Arkham's jet is indeed an impressive construction, plush interior, sleek-looking engines and what appears to be a VTOL system. You are directed to the forward cabin, while the rest of your team remains in the rear. There is no one on board except for the pilot, co-pilot, and yourselves, though the cabin of the plane is well-stocked with food and beverages. A flatscreen television is on wall, most likely to facilitate airborne video-conferencing.
"Well," Arkham says, pouring two snifters of cognac and pushing one of them towards you. "You have questions. I suspect I have answers."

    >What do? Hopefully this session won't get fucking ruined by computer bullshit. I purged the shit out of the unclean, and everything seems to be running smoothly...

"Yes, that's right. We discovered the hedrons in a temple in the Himalayas over thirty years ago. It took significant scientific advancement before we were able to put them to any sort of...well, i won't say "good" use, given the outcome, but...productive?"

"Brody said he had a wife, or a girlfriend, or something, back in World War I. What happened to her?"
"She died of breast cancer in the late 50's, maybe early 60's. When Brody was discharged from the military she had him committed to an institution, said he was babbling, deranged. We realized the truth soon enough, but we could never tell her, of course."

"Well, let's get to the bottom line," you ask. "What's your idea for getting rid of the monster you created? How do we destroy 13?"
Arkham sits back, taking a sip of cognac. "Not a cognac drinker?" he asks, then waves off his own question. "Never mind that. I must confess I'm a bit at a loss about what to do about 13. I've been occupying the public with our dealings with the other Subjects, those more vulnerable to conventional methods of containment. I suspect that you, with your...tentative kinship via the Key/Gate project, may hold some sort of key to banishing the cosmic sentience, but Arkham is unfortunately in the dark about the hows and the whys." Ask about the nature of the entity implanted into our body (Garfield), and how similar it is to the one implanted in 13. Garfield is probably the only reason 13 wasn't able to outright kill us and had to send us into the future in Kansas instead.
    >> Anonymous 05/25/10(Tue)21:57 No.10057359

Arkham quirks an eyebrow at your question, smiling.
"Probing; a bit off topic, but a very good question, I like the way you think, young lady. My family was one of the first to settle in the New England area, and their money came with them from England. As the colonies and then the country grew around them, they...invested wisely, and so money was never scarce. And money begets money, as I'm sure you are aware, so by the time I got out of the War, my grandchildren would never have wanted. But I craved more than the security of my children. I encountered...things, in Europe, that made me realize the truly fragile nature of our civilization. I was not the only one. I agreed to match the government's initial funding, squirreled away as an earmark on some defense budget somewhere, and established Arkham."

"The first subject we captured is dead now, a woman whose kiss putrefied living flesh. Then we found Ramiel in the Canadian wilderness. That was all the proof the government needed, and Arkham became an officially unofficial subsidy."

"Well, I guess you could say they're the same species, though that word has little meaning when applied to something so physiologically alien."

"Did that have something to do with why 13 didn't kill me outright? I mean I was inches away from her."
"I suspect that was as much luck as anything else. The cosmic sentience may only have barely realized it was being attacked, and when it retaliated it did so in a nature both destructive and directionless. Your usefulness as a participant in the Key/Gate project ended because your ego supplanted the sentience attracted to you and nullified it completely. Yes, yes," he says, raising his hand. "I am aware of the one you call 'Garfield.' But there's nothing suggesting that's not merely a creation of your own mind."

"I'm not saying that your complaints are not valid. You are saner than 13, certainly, because you have some part of a human mind remaining. But we were able to detect no fragment of extrastellar intelligence in you, and you certainly exhibit almost none of the tremendous power such a merger would truly wield. Neither you nor 13 nor those whose lives were claimed represented the eventual end I envisioned. If you want to pioneer mankinds transcendence, why not open up your own veins to the cosmic horror from beyond the veil?

What is more noble, risking your own safe comfortable existance for what you believe in, or kidnapping little children to torture?

When you served, your money may have made you an officer, but you are far from a leader. How many died under your command? Not enough, perhaps if more had, you would have had your fill before resorting to women and children.

"HOPEfully," Arkham says, "that won't be necessary. LaForce taps into an energy source that is beyond mundane human detection, and he can use it towards destructive or subtle ends. He can charm a nation's parliament into submission, but he can also light a fire in the hearts of an army of men. Unfortunately, the tapping of this energy produces an increasing pain in the user, such that LaForce is no doubt in a constant and maddening agony, though you would never know to look at him. You hand over the assault rifles and the shotgun. You gesture to Brody's rifle.
    "Personal. Sentimental. Antique?"
The soldier shakes his head, confused and frustrated.
    "Give bullets then."
    You turn over Brody's ammunition.
"Now follow hier," he says, motioning to an armored car. That driver nods at this signal and begins driving.
    "Are we going to Berlin?"

Berlin is in the process of being decorated; Black banners hang from several buildings, emblazoned with a stylish white eagle silhouette. There is a slight military presence, but everyone seems to be going about their business for the most part. However, in one of Germany's larger parks, you can see that an apparent fortress has erected itself, constructed of twisted wrought iron and black marble.

"A demonstration, then," you say, smiling darkly as you are encased in the dark dull covering of your blood armor. Your eyes gaze out at the soldier from the otherwise faceless mask.
Whipping out with a pseudopod, you shear a carefully-manicured hedge to pieces. "Creed," you say, gesturing to the pile of growth.
Cilian extends his two extra fiery arms, both flaming and physical limbs maneuvering deftly as he cascades fire upon the plants, which burn to ashes swiftly. Several soldiers jump back, while several more rush to extinguish the blaze.
"Their powers are less...grandiose," you say, gesturing to Clara and Brody, the blood peeling back from your face.
    "Good show," Garfield says.
"Yes, I think...that should be good. Please, the Chancellor will see you presently."

    >That about does it for this evening. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves, glad nothing went catastrophic this time. Anyone strongly displeased with the way things are going? if so, why?

Show that Clara is a robot but not her rail gun.
Show Brody's immortality but try to cover up his memory loss.
We can't really not show part of Creed's abilities as he only has one, so don't have him display it unless specifically asked. and then either under-power his display or say he can't because of his wounds.

This way our group will appear weaker than we actually are, hopefully weak enough to not pose a threat to the guy we want to see bus useful enough for him to want to see us.

Brody's power works best if it's a surprise to them. Clara's a walking weapon, but they don't need to know that. The fact that a 13 year old is hanging out with us is enough to imply she has something going for her.

Creed's power is flashy, impressive, and we need to have at least one other obvious fighter type to be able to back up our stories about surviving the Florida Fiasco and the resulting fallout.

Whenever I'm writing dialogue, I usually hear voices in my head for whichever character, and my brain often appropriates celebrity voices for parts. You guys got a kick out of my describing 88 as Smaug the dragon, so I figured I'd list some of the other voices I'm hearing while I write lines.

    Devon Brody- Jim Carrey
    Maksim Wade- Bruce Campbell
    Ramiel- The Monarch, Venture Bros.
    Jacob Walters- Michael Weston
96- Unicron from the 1986 transformers movie.
Cilian Creed-I keep wanting him to be either southern or midwestern, but in my head, he's always Alexander Anderson from Hellsing.
    Clara- Hatsune Miku
Helen Tanner- 82 is the only character I never hear a voice for. It's weird.
