    340 KB Zeonquest Pt63 I apologized on 4chan 06/11/10(Fri)12:02 No.10426912
Welp, it's a friday, and we all know what that means.

I would have watched the world cup, but the noise the South African crowd were making with their horns seem designed to give you epileptic fits, so fuck them.

Christ UEFA, you could at least try to pretend that you don't pick host nations based on how much they bribe you.

But back to the subject at hand.

You are Commander David Lister ace mobile suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon.
    Well, most of it anyway.
For the last 8 months you and your team of elite pilots have kicking all denominations of ass across the earth sphere as part of the Nachtmaren Unit.

    LAST WEEK ON ZEONQUEST
After rescuing national sovereign Degwin Zabi from where he was being held hostage on the moon, you were picked up by Rear-Admiral Kycillia Zabi and taken to the Zeonic Moon Fortress of Grenada. From there you joined her flotilla as you headed towards Side 3 to demand Gihren's arrest for treason.
However your advance was waylaid by a fleet led by Aguille Delaz.

The confrontation did not end well.

The enemy opposed you with a mixed fleet if Vessells, including the gigantic Dolos class supercarrier.
Luckily, thanks you're blitzkrieg assault on the engines and catapult ports you inflicted crippling damage on the vessel before it could launch it's gigantic MS compliment, and so damaged it was forced to call a retreat.
Kycillia took this oppourtunity to call for a withdrawal as well and the two forces retreated to their own corners.

Kycillia explains why the fleet had to move off instead of pursuing the Dolos fleet.
"We received signals that the Side 3 defence fleet was moving up to catch us in a pincer. If we'd have pursued we'd have been caught by them from behind. So were retreating back to Grenada to take stock of the situation and work out a plan of action from here." She explains to the fleet.

Technically however, you are an independant unit outside of the chain of command, you answer only to Garma Zabi back on earth, who due to fears of message interception you still haven't been able to give a full report to.

    YOUR ORDERS?

    Thanks.

Okay, the problem with communicating with Garma is that Radio is impeded by vast minovsky clouds which are floating about the earth sphere, and using Laser Communications require using a daisy chain of communication sattilites, of which you can't be certain Gihren's faction have control over or are monitoring.
Until the situation stabilises and you have a better idea of the situation, comunicating long distance is going to a security risk no matter what ciphers you use, since Gihren's faction will have those ciphers as well.

Well, it pretty much does since it's sharing a paint scheme and now sporting a Boxer Shield. Which proably saved your hide and proved highly useful in the last battle.

    >Anyways, how long more do we have till the 2nd Jaburo Op?

You can't be sure, but about a month you think.

    >Both the EF and Zeon will be thinking we're blowing up Gundams in an F-type.

Uh, J-type, then upgraded to an F2. El Muerto was NEVER a common F type.

So, do you want to leave Kycillia's fleet and head back to earth, stopping by on Solomon along the way?

You'll have to go back to Grenada in any case, just to pick Icelina back up, as you left her with Degwin.

The entire Zeonic Central Defence Fleet. This includes at least one more Dolos class Supercarrier, 2+ Gwazine Battleships, plus a host of other vessels. Plus a lot of the latest technology comes from or goes to Side 3 as well, and it's alo where the primary shipyards for the Gwazine, Musai and Chivvay (Old Style) ships reside as well.

As much as I would want to report back to Garma, not being here will either have the situation drag out or give Gihren the win.

I'd like to return to Solomon in order to give Dozle and possibly Garma a full report, but I have two questions:

    1. Would it be easier/more secure to contact Garma from Solomon?
    2. Does Dozle have any idea what's going on?
    >> Anonymous 06/11/10(Fri)13:18 No.10428237
    >>10428155

Dragging the situation might be our best bet.

Once Degwin is capable of moving, we can use him to speak to the Central fleet and Side 3. Gihren will have a riot and mutiny on his hands.

Moving in too fast will deplete our space forces in a major battle. Not even aces will be able to help swing the balance that much. Too heavy losses and we wont be able to take Luna 2.

Not bringing Icelina back to Garma and actually meeting him in person is a bad idea. We've delayed long enough in having a face to face with out commander. Dozle can wait until we have a plan with Garma.

Kycillia will need time to regroup and strategize and we can always catch up with our fast OH if she heads off before we get back.

No way to know for sure, but Degwins Transmission to Delaz was crossbroadcasted across the entirity of the ZeoNews Network. So we can but hope.

    >What does Kycilia and Degwin think their chances without us are?

You'd need to ask them, although you doubt that either would enter a fight they think they would lose.
Kycillia controls Grenada, which aside from being a defendable military location is also the primary shipyards for the Zanzibar class and the New Model Chivvay's. It's also where every MS pilot goes to for MS training these days.
The loss of the Grenada Training facility will probably result in Gihren having to enlarge the scope of the MS Training Battalion on Zum City, which doesn't really produce pilots on the same level, and subsists on it's politcal connections alone.
Plus she has fairly tight control over the Zeonic forces in central Europe and parts of Asia.

Plus she has the support of the Flanagan Institute here on the moon.

Alright. We need to gather our gang. Head to Solomon to make sure Dozle knows what's up, and zip back to Earth to give Garma the full briefing.

He was probably worried that the rest of his fleet was wavering in their loyalty so he was going to personally get the ball rolling to force everyone's hand. He did this because he was starting to question his own loyalty and fanatics don't like to do that.

That's why I think he did it at least. He may of also put too much trust in the sheer amount of MS the Dolos can put out and got overconfident thinking he would have a sizable screen of MS by the time even the fastest Doms got there, he didn't know about our new Doms.

You've already GIVEN a sanitised report like that to him. It's the important details like what's happening now, what Degwins health is like, and how Icelina was recieved that you haven't been able to give.

    >>10428323
    >>10428370

You land back in Grenada to pick up Icelina and to get a feel for how things a sitting at the moment.

As you enter the medical wing, you stop to ask one of the doctors how Degwins holding up.

"Well, he's well enough, all things considered, however his health isn't sufficient to go back to running the country. Regardless of what happens now, one of his kids is going to have to take over the day to day running of things from now on anyway."

"Almost sounds like Gihren planned it this way..." you comment.

"Perhaps, although it could just be a beneficial side effect, let's not overestimate Ghiren Zabi either."

After picking up Icelina, who seems to have gotten on fine with Degwin luckily enough, you meet back with Ramba Ral and ask him if he's gotten an idea of how the situation stands.

"Well, from what I can tell, we've got two distinct factions forming within the Principality. The "Legitimate" Zeon led by Kycillia, and the "Loyalist" Zeon led by Gihren. 20 minutes ago, Solomon came out in favour of "Legitimate" Zeon, as did Texas Colony, Side 4 and Side 5. On earth Odessa also sided with "Legitimate" Zeon, and we haven't heard either way from Garma or from Pezun. On loyalist forces A-Boa-Qu has sided with Gihren, as have Side 2, the African Territories and the Axis Redoubt. We've also lost contact with Gryps and we suspect they've thrown in with him as well."

    "Grypps?"

"Current intelligence places it as a weapons testing centre. Probably something like Pezun."

    That's the situation.

Gihren is pretty fucked unless Garma comes out and joins him for some mysterious reason.

Holy shit! I made it in time to post my one crazy-ass plan that could totally get us all killed!

Send for Dozle, tell him to meet us at the half way point between Solomon and Grenada. We try to make it look like we're moving Degwin to Solomon to get him farther away from Side 3 and Girhen's reach. In reality we do bring Degwin but instead Dozle transfers over to the Outer Heaven. We then head straight for Side 3 with Degin's ships in persuit.

Once we're in range of communications with Side 3 we put Jolyne on the lasercom and tell them that there's been a mutiny aboard and they've captured Degwin. David Lister is in custody and that she has another pilot (Bernie) in a MS ready to vent the ship if the crew try to retake it. Thanks to Jolyne's service record there is some credibility to the story.

We bluff our way into dock in Side 3, at which point we have Dozle order the locals (that will undoubtably be about to storm the ship) to stand down. The story we go with from then on is that he is escorting his father to Girhen. We also stress that there is a Federation plot attempting to cause a civil war within the Principality. This is a flat out lie of course but it's the only way Girhen will get out of this whole situation alive AND save face.

    "What do you think?"

"It might be legit. I certainly wouldn't bank on it. Now that they know that we've spotted them however, the number of moves they could make in this position are limited. Essentially they either bank on our forces being lesser than theirs, which if they recognize even your ship is not an assumption they should make lightly, or back down. Which means either moving off or playing along and resupplying at Pezun."

"What if we launch the Bygro?"

"That would probably be seen as a hostile move, even if it wasn't they could use it as a context to launch their mobile suits. Things could escalate very quickly from there. It's up to you though, as it would also be a good way of forcing their hand."

They basically started in Axis and then looped all the way around Side 7, Side 6, and then pulled in before the moon to stop off at Pezun for refuelling and resupply. Colonel Zamza is relatively normal looking man that you think you remember from the first time you visited Pezun.

He has his back to you and is looking at a large portrait of the entire Zabi Family. He sighs.

"This is a situation that would be laughably absurd if it's propensity to end in misery and death wasn't so extreme." He comments at length.

    HOW DO YOU RESPOND?

Katoki has yet more prototypes for you to test out, but I don't think it's a good idea to transfer any Mobile Suits into your ship until I make my decision. I'll have Katoki come to you and brief you on the new models in anycase."

Less verniers and probably lower generator output since it can't support beam sabers yet. We could always request EM coating for a Gelgoog later. Besides, these are the proto-Gelgoogs, which were later redesignated the S type. A models were dumbed down.

Either way, it'll really be outclassed once the -14B, -14M, and -14Jg roll out.

"I suppose, but we only thought we'd need the one though. It IS a prototype."

    BACK TO ZAMZA's ANNOUNCEMENT.

"Gentlemen of Pezun, gentlemen I have come to know and respect, we are in a crossroads. Two factions both claiming to love Zeon equally have come to ask us to throw our lot in with them, and attack the other. But gentlemen I ask of you this, is either of these two factions truly righteous to split our nation down the middle in the midst of a war against towering numbers? I ask, no, I implore you men and women of Zeon, let us not fight one another, but instead we must concentrate all our efforts on the real foe. The Federation. In that respect, from this forth onwards, I am declaring this stations and all projects currently being undertaken within it to be neutral with regards to Loyalist and Legitmacy disputes. Those of you who cannot abide by such a decision, there are several ships in our docks who belong to both factions, and if you feel that you cannot in all good concience abide by my decision, then you should leave this station, if you do so, no adverse action will be taken against you, I will retroactively sign off your desire to be transferred to wherever you go and no more will be said on the matter. But men and women of Zeon, I urge you, think heavily for we can now least of all ill afford to be divided against the common enemy.... Well, there you have my answer, so now, I await yours. Do not dissapoint me."

    >Seems like a lot of people want one or the other; is there any reason we couldn't test both?

Well, there is a limit on how much you can store in your ship. With the Bygro removed you can fit 3 more in there, but I'm pretty sure that Pezun has been holding your Pezun Dowdages for you whilst you've been in space, so you've got to make room for those. I also think you took the Gasshia with you as well, but if you don't want those back you don't have to take them.

With the announcement made Katoki says that they can probably start transferring mobile suits to you now.

"Basically, we'd like you to test out our new Beam Rifle platform, the MS-14 Gelgoog in land warfare environments."

"So the Beam Rifle development is finished?"

"Yes although we still cant miniaturise the beam particle magazine loader technology sufficiently to store inside a warship like the Federation has. The design is something close to a small nuclear power facility, and thus immobile. It's a bit of a weakness, but we're hoping to mass produce the magazines in great numbers, treating them like any other kind of ammo. That said, try not to toss your beam mags when they're expended, the more you keep the less we have to manufacture."

    "Got it."

"What about that captured Trojan Horse we took in last week?"

"They fragged their hard drive, plus I doubt the smelting process, or whatever it is they do, would have been on them in the first place. And we've analyse the finished product inside and out... we've hit a wall it seems..."

"You mentioned a tropical Dom model?"

"Dom Tropen, it takes and improves upon the original Dom Funf base, it loses the modular nature though, still it's probably the best Land warfare Dom we've designed in terms of ability and cost effectiveness. Plus it comes with that Raketen 880 that you've been enjoying."

Okay, so you ditch an R2, convert the F2 into a Kai for Bernie to test out, then you take on 2 Dom Tropens to test out when you reach the ground. The three Gelgoogs shall go to Jolyne, Elaine and Zolomon, although Zolomon is probably going to insist on using the Gross Beil's Heat Burster Sword. You stay in your Act Zaku, now with a new Beam carbine (you ask about a Beam saber, but apparently only the Gelgoogs have the reactor for it.)

Ramba Ral is also trying to get a Gelgoog out of this, but they don't really have many more to spare. They offer him Zaku Kai upgrades, and maybe an upgrade on his Rick Dom to a Mark 2 model, but that's about it.
In about 3 hours, the work is done and your Zanzibar is fully loaded.
Ramba Ral's still having work done on his mobile suits however. Do you want to wait for him, or do you want to leave now?

"You mean we lost all of the Beam Rifle research!?" You ask.

"luckily no, thanks to the Act Zaku being our primary beam weapon test-model, all beam research was carried out from those lab sections and then donated to the Gelgoog project. But it's still a lot of stuff. Casualties aren't all that bad since most people on the Gelgoog team were Loyalists and they had already boarded the 3 ships."

    "Which are now doing what?"

"Making a break for it, they planted a minor logic bomb in the stations defence network, basically making it unable to distinguish one zeonic ship from another. Pretty neat piece of work, they get out unmolested, and if the feds attack we can still target them. We also lost communications as well, we can't even threaten them to come back, or tell our patrolling ships what's happening. Even internal comms aren't working properly. With the beam rifle, we are still in very good shape for the war as a whole. They also may want to consider doing more backups.

To be honest, with our improved tactics and production that we have been working towards we may not even need the Gelgoog. We've got pretty good Zakus at this point along with Doms. It might be better to just focus on them and not worry as much on the Gelgoogs.

The Outer Heaven, with it's superior engines surges ahead, in terms of accelleration you have the 3 ships, which appear to be fleeing to the nearest Loyalist Side, outmatched. You should overturn them in about 15 minutes.

In case I haven't been clear, the Gelgoogs aren't operating in a single squad, but as squad leaders for 3 other squads.

In any case, with Calvin as Recon, that effectively means that your force consists of 4 Mobile Suits, you and 2 Gelgoogs, one with a Heat Buster Sword instead of a shield, and the other piloted by Elaine and a Zaku Kai piloted by Bernie.
So split into 2 man pairs, one concentrates on the Gelgoogs, the other concentrates on taking out the Zaku's and Doms?

Ramba Ral's still three minutes behind, right? And what's Hovis's ETA Since we'll have to hold back against the Gelgoogs in order to disable them, try to thin out their firepower by going after the Zakus first. Keep a medium distance to the Outer Heaven, so we're close enough to support it but not too close to easily draw it into the fight.

    Ah, this will do nicely.

"Zolomon, you and me will concentrate on the Gelgoogs, I'd say aim to disable, but I don't want to underestimate the latest suit. So just take them out. The rest of you, cover us and keep the rest of them distracted as best you can, rely on covering fire from the Outer Heaven."

"Man, It's suprising how much we've come to rely on Hovis and his mobile armours huh?" Zolomon comments.

"Yeah well, with a bit of luck he'll turn up soon."

Admists the dancing beams from the ship duel between the Outer Heaven and the Musai's you begin your attack.
You dodge the Gelgoogs opening Beam salvoes using a standard dispersal advance and then return fire with your own. You're beam carbine fires in a burst of 3 brilliant yellow lances, you miss the main body of the Gelgoog, but your second shot takes out it's leg and your third takes down a Zaku behind him.
Zolomon readies his Buster Sword and proclaims that he is the Sword the Smites all Evil and with a terrific slash he cleaves the damaged Gelgoog and a Dom that was too close in two.

Okay, so generally you want to split team 1 up momentarily.

"Zolomon, you back up Bernie, I'll deal with the Gelgoog over here."

    "Roger!"

You dash around aiming to flank the Gelgoog whilst it continues to face Elaine. He narrowly manages avoid a burst from your Beam Gun and you ready the boxer shield as you dodge under his return fire.
Hmm, the accuracy of the Beam Gun isn't all that great as well, it'll need calibrating later.
He takes a couple of shots at Elaine to stop her advancing, and the second Zaku moves to distract her and Calvin whilst the Gelgoog faces you with his shield.

There is a most impressive impact and your boxer shield shatter and tears the large full body shield in half, utterly ruining it. The Gelgoog recoils back trying to get another clean shot, but you stay close to him and fire a second burst from your Beam Gun at near point blank.

As you retreat back from the explosions, you guess that the Beam Carbine is really designed for close quarters work like that.

Elaine and Calvin have finished off the Zaku as it tries to retreat, and Zolomon and Bernard have killed the Zaku, and forced the Dom to retreat back to the other 2 remaining squads. Both of which are assaulting the Outer Heaven.

"Were taking damage Commander, and the squads are pushing us back to avoid them! Can anyone assist?" Anita reports.

Suddenly, explosions craze around the Outer Heaven, for a second you think it's a new enemy attack.
But then a bright red Mobile Armour speeds through the expanding dust cloud, a Zaku in it's lobster like claws, which it promptly bisects.

"Don't worry about me Commander! I'll take down those two Musai's, you concentrate on supporting the Outer Heaven. Ramba Ral's right behind me!"

Hovis tells you from his Val Valo.

You dash fowards to engage to momentarily disrupted squads. You fire another burst from your Beam Carbine at long range, and manage to score a couple of hits, taking out another Zaku and taking anothers arm off.
You and Zolomon then concentrate on the last remaining Gelgoog whilst the others begin dealing with the Zaku's.

You're Beam Carbine is registering it being out of ammo, so you replace it with your Bullpup and draw the Gelgoogs fire with a withering storm of bullets.
He blocks the majority of your fire with his shield, although it takes heavy damage. He dodges Zolomon's swing from the side and raises his Beam Rifle to counter attack him, but Zolomon's leg swings out awkwardly and manages to knock the rifles blast off target.
A second salvo from you damages his legs and strikes the torso in several places for minimal damage, he pushes upwards keeping you supressed with shots from his beam rifle.

There's an almost comical clonk as 3 New Style Grenades strung together like christmas-tree lights collide with his head.
    Then they explode.
The gelgoog pilot reacts like a scalded cat to avoid them, but he's still caught by the blast and loses his arm.
A beam rifle shot lances out of nowhere and cleanly hits the Gelgoog dead center. You follow it's trejectory to see Ramba Ral in his Gelgoog standing atop the outer heaven.

"This is no Rick-Dom boy! No Rick-Dom!"

    Pezun's gonna be ticked...

    Oh well. Delicious field data.

SO, Nachtmaren has taken out two Loyalist Musais, and most, if not all of their MS complement. Loyalist scientists and data for the MS-14 Gelgoog were being ferried on these ships, but they would have inevitably have been used to attack the Legitimacy rather than the Federation (Gihren isn't very good at choosing priorities). Gelgoog R&D is highly crippled, but combat data might help fill in the holes that were dug in.

Our MS complement has been greatly upgraded, and Ramba Ral is in a prototype (read: better) version of the Gelgoog.

"A working prototype already? Unstable? How?"

"I see, have we had any similar problems with our prototypes? No? And we also have all of the original research notes as well?"

"Very well then, I'll authorise the continuation of the project, and the exploration of other uses for the technology. Keep me informed."

On her desk, a manilla folder with the words "EXAM" on it could be seen.

It was not, all told a technology that personally she cared for, but unfortunately she was now in a position where she had to put such considerations aside and consider what could end this fratricidal conflict she had found herself leading as quickly as possible.

I, for one, do not know what this EXAM everyone is talking about is.

I apologize for this, and will kill myself to preserve my honor once I am informed.

The EXAM's the thing where they torture a Newtype to death and use their soul to integrate with the MS better, right? I don't like the idea of this getting off the ground. Not to mention they might use Nell.

Don't worry about it, I don't think any of the original material is even available in english. Where would someone who doesn't speak moon even learn about it?

EXAM intergrates a Newtype as part of a bio-computer.

Their soul, anyway. The rest suffers a more unpleasant end.

BD-01 was a GM[G] that took apart 4 other GMs with its BARE HANDS.

A 5th GM killed its pilot. Causing it to FLEE.

    BD-02 and 03 were Gundams.

    BRB, changing pants.

So from what I'm seeing only about 3 of the original 30 YMS-14's slated to be produced will make it into active duty now because of this whole fuck up? Am I interpreting this right?

There were 6 prototypes. We just trashed 3.

On the other hand, fuckhuge amount of test data, and Ramba Ral has a hardon for the things now. That'll be big in favor of pushing development.

As long as we're getting omakes, can we get one of how the White Base's crew sees us now that we've tried to kill them more than the Tri-Stars ever did in canon?
