Lobsterman quest - Chapter II -

You are Hxu-2891, seasoned Lobsterman soldier of Colony 07. The war with the planet Earth’s human population has been going for 9 months now and you are among the second wave of Lobsterman deployed. With three months of duty and three successful missions behind you, your cybernetic upgrades and experience made you a fearsome opponent. In the last mission you have suffered an accident that somehow connected your mind to the M.C network and strangely you manifested the potential for M.C abilities something unique to your kind so far, even more strangely nobody around seem to have realized this or have any interest in it.

You were asleep after your last mission, it s been three months since you first awoke in your cloning chamber and started your service against the humans A lot has happened since that even tough you only went through four missions. Today as per usual the reactivation program awakened you, once again you do not know how long you have been asleep; you exit your recovery tank after the fluids drained and it turns off. You feel refreshed all damage from the last mission are gone, you were implanted all implants you selected last time.

Your interface messages you that you are to report to the assembly hall for the next mission, you go to the assembly hall with several other of your kind and prepare for your next mission.

You have chosen: Trade Route attack

Your mission is to assault a cargo ship that carries a hidden piece of cargo that is of great importance to the humans, expect resistance as probably it will be guarded. After landing you are to eliminate all resistance and proceed to Cargo bay 02, find cargo crate labeled W35DD and secure it then wait for the retrieval team to extract it.

You get your standard equipment and soon take off in an escort type ship, your mates seem to be relatively freshly out of the cloning facility, you can tell that from their minor software upgrades. The flight from base is rather uneventful, no human crafts endanger you despite that your craft is small and not the fastest it could be an easy prey to an Interceptor craft. Later the wind starts to get heavy and the craft occasionally tumbles on the hectic wind, perhaps the bad weather is the true reason the humans did not come after you yet.

In due time the pilot signals that you are nearing your target, your squad will be dropped and after you are on your own. You are in command.

From which side do you approach the ship?
    >> Anonymous 09/10/10(Fri)17:54 No.12034090
I shall choose to direct my team to attack from the stern, let their wake conceal our approach and then set upon them in surprise.

The pilot acknowledges your request and steers towards the rear of the ship, advising you to stand by.

The Door opens and you quickly jump on board the ship, the seas are not in a peaceful mood today the waves crash and tumble around you, the wind is not very strong down here. Your eye coating adapts itself to the low light and soon you can see pretty in the night. Once again out of water you feel a bit uneasy at first, the environment is cooler, yourself and your equipment is a bit heavier and your breathing is supplied by your implants. The surface world is still quite alien to you, your mates probably find it even more so. Towards your North is the ship’s main control deck towards your South is the sea you see stairs leading up.
    >> Anonymous 09/10/10(Fri)18:08 No.12034302
I give an encouraging chitter to my team mates, encouraging them to perform well and please our masters and then send 4030 on point up the stair well, instructing him to remain vigilant for the humans, I give the lobster command for weapons free. Our first goal is to make for the control cabin and sever their communications and halt their course.

Can I give orders to capture officers or is that too complex for our lobster minds?
    >> UnderwaterDM !FfgJ34tTWI 09/10/10(Fri)18:15 No.12034413
You can give any order. Your mind is quite well developed Lobstermen are intelligent soldiers, mostly single minded in following orders rarely showing true individuality but in general I treat them as human level intellect, somewhat artificial but still. Don t forget that al Lobstermen are cybernetically enhanced. You all have cybernetic interfaces which serves the purpose of battlefield communication should you need it so technically you can speak with each other. However currently you are not able to communicate with humans at all.
    >> Anonymous 09/10/10(Fri)18:22 No.12034491
I give the following orders having reached the deck and searched for signs of humans.
1)4030, 5317- approach the control cabin with stealth, eliminate all opposition that may detect you.
    2) Sieze the control cabin, silence their radios and communications. Destroy their drive system controls, deactivate their drives first.
    3) Silent weaponry and assault only unless an alert is raised.
    4) Medic- with me as we cover their approach with our lobster guns or whatever.
Additional: 3) Capture any human commanders/officers that seem relevant for information extraction

53 and 40 climbs the stairs as quietly as they can you and 14 follow suit, on a signal they break the door and get ready for a fight. The room on the inside is much lighter as the humans cannot see in low light vision, they see the crew, there is a table on their right and machinery and consoles in the middle and left side of the room. Three humans are dressed in familiar blue combat armor the rest are dressed in different clothing, they are very surprised to see you here but the three guards grab their weapons.

Since they got the element of surprise 53 and 40 may act without needing initiative.

53 and 40 are ordered to neutralize all armed threats
    1) armored targets
    2) unarmored targets with weapons drawn
    3) any target making a move to signal the alarm.

    Primary targets
    1) armor humans
    2) humans at consoles
    3) humans with weapons

Am I able to discern what is an alarm trigger or something on the consoles or whatever?

Two of you shoot at the retreating guard and one misses one hits the head, the sonic shot shatters the and human skull with equal ease the guard trips and moves no more. While you were at this the last guard shoved the civilian crew member out of the way and prepares to shoot but you still got the advantage.

All 3 of you may shoot if desired.

    >>Am I able to discern human rank and authority from their uniforms?
Sadly no you have been given no data about this and the crew members as civilians they do not wear strict uniforms.
    >>Am I able to discern what is an alarm trigger or something on the consoles or whatever?
Sadly not that either you do not know any detail about how human technology works, you can open doors and basic self explaining stuff but nothing else.

My squad and I open fire on the guard being the nearest threat, and afterwards will seek to us my "MC" on the cowed humans once we tear a few of them apart to let them know we mean business. I shall know their secrets! How many guards, how many on the ship, what must be broken to silence this craft, and what type of nutrients are in their larder.... that last one is for later... we rather like those frozen friend shrimp things they sometimes have in human settlements.

You open fire on the last guard before he could find shoot a chance to shoot back and a straight hit kills him with little theater. You can hear the crew members scream in horror as you slaughtered their “guards” with little effort. The back off from you towards the wall but they are cornered the only exit out of this room is behind you your squad.

A closed hatch leading to the lower level is visible on the corner of the room.

    >>"Your sssseeeeecretssssss.... give them to meeeeee" I rasp in whatever the hell goes for lobster mind speak.
LOL! Awesome you are really geting into this I m so sorry say that you cannot do that in such detail.

Please do not forget that you are completely new to M.C, you got the ability because of the plot. Currently the three basic abilities you know are:

    Level 1

Shared vision – Look through the eyes of your target, target must be alive and willing.

Read minor thoughts – Only basic thoughts are seen, target is alerted. If the target is willing you can read into things he allows you to.

Minor Confusion – Successful attack that confuses the target for a short time of a few seconds, target suddenly wonders what is happening around it for a moment but quickly remembers what is happening around itself.

Your squad grabs the humans and shoves all of them to the corner unharmed, well mostly as you cannot really tell they seem to be screaming whatever you do to them. You grab one with your upper claws and use “Read minor thoughts” on him.

The process is a bit slow, you try and connect to him using the M.C web you vision narrows and darkens as you concentrate, slowly your vision appear in the black empty space like place you saw when you linked to the Synomium device in the end of the last mission, this time however only your mind and the human’s mind is shining white in the endless darkness, your squad and nothing else you cannot see like this. You try to look into the human’s mind after some concentration you can catch a glimpse of a few images, you see yourself and your squad, the guards, and other humans flash, you concentrate more and try to uncover more. Then you finally catch a picture of a large covered container, it is in a large room with metal walls accompanied by several other smaller crates.

Having found the limits of my abilities I rasp to my squad "It issssss hereeeee......" and proceed to kill the human. "Ssssssecure the top deck...." My team and I kill the remaining humans.
I order 4030 and 5317 to scout out the remaining top deck while medic and I proceed to open the hatch to the below deck, taking caution to remain above and use my acute lobster senses to sniff the air for human... meaning I twiddle my antennae and do what I can listen and smell for nearby humans down below the hatch. I assume 4030 and 5317 will go through opposite paths, one to the left of the control housing, the other to the right, sweeping the stern.

You end the M.C connection and the blackness fades away, the world you see returns to normal around you, this undertaking was taxing for your mental capacity but you managed to get what you wanted, it seems this human had little resistance to your probing. Your squad finishes off all the remaining humans in the room, 40 and 53 then walks out as ordered. They go down the stairs in the night and inspect the rest of the ship they see stairs leading downwards and large crate firmly fixed to the ship.

You and 14 inspects the hatch and you see that it has a “02” on it, while you do not know what these signs mean they match the picture of the cargo bay you have been briefed. Strangely the hatch is not locked you open it easily, your lobster senses see no humans in the vicinity you do catch the strong smell of rust and wet metal, you do not hear anything either so you and 14 climb down. You are now in the lower level in a large storage room with numerous crates but all of them are too small, the one you are looking for is much bigger. There is a door at the opposite end of the room.

You take a grenade and get it ready while 14 takes place behind crates to cover you, this door is more of a gate it is large has two wings and a handle that needs to be turned, you suspect that it is to keep the water out should the ship’s hull gets breached. You hear nothing at all you try to turn the handle on in one way but it gets harder so you try it the other way and it gets lighter in a few moments you hear clanking noise as the locks spring open. Mates I thank you very VERY much for your participation but I think it is wise for me to stop here. My eyes are hurting and my typing ability is failing, now it s almost 4 o clock in the morning since I’m an EUfag, I will try to continue this on Saturday and Sunday. I usually start at round 20-21 EU time which is around 15-16 or so US time. The quest E-mail address is up at the E-mail field should you have questions or anything later.

Thanks to everyone who participated to get Chapter 2 started, after 3 attempts last weekend and receiving no answers after waiting 3-5 hours I m overjoyed that we could finally get this going. I will archive this thread in a moment.

FEEDBACK TIME! Did you enjoy tonight’s session? What would you like to see different or in the future? Besides me being slow with the updates and ending early for your time.
