72 KB Airship Quest Ch. III Commodore !vP.0Sappaw 09/30/10(Thu)20:53 No.12282007
    >You are the captain of the Federal Air Ship Rouxfowl. You are the lone picket ship protecting the occupied frontier territory of Piriamsurg after an attack destroyed your sister ship. When you went to salvage the wreck, you came under attack by pirate raiders. While you repelled them, you were forced to limp back to the airfields for repairs.

Outside your office window, FAS Rouxfowl sits besides the twisted metal wreckage of FAS Poanvic. It is the early evening, a scout flight has just touched down from a routine sweep of the mountain pass that separates Piriamsburg from Imperial territory.

Three requisition forms sit on your desk to be initialed and sent off to Central. Jacklyn Suchelatti comes in with a fresh cup of tea, her uniform always impeccably creased, red hair done up in a bun. The Federal Air Fleet seal painted onto bright white porcelain.

"Pirates hit the last commissary supply boat, captain, so no coffee sir. Sorry." She sets the cup down on your desk and sits on the corner. "Mr. McKeon has the new dispatch from central, sir, and there's mail from you from the magistrate."
    >> Commodore !vP.0Sappaw 09/30/10(Thu)21:02 No.12282099
The top requisition form has already been completed by Lt Dante, excepting for final approval. Please confirm a selection for Rouxfowl's weapons load out.

The basic High Explosive and Flak shells will be no trouble, but several other options are available for the remainder of the armament.

    [_] Armor Piercing shells
This is the standard load out for a Federal destroyer.

    [_] Incendiary shells
Mr. Dante has been requesting these to combat lightly armored pirate vessels.

    [_] Discharge shells
Commodore Sappaw has suggested you instead requisition thee prototype weapons which can knock out enemy electrics and lift coils.

    I'll need a second then.

As for a status report, Mr. Whitehouse from engineer has been running ragged to get the ship back together, but Rouxfowl remains grounded. Your air wings are depleted, but have just received new ratings to fill out the crew, and Angelo and Fox have been pushing the new pilots to get them prepped.

    >Back. I'm so sorry about that guys, I thought we would be in session for close to another hour.

Miss Suchelatti kicks her feet back and forth at the edge of your desk. "Are you even awak, cap?" she teases, her finger spinning the propeller of a model set beside your name plate.

Rouxfowl has been your first command she is narrow, barely wide enough for the badmitton court sometimes set up on the deck at her widest (the WOEFULLY bad idea that was.) She can navigate a narrow mountain pass with relative ease and cruise from one side of the province to the opposite in a days time. In combat, her skin is riveted iron that does well to deflect small arms fire and flak bombardments, but full size guns mounted on Ship's Launches and of course aggressor airship's can punch through. She has a pair of dorsal batteries, one on each side, and another on the aft; along with anti-air point defense machine guns. Set into her keel are six lift coils and the flight deck, which normally houses eight scouts and fifteen interceptors. Those numbers now, however, have been thinned to two scouts, two interceptors, and the two captured Imperial fighters currently waiting under guard in the airfield hangar.

Your secretary hops to her feet. "Ground to captain?" She says taps on the letter from the local magistrate she has brought.

Also, see if we can make any hard modifications anytime soon. I was thinking of a thin and disposable conelike object on the prow(the front isn't it) of the ship that could open up, withstand the impact of our ship hitting another head on or t-boning them, and unload troops to board a ship.

"That will be all, Miss Suchellati." You say, returning her grin involuntarily.

The letter is from Elwest Elevord, the magistrate for the town of Piriamsburg. While the province is occupied, the Federation has imposed certain precautionary measures, most of which have been willfully ignored. Elevord, however has been a supporter of your involvement here. The letter is the formal request to gather and hold a harvest festival in town tonight for the township and surrounding area, before the freighters begin to arrive to take the harvest to market.

While you're sure that things will go ahead even if you tried to put a stop to it, you are at least abreast of the goings on.

The tank would specifically be placed inside of the ramming spike/cone, and we would most likely be smart enough to ram an area on a ship like a hangar......or mess hall?
    >> Commodore !vP.0Sappaw 09/30/10(Thu)22:26 No.12283036
You set the letter aside, and turn back to the requisition forms. Central command has been able to scrape up fresh air wings for you. You have a few options to call in.

[_] Replenish the Scout and Interceptor wings
    The default for Rouxfowl.

[_] Convert the Interceptors into all-purpose Fighters, and request an Assault boat with infantry compliment.
This would provide for boarding actions.

[_] Convert and requisition two full Fighter wings with heavier ordinance than Interceptors.

With regards to a boarding spike, you would likely want to take this up with Mr. Whitehouse, your chief engineer, as the project will require significant refits. Rouxfowl does not have the stowage for armored vehicles, but already has a small arms armory in the event of boarding actions.
    >> Newfag 09/30/10(Thu)22:27 No.12283051
I feel like the boarding spike is suicidal at best. Once the two ships are locked together whats to prevent a point blank slugfest?

[X] Convert the Interceptors into all-purpose Fighters, and request an Assault boat with infantry compliment.
This would provide for boarding actions.

As for the armory, issue orders for sidearms to be issued to all crew; to be worn at all times, no matter how loudly they bitch. Requisition additional sidearms to keep the armory stocked with a few spares.

No more of this shit with mechanics charging armed pirates with naught but a spanner.

    >>12283036
Two full fighter wings, we would do better to not have to expend MORE human resources on ventures that might not be efficient, or necessary.

The ramming spike itself would accommodate the tank itself. Think like I wouldn't carry a tank on board the airship like I wouldn't place a bullet on a gun for storage. However I would place said bullet into the barrel of the gun for ready use. Along with an accompanied infantry crew of course.

You sign off on the forms to request an assault boat and infantry squad. Constructing a ramming spike also crosses your mind, and you scribble down a note to go over the plans with engineering to find the best way to implement the modifications.

There is one more requisition form, this one is addressed to Captain Hugh Long, the late captain of Ponavic. Its a form letter, printed out by one of the difference engine back home, which explains why it has been addressed to a deceased man. You mark the corrections and tear the seal.

The last requisition forms are the late arriving agreement to get a second ship to the Piriamsburg picket. Unfortunately, that ship must be Ponavic.

[_] Request the necessary crew and equipment to begin repairs to the destroyer Ponavic

[_] Utilize the refit requisition to attach extended broadside armor to Rouxfowl, providing extra defense to the hull and lift coils, but rendering the forward most battery unable to wheel around to the sides. (Giving you two guns in each firing arc but your aft, with one)

[_] Tear out the lower engineering bay sections and mount gun on the keel.

The festivities have already started by the time you get down to the town square. You flip a federal penny to the coach boy. On a stage, a brass band plays, and a long dais table has an empty chair at the end beside the town magistrate. The balding man waves you over, he wears very traditional green pleated tunic and kilt. Further down the table, two young local kids are elevated up as "King and Queen."

"Captain." Magistrate Eelevord says as you sit down beside him.

Also, I didn't necessarily say would PAY the pirates. They are pirates after all, we would offer pay, half up front half after. As supper arrives on the dais you strike up a conversation with Elwest. "Frankly captain, we've paid a fair bounty to keep the harvest safe. Although..."

He looks up to make sure the music won't lull while he speaks. "I'd bet my left nut that there are pirate skippers here tonight."

A pair of kids run by shooting each other with sparkling fireworks, their arms outs stretched and their lips buzzing with the familiar whirl of plane propellers.

He goes on to tell a meandering story over the next meal courses. Groplitz has always been a mining town, but the empire has made moves to industrialize. Water resources have been strained, if the Magistrate's cousin is to be believed, and capturing Piriamsburg's reservoirs has become an objective, if only to hasten mining.

It doesn't take long. When you step down from the dais after dinner you hear a clack of steel-toed boots approach from behind you. You turn around. "So let's talk captain. Because if you're fixing to make things difficult for us, then I've only got so many words to say. And do I speak for the whole crew of Ataresm?"

Was the modified carrier that we fought NOT shot down? If it wasn't then shit.

Plan formed in my head. We could have our ship once we are up and functioning to pass over the ridge into Imp space. Once we are there we can do a normal mission but have the pirate lagging behind. We will then wait and be bait for an Imp or pirate ship to come attack us. When they do though THEIR pirate ship will start a mock engagement with us. Fighters and what not will be scrambled and we can make it look like we are going at it with well placed pyrotechnics. Dante likes pyrotechnics I'm sure. When the other pirate or IMP ship decides to take advantage of the situation, suddenly. PIRATE SHIP AND US ARE wiping their sorry asses across the ground.
