Okay, so I was joking around because I couldn't think of a character concept and I asked my DM if I could play an Awakened Bee.

    He said yes.

Asking more questions, I found that a swarm of bees or a dire bee would be equally valid choices. Right now I have the idea of a swam of bees talking with sign language.

But... fuck, /tg/, I'm still blocking. Help me build this character.

well, you can make two or three hives a season naturally. More, I bet, if you were intelligent and actively focused on babymaking like some kind of insane bee-bard.

And, if those three hives make three hives a summer... lemme calculate this...

after ten years, there will be 59,049 beehives, given they live that long.

there will probably be dieoff, so yeah. it's probably less than that, but it's pretty fast.

Does your swarm need to stay together in order to maintain mental cohesion, or can you send one or two out individually as spies, as long as the central hive survives intact?
This could make for a very effective rogue.

Will your DM allow your swarm to become more intelligent or more powerful, the greater the number in your swarm?

And for combat you could Zerg Rush an opponent, covering them in bees, going in ears, nose, mouth, and attacking the eyes.

    additional bee powers include:

A harvesting range of five miles (sometimes more in times of starvation)

They can form a beard on whatever they're sitting on to cool themselves

If something dies and it's too big to move, they just entomb it in wax and it becomes a mummy

You can probably inject your genes into any natural beehives around with males of your hive, thus awakening their offspring and increasing your propigation exponentially, if the DM allows it

A healthy beehive can produce over 40 pounds of honey in one harvest- it ranges quite a bit.

Harvests usually come in at the beginning of a crop cycle in the local area- bees get a heck of a lot of nectar from crops.

During the flowering portions of crop cycles, the intelligent bee would gain the ability to place honey wherever it wished. The same goes for wax, but wax is all summer long. it is a fatty byproduct of the digestion of pollen in bees.

bees don't get pollen in the winter.

Aside from the ~20-30some pounds I leave for them after the harvest.

The 40 LB is the excess honey. if they used ALL THAT HONEY to make bees instead of for just whatever, the rate of hive production would go up.

Each queen is sentient and has a different personality. There's an aggressive gung-ho queen, a diplomatic serene queen, a practical queen, an idealist one, etc. Each queen assumes direct control during appropriate situations (they're elected by the bee collective according to what needs to be done).

1 of them finds a hive of bees (european, the native has learned to counter this trick) and then just wait outside and kill them as they one by one gets out of the hive. I mean by god, they can kill an entire hive in 20 minutes. Alone. And with a little math that tells us one hornet kills like 2 bees / second.

Sons of Apis, of Hymenoptera. My brothers. I see in your compound eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come, when the courage of bees fail, when we forsake our hive and break all bonds of Fellowship, but it is not this day! An hour of swatters and children throwing rocks when the age of bees comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you, stand, bees of the West!

Sell all the spare honey and wax and stuff you make!
    >> Anonymous 10/19/10(Tue)07:09 No.12499046
so, here some of my ideas...
How about the swarm controlling a body (like the devil wasps that controls zombies), that they made out of their own wax? this way they can wear gear, wax is pretty soft and flexible, and the healing can be represented as fixing the waxbody over time. Also, this would be a good storage for the honey, and the bees could hide in case of winter. And in case something hits the hive body too hard... SWARM OUT AND BRING BEE HELL IN HIS FACE

The hive body would have skin of wax, bones of whatever they take as a base and blood made of honey. And of course, FLESH MADE OF BEES!

That would fix the gear thing. also it would present idiots going around and trying to fireball the poor swarm. (you would still have to look out for that though, wax is not exactly known for fire resistance)

For class, well, psionics sounds good (warrior or whatever). Bard sounds funny as hell, and cleric would be Beesus

    http://www.ravenmimura.com/images/full/VerminLord.jpg

One of these but with bees.
Or maybe the soul or whatever from an ancient and powerful wizard that came back to life and took control of the swarm of bees... In time he starts to really like and worry about the bees, so he starts thinking like bees and doing stuff bees like or need to survive. He then makes a plan to conquer the world for the bees and to turn every living species into bee hybrids.
The Beesus idea is awesome too.

Also, there is a swarmshifter template thats only +1 LA. Its in Libris mortis, and normally only applies to undead, but you don't need to to tweak it at all to have it apply to something living. Probably the easiest route to take, rules wise. Just slap it on a human, eat the +1 LA, and be able to adopt the shape of a swarm of bees at will (and just refluff your humanoid shape as being made of bees).

You know, I'm reminded of a great story from when a few buddies of mine tried acid. They didn't think to have someone staying normal (THIS IS A MISTAKE). Not immediately feeling anything they went to the backyard to throw the football around. This happens for a couple minutes. Then all of a sudden Jim looks down at the guy he's about to pass the ball to and sees a terrifying hallucination. So of course he blurts out: "DUDE, there's a bunch of bees around your balls!"

Derrin looks down in horror, and his acid-filled mind fills in all the details of an angry swarm. He takes swift action. His fist flies upward, and then...

WHAM! Fist to the balls. "AAAUGH! THEY'RE STINGING ME!!" Derrin shouts in pain. Jim helps by adding, "Get 'em man! Get 'em!"

Cue multiple strikes to the balls as Derrin smashes his fist into his own man parts again and again, screaming about how the bees were the cause for all his pain. He finally passes out and is carted inside, only to wake up hours later with no clue what had happened. They didn't tell him what caused the worst pain he'd ever felt down there for almost an hour, the jerks.

Only a very few species of bees actually die when they sting you. Most actually can sting and survive. Only bees with barbed lancets leave the sting, with most of their beehind with it.

Hmm... perhaps make the entire swarm an int, elligent entity, with some kind of hive mind. Or, you could do it the lazy way. Give your character levels of druid and have him/her be the "Alpha" bee and the rest are animal companions that count as a "swarm" of insects (just like rules for a swarm of rats).

Here's an interesting angle. Rather than playing the bees as the "characters", you instead have some sort of wax construct controlled by the bees? Like, imagine you see this beautiful woman: pale skin, white hair, and she's singing the most beautiful song, as if with thousands of tiny voices at once. You are awed and run to her to introduce yourself. You say your name, and she opens her mouth to respond, but instead of words, a horrendous black wave of bees pours out and covers you, each one stabbing you with stingers and psionykks.

Obviously, they just drink your blood.
And then make blood-honey, with bee eggs in it.
Anyone who eats the honey gets vampire bee eggs in their stomach. And then they become the new hive, as hundreds of vampire bee children devour them from the inside-out.
The body is eventually animated via necromancebee, and becomes an ambulatory hive.

OP, this calls for Thrallherd like no character concept before it. You're a psychic swarm of mind stealing bees. Your thrall is a warforged refluffed as a wax golem. You believers are all wearing wax helmets that allow them to be piloted by a member of your swarm.

You're rather put off by all this individuallity nonsense that humanoids have. Can't they see how much more effecian it is to work together for the good of the group? You'll just have to show them how it's done. And what better way than by amassing a tremendous pile of gold! People will be convinced by gold, right? Of course they will! It's the same color as honey! Now just to get some volunteers...
