orks, Necrons, Tau, Eldar or whatever monstrosity the universe has chosen to test our resolve with that day?
The Imperium has endured for 10000 years. Besieged by aliens and monsters, attacked from within by heretics and rebels. Why bother fighting when all we need is to kill ourselves and be over with it? Why does the divine Godemperor still sit on his golden throne, protecting mankind even after being betrayed by his own sons?"
I think we're out of cigars but I'm pretty sure, being the smart inquisitor we are that we have hidden some lho-sticks away for such situations. Light one.

But if the Emperor is willing to sacrifice himself, by his very nature infinitely better than each of us could ever hope to be, for the continued existance of man... then that is good enough for me. We should ask the sister how long she thinks she's been possessed, i.e. the date when she was taken. That way we could work out who the possessed sisters are if we can match that against any known battles, or events where sisters went missing.
I don't think it is a lash of torment.

"The twins... If it was a lash of torment-"

Galatea nodded in agreement, Florencia turning her head away in disgust.

    You address Caramel and Rodwen.

The tainted sister is the first to respond, the farseer's brow furrowed in thought. "I remember... something. It may have been a nightmare rather than an actual event. The daemon..." She cleared her throat. "I recall a squad that was taken. They were testing something. They infected a single sister, brutally, I might add, and left her with the other sisters. She did not show symptoms at first and, as expected, the others attempted to comfort her. Through the contact it caused a mass infection of the entire squad, but the potential for infection through contact didn't seem to last long. I can not remember much else."

Rodwen crossed their arms. "I have heard of something like this before, though as I recall it annihilated the infecteds' sense of individuality. The group was rather diverse, however, and caused some severe problems..."

You make a sharp remark about saving Caramel.

Sister Caramel bows deeply, her voice cracking as she spoke. "Forgive any trouble I caused you Inquisitor. What you have done for me can never be repaid with any simple deed that I may do. My desire to rest spawns from my own greed, I must admit, and I thank you for so willingly granting my former squad the that small mercy... We do not deserve such, and if you wish I will serve their penance as well as my own. I am not worthy of even Repentia. If my life and any deeds I complete this day is not enough I will slave for the rest of my natural days if that is what it takes to serve my penance."

I did not save you so because I think you need to spend the rest of your life in penance for your immortal soul- I saved you BECAUSE you have a soul. It's my job- as the left hand of the Emperor I am entrusted to do what actions I deem necessary to preserve the integrity of the Imperium and the souls thereof. Sometimes that means cleansing entire planets with burning flame, damning a hundred thousand to save an entire system. Sometimes that means working with xenos, as our good friend Farseer Rowden can attest, or other, less savory peoples. (sideways glance at Filigree). What it means for me, though, is that I utilize all the tools I have at my disposal- not using them could be what costs uncounted millions their lives, their sanity, or their souls.
I helped you regain your soul and your freedom because I think you can be useful- no more, no less. What you do with it now is rather out of my hands.

(Stop whining. The name "Delessa" is a variant of the name "Delisa" which means "pleasure." Yes, you named your character pleasure and you have a pet daemonette. Sister Caramel's name is just fine. :P)

It doesn't really get better once you consider her last name is Kravos.

that other daemonette a few threads ago that Filigree talked to was named after the art of chineese paper cutting.

Every character's name means something. Like Evangela's name means "Spread the good news" or "Spread the word"

    every sister's name means something.

Just thought it might have something to do with turning the word "crave" into a last name. He who craves or something like that.

    Etymology:
early 13c., cravant, perhaps from O.Fr. crevante "defeated," pp. of cravanter "to strike doen, to fall down," from L. crepare "to crack, creak." Sense affected by crave and moved from "defeated" to "cowardly" (c.1400) perhaps via intermediary sense of "confess oneself defeated."

O.E. crafian "ask, implore, demand by right," from N.Gmc. *krabojan (cf. O.N. krefja "to demand," Dan. kræve, Swed. kräva); perhaps related to craft in its base sense of "power." Current sense "to long for" is c.1400, probably through intermediate meaning "to ask very earnestly" (c.1300). Related: Craved; craving.

The sister swallowed hard, nodding. "I understand inquisitor... Forgive me for questioning you... You're right, I can do more good if I live at this moment."

You jump as another crash comes from the nearby hallway, the sound of bolter fire coming closer. Filigree stops fidgeting and leaned forward, head tilted to the side as she listened. "This is getting interesting... Heh..."

Florencia and many of the other sisters glanced at Filigree, not sure what to make of it. The sisters aware of Filigree's true nature ignored her or looked away in disgust.

    Caramel glanced her direction. "Curiosity?"

    "Yep."

    "Lovely..."

The door burst open again and several sisters backed into the room, followed by what remained of the eldar forces, and then more sisters.

    "They've taken the second floor!"

"They'll be here at any minute!"

    "Emperor protect us all!"
