    9 KB Doppleganger Damacy X TempDM !!WBgKxxhAACV 05/26/10(Wed)16:57 No.10072987
The basic premise: You started out as a generic creature with no voice, no skills, feats, or special abilities whatsoever, and every stat at 10.

Whenever you eat a creature you acquire one of its traits. Permanently. For the purpose of this quest, that means I'll give you a short list to choose from.

You've been getting shit done, nomming citizenry and animals for five nights and five days. You've got a better body, and some gear too. You also have an ally, a novice human wizard named Claire. You're staying at her place and are working for rent as partner in her courier business. She just learned about what you are, and she was fairly cool with it, although she made you promise her you weren't going to be eating any more people. Yeah.

Your presence in the city has been noticed to some extent; eating an aristocrat's son, and a member of a party of sword-for-hires, will do that. You're still recovering from some Con damaging poison, which is putting a cramp in your style. Oh, and there's some Vampire Warlock thing at large that left behind a completely bloodless corpse--which you ate of course, but couldn't get any traits from the body, which was lame.

It's early evening, and it's still pouring down rain outside. What is your plan of action?

Claire was able to brew you a restorative potion, but screwed up a bit and lost half the batch. She'd need more components that she doesn't have, but you could buy more and ask for another batch to be brewed.

The cleric at the church of St. Cuthbert said he'd have a spell ready to cure you today.

Finally, it'll heal at a rate of 1 point/day naturally.

The river feeds into a lake to the north, but it isn't nearby. Shapeshifter country isn't defined; from what you've been able to gather they're living a more nomadic existence and a sort of guerrilla action against the country is forming.

There are villages nearby, mostly small wall-enclosed communities. There's a temperate deciduous forest a few miles to the west of the city. You've heard about the elven remnant living a ways in that direction.

Right. We need to get rid of some of the more useless goods.
The dwarven axe and Chainmail armor was from a slain adventurer - selling it may give the adventurers a lead, so don't do that.

However, the Scrolls (we can't use them), the Cricket bat (master knife is better), and the Alcohol (why do we even have alcohol?) can be sold.
Grab 90 or so Crossbow bolts, regular kind. Spend money on them. chances are that if we find anything good, we'll need to VERY SLOWLY whittle it down, abusing our climb/run speed.

Among numerous items clearly belonging to Cuthbert worshippers, there's a large safe tucked away. This isn't a JRPG. It's a sandbox setting. There aren't easter eggs or useful/useless rooms, except as you label them; there's locations and people that form a world. Your actions influence the world, but stuff happens in the world even if you decide to live in a cave for a few months.

its either that or the werebear, maybe both. does the adventuring party know what we look like, if not then i suggest we team up with them to track down this werebear then when we find it let them do the legwork weakening them up after which we can kill them and chalk their deaths up to the werebear.

"If you need information good priest, I'm good at being quiet. I could do some scouting up north"

Looking a little perplexed with Bluff add,

"If you could help me not get sniffed out by hungry corpses that is"

Basically come off as a potential scout for this alliance against the shambling north.

Also if they need more gold ask them about some good ways to earn it. Again the dopey hunter that gets in over his head look but with a glimmer of potential.

They tracked us to a river. While they mightn't know us at first glance, if we party with them they WILL find out.
However, getting the Adventurers to set up temporary camp outside the city for hunting shouldn't be too hard - that will isolate them. Attacking any non-humans (humans lack darkvision) of the party while they sleep at night, then running away into the darkness, will help whittle down their party size. Then we can just derp about in the darkness and strike again.

You ready your claws as you enter, and begin quietly searching. You don't even hear Morsel inside here. Taking a deep breath, you smell the scents of four unknown people that were here not long ago. It also smells like burned hair. In addition to several knocked over chairs, the couch has been tipped over as well.

If we happen to know where she keeps her spellbook, we might consider grabbing it before fleeing so that it's not incinerated. All else is much more replaceable.

Fuck you. Claire is our friend and ally. You don't abandon them, and thus you can count on them to save your ass when you need it.

I don't believe Claire sold us out. I bet they just tracked us to her place, and assumed she was responsible for us. And I'm betting the burn mark is Claire's attempt at self defense.

    >"Oh, he was a dwarf? The only people I've eaten were theives, vagabonds, drunkards, all human, all the worst kind of scum in the city. That, and animals. So unless your friend was living outside of the law, I doubt I ran into him."

    >Was it us?
    >"I'm not the only thing that consumes people in this town, and I'm not nearly the worst, trust me."

    >There are others?
    >"I've seen them. Maybe it's a habit of our kind to find each other, but I know there's at least one other, and he has no scruples about what or who he consumes."

    >Maybe it was him who ate your friend.

    >I tracked you...
    >"Perhaps your tracking skills aren't as finely tuned as you thought."

    >Where did it happen?

    >I'll admit I was in that part of town that night, but I didn't notice your friend anywhere around there. And when I met the other predator, I was completely unable to track him, and I'm very good at tracking myself (That's not me bragging, that's fact)

You check through the remaining vials, but you don't see any that look like the one the dwarf was carrying that healed you before. You stuff a couple into your pocket, maybe they'll come in useful later.

Meanwhile the fire grows, rapidly consuming chemicals and wood. You almost decide to put it out, but Claire's place isn't yours. She might not even be alive, you can always find a new place to live, it isn't your fault she'll lose her home, why should you care?

Instead you pull out the dwarf's axe from where it was hidden, and begin hacking away at the ceiling to the next floor of the apartment building, flames drawing closer as you make a hole large enough to squeeze through. The armor will have to be left behind, there's no time.

From the next floor up, you smash a hole to the roof and clamber onto it. Claire's apartment building is getting close to collapse as the flames gut it from within. The rain won't be enough to put this fire out. You hear screams as someone is burned alive, and glass breaking as another leaps out a window.

    Action?

Tour spamming of READ THE NOTE is what lost us 20 hp and probably is bringing the group of them down on us right now. We need to be a lot more careful, and we need to remember that THEY WANT TO KILL US. They're not interested in talking, they just want us dead. These are adventurers, and we're a monster that killed one of them. We try to talk, we get killed in one shot before we can even make the first bluff check, which they'll probably see through anyway.

The way I see it, there are 3 options.
    a. Run to the church of St. Pelor and obtain healings.
    b. Run to a nearby Farm and obtain healings.
    c. Run deep into the woods / mountains / cave / anywhere and obtain healings.

    >> Anonymous 05/26/10(Wed)23:15 No.10080909
I couldn't care less about saving Claire, but we are NOT letting those faggots steal our cat.

You're seriously going to let four level 1 adventurers who had some good planning run us out of town? Fuck that. This is OUR TURF. We'll eat them all and stay here because we CAN.

...Also I don't want to leave before we've eaten a Choker from the sewers here.

    > Also, why capture Claire if the intent was to kill us?
    > if the intent was to kill us
    > if

STOP THAT. Assuming that they have any interest in doing anything other than killing us is what got us to read the note. That almost got us killed. These are adventurers, and we are a monster that killed one of their group. They have no interest in doing anything other than killing us. Stop assuming they have any interest in talking, you're going to get us killed.

They probably took her because they think she's helping us. That, and they probably want to hold on to her in case we survive the explosive runes. Which, by the way, WAS AN ATTEMPT TO KILL US. Not some ransom note, not some "come here to talk things out note," it was A TRAP.

They have a level 5+ wizard at the very least on their payroll, and a tracker who has so far been able to follow our every move with no problems. They are not level 1.

And the dorf was level 3/4 IIRC.

    What level are we, anyways?

Shut. Up. We will find them. We will kill them. We will eat them. We will rescue Claire. There will be no talking. You idiots who think "oh, they'll want to talk to us" are going to get us killed. Didn't you learn a damn thing from the note? It wasn't a ransom note, it wasn't an attempt to talk with us, it was an attempt to kill us. That's all they want to do. These are ADVENTURERS we're talking about.

Level 3, but we have no proficiencies, meaning we're shit in a fight. The only thing we can really do is run and sneak, neither of which will help if it comes to a stand up fight. We need to come at them indirectly, spreading word that they started the fire will be a good start.

Fight vs talk is for fags. Skipping town is where its at.

    We're not a level.

Also I just checked the archived thread, and assuming the dwarf was a fighter (which makes sense), he was level 1.

We have 3 hit dice, but that's not levels. Also, we have proficiency in our teeth and claws, also with our masterwork dagger. We've taken out a croc in a fair fight, among other things, even if we're more of an ambush predator.

As stated, that tracker had DAYS to find us while we were running around leaving fresh tracks all over the city. I wouldn't be surprised if we left some blood or other signs at the scene of the dwarf nomming.

Meanwhile, they could have paid for the spell, or only have him temporarily as a favor or on their payroll for this mission. Sure, we have to be careful, but that doesn't mean they necessarily have a high-level caster on their team. Not to mention, even if they do, he can't be everywhere at once. And without backup, a wizard is very squishy as he sleeps.
