Hey everyone, we had a thread a few day's back about making a decent Kingdom Hearts system, not just a setting. I have chosen to take up this challenge. I'm taking bits and pieces of various systems that seem to work well, and sticking them into a custom system. The system will be D20, based mostly on fourth ed, but altered to the point to where only a few core mechanics are recognizable. I'm also throwing in a few totally new things. However, its only been a few day's so I haven't made to much progress, but will try to answer everything I can.

    Questions, advise, or inspiration?

Pic related its the character sheet I threw together. I haven't labeled it yet. From top right its, basic character info, character portrait, ability scores, statistics, drive forms and summons, background, at-will physical attacks, at-will mental attacks, campaign notes, and skills.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)03:11 No.7170947
Also, the system isn't limited to disney. You can throw out pretty much anything since the system is simaler to spelljammer.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)03:16 No.7170986
I'm changing the Ability Scores (which are different then stats) also. DnD ability scores sucked ass. Charisma was rarely used, constitution just raises your health, and wisdom and int are bretty much the same fucking thing. I've also gotten rid of AC, wereing better armor will cusion the blow of an attack, it will not cause the enemy to randomly start missing.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/09(Thu)03:17 No.7170993
Did you... make a character sheet for a game you haven't made yet? Seriously? WTF?
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)03:22 No.7171023
There are no races (or, more accurately, there are no differences between them) but class customation is a lot more free form. its about half way between DnD and mutants and masterminds.

Also all classes can cast spells. however they are fairly weak unless used by a magic class, or someone who trains up their magic.

Pretty much. Not as hard as it sounds, and this isn't the final version. Its going to be changed im sure.

    Weapons.
You can use keyblades, however you are not limited to only those. They are also no longer just swords (hell half of the ones in the games dont even look like swords anyway)

Weapon panels are far more common. You can also attach 2 weapon panels to a weapon, or one key chain (which turns it into a keyblade)

Anything can be used as a weapon, litterally anything from a sword, to a rock, to a deck of cards.

OP, you've spelled profession wrong on your sheet.

Also, please explain your intent behind the 'purity' and 'drive' boxes? These names intrigue me and I would like to know more. Perhaps purity measures how resistant you are the the corruption of evil, but drive measures how far you're willing to go to achieve your aims?
I haven't played Kingdom Hearts, but the baddies are called heartless, and it's like a disease of the soul, right? Gear the system towards making morality, friendship, the power of love and all that shit as important as your combat stats. There are some systems that have things like this already, but none of them are dnd 4th.

Ignore the insecure fags, OP. Please tell us what other mechanics you've made up or other changes you'll be making to the core d20 system.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/09(Thu)03:53 No.7171265
    >>7171238
What is purity? I'm guessing its like a cross between alignment and sanity? The more evil you do the lower it gets, until your consumed by darkness and attack your party?

    Also how does drive work?

Purity is basically wether you draw your power from light or dark. It starts out at zero and goes up or down if you use light or dark powers (dark is not evil, in fact there are a few classes that focus on dark powers. Its closer to the 4e Assasins Shadow powersouce then anything.) Dark attacks do more damge if its in the negatives, and less if its in the possitives, it also lowers the more dark powers you use. Vice versa for light.

Drive is pretty much your mana bar, its used for summoning or transforming into your drive forms. Spells can still be cast normally and have no affect on it.

As for that power of freindship stuff. Stats are not affected by it. However your GM might award new Keychains (powerful weapon augments) for good RPing instead of bonus xp.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)04:10 No.7171370
Also just to add to the whole "This is not disney fun time" factor, I'm including someing called Level Zero. Its pretty much for the prolouge of a campaign. You characters have pretty much npc stats, no magic, and fight with rocks and sticks.

You don't even get to pick a class till you reach level 1.

Its completely optional, and just to get players in the mindset of "holy fuck these things can't be stopped and the world is going to end." until they get something better then some rocks and sticks to fight with.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/09(Thu)04:16 No.7171414
    >>7171370
That is awesome. I remember in the first game trying to attack them with the wooden sword, only to find IT DOES NOTHING! But good luck getting it to work right.

Also will we be able to use shields to attack, like goofy?

And what is that box with heartless, nobodys, and form changes for?

If you get max'd, you lose your Heart, and at zero you become a Heartless.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)04:30 No.7171530
    >>7171414
Yeah, still needs to be playtested, not sure how it will work out. But I really want to get that "Your still only human and without that weapon you would be dead in minutes" feeling across.

Shields are useable as weapons, as are books, decks of cards, staffs, and that eraser sitting on your desk.

If you can pick it up, it can be used as a weapon. Maybe not a very good one (that eraser would do NO damage unless you place a weapon panel on it.) but can still be used as one none the less.

One of my players has decided that once we start testing, he will be building his entire character around the concept of the pen being mightier then the sword. He kills people using an actual pen. The scary part is, with what we have done so far, that character is fucking deadly.

As for the statistics box, it messures how many kills you've made/ transformations you've done, as well as inportant character notes. Some advanced classes require you to have a certain number. Like the Drive Master class requires X amount of drive changes before you can take it. Or the Heartless Hunter class requires you to have killed X number of heartless. To get Anti-form you have to become a heartless at some point, which would also be marked here.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)04:38 No.7171594
    >>7171454
    No...
You become a Heartless if you are killed by one. It can be lowered well below zero, and there is no cap. The higher it is the more powerful Light moves are. The lower it is the more powerful Dark moves are. Also most light/dark moves require it to be at a certain point before you can learn that move/skill/class.

For example, In order to use Dark Fire, you have to have less then -10 purity. If you hit -9, you can still use it (this doesn't always apply, this is one of the exeptions) but it is nowhere near as powerful.
    >> The Bearded Bear 12/17/09(Thu)04:40 No.7171603
    >>7171594
Are light moves more powerful if used against a opponent well into his dark?
    >> Anonymous 12/17/09(Thu)04:42 No.7171616
    >>7171530
Keeping track of kills, that sounds... interesting. Maybe added one for damage dealt/taken? or would that be too much work on the players part? I can see how updating it after every attack would be annoying.

And how the hell can a build be centered on using a pen be viable? What the fuck? Nerf the pen dude. Why would you even have stats for that dude?

    >> Anonymous 12/17/09(Thu)04:54 No.7171716
Armor = DR = Fantasy Craft
Purity = Wisdom = nMage, nWoD
or alternatively, Spell Cast = Taint = Fantasy Craft

Improvised Weapon always usually devolves to 1d3 or 1d4s. Unless you want to stat every possible Improv. Weapon, then good luck.

    >>7171603
Light does more damage to Dark enemys, Dark does more damage to light enemys. They are pretty much equal. However you can ready a light attack to use as a shield and nullify an attack. Dark attacks can be readied as a counter attack that deals extra damage from the attack that hit you.

    >>7171616
Yeah, that might be too much work. As for the Pen guy, Pen's are considered a Mundane Item. Mundane items can still be used as weapons but dont boost any stats. However when you apply a Weapon Panel to it, it boosts all stats by a small amount, instead of just one or two by a larger bonus. So swords with a weapon panel? +7 attack. Shield? +7 defense. Pen? +3 attack, magic, defense, will, etc.

His character is more or less the 4e multiclass bard jack of all trades build. He has multiple drive forms that he can switch between to boost the stats that are needed at the moment, and change his entire battle strategy in a moment. Since he is using a pen, he gains a small boost to all stats, so he isn't better then someone who is built for that role, but he can jump into any role thats needed.
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)04:58 No.7171756
    >>7171716
Yeah, imroved weapons do very little damage on their own, but boost all stats when weapon panels or keychains are applied.
    >> Weaboofag 12/17/09(Thu)05:02 No.7171792
    >>7171732
Which brings up the question, what Drive Forms will their be?

Is it going to be the ones from the game? or are you making your own? Because only 3 of those forms make sense for regular characters, and one of those is a combination of the other two.

I currently am dividing the forms into 3 tiers. Tier 1 lowers some stats to boost others. Tier 2 boosts only a few with no penalty. Tier 3 boosts everything. However higher tiers take more drive to transform into.

Currently I only have 6 forms, all tier one. I named them after the DnD stats.

Strength Form: Boosts attack and reaction. Cant use magic.
Constitution Form: Boosts defense and will. Lowers attack and magic.
Dexterity Form: Boosts speed. Lowers defense and will.
Intelligence Form: Boosts magic and sharpness. Can't use melee.
Wisdom Form: Boosts will and magic. Lowers defense and attack.
Charisma Form: Lowers pretty much everything, but can make any attack light or dark.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/09(Thu)05:20 No.7171952
    >>7171917
Dexterity form seems kinda useless. You can move a little faster but take more damage? and if will is anything like will saves you also take EVEN MORE damage from magic?

You dont need playtesting to tell you that sucks.

    Nice tribute.
So, they basically boost one stat at the price of another? Cool. Can you level up your forms? What knocks you out of a form? Will there be any form specific classes or class specific forms?
    >> Halfwing !!Slarp0p0hVx 12/17/09(Thu)05:34 No.7172085
    >>7171952
Actually, it might be to OP. Dexterity form lets you make full actions as standard actions, standard actions as move actions, and move actions as minor actions. Minor actions are unaffected.
    >>7171991
Forms can be leveled up, with tier ones they boost the bonuses and lower the penalties.

There are Class specific forms. As for form specific classes, no there aren't. However there are classes that specilize in using forms and boosting your drive.

Forms last until the end of the encounter, or until you fall unconsious. However the Form Adept class (Its a master class) can pick one of their tier one forms and turn it on or off once a round as a free action with no drive cost. So they can run arround in one of their low level forms at all times.

You forgot raise purity to be able to use Light Guards while still being able to move and attack during your turn.

Dark wouldn't work as well since dexterity lowers your defences and dark involves getting attacked directly. Although that would raise your bonus from Dark Counters even more.

Pen guy beat you to it. Although he plans on having Wisdom active instead.

Attack and Magic: Raises damage of attacks.
Defense and Will: Reduces damage of enemy attacks.
Reaction and Sharpness: Raises your accurracy roll.

The first ones are for physical attacks, the second ones are for magic.

Accuracy rolls take the place of AC and attack rolls. When you make an attack you and your oppenet both an accuracy roll and apply any modifiers. If you roll higher then them your attack hits, if not it misses.

Affter that you roll for damage, add your attack or magic modifier, and subtract you opponents defence or will modifier. Thats the amount of damage you deal.

And with that im off to bed. Night everyone.
