You know what time it is, it's ZEONQUEST TIME!

    (NO ZABI! NO!)

Well, Zeonquest time +20 minutes or so.

You are Commander David Lister of the Principality of Zeon. Ace pilot and leader of the Nachtmaren Unit. You've been fighting across the america's for the last 7 months, but now it's crunch time: The Battle for Odessa.

The Federation's mounting a major operation to push you out of Odessa and if they manage it, you can kiss victory in this war goodbye.

You've spent the day hunting down the Federation Commander: General Revil who is leading the battle personally. After taking down the Stallion and the Invincible 8th you finally managed to close the gap between you and Revil's Big Tray battleship when...

    >You're about 100 meters away from them when it's rear end seems to warp and ripple through the grainy IR viewscreen, it suddenly distorts almost fluidly and splits into four leaping shapes that fly towards you.
You stop and fire a burst from your beam carbine into one of the shapes. The yellow shots lance it, and then the mobile suit underneath casts it off. You see him hurl an IR distorting smoke grenade into the floor, and in the few moments you see the V-Fin of your opponents.
    >Unknown Model Gundams.
    >Four of them.

    Gentlemen: IT'S A GUNDAM.
    >> Anonymous 08/27/10(Fri)12:44 No.11844628
    Artillery strike time.

How is our Rhino doing and where's the Spotter?

And if they like to attack a single unit as a closed team like the Black Tristar, surround them. Add Grenades. Them standing close together is good for us.

Can our Wappa Infantry set up a trap somewhere? Hide in buildings with anti-MS launchers?

    Current situation is like this.

You team has only taken limited damage and consists of:

You: Act Zaku with Gundam Shield and Beam Carbine + Grenades
    Zolomon: Gyan Kreiger
Elaine: Gelgoog B with 330mm Bazooka and Beam Rifle
    Jolyne: Gelgoog K (Cannon)
Bernard: Zaku Kai with you spare Zaku Bazooka since he lost his in the fall, and a shitton of mixed grenades and other stuff.
Calvin: Pezun Dowdage E (Recon type)

    >> Anonymous 08/27/10(Fri)13:05 No.11844817
The place is mostly fields and we've still got infantry and tanks in our rear...

To be honest, we're in a shitty situation here. The tanks and infantry can advace along that road and over those fields at a decend pace, our Rhino is wedged between them and another heap we're probably currently keeping supressed with arty and there's four Gundam between us and our designated target.

If there's any chance that our side could hold on to that airfield, I'd say let the Rhino withdraw into that direction, forget about Revil for now and concentrate on holding the airfield and surviving the Gundam.

If the Rhino moves to the other side of the road, we could switch our artillery to Revils Land Battleship.

We did not plan this as a long battle and if it's gonna be a long one, we better make certain that we maximize our profits.

You aren't holding the gundam, they're just depleted by sending most of their planes into the massive furball you started in the last thread. You don't know what the ground defences are like.

But the general plan your saying is move that Rhino to that small village down the road from Novopetrovika? And meanwhile our group tries to get into some kind of cover to fight these gundams?

Do remember you are currently surrouned by IR blocking smoking and are relying on sonar responses to track the enemy and your allies.

You won't be albe to send laser-comm orders until the smoke clears.

Pull back out of the smoke far enough that we can communicate. Get Calvin and Hovis to land a few shells in the cneter of that smoke cloud in case the Feds use it to advance in cover. Our team splits off to either side and tries to catch them in a crossfire.

You jump backwards trying to get out of the smoke cloud, you hear the clatter of explosions and weapons fire around you and the smoke eventually clears. You see that Bernard and Elaine had the same idea and have also emerged. You search for Zolomon but can't see either him or Jolyne.
You can still hear beam fire from the smoke cloud as well as machine gun fire that seems to come from random directions, you all do your best to ignore it.

"Hovis, Calvin we've got entire Gundam Squad here, and I'm not comfortable with your position, head northeast towards the town, get into some cover! Also, can you see Zolomon or Elaine?"

"Zolomon just charged out of the smoke cloud, doesn't look like he hit anything on the way, he's still attacking the big tray from the looks of it. No sign of Jolyne. You want me to tell him to withdraw back to you?"

How much ammo does Zolomon have left?
What I am thinking is that if we tell him to attack and manage to keep the Gundams' attention on us, Zolomon may be able to do quite a bit of damage to the Big Tray, possibly even disabling it.
On the other hand, his Gyan is mainly a short-range combat Suit. If he hasn't got enough missiles and bombs left any attack he might make would prove to be both dangerous and ineffective.

Tell him to disable the battleship and maybe takeout it's com systems. Dont stick a heat hawk through it's bridge.

Is Elaine with us or in the smoke cloud? Either way find somebody to cover Zol and then the two of them can turn back and help us with these MS. The fact that they didnt use beam rifles on us is a good sign, try to keep them at range.

    >>11845075

Un, it would at least be prudent to support him with arty. Best would be to pull him out of the shit until we've reestablished some ammount of controll.

Nex step should be to use the Wappas as spotters again. As long as we can keep check on the Gundam I don't mind him storming in again.

    >How much ammo does Zolomon have left?

He's only used the Shield Mounted Grenade launchers once, and the Beam guns a couple more times, he's fine for ammo.

But for the record, the Gyan Kreiger is primarily a close combat suit, and that's Zolomon in the pilots seat.
If he can close to the Big Tray, ammo won't be a problem.

You order Elaine to go help Zolomon whilst he madly charges forwards. She moves off to help him.
Suddenly you see Jolynes Gelgoog Cannon leap up facing backwards, firing it's shoulder mounted beam cannon into the smoke. Bullets craze around her as she uses her jets to drift sideways slightly. She lands just as a pair of Gundams flank her, brandishing what appear to be a pair of short length beam sabers, only reaching about 3 or 4 meters in length in each hand.

Cant say I remember that bit. We were still in Arizona when people started asking about the Xamel.

I've been thinking more about armor materials for dealing with beam weaponry. I'm starting to think a form of reactive armor might be something to look at. If we could sandwich layers of beam chaff with other materials that'll expand when superheated it could be used as a beams of dispursing the chaff in small areas.

You give the order to back Jolyne up to the rest of the squad and you dash forwards to try and even the odds.
Jolyne parries the first slash, spins around with her jets to parry another attack coming in from the second Gundam she thrusts the second blade of her beam naginta backwards and the enemy gundam back flips out of the way you see it toss a small grenade and your viewscreen goes opaque as the flashbang goes off. You fire nevertheless in their direction, but you can't hear if you hit anything. When your viewscreen resets itself you see an otherwise unharmed Jolyne backing away from the now dissapaiting cloud, firing her beam cannon into it.

You give the order for the team to pursue.

"If we can keep those Gundam's off Zolomon's back, we can finish this mission and bug out before the enemy reinforcents arrive!"

    "Roger!"

You run parralel to the now almost gone smoke cloud, through it's thinnning shround you can make out the outline of a destroyed Gundam, evidently somebody on the team managed to take one down.

You can see the first of these new Gundams make off after the attack team you sent already, and the somewhat obscured forms of the other two behind him. The first one must have started off earlier.

"Elaine! You've got an anemy following you! Peel off and deal with him whilst Zolomon deals with the target!"

You move into the murk and fire at the enemy shapes. They're weaving forms make hitting them difficult and although you're shots are close you don't make contact. Following your lead, the other suits join in, lending their fire to your attack as well. You see sparks fly as one of Jolyne's spots nick the enemy on the shoulder.
The two Gundam's respond by firing their machine pistols blindly back at you. You can dodge easily but it means disrupting your firing positions for a few moments.

Meanwhile you see that Elaine has engaged the furthest enemy, but it has devolved into a running battle between the two. Elaine's shots with her beam rifle going wide due to the pilots acrobatic maneouvers and his shots failing to make it past Elaine's armour or her shield.

You see the Big Tray launch smoke and flares and Zolomon dive into the mass now obscured.

You charge forwards to close the gap between the other two Gundams, using your shield to deflect their bullets.
Realising that they can't escape. The two of them turn to face you, and dash towards you Beam Knives in hand.

General vote seems to be with Flashbang and a Cracker with Bernard and Jolyne flanking them.

You jerk backwards, a couple of primed grenades in your hand they drop in your wake. Despite the poor light the two Gundam's still manage to spot the two munitions and struggle to use their verniers to get out of the way.
Just before you're viewscreen goes opaque again from the flashbang you see Jolyne and Bernard closing in on the two.
You fire a tentative burst with your Beam Carbine, and continue to back up when your feet touch the ground. Taking the oppourtunity to reload you're now empty Carbine.
As your viewscreens reset themselves (again) you see Jolyne standing over the ruined shape of a destroyed Gundam, and Bernard firing off into the distance from a rapidly retreating foe.
You can't see how Elaines fight is going.

You tell Jolyne and Bernard to pursue the fleeing Gundam whilst you head up to Elaine to see how things are going.
    Badly as it turned out.
Elaine's lost her gun arm to a close range slash from the enemies beam knive, her hand has a tight grasp on the Gundam's second hand to stop it from finishing her off. You pull up your Beam Carbine and fire a burst at them. The enemy leaps trying to dodge, but tethered to Elaine one of your beams slice into it's leg. Sparks fly and the kneepad armour shears off.
Elaine uses this oppourtunity to toss the enemy Gundam further and it's arm grasped in her hand is ripped off at the elbow in a cascade of sparks. The gundam flies uncontrollably about 50 meters before it lands awkwardly and rolls a couple of time. You see detritus fly clear of it.
One of which promptly explodes into a massive cloud of smoke.
You look over to your left to see another wide and rolling smoke screen, with Jolyne and Bernard firing into it.

"It took heavy damage before it dropped the smokes. Should we persue into the smoke Commander?" Bernard asks.

"I'm fine too sir don't mind me." Elaine comments.

You put three shots through the trunk of it. Most probably severing it's communication lines to the rest of the ship, destroying it's power lines to the main reactor (some stuff will have emergency back-ups on the bridge though) and possibly cutting it off from the rest of the ship.

All of this assumes that Revil was on the command bridge at the time.
This is how things look now.

Knock out the airfield and Evac from there. If we can't get Revil then knocking out their air capacity will do wonders for the rest of the battle.

Meta: And might be enough to convince M'Quve to not break the big Treaty due to our failure to capture Revil.
    >> Stupid Ginger 08/27/10(Fri)17:19 No.11847314
OK, a few things. We should definitely head east, either following White Base to go rendezvous with Char or make an attack on the airfield. I like the latter, mainly because that way we'll have a nice point for pickup and it would be easier to get Hovis and Calvin to.

MORE IMPORTANTLY: It looks like we've got almost the majority of Federation forces after us. WE NEED TO RAISE M'QUVE AND TELL HIM NOW IS THE TIME TO COUNTERATTACK. We have the enemy off guard and distracted. A nice push could either severely damage the Federation forces or get some of the enemy off of our backs.

Yes. We need to be audacious here, and the airfield is both strategic target and ideal pickup point. Hell, the Feddies probably would have issues shelling us for fear of damaging things further before we escape.

Also, see if Anita can patch us into the strategic bands and see if the Feds are making a general push to the rear.

Air field, but i'm the one who suggested it so i don't know if my vote counts.

Seriously, it should be mostly plains and infantry guards. Also lacking a place to land and refuel close bye, all their air units will have to leave the battle early to get to the next closest air field in time. that is if they don't leave immediately.

The target is soft enough that the team mates who can't fight at 100 percent can bring up rear guard and not be in an real danger.

It's not the Majority of the Federation forces. It's just the majority of Federation forces ON THIS PARTICULAR FRONT.

Calvin is in the fastest suit so he should make some high speed passes along the outer edges of the airfield to clear out any defenses or paint them for Hovis. Even with the tanks moving at max speed we should be able to get to the airstrip several minutes ahead of them. It might be getting close with the enemy MS. The real trick will be dealing with any MS that are between us and airfield, that Gundam is still out there.

You quickly retreat north east trying to avoid the incoming enemy forces. You enter a town with decent cover, but you move carefully, aware that there's at least one Mobile Suit somewhere in this vicinity. You make sure Calvin keeps a careful eye out on your vicinity, even so however your progress is slowed. You can see moving Mobile Suits and Tanks out in the open fields, illuminated by the fires no running fairly rampant thanks to the dry unharvested wheat they're filled with.
It should slow down the Tanks and any infantry at least...

You clear the first town and are luckily afforded with some treeline cover which you dash across, hoping to not be noticed by the incoming forces. Luckily the southern troops are badly disorganised and you manage to make it without incident into the second town where Calvin and Hovis are staying.

Within short order you meet up with them.

"What's the situation look like Calvin?"

"Fresh and organised troops from the north will be on top of us in minutes, if were booking it to the airfield, we have to go now. I haven't gotten close enough to get an idea of what sort of defences they have, but I don't think were going to have time for a proper reconnoitre."

You order Zolomon to deal with the advancing enemy and tell Hovis to deal with the retreating Guncannon whilst Elaine takes shot's at fuel tanks and Bernie and Jolyne start shooting at Flak Vehicles.
You have Calvin link up with the Outer Heaven on Laser Comms.

"Commander Lister to Outer Heaven, we need immiediate retrieval from the following coordinates. Enemy forces incoming Over."

"Roger Commander! We're pulling in now, ETA is 5 minutes!"

You see Hovis fire off a mighty salvo from his portside rockets as well a repeat rapid fire from his main gun. The enemy Guncannon is bracketed by explosions and there's a resounding clang as the enemies return fire slams into the front armour. It buckles, but holds.

Zolomon meanwhile charges forwards against the GM Striker, deflecting the majority of the enemies fire with his shield, which is itself cycling RPG's from it's firing ports. The explosive munitions are inaccurate however and whilst not of them hit, they are probably providing an extra layer of distractions to the enemy.
The GM Striker, it's Beam Spear drawn thrusts forwards towards Zolomon, his thruster flare and Zolomon leaps over it, spinning, his Beam Lance slices out and cleaves the Beam Spear in half.
In his next rotation he takes off it's arms and left leg at the kneel. His final rotation severs the other leg.
The now completely disarmed mobile suit slams into the mud face down, smoking and immobile.
The maneouver takes less than seconds.

    "The situation is this commander..."

Our attacks and recon data have seriously destabilised the enemy offensive in this area. The air battle is largely finishing in our favour as enemy units are retreating back to an alternative landing zone. Our air forces are retreating back to support the defence lines, and cover our return.
With the attacks heavily lessened, our forces pushed forwards to add to the pressure, but the enemy forces held using our own defensive emplacements from the 2nd defensive live. But we used the oppourtunity to deploy almost the entire Engineering corps to this area and reinforced the 3rd line heavily. It'll be next to impossible for the enemy to breach this front now, and we can defend it much smaller allotment of troops, allowing us to divert them to the western and northern fronts of this battle.
Head command says that it was able to keep the pressure on the enemy sufficiently to force them all the way back to the 2nd defence line, practically a reversal of this morning here. Although they're rallied around the fallen Pegasus class carrier and the heavy fires are making advancing difficult to impossible. Not least because the smoke makes laser communications impossible, making a night attack impossible to coordinate.

I also have message from Base Commander M'Quve:
"Well, it doesn't look like you were able to take Revil out, but it appears that you did at least take him out for a good few hours. We noticed several fractures in command and enemy coordination during this time which we put to good use cementing our defensive positions, literally usually. Would it be possible to air strike that downed Pegasus rallying point? if a majority of the forces have all congregated there, and we took out their air power. I'd say a simple old fashion bombing run might work in our favor there.

Or did that second defense line have AA defense?

Well it's good to know that M'Quve is 'happy.' Happy enough not to use nukes I hope. Now we may need to go rescue Char.

How well can the Xamel jump? Because if we could get Hovis into one of those it might be easier to get back aboard the OH in future engagements.

    OMAKE

The Core Fighter landed on VTOL jets atop the ventral landing bay of the Stallion. The lift carried the small two man plane down into the damaged landing bay. Outside two figures exited the vehicle, and were greeted by the vessels Captain.

General Revil shook Captain Synapses hand.

"Glad to see you survived Captain!" Revil told his subordinate.
"One could say the same to you!" Synapse replied good naturedly.

The escape from the Stallions command bridge was frantic and rushed. Using a hand held laser communicator, they'd had to send signals to a receiver on the hangar bay, since all lines of alternative communication had been cut. Luckily Burning himself had spotted the urgent meeting just as he was suiting up, and he ordered the spare Core Fighter to be loaded onto the lift.
From there, First Officer Matilda Adjan had been forced to break the bridge window with her sidearm, and using a firehose as a rope Revil had scaled down the bridge towards Burning and his plane.

Luckily the rest of Burnings squad had managed to distract the Nachtmaren team long enough for this to be done unnoticed. All agreed, they'd gotten lucky. If the Nachtmaren had even suspected that Revil had switched ships, it could have all been over.

    "Any news from your pilots?"

"Some injuries, in the case of Monsha, his pride mostly. But all 3 mobile suits were destroyed, the Sniper 2 may be salvagable, but the Strike and Guncannon are all write offs."

"That just leaves me and my Command GM I take it." Burning commented

"Sorry Sargeant, but it looks like you're all that's left of our MS team for now."

"... and things were going so well too." Burning commented as his fished around for his lighter. Presently Revil supplied him with a box of matches, which he graciously took.

The town had been reduced to fire and smoke. Char had long since lost his wingmen, his beam rifle had been sliced in two by the Gundam's Beam Sabers and his shield destroyed by the Gundam's rocket assisted ball on chain.
In return he'd managed to sever the ball with that attack, and the enemies beam rifle had been discarded, out of ammo. He was even pretty sure that the enemies head vulcans were dry.

They were now facing each other him with his Beam Naginta drawn, the Gundam brandishing a pair of Beam Sabers, Char moved in to the attack. Their blades clashed in a lightning quick set of exchanges. The Gundam raked him with it's head vulcans, evidently he did still have some ammo left.
Char parried the fire by spinning his beam naginta like a propeller.
    Wait...

They'd once again put some distance between themselves, and had reached an impasse. Char came to the realisation that he wasn't sure who would win if this simply came down to whose endurance would hold out the longest. He had to try something. Something possibly insane.

He disabled the rotation limiter on Gelgoog wrists. He then leapt upwards towards the Gundam. The enemy sliced upwards to catch him, and Char had his Beam Naginta spin at a ferocious rate. The effect was slight, but for a brief instant, his weapon acted like a geniune propellor, giving just enough thrust to alter his line of attack, the beam saber hit nothing but air, and Char took advantage of the enemy being overbalanced and and somasaulted over intent on slicing his enemy apart whilst inverted.
He knew within moments that the Gundam was going to dodge the attack. So he added some horizontal rotation and Char kicked him into a burning buildings instead. The building collapsed and flames and smoke obscured his vision. when it returned he could see that the Gundam had been kicked clear through. He carefully followed.
    Nothing.

It was back to hide and seek, it seemed.

    LAST OMAKE BEFORE BED

    MESSAGE TO: General A. Revil
    FROM: Lt Lloyd Baxter
    SUBJECT: Further notes post-debrief

Whilst overall our first sortie against the Nachtmaren went badly, with the loss of Private Renault and Corporal Argentine being effectively out of the war due to injuries, all but one suit relatively undamaged.
I still think it needs pointing out that taking on the Nachtmaren Unit in open terrain is effectively suicide and has been known to be so for a while.
Under the circumstances, we should be glad as many of us survived as we did.

Further to your discussion however, I do agree with your suggestions and I propose utilising technologies from the [CLASSIFIED] project to enhance the Pixy suits. I've already been talking to the Project Leader, and he's aggreed to create a retrofit package (tentatively entitled the RX-78-XXBD model) and also allot us training time with the Marmot Unit CO, who is currently the only man to take on the Nachtmaren Unit and come out almost entirely unscathed, whilst outnumbered almost 5 to 1.
Hopefully this will finally give us the edge to deal with the Nachtmaren on at the very least an even footing.

    END.

Not worried about not taking out Revil. As I thought, wrecking both ships disrupted their command structure enough to give us the breathing room we needed.

So will that firestorm. They'll literally have to wait for a burnout to get seriously back into running night assaults, and daylight attacks on our defenses will be difficult.

On the other hand, that smoke and the cover of night might well be an excellent opportunity to sneak artillery into a good position to lay down some firepower into their rallying point.

(Incidentally, Apologised- arguably the best mecha campaign I've been in, and I cut my teeth on 2nd edition Battletech.)

We have the grid coordinates where the Carrier crashed right? 155mm can reach +30km and we've talked about the Hildolfers and Rhino possibly having double that (but being unable to targetat that range) We should just shell fuck out of it before it moves.

And if there's one thing we can do well now with our current tech level it's weather a siege. Our manpower is going to be a big issue with this in the long run though. Still, our destroyed or crippled MS's can be replaced, the Fed's cant. the longer they take the less Mobile Suits they're going to have available. Yes they'll keep upgrading what they have but there's only so much that can do. If they havent broken our defense line within a few days we should ask to discuss terms for their surrender.

The answer to the problem lies in how we have advanced the cause of Zeon so many times.

Discover where superior Federation technology is to be found. Salvage it, steal it, capture it, compromise it.

We should talk to the parents about where the Feddies have been researching new and interesting toys.
