Take thirty gold from the treasury and assign Leold to bring the payment back to our brother. Give him specifications that the extra ten gold is to be used to hire various skilled workers to come to the town. Specifically an architect, tanner, herbalist, and to spend the rest on interesting scrolls (specifically alchemy).

Apparently we are not the bookish type. We will have to earn our glory on the battlefield!

All this failing might make for lulzy times when we meet Shef's daughter but until we do there's really no use investing so much effort into pleasing someone we don't know. We need to keep our options open and focus on making a good impression overall when we head to the Ancestors Feast.

A lord mus tbe used as strong in mind as he is in arm.

We should dedicate more time and effort into learning alchemy, but should not devote too much time. Alchemy labs are dangerous places, prone to explosions, acid spills, noxious fumes, all sorts of life ending things.

Further it until we can create simple potions and brews to ease pains, reduce fevers, other medical things.

    Notable People

    You are Thomas (Thom) Green

    "Advisors"
    - Leold: Your uncle's hunting buddy and friend.
    - Smyatt: Accountant, merchant and general manager of the place. Did most of the day-to-day running under your uncle.
    - Sir Peter Doobs: Hedge Knight, in service of your uncle. Your cousin, of much lower rank. Newly knighted by your uncle on his deathbed, was uncle's squire before that.
    - Erik: Your oldest (bastard) uncle. Was a scholar for most his life, after being exiled from the priesthood for insufficient devotion. Speaks many languages.
    - Zeek: Priest of Exidaid. He is proficient at healing small injuries and can handle larger ones with time.
    - Baldric: A peasant, of below average intelligence (but high for a peasant). A lackey. Possibly has a touch of the mind fever.
    - Marcus: A chef.
    - Shorty: Tallest and smartest of the yeomen. Promoted to DOOBS Squire.
    - Dan Ganawb: Mason (costs 5 silver per month)

    "Deities"
    - Byron: An easygoing god who demands little obedience and brings good luck in hunting, battle and general rough endeavors. Thom and Leold's patron deity.
    - Exidaid: A god of healing.
    - Artagus: A goddess of hunting. She has a local (unmanned) temple nearby.

    "Others"
    - Urist: A very friendly dwarfen merchant who often brings the town fine wares.
    - Sir Pinky: A pet white mouse.
    - Lord Sheff: Leader of Seakay, a bordering territory comprised of many towns. Very good relations. He's helped us a bit, and we bought him a fine 30 gold sword. His wife loves cooking, and Sheff loves good food.
    - Daughter of Lord Sheff: Beautiful, but not particularly ladylike. She rejoices in alchemy and other hobbies odd for any nobility, let alone a young lady. However she still has many suitors, mainly the richer Seakay merchants.
    - Thom's Brother: Leant us a large sum of money to commission Sheff's sword.

Great. So now our aspiration is to be a goddamn alchemist? Or is it just to impress someone we've yet to even meet?

Once again, let's consider making more well-rounded preparations for the Ancestors Feast. Maybe ask Erik what will take place and make sure we don't make any social blunders during what sounds like a pretty reverential event.

Your bloodline is better then the Sheff Bloodline, so that's not an issue. They have more holdngs, but that's because you were a second son, and only got this place from your uncle.

Erik doesn't know much about this event, but you are well bred enough to not make any major faux pas. Any minor ones you make will just be minor differences in custom, and can be forgiven as you're new to the area, and this is your first real event here in lordly company.

    >>7114197
You play with your puppy, being careful at first, but it soon becomes apparent that he is as robust and able as an adult hunting dog of most breeds. You take him hunting, and manage to find another Rootbird, as well as young wild goat buck.

    >>7114188
You're doing very basic prac, but don't have ingredients for much. Nothing dangerous yet, Erik is smart enough not to let you near that until you konw what you're doing.

On the chance that the Feast will include any games, we should practice our sparring and horsemanship. Although we don't own any armor and I don't think unmounted sparring is something nobles typically partake in, it's still a good idea I feel. Mostly due to the fact that we may be invited to a hunt.

Liking this idea about the quarry at the end of last thread:

    >>Ask around whenever you see anyone who might be a potential buyer, you never know who you might find.
What we could do is CREATE consumers. Get someone nearby building a new castle, bridge, or cathedral, and make sure that they're using us as their main supplier.

Maybe a bard talking of some prophesy regarding construction could get the ball rolling on that?

I was thinking something about how the lord to "fuse the stones of his neighbors into a mighty castle, to be the rock for a foreign foe to dash itself to pieces upon" would be remembered in history, gain riches and fame and fellowship, yadda yadda.

Or something about how a giant cathedral would curry the favor of the gods and attract pilgrims.

If we do this, we'd best be really secret about it... and expand the quarrying operations as much as possible. Like, have our bard talk to other bards, and those bards do the actual rumor mongering and story singing. We really don't want to get caught having made a fake prophesy for our own prophet, that will wreck our rep.

Hopefully Shef will have a library so we can learn more about what kind of world we live in. Maybe see if there are any dark gods of old that we can pledge our soul to for the promise of an eternal dynasty in our name and the power to carve the world in our glorious image. Although I get the feeling this isn't the tone of what the OP set out for :3.

In the meantime, have we decided what to do about our debt to our brother? My vote is 30 gold to the brother, 10 extra for his help. Whatever courier we used to send the gold will have 10 additional in order to attract skilled workers. So, 40 in total. I'm not sure how 10 extra to our brother will seem. Hopefully he won't be insulted.

Now, if you're interested in finer goods, I have a few runed rings I'm particularly pleased with. One for good luck in love, another for general good luck, and one that will bring your friends closer. If you have something in particular mind, I might be able to craft a runed ring for you by next month. Potent things." He lifts up his hand, and you see he has several rings of various metals on. In fact, the metal pin he has for a lower leg seems to show you've done quite well." He tells you the story of how he was attacked by goblins, when he worked up north. He was saved by dwarves who were impressed with his bravery, as a merchant, trying to break free with one foot mangled by a goblin mace. They not only smelted him a new leg, but engraved the inside of it with runes for good luck, and taught him the basics of runecraft. Although up north, crude runecraft can be bought from the dwarven apprentices cheaply, down south it's much rarer, and he came down here to ply his trade. Since then everything went well for him. After telling his tale, he decides, "Y'know what m'lord, screw it. Have the Fox medallion for 3g, and I'll give you any one of these runed rings for free. Just in time. A minute later and he would have offended your host by singing of the wrong Sheffs. As things stand he sings a magnificent tale of a young Sheff, son of the first Lord of Seakay, who hunted a wyvern single-handedly. He then offered it's head as a bride price to the father of a fair maiden, and brought together the two halves of what is modern Seakay. The skull to this day adorns the wall, with the Sheff Motto beneath it. In True Erondian it reads "Tolerate no poison, remove it with valor."

The song goes down very well, and it is greatly enjoyed by all.

You steer the conversation to Sarah, and note that she's also a student of alchemy. You mention that you have been studying it and compliment her on not being just a pretty face. Although the compliment doesn't have a noticeable effect, she engages you in talk of alchemical theory, most of which goes over your head.
