You use the monitor, Verity going to examine the men for injuries.

3/4 of the cameras displayed either darkness or static, but you found one finally that displayed something odd. Drifting slowly down the hall was a long ribbon like thing... almost like a glowing translucent streamer. There were hundreds of them shifting through colors in a dazzling pryzm. They seemed gaseous in nature, seeping into every little crack in the walls and floor they encountered.

Honestly, I have no idea. It could be anything from the power units in the first room to a fingerprint of the Emperor on the wall granting us protection from chaos.
    >> His Divine Will 10/03/10(Sun)23:34 No.12319686
one last hint anon. Its pretty far back... very far back (but not before you entered the engine rooms) and really really not obvious. and not necessarily an environmental aspect...
    >> Anonymous 10/03/10(Sun)23:38 No.12319736
If it's not the sparking cables like the one guy said I have no fucking clue.

Ask the crew about alternate ways of getting to the bridge or the forward sections.

    >guarder object
    This may be prophetic.

Seems like this anon won't get it. No surprise considering it's 5:30 am around here.
Anyway, let's ask Anna to take her helmet off. Just to be sure.
    >> Anonymous 10/03/10(Sun)23:40 No.12319759

    Is Anna the Daemons?

She's been wearing a helmet since we met her...

I keep going over the engine room but I see nothing we didnt mention already... the glint in the hole (obviously that mirror again, trying to trap us), the console we missed, oh and the boxes we threw down the hole without opening them

But you said it wasnt environmental

And our sense of warp dread DID flare up after Verity and anna walked into the room...
    >> Anonymous 10/03/10(Sun)23:40 No.12319760
Weeeelll, noone seemed to mention the smashed up crates... perhaps that is related. The warpworm thingies were being transported, a crate or 15 got smashed, allowing them to escape and corrupt the engineers.
    >> His Divine Will 10/03/10(Sun)23:44 No.12319812

The crew looks at each other. The man with the toolbox scratches his head. You can get to the dumping shafts by following the conveyer belt but... seeing as theres no way to turn it off..."

The man with the nail gun cut him off. "The ventilation system is big enough for you girls. But not your power armor..."

The Overalls man seemed deep in thought. "Darel had a key to the office before he... well..." They looked at the barricaded door. "Not sure if he still has it though... and removing this plate could take a while..."
    >> Anonymous 10/03/10(Sun)23:44 No.12319813

Seeing Anna's face at least once should also improve her chances to survive exponentially. Unless she's black, in that case she's fucked anyway.

    >The man with the toolbox scratches his head. You can get to the dumping shafts by following the conveyer belt but... seeing as theres no way to turn it off..."

They're engineers or at least mechanices. They should be able to stop it working. Would it be possible to climb the shafts once we get there?
    >> Anonymous 10/03/10(Sun)23:47 No.12319844

Ask everyone to take off their head gear (if we have head gear too lets take it off in a show of good faith)

Say that we should all make sure, after what happened with the gasmask dude (Carson was it?)
    >> Anonymous 10/03/10(Sun)23:50 No.12319878

I say NO to the conveyer belt walk.. there are still other doors in the Engine room we havent tried

I do NOT want to trust myself to an inoperative conveyer belt en route to the incinerator

    Especially with Imperium mechanics

Also.. ask them if they know where their supervising Mechanicus would be located
    >> His Divine Will 10/03/10(Sun)23:53 No.12319908

You request everyone take off their headgear. The men hesitate for a moment before the overalls man removes his dust mask and the other two remove their hardhats. The man with the welding mask tilted his face plate up again, letting you see his face.

Anna doesn't move. In fact she hasn't moved since you came into the room. One of the men approaches her slowly. "Sister err... Can you hear us?"

Anna didn't react, her glowing eyepieces staring straight ahead.

    >> His Divine Will 10/03/10(Sun)23:58 No.12319958

Anna doesn't reply or react in any way. The man in overalls hesitated before gently tapping her pauldron with a wench. "Sister?"

He jumped back as a tortured gurgled scream issued from the speaker in the girl's armor. She jerked back, dropping her bolt gun, pulling at the helmet.

You join in with the others and through your combined efforts the helmet begins to give. You pull it off halfway and you hear a loud gasp from Anna, followed by a painful scream and a wet tearing sound. Finally the helmet pulls free, taking chunks of anna's face, and one of her ears, with it.The sister falls to the ground, holding her face, Verity kneeling down to tend to her.

Inside the helmet are the same wispy tendrils that you saw on the monitor. Wherever blood had touched them they had bloated, their pastel colors dirtying to a greasy black. It let out a screech, writhing inside the helmet, reaching out, searching for a host.

It did in fact seem to be coming out of the radios on either side of the helmet.

You sheathe your sword and pull out your force knife, readying the bolter. It charges at you, screaming as you open fire on it, ripping huge chunks of its body out.

When it reaches you its still standing, bringing its enormous claws down on you. The strike takes a chunk out of your right pauldron, shreds your crimson sash, and shears off some of the metal on your gauntlet, knocking you back several feet and onto your ass.

The creature's screams echo about the room as its skin is seared to the bone.

Without wasting a second you dash in, ramming your force knife into the daemon's stomach. There is a loud crack, the air sizzling as the knife draws upon your fury, the creature dissolving into nothing but dust.

"Might be some sort of larval form." Verity piped in, gently dusting a powder onto Anna's wounds to stop the bleeding.

You rush to the door of the control room, unlocking the door quickly, rushing inside and slamming it after you, locking it once again for good measure.

The engineers and verity began working on the console, attempting to get it into a state of workability. You could feel them glancing back at you when they thought you weren't looking. You hadn't asked before but now that you were out of immediate danger, it was starting to make you paranoid.

You address Verity. "Why have you been staring at me?"

As you do you focus to find your power, realizing its already manifesting of its own accord your hair a blaze of white, the warp absent from your senses. "Praise the emperor! Zee alarm seestem vorks! Thank you for coming!" and proceeded to babble on about your heroics and everything they had seen, The canoness, faltered, looking inside the room at you, verity and anna, silencing the miners with a wave of her hand.

"Now is not the time. We are losing our engines due to this infestation We need you all out of here and on the bridge. How bad is this infestation?"

You couldn't hear what the Engineers told her, but the look of disgust on the elder sister's face was enough.

She yelled into her com. "I want as many available sisters down in the engine room as soon as possible! And bring flame units!"

I don't know OP- this is a pretty nice Quest you've got here.
Would be a damn shame if someone didn't bump it and let it 404, if you know what I'm saying.
(anyway, yeah, I'm just going to ignore the bits of the post I didn't like. I'm fine with sisters getting wounded, but I'd hate to think two died because of us)

your gonna have a hard time with the rest of this quest then anon. theres gonna be a lot of dead sisters and civies before this sees its end.

And dont get me wrong. I play a pure sisters army on tabletop (save for some flagellants) so I adore them. But grimdark is grimdark. thats half the beauty of it.

And I can handle people dieing in boatloads- it's what happens in WH40k.
This is different though then the usual sort- I mean, it's just kind of retarded for people to die just because of what amounts an editorial oversight.
I mean- well, I said that we should tell her about the radios, and the post would've been applicable to the current situation.

part of it is also this. When people state things in the quest, the first thing that comes to mind is their priority. If for some reason that comes up as an afterthrought then the result will be different because I might not see it in time. Your welcomed to take your time with your replies. A more solid well written reply will probably get you better results overall. and it will probably result in more dice skew points.

You move quickly to the medbay, finding Anna stable and asleep in bed. Several Hospitallers are working to restore chunks of her face, though she will never truly be the same again.

You make your way over to Tessa who is sitting up in bed, the symbol of the inquisition and an aquila pendant, wreathed with honors, clutched in her trembling grasp. She was reciting the Litany of the Repentant, but stopped mid sentence when you approached.

    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)14:28 No.12326470

Tessa gazed up at you, her one good eye glazed in agony. "You don't understand. How could what was done leave no stain of chaos? How am I still alive? I don't understand what the emperor wants from me!" She covered her face with her hands, a hospitaller coming over to check her vitals and to try to get her to drink some water.

The canoness's voice came crackling over the old intercom system. This system had no wireless components operating it and was much older, and probably safe.

"Everyone get into re-entry positions. We are going to use the lower thrusters to cushion our landing so the hull should remain in tact, but without the main engine it will be pretty rough. I don't want any concussions! Buckle yourself into something! And for Emperor's sake, stay away from any loose objects!"

    Irregardless, say
"Tessa- true purity comes from righteousness in action and faith. Our bodies are mere vehicles to express that. I know what happened to you was indescribable, but please believe me when I say that your are a greater person because of it. Every moment you live on is testament to our cause. Truly you are a greater woman then I."
    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)14:45 No.12326647

You strap yourself into a chair that has been bolted down next to the bed. The hospitaller straps Tessa in before buckling herself into a chair. The other hospitallers do the same with Anna and then themselves.

"... I do not know if that is true but thank you for your words Esme. I shall hold them dear. I hope that upon the day of my martyring, it is you whose side I fight by. Laus Imperator."

Your ship hits atmosphere hard, the hull groaning under the strain of reentry. The floor and walls shook so hard they risked flying apart, the noise deafening you.

The hellish experience soon passes and you find yourself gliding through the upper atmosphere, heading down to the planet's surface. The serenity, as you know, cannot last the ship groaning once again as the bottom thrusters kick in, slowing your fall immensely before a jarring impact tests the resolve of every bone in your body.

You black out momentarily, your eyes opening to a room that looked like a bunch of kroot had stampeded through it. A bit of smoke was drifting lazily out of the air vents on the walls.

Beside you, Tessa and the Hospitaller seemed fine, as did Anna and all the others. Your head wasn't too happy with you though. You hear the Canoness bark several orders through the intercom, ending with a phrase in High Gothic. It took a moment for you to process it but it was basically something along the lines of finish checking the engine and get into battle formation.

You groan, unstrapping yourself. Though your witch sense was silent, you had a bad feeling about all of this...

"I'm not letting you out of my sight." She spoke quietly so only you would hear. "So try to stand tall. We want to intimidate these people a little. I want to get what we need and leave as quickly as possible."

You put down the boltgun for now. There are a hundred and fifty sisters at the very least, all armed to the teeth. A little intimidation would make the Canoness look good.

Tessa joins you on the other side of the Canoness. She is sporting a new eyepatch and her armor had been repaired to a degree. She was also given a gold trimmed cloak. and was sporting a wicked double edged ceremonial evicerator.

The canoness galatea held up her hand for silence, the sisters falling into formation. She turns on heel, the ramp slowly lowering and marching forward. You and Tessa fall in line behind her on either flank. The sisters march behind you.

The planet outside is bright. The locals were clustered nearby, gazing in awe at the sisters. Galatea halted, the entire army coming to a stop in sync with her. She began explaining the events that have happened up to this point, leaving out the need to know details.

The locals agree with enthusiasm, wanting to throw a festival in honor of such a wondrous visit.

(you, tessa, and all those other sisters who got killed grew up together, remember? You were all part of the same schola)

You speak to Tessa in a hushed voice as the man speaks. He isn't saying anything you haven't heard several hundred times before. You take her mind back to your childhood and all the games you used to play, reminding her about the drill trainings and exercises, about cramming for those unreasonably difficult tests, about staying up past curfew to talk to the emperor just a little longer...

The man preached for some time, inviting you to eat as he spoke, his gestures ranging from peaceful and serene as he spoke of Holy Terra to violent and bombastic as he spoke of the horrors of chaos. before he held up his hands for silence. It was almost eerie with how quiet it had become. He walked in front of the golden box, bowing deeply to the Canoness. "In honor of this event, I would like perform the Rite of Purification. To cleanse this planet in the name of the emperor and to send us into a new age of zelous praise!"

Canoness Galatea has always been like a mother to you. You know everything about her. Her likes and dislikes, her pet peeves and indulgences... And yet you have never seen such an expression cross her battle-worn features.
    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)17:36 No.12328301

The Rite of Purification was something reserved for the most fouled planets. The planets that, by all means, should have been exterminatused. Planets where only perseverance through brute force and zealous faith have the planet's warp spawn inhabitants been driven away. It involved dressing a willing sacrifice whose hands have never been stained in blood, as the enemy. The belief was that all the foul wickedness that remained would rush to feast on the innocent soul as it died, carrying them away to the warp before being torn apart and lost.

Your stomach turned over as a little girl walked out, dressed in the garments of chaos, the canoness raising up one hand in warning as you began to rise.

    Schola Progenium
    From Lexicanum
    Jump to: navigation, search

The Schola Progenium are schools run by Missionaries of the Ecclesiarchy. These schools teach and train orphans of Imperial officials who have given their lives in the service of the Emperor. Orphans are educated by the Missionaries and receive a strong Imperial cult upbringing, and soon learn to regard the Emperor as their spiritual father. Graduates of the Schola are known as Progena, and because of the loyalty their training has instilled in them, graduates are sent for further training and service within another Imperial organization, often becoming Storm Troopers and Commissars in the Imperial Guard, Imperial assassins, and Inquisitors. Many girls join one of the Orders of the Adepta Sororitas.

Says nothing that they aren't allowed to have known their parents. You might as well lose them at age 7 than at age 1.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)17:57 No.12328449
No- they take young children from the schola progenium. Generally orphans, but it isn't unheard of for them to know their parents.
Anyway, I recommend talking to the Cannoness about our idea.
If she doesn't agree, then we'll go over her head and appeal to the Big E himself.
By which I mean we'll put on a show and try to convince the people to come around to our point of view.
    If necessary, use psykic powers

    lord i hope not

We are SOOOOO going to cleanse her body :3
    >> Iron Lung 10/04/10(Mon)18:02 No.12328503
Yeah. Time to get Wrath of the Emperor, and LOUD.

Do a "possessed by holy spirit" act. Roar about how the salvation of a single soul is the Emperor's Sacred Work Done.
And, because we're sincerely pious, MAXIMUM VOLUME. Fuck the feedback, fuck the possible death at the hands of our mates and our surrogate mother.
Grimdark allows good, but requires sacrifice.
We'll do it, for good of all.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:04 No.12328525
We can't really act on our own here without making the Canoness look bad, so I say we plead with her to stop this barbarous rite.
    >> Iron Lung 10/04/10(Mon)18:04 No.12328530
HDW, as I see it we were damned the minute the chaos sorcerer altered us and we concealed that taint from the Cannoness.
We have broken faith in our sisters. The cost of that will be death eventually, and a life with one eye on the shadows until then.
    So be it.
We do the right thing, for the right reasons -or as close as we can get.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:05 No.12328534
Only if it's the only option though
I'd like to not use the psykic powers too much
    >> Tripe 10/04/10(Mon)18:06 No.12328551
Let the cannoness deal with it and save all other comments and suggestions for later.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:07 No.12328560
We should check with her though, to make sure what her plan of action is at least
    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)18:09 No.12328577
    Alright working on reply now.
    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)18:17 No.12328623

You turn quickly to the canoness, murmuring in alarm. Her teeth were grit tightly, her armored gloves clenching. "I can't do anything... Once the Rite has been declared, it cannot be reversed. If indeed there is anything foul on the world it will gather here. Denying the sacrifice means risking summoning a daemon or ripping a hole in the materium."

The leader continues. "I present you honored sisters with a sacrifice of my own flesh and blood as a true symbol of our devotion."
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:21 No.12328660

"Are we not of the Adeptus Sorotias? Are we not proven to be fearless in battle, and the dread enemy of all who would blaspheme the name of the emperor? Grow some spine woman! I would rather die a thousand deaths then let an innocent die because of my own inaction. Whatever may be summoned from this invocation- the sisterhood has beaten before, and can beat again!"
    >> Iron Lung 10/04/10(Mon)18:24 No.12328689
    Blast and damnation!

...that sounds backwards though. Preventing the sacrifice of an innocent summons a daemon?
Argue more. This is _blasphemy_, a Chaos ritual in any garb occurring _right_ before our eyes!
Men must die that Man may live, but no part of that is giving souls to the warp on a sacrificial altar!
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:24 No.12328700
Why the hell didn't they tell us they were planning on sacrificing a child in our honor?
    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)18:28 No.12328747

To clear things up: dark forces gather at one point to feast on the soul of the innocent sacrifice as it passes into the warp. the soul drags the evil with it into the warp, thereby cleansing the planet of evil. the evil, however, will get pissed and turn into a daemon if you tease it and take away its food.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:31 No.12328769
Goddamit, take off our cloak and intimidating! swords and somebody hand us a proper bolter.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:37 No.12328834
    > If indeed there is anything foul on the world it will gather here.

Wait... How do we know there is something foul here? If there isn't anything evil wont stopping the ritual result in no daemon?
    >> His Divine Will 10/04/10(Mon)18:38 No.12328848
You dont HAVE to save her you know. This is a choice on your part.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:41 No.12328876
    Exactly what I was thinking.

    >> Pompieus 10/04/10(Mon)18:42 No.12328887
except keep the swords , a bolter aint gonna do shit , power swords however will
    >> Iron Lung 10/04/10(Mon)18:43 No.12328901
    Ah, ok.
    Still. This will not stand!
    >> Tripe 10/04/10(Mon)18:43 No.12328902
    That's why "if"

If the majority goes in favor of saving the girl I suggest we just take action later and act independently right before the rite. The cannoness is obviously displeased with the whole situation and I doubt will out right kill us for such action.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:45 No.12328923
    Shouldn't we organize first though?
The deamon will come down a lot easier under massed bolter fire then it will if we just challenge it to a fight.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:48 No.12328947
Use witch sight to look for evidence of possible daemon? Everyone is watching the girl and the alter, not us.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:50 No.12328964
I say we let her die. There is no telling what might appear if we try to save her. Need I remind you that there is a crowd around? How many innocents would die in our attempt to save a willing sacrifice? Not to mention the sisters we might lose. Every sister we lose in a pointless confrontation is one less sister to stand against the enemies of mankind.
    >> Iron Lung 10/04/10(Mon)18:50 No.12328966
And if a daemon gets lose and start eating heads that'll go a long way towards pushing the planet away from the Emperor's Light.

But at the same time, what do we stand for if we can't fight for the soul of the least among us?
    >> Pompieus 10/04/10(Mon)18:55 No.12329011
any daemon plaguing this planet IS an enemy of mankind , and dying in battle is the same to any sister , wether it be against heretic , xeno , or daemon
    >> Anonymous 10/04/10(Mon)18:58 No.12329045
And if you kill the daemon, then what? The planet is still hypothetically tainted. And you lost a bunch of soldiers killing a daemon. What will they do? Try again?
