    Quest Thread: Strange Places.

You awaken in a darkened area. You can barely see in the dim light. There seems to be a small amount of light that's ambient to the area you are in, but it has no discernible source. You have no idea how large the area you are standing in is as the darkness obscures everything beyond a few meters away from you. The ground at your feet is solid, and seeming without seams, cracks, or other distinguishing marks, it's impossible to tell if it's metal or stone, as it's perfectly smooth. Your head hurts. Through the throbbing pain in your head you can vaguely recall falling.

Try to get up. Look at myself to see who I am and what clothes I'm wearing, check my pockets for items or ID.

You are wearing some mud-spattered clothing, it's not high-end retail clothes, just off-the rack stuff you'd get at any retailer, a shirt and some jeans. You are wearing somewhat worn white sneakers. You have some loose change on you, but not much, in total it'd be worth a dollar or two. Other than that, you don't seem to have much in the way of anything.

You are a 16 year old girl. You can't see your face, but you can imagine it's spattered with mud. You try to get up, but everything is sore, luckily it doesn't seem like you broke anything. You have no ID.

As you move around, the dim light seems to follow you around, perhaps the light is emanating from you somehow? As you search the area around you, you find that you are in curving path with railings on either side, the path is roughly 10 meters give or take a meter or two.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:18 No.7188414
    >>7188398

And what's on either side of the path? Check myself if there might be a light source.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:21 No.7188437
    >>7188414

I mean, do the railings merely stop me from going off the path onto some other surface, or is there like lava or water or abyssal darkness.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:30 No.7188522
    >>7188502

Wipe off the mud, move along the path carefully, hands on railings. Check for devices or items along the path. Maybe crouch and feel the underside of the path if I can.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:31 No.7188538
    >>7188437
on the inside of the path (the direction that the path curves around towards) There seems to be a large wall that curves with the path about a meter or two behind the railing, but between you and it is nothing but abysmal darkness as you look down. On the outside side of the path there is nothing but abysmal darkness. The wall is smooth as well, and bears a stark metallic look as you can see your reflection in it even in the dim light. Your face is indeed spattered with mud. You are quite a plain looking girl. With the right tools and care you could probably be fairly good looking, but you don't seem to have ever had these. Your hair is long, and brownish-blonde in colour, also with spatterings of mud in it. You seem to have a bruise along the forehead and side of your face, and amid the dirt and grime you can see dried blood. You seem to have an athletic build.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:31 No.7188547
well lets start down the path then as it looks like we dont have an other options.

what on earth? anyway >>7188522 in response. also what are the railings made of? same material?
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:38 No.7188619
    >>7188550
Same non-descript material the path seems to be made of, there are three railings, one at shin-height, one at waist-height and one at chest-height. Your arm isn't long enough to find the bottom of the path as it seems to be quite thick. there doesn't seem to be any discernable devices or anything of any kind other than the railing. the railings are seemingly perfectly cylindrical. I am assuming you are going down the path in a zig-zagging motion to see both sides of the path? the light only extends about 2 or 3 meters from you and the path is about 10-12 meters wide. Nothing can be seen beyond 2-3 meters from you.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)11:40 No.7188640
    >>7188619

zig-zagging could do, though personally i'd be for holding on to the railings and following them. given it's abysmal darkness on both sides I don't want to lose sight of the railing.

Also, just for clarification, when you were walking down the path, were you walking down the path with the inside of the path to your right or your left?
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)12:00 No.7188839
    >>7188819

To the right. which means the fork is coming out from the left.

well i don't know, that's the way i saw it.

    >>7188839
    Yeah, you got it right.

The forking path is the same width as the original path, and it goes a short distance before it ends, the path apparently ends abruptly, as the railings angle out from the dead-end. Where the path dead ends, you see a shimmer for a brief second, as in that brief instant you can see far more than the limited light that's been provided for you, the shimmer was in the shape of a giant dais whose edge comes to where the path dead ends, you can see the railings that angled out sharply away from the path form a complete circle around the shimmer. The dais seemed to be made of light and now that the shimmer is gone, you can't see it anymore, only the void of the abysmal darkness beyond the edge of the path.

    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)12:16 No.7189009
I think we should stick to the main path for now - leave a shiny coin or something on the floor near the inner railing. Follow the inner railing round, see if we encounter the coin again.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)12:28 No.7189123
head for the glowing dais, its the fountain of youth!
    >> OP !h28m2qQSeY 12/18/09(Fri)12:30 No.7189143
    >>7189009
It takes awhile, how long, you won't know. You don't seem to have a watch or anything. Following the path from the inner-side railing, you do indeed reach the shiny coin again.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)12:40 No.7189211
    >>7189143

OK, so, let's be systematic. The inner rail is a complete circle, now to check the outer rail. Start at the fork that leads to the dais-thing, leave a coin there to mark it. Head round the outer rail, leaving different coins or combinations of coins at any other forks we might encounter, to see how many there might be.

Staying on the central path? You find that there are 8 forks before you come back to the first marker.

    Roughly evenly-spaced?

Moving clockwise - so with the outer rail on our left - check the next fork after the dais. We're starting to build up a picture of our surroundings, so as long as we're careful it should be possible to find our way back here.

Is it possible to use the coins or anything else we have on our person to leave marks on the metal floor or rails?
    >> OP !h28m2qQSeY 12/18/09(Fri)12:55 No.7189329
    >>7189285
Perfectly Evenly-Spaced. The coins do lay flat on the floor, you have 2 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, and 4 pennies. There are 8 forks. The fork after the dais seems to have a heavy door that looks half fallen in, there is space along one side you might be able to squeeze through with a lot of effort. As you approach the door, there is another shimmer as you can see the outline of the doorway it's massive, 10-12 meters across, spanning the entire path, and at least 10-12 meters high. The shimmer flickers and fades just as the dais did. The door looks heavily scored by what can only be interpreted as weapon's fire.

    ...huh. Squeeze through, carefully.

Is there any sign of age or disuse that we can see? Any dust, rust, debris, cobwebs, anything like that?

Try to squeeze through the door.

    >>7189568
    Nothing that you can see.

When you squeeze through you can hear what appears to a very low-pitched whine, slightly undulating, sounds artificial. The light around you seems slightly dimmer here though.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/09(Fri)13:48 No.7189746
    >>7189703

Be very, very cautious. Is it getting louder, or rising in tone, or otherwise changing, or is it fairly constant? Venture further into the room, but stick close to the wall so we don't get lost.

it's a very faint tone in and of itself. It appears to be coming from several meters in front of the door, there are no walls near where the sound is coming from.

As your field of light interacts with it, the undulating artificial noise picks up in intensity. It looks like a construct of a combination of glass and metal. It's horribly mangled, there are no exposed wires, but there are what appear to be beams of light that arc and twist within the shredded remains. It looks like it may have at one time been a robot, but it's been mutilated beyond recognition. The noise is the residual power supply causing some its components to twitch. What it originally looked like is anyone's guess.
